  • Can I do this a bit different.

Can anybody reccommend a really good hand cream. My hands are looking like they be long to a 70 year old. I put cream on them regulary & at night but still they dry out.

    Any suggestions ...

  • I can think of the name but I can see the packaging in my head. It's a mainly white bottle with either a blue or red cap and it has a blue/red flag with a cross on it. I think it is Neutrogena - but you can get it in Superdrugs. Nivea do a nice one as well - Nourishing hand creme with liposomes, vitamin e and avocado oil (my current fave).
  • All I can use is traditional nivea I have terrible thing of if I dont use it or use others my hands get horrible bubbly things on them!! Had it since I was 16 which is the first time I think in my life I had to use cleaning products My hands look old to me though I have been staring at them all week when bored!!
  • Its as old as the hills, but I swear by Atrixo! Nice rich formula and smell and rubs in nicely.

I suppose I should be using Avon products because I get a discount, but over the years I have tried all sorts and have always come back to Atrixo.
  • Well, between the reflexolgy and the baby I have to wash my hands loads and have very dry skin. I have tried allsorts and from the high street i like the body shops hemp hand cream, which is very oily, but works. i hope they still do it, mine is a bit old.
BUt I do have a secret remedy....it's called Kamilosan, and it's mainly sold for cracked nipples (LOL)! BUT it does work for other cracked skin too and it doesn't sting if the skin is broken. I put it on at night and you can still feel it a bit in the mornings. I think it has lanolin in it . Otherwise, put vaseline on your hands and wear rubber gloves over the top!!
I really came here to recommend a gadget I have which is really good. You can get them from places like Lakeland. It's a sort of matal frame you put inside a chicken (no giblet variety) and it means you can roast it standing up in the oven (the chicken that is!) and all the fat runs off. The state of the baking tray after will make you glad you bought one, but it also cooks it really well.
This is enough!I feel like a woman in a commercial!
  • Thanks for all the tips. I tried the nipple cream when I had the boys, not on my hands though - I'll need to find a breast feeding mother & 'borrow' some to try.

Like the sound of the chicken thingy

  • carol, i love your avatar it really does go through the range of emotions when dieting lol
  • Oooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I remember cracked nipples..............! OWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have actually got one of those chicken things somewhere (probably in the loft) - it was a pressie from MIL and I have never used it. Will send hubby up in the loft this evening to find it and try it out. Thanx for this!!!!

Has anyone tried silicone paper (or it is sometimes called baking parchment)???? It comes on a roll like greaseproof paper and you use it to line cookware to prevent anything from sticking. It is sort of the ultimate in non-stick - you can put pizzas, roasting potatoes, fish, pretty much anything on it and nothing sticks to it.

Its brilliant for very low fat cooking.
  • Sarah I've got a teflon baking sheet and its magic - I make fat free roast potatoes and they're gorgeous, the only problem was that after I used it the first time dh was cleaning up the kitchen, screwed it up and chucked it away - I had to buy another one and they're not cheap!!
  • LOL - reminds me of my ex who spent a whole Sunday morning scouring off the 'grey muck' that was coating the inside of my brand new Tefal paella pan!!! Just shows you how often he washed up or cooked.
  • Sarah, much as I like my chicken thing, I'm not sure I'd be thrilled to get one as a present. Mind you my MIL once gave me what looked like a box of chocolates with a diet book inside. Oh how I laughed.
I'll be buying the old dear a thong this year.
  • I've got a few new recommendations today....

The first is string cheese - I have tried the pizza flavoured one - its about 70 cals per helping and is really nice for a light lunch.

The second is these Crackerjacks - the caramel ones (gorgeous - totally gorgeous) are 140 cals a bag and are VERY satisfying when you want something sweet which takes a while to eat. Haven't tried the cheese ones yet, but I definitely will.

The third recommendation is something my US diet buddy makes - it sounds a bit odd, but I have actually made it and tried it this morning and it was really nice (bit suprised really cos I expected to throw it away)... it goes really nice on wholemeal toast.

    Prune Butter

20 non-soak, ready to eat prunes with the pits taken out.
1/2 cup frozen undiluted apple juice concentrate (apple juice works fine).
    1/2 tsp cinnamon

Put all the ingredients in blender and blend until pureed.

Keeps in the fridge for up to four days or freeze in icecube tray taking out as needed.

Store in freezer. Take out just enough for a few days at a time
  • Sarah do you mean snack-a-jacks or are crackerkacks something new I havent seen yet? I love snack ajacks all flavours and sizes!!
  • Woops!!!! Sorry - yes I did mean Snack-a-jacks! What are the other flavours like? They only had caramel or cheese where we bought them. It was buy one get one free so we had two caramel.

Geneve - BTW - got the chicken thing down from the loft - gosh - doesn't it cook the chicken nicely! Kevin's wondering what else is in the loft now.

Kevin gave me a pedometer for this year's Valentine's Day!
  • Now let me see which are the flavours I have tried:
    Barbecue
    Cheese
    Savoury salted
    salt n vinegar
    chocolate
    caramel

They come in packets like crisps or like big 'rice cakes, i have only seen cheese, choc and caramel in the large sizes but I think the others are available.

Uncle bens do a similar thing called rispinos they have sweet and savoury flavours too, I think I prefer the snack a jacks as they are rice and corn, the rispinos are just rice.

I have just had a M&S Count on us raspberry pavlova, oh delicious, yesterday I had a M&S Zabaglione Peach trifle, it comes in a glass and is really yummy.I think we are working our way through the COU range at the moment!!
