We had nice weather yesterday right up until tea time then it started raining and hasn't stopped since. The wind is so strong that the rain is going sideways and has got a bit of ice in it. Kevin had to get a bus home last night (    ) because the car is STILL being mended and said the rain felt like he was being sandblasted. Its good for him to see how the other half (me) lives!! I just hope it stops in time for my walk with George later.

Melissa - how are your muscles today??

I have got aching leg bones (the ones between the knee and the ankle) - Kevin said I have been rubbing them for some weeks now, but last night it was enough to keep me awake. Does anyone else who walks a lot have this problem?

Carol - I think the man you work with did possibly the worst thing it is possible to do to a dieter. I don't find it a problem (well not much of one) to say 'no thank you' if something is OFFERED to me, but I can be easily sabotaged if I am told that something has been bought SPECIALLY for me. Its like throwing a present back in someones face - my rationing goes - they have gone to the effort to think about you.... its a sign that they like you.... etc, etc. I wouldn't say anything right now, but if he carries on buying you sweets then you might have to develop some sort of strategy for dealing with it. Don't ask me what though!

OK - I need some advice - Kevin and I are having to go on a foster carers training day on Saturday. In the invitation letter we are told that a 'buffet lunch will be provided' and tea/coffee and snacks. I have spoken to someone who went through the training last year and she tells me that the 'snacks' are danish pastries in the morning and doughnuts in the afternoon - but worse - because the training is on a Saturday the 'buffet lunch' is a monumental takeaway from the local chippy laid out on dishes which we help ourselves to! So I said 'well, thats OK I'll just take my own packed lunch' - and she said that she didn't think that was particularly a good idea because even the lunch probably forms part of our assessment (whether we are picky eaters, whether we might encourage eating disorders, etc). Anyone got any ideas about how I can deal with this??

I thought it was supposed to be showers today! This is torrential!!!!

Veggie - does that cake count in your calories????? :nono:

My leg muscles ache too. I got a pedometer last week (the one from Boots, it was only £8 ish, hope its accurate) and my walk home from work is 2.9 miles. That's much further than I thought. However, since I found that out, my legs have been aching :dizzy:

Sarah, your buffet lunch dilemma is a tricky one. It seems strange that all the food they are going to provide are quite fatty - doughnuts and chips. I think if I was you, I would eat the lunch, but in moderation. That way, they will see you are not a fussy/picky eater who would pass on bad habits to a child but they will also see that you are able to not go overboard on the fattening food. I think it would be acceptable during the morning/afternoon snacks to just have the tea or coffee, at least on one occasion anyway. Good luck for Saturday :)

Carol, did the chunky Kit Kat affect your weigh in? I hope not. Work colleagues seem to like sabotaging our efforts. I work in an office with three other skinnies and they are forever bringing in chocolates, cakes and other home-made goodies. It makes me  sometimes but they think they are being nice.

flumper 02-20-2002 04:00 AM

lol my friends to bring out the sweeties and goodies and always offer me them even though they know im dieting they say its because they feel sorry for me!!!

Not sure if this helps, but a friend who is a nurse told me it is normal for your legs, especially knees to ache when you lose weight. Something about them being less compressed and needing a while to adjust. I had very sore knees after both the babies.
I think you should eat the lunch, but not the snacks Sarah. I don't think it would hurt to point out that a healthier option might be nice though....I think most parents these days worry about giving their kids healthy food. I can't stand having to eat unhealthily in public...see someone skinny eating a bar of chocolate oin public and no one bats an eyelid, but if you are fat you can see people looking thinking 'she shouldn't be eating that'. I hope they aren't 'testing' you all the time, they should help you relax so they can see what you are like and which children should be placed with you.

How strange about the pains in the knees - you sort of expect losing weight to stop all that sort of thing - but it does make sense. I wonder if that explains the pain in my shin bones.

I agree with you completely, Geneve, on EVERYTHING that you say - there certainly are double standards about eating anything in public where larger people are concerned. No one bats an eyelid when a thin person munches through pizza/pie/fish/burger and chips every day for lunch, but if a fat person just puts one chip in to their mouth you can almost feel everyone in the vicinity think 'Well, no guessing about how she got THAT big!' Its because of that exact reason why I am almost phobic about eating in public nowadays!

One positive thing - worrying about the buffet has taken my mind away from worrying about the actual training... which is a surprise now I have seen the agenda! This Saturday seems to be dedicated to the younger kids - we are warned to wear clothes we don't mind crawling around the floor in because they will be lots of role playing. Looking down the list I doubt I will feel like much lunch anyway because the topic to be discussed immediately before the break concerns dealing with the trauma of sexual abuse in the 0-11s....

I've been thinking about it and, well, no matter which way I turn I will be judged. If I eat the food provided they are going to look at me and think 'fat cow, she's out of control' and if I don't eat it they are going to think that I am a faddy eater! I can't win. Its at times like this I really resent being large. Well - seeing as I can't miraculously change my size I am going to go with my gut feeling and just be open and say that I am on a diet.

I will give the snacks a miss and if there isn't a healthy option at lunch time then I will just have fish and not eat the batter - with perhaps a helping of mushy peas.

Its going to be sooooooooo hard though - fish and chips are one of my favourites.

On a positive note - because of all this rain I dug out and tried on a waterproof coat I bought myself a few years ago and have never worn because it has always been too small - :) - and it fit perfectly! The only downside is that its exactly like the coat the Queen wears when she is in her country tweeds (but definitely not as good quality).

And another one....

flumper 02-20-2002 10:13 AM

ty bpb a sarah she loves pooh and friends downside is i cant change threads cos she screams, srah cant you fone the social work dept and ask them what sort of lunch it will be , ask if it is ok to bring something healthy for yourself doesnt matter what anyone else thinks about that after all you are losing the weight so you can be fit and healthy to truly enjoy having a child in your care.........oh nearly forgot when i started walking up and down to school i got sore shind like red hot pains DH says its called shin splints!!! but it does go away i think stretching and doing the walk every day helps eventually you notice you can do it without it hurting you could ask stef about them though...................and how do you attach an image!!!!

Hi, Finally made it in to read all the posts and catch up with everyone. Don’t know about Flumpers wee one, but all the images are making me smile. Having a horrible day, I’m doing a really boring task in the office and it is taking ages, besides that people keep asking me things they should be phoning the helpdesk about, but cause I’m the only one IT bod sitting here they just ask. The chunky kit kat didn’t affect my weight loss, was down 3lbs and am still floating on air.

The Kit Kat buying incident was a one off hopefully. My weight can’t handle one of them every day / week.

Managed to get up early this morning and pedal that exercise bike. I watched Bread on UK Gold while it was on. I really used to fancy Adrian in it when it was on the first time round, after watching it again this morning I’m really beginning to wonder about my taste in men! We had all that torrential rain first thing this morning but luckily by lunchtime it had cleared up & I walked round the Business Park in lovely sunshine. Only thing is loads of ‘nice weather’ walkers were out there too. I prefer it when it is quiet & I can daydream my way round.

Melissa I did the pink Lorraine Kelly vid last night – I only ever do two of the sections at one time, plus the warm up & cool down. Prefer the cool down on the pink tape as the green one needs two people – I try & do it myself, but don’t think I do it quite right. Doing the green one tomorrow, never done the third section in that one yet, still trying to get the rhythm through the second section.

About to try & sneak away from work - only an hour early – want to go swimming with my boys. Sean has his lessons & Steven loves a splash around in the water. Plus I have already counted the points for my chips – can already smell them.

I don't know if should post my weight...I have a real problem weighing myself in the mornings, I'm usually too busy getting the kids out of the door.I thought I'd lost a pound this week, but I moved the scales to the kitchen and now it looks like I've lost 4! Talk about a dilemma...do I take the loss as my own, or do I dare move the scales back upstairs and try again???
I think I should take the weight loss as mine, I'm out for a curry toningt. I have no idea of the values, I'm gambling on Veggi biriani as the best, or maybee a tandoori mixed grill. Can anyone help me out with that one?
DH suggests I go for a vindaloo which will be too hot to eat at all!
Sarah, in my experience children much prefer the larger, softer lap for a sit and a cuddle!

OMG I went to see Lord of the Rings last night and don't you miss a lot when you do't get on the boards for a night. Taken me all day to catch up.

The dreaded weigh in tonight and I don't think I've lost - no reason why not - but there you have it.

I have just made a curry - all free on the SW red days - eat mine on my return. I am really looking forward to something with some real taste.

Didn't like Lord of The Rings. Didn't know the story and it wasn't obvious to me that there wasn't any more to it than the ring being found and it was going to be returned. Brilliantly made film with the effects etc, but not for me thank you.

Still trying to sort out Vanilla Sky - has anyone else seen it yet. ?Friend in America was told that 2nd time around was better. She thinks that the person who told her that must have shares in it LOL.

Oh well - off I go to the scales - see ya later!!
