Sort of... the social worker was here for one of her L-O-N-G assessment sessions yesterday and there is a really strange rule for these medicals - which is that you MUST have been to see your doctor in the three months before you have your medical. So Kevin and I have got to go and waste our doctor's time just to tell him that we are OK! The social worker called it a 'preliminary medical'! (Although Kevin has got a rash which might be something contagious he got from the Gorilla with toothache I was baby sitting this week).

weigh in report

Hi everyone

congratulations to all those who had good losses this week and chin up to the rest who didn't, just keep plugging away and the losses will come :)

Well my week didn't go exactly as planned...I had to work a lot of extra hours at work and to top it off my dad was in hospital so as soon as I finished work it was off up there to see him, this gave me no time at all to plan my meals or go to the gym, so I tended to just grab something quick when I got a chance. By now I am pretty good at just grabbing low calorie snacks, so I wasn't worried about over eating, but I wasn't as good as I thought I had been because when I looked back over the week there was only 3 days where I actually managed to reach 1000 calories...way to low for me at this stage of the game...the result was no loss at all to report...but I suppose it isn't as bad as gaining weight, tho at the moment to me it seems just as bad, especially as I was hoping to get into the 14 stone somethings this week too :(

I decided to have a complete pig out day on friday to make up for all the undereating...that was also a big mistake....the last time I had any fried food was back in July at my mums birthday party and for the entire night I suffered with heartburn and indegestion...well I decided I wanted beefburger chips and beans on friday. I cooked it started eating it ...wasn't really enjoying it...It just didn't taste as good as I remembered it to, just way too greasy for me now...I didn't even manage to finish it before the pain of the indegestion started and I was in agony until about 7am the following morning.
In future if I need to increase my calories for any reason you can bet your life it wont be with fried foods :)

All that has left me determined to do better this coming week. getting to the gym will be a challenge again as I know I am working extra hours again this week, but at least my dad is out of hospital so I wont have to be rushing off up there every night.

well I better run, its my sons 13th birthday today...omg where did the time go, it seems like only yesterday I had him :)

Have a great weekend everyone

Ali

Sarah Ann 04-16-2002 03:56 AM

Sorry about not doing the totals yesterday but I had a medical. Yuck - doctor told me I don't look very well - but I feel OK and he couldn't find too much wrong with me this time (naturally my BP was a bit raised after that comment, well it would be!!!)

Anyway - a really mixed week on the weightloss front, but overall we still managed to achieve a group loss.... {{{{ BIG HUGS }}}} to everyone who gained or stayed the same and CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who lost some.

But how do I work out the calories in everything? Like when I make a sandwich a spread some marge on it, how do I know how much is in that? Or in a piece of fruit etc?

I still havent lost any weight! Whats happening? Im doing better than usual but nothings happening and my holidays only 10 and a half weeks away!!!! My holiday id gonna awful and humiliating! I should be looking forward to it but Im dreading it now! :(

Phoebe 04-16-2002 07:12 AM

Counting calories can be annoying at times. What I did was when I did things for th first time after starting to count calories (like pouring a bowl of cereal, spread margarine on a sandwich etc), I weighed that portion, worked out the calories and noted it down. I now go on portion sizes because I always pour roughly the same amount of cereal, I always spread the same amount of marg on a sandwich. I know I may be a few calories out occasionally but on the whole it works. I also worked out the calories in my favourite meals and wrote those down too. It would be far too tedious for me to work out calories in everything, every day. Don't be too disheartened about your holiday Chi Chi, its still 10 weeks away, you could lose 20 pounds in that time.

I have a question? The diet magazines and WW etc always say you can lose 2 pounds a week safely. Is there anyone here who actually has lost 2 pounds every week? I don't know of any woman that is able to do that. My weight seems to fluctuate so much during the month. I would love to lose 2 pounds every week.

Sarah, glad your medical went okay. I hate it when people say you look tired or not very well. Not a nice thing to say to someone.

flumper 04-16-2002 07:41 AM

chi chi give it time itll start coming off again, we all have these weeks where nothign budges no matter how good we are, i think i had this in my 3rd or 4th week no loss at all i was gutted just wanted to give in and say stuff it........but ive stuck with it and it is moving my weightloss varies from1-4 loss each week depends on how good i am through the week, but for me a 1lb loss means so much so i dont fret to much if i have a couple of off days through the week, i to have big probs counting the calories in things , if its not on the pkt im lost, and most give it to the 100g so even if im not having the 100g i still round it up to that in my calorie count makes life a lot easier for me, chi chi where are you going on holiday! even if you cant wear a bikin and feel comfortable with yourself how about buying a few sarongs i think they look brilliant much better than just a bikin but then im OLDDDD:lol:

Sarah Ann 04-16-2002 07:48 AM

ChiChi - go out and buy yourself a really good calorie listing book from a good stationers - like WH Smiths - and then weigh everything. A good calorie book will tell you how much everything weighs by the 100g then its up to you to work out how much, say, 10g of margarine, weighs. My calorie book shows how many calories the average pear, apple or orange contains - but when it comes to meat and fat I weigh absolutely everything.

Wouldn't it be lovely if we call all lose 2lbs each week... especially if we could do it while eating sensibly! There are ways of losing huge amounts of weight a week - my BIL is on a 500 cal a day diet but he is under very strict medical supervision and he is losing 5lb+ a week and he is feeling totally dreadful on it.

flumper 04-16-2002 07:52 AM

500cals!!!!!!!!!!! sheesh next doors guinea pig must get more thna that . that must be really very hard for anyone to stick to but a man, hope he doesnt mess his thyroids or anything up

Sarah Ann 04-16-2002 08:08 AM

No he's being very closely monitored - in fact he's signed off work with it. He fell asleep while driving on the motorway and, its a long story, but it turned out that he had something called sleep apnoia (sp??) which is where he was waking up dozens of times in the night just for a second or two because his throat was closing and he couldn't breathe. It was caused by all the weight he carries around his neck. His job involves a lot of driving and they have told him he isn't allowed to drive until he is sleeping properly - and he will only do that after he has lost (they estimate) a minimum of 5 stones.... so he is off work until he has lost 5 stones then he has to have another sleep test thingy in a laboratory to make sure he is breathing ok. He also is on oxygen at night - and its ALL WEIGH RELATED!

Isn't it frightening the stuff that can go wrong with you all because you do something totally normal like eating?????

tupperware queen 04-16-2002 08:29 AM

Sarah my FIL has weight related sleep apnea (sp?) too!! It is v frightening!!

Chi Chi weigh out 20z or grammes or what ever and then write it down in your cals then write it down again next time you need some, i used to do this, (then realised how many cals it was taken up and gave up eating/using the stuff!! ) and found it helpful, same with cheese etc.

If you arent weighing and measuring you aren't counting the cals and I am always amazed at the amount we forget we are eating
(I have suffered from eating amnesia several times over the years!!))

Your holiday will be great , do all you can between now and then and you will really enjoy it!!
