Anyone in the UK on Xenical ?

 Hi, I started taking alli 10 days ago so far so good !! My mum lost masses of weight on this last year and has still kept it off, I am very overweight and was starting to get really down so I thought I'd try this,
I lost 5 pounds in the first two days !!!! but nothing since so far, but my clothes feel very loose, I am looking at everything I eat which makes this work for me, I have had no side effects as yet, daren't push it ! I am an ex slimming world consultant so I really should be able to just diet? but it really doesn't work like that unfortunately,
I think the best thing about Alli is that it is like having a slimming club leader with you 24 / 7 telling you not to put that in your mouth! I have never felt really hungry and am so excited to be losing weight again, I hope this stays off this time as I have lost five stone twice in the last 8 years and put it all back on again and more, I'm sure there are many of you who know what that feels like, If I can help anyone out, I'd love to help and would love to have some support too )

I was prescribed Xenical at the start of this year and to be honest, I didnt find them any good. If you are on a low fat diet there is no need to take them as the instructions tell you only take one when meal over 'something' grams of fat. Some people swear by them but for me they didnt seem to acheive very much

Celtic Spirit 07-13-2007 10:25 AM

yes i was on it last year and had to stop taking it. I took a really bad reaction was ill covered in a rash and being sick and had a very bad tummy. If you can do it naturally.

Boxing Clever 07-30-2007 07:10 AM

If it helps you to recognise all of those fatty foods that were sliding under the radar before then - go for it hunny!

I have a friend who took Xenical - but as she was a sweet eater - lots of sugar but little fat - it did NOTHING for her either - to her great disappointment.

I discussed it with my GP - but as my food diary shows it is quantity with me - I eat quite a healthy, balanced diet - just I tend to eat of it for 2 - I am not being prescribed it!

Willpower!!!!!

clairec 07-30-2007 08:35 AM

Hi crazee, I am on xenical too. I have been for 2 months now and have lost 23lbs. I am also working out at the gym 3x per week and writing down everything I eat. I couldnt have done this without it, believe me I tried! I've written about it here in more detail.

Laineyt75 08-05-2007 06:56 AM

hello, I am new but I saw this and had to reply. I have just started xenical, I have only had one mishap, where I thought something was low in fat when it obviously wasn't. I am hoping this works for me. I have lost 5 stone in the past with slimming world but have high anxiety levels so cannot cope with the classes.

clairec 08-05-2007 07:11 AM

hey lainey, good luck! I used to have anxiety disorders too (agoraphobia at one stage) but its all disappeared since I have lost weight. Xenical doesnt stop me feeling hungry but it stops me binging which was my main problem. Good luck!

Welcome to the forum Lainey  I have a problem going to classes too, I like ones where I can sit at the back and not talk. :o I've recently started having panic attacks so it's just got worse. :( :)

Hi, I've finally found some fellow Xenical users with some positive experiences. I've been looking around the web for over a week now and was only reading the horror stories from people using Xenical.

Me, I'm on day 10 and so far so good. No experience of the reported side-effects as seems to be going well. I've lost 23lb in 3 months under drs. supervision and have been prescribed Xenical after my weightloss fell to only 2lb last month despite all my efforts.

I've done WW, SW etc in the past with some success but always return to my old habits. This time I want to do it on my own (with some web support of course:D)

Kitty

p.s. I only weigh in monthly with the dr. so can't say for certain that the Xenical has helped yet.

clairec 08-08-2007 06:16 AM

kforkitty - yeah, xenical has been really good for me! cant praise it enough. ive lost 27lbs now (in 2 months) and am going to come off it as I wasnt using it with every meal anyway. Its definitely helpful where binge eating is a problem.

Aren't you worried that you'll gain weight when you come off or find it really hard to get to goal. I've just assumed that providing I continue to lose the dr. will precribe me the Xenical until I at least achieve a BMI in the normal range (hence my current 170 goal).

Thanks for your thoughts.

clairec 08-08-2007 06:25 PM

not in the slightest because I am not relying on the xenical to lose my weight for me. I follow a restricted calorie controlled diet and go to the gym 3x per week. Xenical doesnt reduce my appitite so its not going to suddenly increase when I'm off it. Xenical, if anything, was there to give me a kick start. It helped me to overcome the urge to binge eat when faced with an emotional situation. I am no longer in the habit of turning to food when I feel emotional so why would I put the weight back on? There is the possibility that weightloss will slow down but no reason to suspect it will be less than 2lb per week as I am very in control. I have only been taking 1 or 2 per day anyway (recommended is 3 per day) and have come off them now as I no longer feel I need to take them.

Xenical definitely has a place with people who found it hard to lose weight in the past, and if it takes a tablet to lose the weight then so be it. It's not a big deal and I really don't understand why people are so against them when they have such a huge role in helping some excessively obese people. It was that or die slowly and painfully for me and I am glad to say I took the right option.

I hear what you are saying. Other than my DH I've only told one other person I'm taking the Xenical. I'm even having trouble convincing myself that its a legitimate thing to do and I'm not 'cheating' myself. However I knew that I will never get anything close to goal losing 2lb a month and I need to lose quicker, in order to keep me motivated. So I'll keep taking the tablets for now and hope they do the trick.

I don't feel that i have lost weight, just inches, some of my clothes are feeling bigger. I will have to see when i go and see my dr in a couple of weeks. have weighed myself with my home scale but they say that i have stayed the same. As i saod we will have to see what happens.

KforKitty 08-11-2007 06:15 PM

Update

Well I gave in yesterday and weighed myself, I really needed to know that the Xenical was doing its job. And guess what - it is. 5lb lost in 11 days:carrot: Had a minor 'side-effect' the day after eating grilled salmon which is surprising considering oily fish is supposed to be beneficial. I think if I have salmon again i will serve it just with veggies ( I had it with a Quinoa tabboleh which I'd made from a Food Doctor recipe).

I hope this lasts.

KforKitty 08-24-2007 05:34 AM

I'm so happy with my decision to take Xenical. I've lost 12lb in less than 4 weeks, quadrupling my weightloss the previous month. Only thing I regret is not going to the doctor's sooner.

How's everyone else doing?

Kitty

KforKitty 09-07-2007 07:13 AM

Thought I'd update to see how others are going with Xenical: Week 6 for me and I've lost 15lb for a total of 38lb:carrot: I'm sure that if I hadn't had the Xenical I'd be really struggling by now.

Wow Kitty, thats fab!!! Really need to make a doctors appointment soon.

So does xenical get rid of the fat u eat or do u just have 'bad' side effects?

Yes, Xenical stops you absorbing about a third of the fat you eat. However its not a ticket to eat a fatty diet as eat more than about 15-20 grams of fat in one meal and there'll be consequence. Fortunately I've had very few and those I've had are minor. A gram of fat has 9 calories so following a low-fat diet of 45g of fat a day means that 15 of those grams (or about 135calories) pass through my gut unabsorbed.

Like I said Xenical for me has turned a struggle for every pound in to a relatively easy weightloss task.

To have it prescribed you have to have a BMI over 30 or a 'co-morbidity' such as heart disease, high blood pressure or diabetes.

Any questions, fire away.

Moonchild 09-12-2007 02:19 AM

Hmmm sounds quiet good....thanx Kitty. Will definetely make an appt with my doctor. My weightloss is going somewhat ok now, but it's still a struggle, and anything helps.

emzi_bops 09-19-2007 05:56 AM

Hi.
Im new to using Xenical. I started properly yesterday.
Ive been reading up on it for weeks, whilst waiting to go to the doctors and then having to wait for a blood test and results, and all i found really was bad comments about the sides effects!, this still DIDNT put me off.

Seeing this post tho, i see that theres at least one person who is finding it good to use, and hopefully ill be another.

butterflykim 09-19-2007 08:30 AM

KforKitty 09-19-2007 06:19 PM

Hi Kim

I've posted a few times about my weightloss journey. After losing 40 lb (17 whilst on Xenical) I've still got much further to go than your 50 lb and that's just to be no longer 'obese'. I felt just like you the first few days, didn't really know if it was working as I had no 'issues' like others had seemed to have. However, although I was only being weighed monthly by the Dr. I cracked after about 11 days and weighed myself in a chemist to show a 5lb loss:carrot: I've not looked back since and as off last Friday I'd lost 17lb in 7 weeks. I see my GP on Monday for my 3rd month's prescription and I know I have more than exceeded my 3 month goal in the first two months (6kg in 3 months)

Any questions just ask.

Kitty

butterflykim 09-20-2007 09:07 AM

hi kitty
even i could't resist the scales today. went to chemist and got weighed and i've lost about 5lbs so far. yay. at least my husband is happy coz i've been moaning so much at him n telling him that the tablets were not happy. now he can be at peace. he he he.:)

KforKitty 09-22-2007 07:34 AM

Down another 3lb this week for a total of 43lb (20lb in 8 weeks of which has been on Xenical). How's everyone else doing?

Kitty

SarahJayne 09-25-2007 09:54 AM

I have been on Xenical for about a year now and have gone from 309lbs to 261lbs (as of my weigh in today). I find that more than anything Xenical acts as training wheels as I am developing a healthier lifestyle. I am not overly worried about coming off of it when the time comes because the hopes is by then the lifestyle I have been living for the past year will just be how I live. I mean, I have to keep bellow 40 grams of fat a day and I also count my calories to make sure I am not over 2000. So, I find Xenical helps rather than does the work.

SarahJayne 09-25-2007 09:56 AM

Also, in the entire year I have been on it I have had only one 'side effect' moment. If you follow the guidelines it isn't going to be an issue. It is when people don't stay within those guidelines that they find themselves running to the loo.

I saw my GP yesterday to get my prescription for month 3 and she was amazed that I'd lost 5.5kg (12lb) in the 5 weeks since I'd last seen her. I told her that it was thanks to the Xenical but she told me that it was me that was doing the job (which I know) and the Xenical is only the tool to help me do the job.

I'm getting so many complements now I've dropped two dress sizes, plus I'm getting told I look taller:carrot:

Kitty

SarahJayne 09-25-2007 11:57 AM

Yup, I think that is the way we have to look at it or it is just another short term loss. I know it feels different now..I have been eating 'differently' for a year which is much longer than I have ever lasted before. It also gets you used to accepting slower loss at times but looking at the bigger picture.

Laineyt75 10-02-2007 05:53 AM

I have managed to loose a Stone and a half in 8 weeks, I am now experiencing griping stomach pains, has anyone else had this or am I a freak LOL. Well done to all above, it's so good to have this support and know that their are tohers out there.

KforKitty 10-02-2007 10:22 AM

Lainey

My loss on Xenical is about the same as yours (21lb) in 9 weeks. Last couple of days I have had some tummy problems (constipation and wind). However I was away at the weekend so my normal eating pattern was altered (although still on plan) plus I had alcohol for the first time since taking the Xenical. Yesterday evening my constipation resolved itself in a fairly dramatic fashion but I'm still not that comfortable in the tummy department today. Hope this is just a 'blip' and things will settle back to normal.

Kitty

SarahJayne 10-02-2007 12:35 PM

I had constipation a few weeks in too and there is a Xenical support board that I read where a lot of people have had the same thing. Nearly all of us have been given the advice to take a look at our fat grams and that we may need to up them a bit (since most of us go super strict right away). Sounds gross but sometimes you need things to stay a little bit 'lubed'. So, it you are very low under the 40 gram limit think about upping it. The Xenical people told me not to go bellow 20 grams.

Laineyt75 10-05-2007 05:06 AM

My tummy is still not 100%, I was also bunged up, however, I had a slice of my daughters birthday cake and my god, i am no longer, I am constantly looking at amounts of fat, my hubbie says that i am becoming a bit obsessive about it all. I am sure if he was on xenical then he would understand.

SarahJayne 10-07-2007 10:20 AM

We need to be a tad obsessive at first but soon enough you will just have a feel for it. The harder times are when things slow down a bit. Watch your calories too and it should stay moving in the right direction.

butterflykim 10-17-2007 11:40 AM

:) hi all. sorry been away for a while, computer problem. its great every body is doing very well. well done. i went to see my GP last thursday and got weighed and so far i've lost 7kgs. yaye.:carrot: am still watchin wat i eat. the problem i've had is that i can't do a weight tracker. i've tried so many times but i can't do it. can somebody tell me how to do it plz. keep going guys. :smug:

butterflykim 10-17-2007 11:43 AM

:) hi again. can someone plz tell me how many calories should i consume in a day to speed the weight loss. thanks.:smug:

SarahJayne 10-17-2007 01:45 PM

That depends on your size at the moment and nobody actually told me but I am 261 pounds as of my last weigh in and I notice that I loose if I keep to under 2000 calories a day. Though most of the time I try to keep closer to 1500 and end up at about 1800.
