Default Aqua Fit Classes

Hi

I expect that this would be a good one for Stef to answer but anyone who may have an opinion on this is free to comment.

I am thinkng of starting these classes again. I went a few years ago and couldn't decide how beneficial they were.

Can anyone give me any ideas of how effective they are in comparison to other forms of exercise please?

I'll try to find some published info for you. There are a couple of sites that give loads of info, including comparing effectiveness and benefits of class types. Unfortunately when my PC blew up I lost all my 'Favourites'.

Meanwhile you go for it. If you enjoyed it and expect to do so again then water is a good way to start any changes you want to make. Just remember that the feelings of land exercise are totally different to those in water so if you compare them directly you'll be comparing apples and elephants.

I'll get you that info somehow!! Stef

Hi Stef

Thank you for your prompt reply, whilst I am off work (6 weeks) I am going to try to fit in 2 sessions per week, what with that and playing badminton for an hour a week, it should put me on the road to some kind of fitness. I wouldn't actually say that I enjoy Aquafit but I am so unfit at the moment that I think it is the kindest way to start. I do have a probalem with the smell of the chlorine in the water, it makes me want to eat loads and loads, any ideas how I get around that one?

I hope this is useful to anyone else visiting here.

I look forward to receiving the info

Thanks

Jano

Chlorine as a stimulus to eat? I have NEVER heard that one before! BUT I do know how you can turn it to your advantage!

I know, you're shrieking "Oh Yeah! prove it!", so I will. When you feel this hungry grab your iron will, your steely control, and eat a balanced portion of stuff that is good for you. Try fresh vegetables or fruit, ignore your cravings for a big starchy jacket potato or loads of pasta, stomp hard on your sweet tooth and ignore the choccies, biccies and other stuff WW call SINS!

After a couple of weeks of doing this you should find, if you really truly don't cheat even once, that the smell of chlorine and even the after effect of ANY exercise stimulates you to WANT to eat fruit and veg!!!

How do I know this? Well I was taught it in Psych lectures in my Masters degree. I tried it out on myself and, guess what?!?!?!? It worked! If I workout hard all I want is a banana and a fresh fruit salad - something I would never have dreamt of eating before! Well Yeeha! I don't pig out on creamy pasta dishes and I feel so much better for it!

Give it a whirl, you've got 6 weeks to concentrate on you and you may as well learn as many new habits as you can! I'm still learning new tricks, as I get good ones I will probably post them here. I am hoping that my new exercise classes for overweight and obese poeple will provide me with loads of new info. I usually learn a lot from my customers!

Hi

It is quite right what you say. The chlorine thingy is an association from my childhood. I used to go swimming with friends and even from school when I was younger quite a lot. Of course at the end you hit the snack machines. I usually had a packet of Potato Puffs (don't think you can get these now) and an oxtial soup. It was like the best meal I had ever had at the time.

Now I understand what you are saying, I have to start to associate with "good food" and not "bad". Ok, I will give it a try as I really need to shift some Lbs.

Any more info you can provide would be appreciated.

(PS Aqua fit is the only daytime class I can find around here at the moment unless I pay mega bucks and join a centre)

Good luck with your classes, I wish you were close enough for me to join !!

The snacks after swimming was a big deal when I was a kid we all went with our money for crisps and a drink when you mentioned feeling hungry after swimming I thought about that it was a treat wasn't it?

PS Still going and really felt the difference after the session, again, can't say I really enjoy it but at least I don't feel like I'm having a heart attack during the session!

Hi all

Just gearing up for my aqua fit class, the second this week and I will do another one tomorrow. However, I cannot get into shape with my eating. I always find that if the exercise is good I can't control the eating. If I am being really good at the eating I can't get into gear with the exercise. WHY CAN'T I DO THE TWO AT ONCE????

I really do seriously need to do something, I go away again a week on Saturday.... any suggestions folks, something like a short sharp shock!!
