Yep - you have to eat more to lose weight. Not like mad amounts but basically, like Sarah said, if your body believes more food's coming (based on you starting to give it more) it won't be so cross about giving up the fat. If you zig zag the theory is (I haven't tried this yet) that you'll confuse your body sufficiently into just keeping up wih you instead of knowing exactly what to expect and adjusting to that. I would say that for your age and weight you are eating too little and your body's now trying thang onto its insulation.

Just having a left brained moment, but what is your BMR? Maybe I'll go to fitday and see....
|
I like your new picture NJ.
BMR is your basal metabolic rate - the number of calories your body needs to keep you alive if you stayed in bed all day and never moved. Mine's apparently 1456. |
Thanks Doughnut... I couldn't think of it at all...I like my new pic too, sent it to lovely hubs and told him to buy me one for Valentines day....
Did you ever find it on fitday CG? |
ok ill try it, i just hope i wont put on weight :-(

Freethetoys - if you put on weight while eating the same cals as your BMR you really would need to go and see the doctor. The government keep telling us that the recommended daily amount for a woman to MAINTAIN is 2000 cals - and the more you weigh the higher your BMR is.
CG and Chris, I think BMR is worked out according to age/weight/general activity. |
Free... your diet seems low fat but watch the sugar!..... cereal bars, ice cream are bad for that etc.. it converts straight into the bad stuff !......
you may put on the 1st week or so... as your body is thinkin woo hoo food at last.... but after then you should see results with exercise... |
I'm up just over a pound this week so I'm back to where I was 2 weeks ago. Starting to feel a little disillusioned with it all again, that Monsoon dress seems like it gets further away every week. But I found a bike that I can buy second hand for £35 so maybe that will give me the kick up the backside I need.
|
Wanna - I'm feeling a bit the same as you... I think I'm going to get out the food scales and start keeping my food and exercise diary again. I'm not sure why I stopped... I know I'm getting a bit heavy handed with my portions. :(
|
WWAB.... stick with it... i put on 3lb las week after s/s... the week before.. so was back to where i started this challenge... but i hadnt been gd.... i however have been angelic this week... (well stuck to my programme) and lost 2lb again so.. its working already... HOWEVER... i havent really lost much since oct.. (lots of reasons) but dropped a dress size... .. so keep with it... !
i need to get some exercise in... didnt feel too well last week.. but will go spinning 2nite.... even tho its all booked up i will go early hehe.. will sneak on a bike.. a bike is gd... you can sit & watch tv and peddle away .... esp at £35.... bet thats cheeper than your monsoon dress! |
roll on febuary / march warmer weather i say... you dont fancy salads etc when its freezing & blowing a hooley.... ! althought i love the cold...
but i will for one be complaining about said heat once it gets here .... im not one to be easily pleased lol |
Sarah - get the book and scales out immediately and don't feel down. I'm a fine one to talk normally but today i feel positive :) i've just looked properly at your stats and seen how far to come. You've lost absolutely tons and you don't have that far to go. You can do it!

Thanks for the kind words Sarah and Lou.
My bike is actually a proper outdoors bicycle - I intend to cycle to Uni every day, as walking hasn't done any good at all. I lost weight before cycling in but that bike was a real cheapy and its pretty done. I already have an indoor bike but it doesn't seem to help either - seems I need to get out and really challenge my body to lose weight. And my Monsoon dress was bought in the sale last week - reduced from £85 to £25.50! |
thats a gd bargain!>...
ahh u can get an indoor cycle trainer if u have an outdoor bike... cycleops i think they are called (one make anyway) ...... and wanna cylce indoors www.wiggle.com is a gd cycle store... or evanscycles ... if u need kit to get started.... are you keeping the speed up when u cycle indoors.. getting hot & sweaty??? or to interested in TV and just have the legs move a little?????! try turning up the resistance to make ur legs work .... bit far for you.. but.... evans cycles do trail rides they look cool... might sign up .... there are others.. too... |
Weigh in day tomorrow ... and the scales aren't lookin' too good for me - but I shall keep my fingers crossed :crossed: for an over night miracle!
See y'all tomorrow morning! :grouphug: |

I'm going for a new start tomorrow as I haven't been sticking to any healthy eating plans. |
I wished I hadn't looked now :(
I am up to 96.3 kg - about 15st 2lb - no wonder my trousers are tight. This is the heaviest I have been -ever! I blame payday - I can afford to eat now!! BU**ER. |
My problem is that I am eating EXTREMELY healthily - or so I thought.
Culprit no 1: I got the Diet Doctors' book for Chrimbo and I got all enthusiastic after reading it - their eating plan is very balanced - and VERY windy .... basically low fat protein, oily fish - and loads of fruit, nuts, seeds, beans and veggies. *parp* - sorry, pardon me! Culprit no 2: I've been watching The Truth About Food - once again, all the info given in the various programmes makes sense... On their website you can watch the segments from previous and FUTURE programs so I 'pre-watched' the soup diet segment in next week's programme - and it seemed like an excellent idea - so I've made gallons of soup - yet more veggies and beans - *parp* (pardon me!) BUT they also have got a really good bit which shows that if we eat more dairy foods our bodies will eliminate fat *polite cough* by way of the loo... then, of course, there was the segment that said if we eat more protein we feel more satisfied for longer. (For me dairy and protein eaten on the same day equals... wind ... what a surprise!) Well.... put that all together and you end up being the one person that NOBODY wants to be in a small room with ... with a net weight gain of 2lbs in a week. *parp* - pardon me! |
Oh dear! I'm sure you'll straighten out soon!
I do like those little pro biotic drinks. They seem to keep me settled in the old tum department  Are you just eating too much healthy stuff? |
Oh yes, EVERYTHING is healthy - its just that when you put together all the stuff that the various plans/diets say you ought to eat, in the quantities they say you ought to consume, it works out to far more than I'm used to.
The Diet Doctors say to ignore calories and to do the old fist and palm of hand way of measuring food protein and carbs - plus beans/pulses, seeds and nuts and 6 to 8 portions of fruit & veg a day... *parp* (pardon!) The biggest calorific increase is to my breakfast.... the seeds and nuts I've added to my oats and fruit have more than doubled the calories in my breakfast. (Tasty though!) Ah probiotics... I shouldn't have a problem that way - the way I've increased my dairy is by having a couple of low cal bio yoghurt snacks. I just think my digestive system is in shock. :faint: |
 @ Sarah's parping.... I'm right there with you luv, my bum rumbles like no ones business.....Dave and the kids keep telling me not to eat so many veggies... but I love em and they fill me up
