  • My food delivery finally turned up and I had to give the poor Sainsbury delivery man a restorative cup of tea and a bit of a sit down. Apparently he was stuck in a closed section of the motorway on one of the most exposed, raised parts - where the wind comes straight across the Moor from miles and miles - and his truck was being pushed up on to two wheels by the force of the wind while he was sitting in it but when he got out he nearly got blown off the motorway! Poor bloke looked completely traumatised.

I've just had a report about my missing polytunnel - apparently its wrapped around a tree halfway across the Moor!

My windchimes have now gone and so has the washing whirly go round dryer thing - and our garden shed is looking a bit lopsided and the wrought iron table canopy/pergola thingy isn't looking so great, either (mind you, that was still looking a bit sad after the last lot of wind!)

WILL SOMEONE PLEASE TURN IT OFF NOW!!!!
  • sorry... i was drying my hair hahaha....

    ;0)

  • I want to live at Sarahs just for like a day or 2. Dogs are always swimming, stuff is blowing all over the place, sheds just arrive in the backyard. Sounds like nothing is ever boring over there!!!!

Hoping to run tonight, if not boot camp, it's cold and I'm being babyish. I've been spoiled so much by the warm weather this winter. I need to workout tonight because this is the weekend of turning the big 40 and I'm sure there will be eating and drinking plenty (I'm not worrying about it either). Tomorrow my work crew wants to go out, now that will start at 2 in the afternoon since we are teachers, so it has the potential to be ugly by nightfall. Saturday is my actual b-day so I'm doing whatever I want. Knowing me that could be going for a run or some other sort of exercise but if I don't feel like it than it's not happening. I think Saturday night I'll hang out with my Mom and chill out a bit

40 sounds old to me..oh well nothing I can do about it.

Lou hope the phone call comes soon...waiting for a call is the worst.
  • Yes it is all going on at Sarah Ann's isn't it??! Sure she is not Dorothy in Kansas??!! I don't know what plants you have in your garden but I bet they have ben waving the white flag now, given up and gone home. I guess you'll have to buy another whirly gig (dryer go round). It is a wonder the Sainsbury guy didn't sling your stuff at you! I would hate to have to go out again in that.

Mind you , we are laughing at Sarah's & doggies expense (literally if she has to buy another whirly gig) but if it si that strong there may have been fatalities or very close.
  • Morning. Well I just got back from doing some shopping. I'm going to make some more soup today. I'm really craving comfort food at the minute.

Sarah your winds sound really bad, things flying around your garden
  • Good grief it's windy. Half of town seems to be cordoned off. I nearly blew over twice walking to tesco.
  • I'm losing my mind. Well my soup is cooking and I feel like I've gone back in time. Barley lentil it's like I'm back home
  • Hello everyone I am a bit fed up

I've gained two pounds by being a greedy piggy why do I do this to myself when I am so near to my target after coming down from 15 stone.

The weather is complete crap here also didn't the wind blow my fence down but my darling Kerry and Ricky (my rabbits) didn't run away they just stayed on the lawn.

Thank you all for your kind words about my father he is still doing well.

Good luck with the job Lou fingers crossed for you.

CG I could just do with a bowl of your soup now.

I still havent bought Eve yet I must do that this weekend.

    Take good care everyone

    Michele
  • I'm so excited, I got home and I have a huge box of veg! I thought the deliveries were only starting next week, but I'm not complaining. It means I can spend the evening working out recipes to use them in

(the really sad thing is that I opened the front door and I could smell them before I saw them (it was dark). I was standing there thinking "there are vegetables in this porch" so I prodded around with my feet for a bit trying to work out where they were )
  • OMG this wind is very SCARY - DH has only just managed to get home - less than 7 miles took him 90 minutes because both sides of the motorway have been shut! We've also had a hour long power cut, just glad I use gas for cooking.

I'm hoping our insurance will cover us for the greenhouse, pergola, washing line and shed (yes, our shed finally disappeared) - we've also lost our Sky dish and front garden fence The Met Office website gives for it being pretty much the same tomorrow.

Helen - How did you find out about your organic veg delivery? I've tried to find one in this area but without any luck so far.

RSG and Peacock - I'd much prefer my life was quieter - I'm not that interested in being scared.
  • I just looked on the internet for "organic vegetable leeds" or something along those lines. I did find a website with a big list, but I can't remember where. I'll scout round for a bit. The place I'm getting them from is actually an organic food shop just round the corner from work which makes it handy for popping in to give them my key/make changes to my order etc, pick up other bits and pieces I might fancy. there were a couple which were more farm based, but it just made it that bit trickier to set it up in the first place, hand over the key etc etc because I couldn't just pop in at lunchtime.

I have a pile of recipe books in front of me to come up with some ideas for the next week, I can work out what I'm going to make and pick up any extra ingredients tomorrow
  • Sarah I apologize, I didn't mean to make light of your situation at all. That is scary, I'm glad your hubby is home safe and sound. Be careful with all that wind.
  • Goodness you have got it bad up there Sarah!

I've not been blown about too much but last night there was an accident on the M25 that stopped us for a fair few minutes! Thankfully it wasn't a lorry and I didn't have to pass too many high-sided vehicles since I'm always slightly worried that I'll get squished underneath!

I got bashed in the nose - twice by 2 different peoples last night, and 2 side kicks to the EXACT SAME spot on my ribs by 2 different people. It probably wouldn't have happened if I had been less tired. I'm feeling better now, but am taking today off exercise and I'm going to go home at 4pm for a nice nap!

The scales are being kind to me Precious scales
  • Something's a bit wierd with me. I haven't eaten lunch yet!!!

I've had Kashi musli for breakfast, cherries, grapes, pecans and half my cottage cheese and ryvitas and now I just can't be bothered to eat... VERY odd!
  • Morning ladies,

If it's not one thing in this house, it's a bloody another! Now the fridge has gone kaput! I already had the Landlords fridge stop working about a month ago and bought my old faithful in from out of the garage... and on Weds night, when I was making a cuppa, I realised that the stuff in the fridge didn't seem very cold, although the freezer was working fine. Had the repair man out yesterday and need a new part, which has been ordered and should be here today or tomorrow. Better than the cost of a new fridge. So now we have two big coolers out on the back deck acting as a fridge.

Good news on the loo, it's all fixed and installed and is a very lovely loo, it's round and more apeasing to the eye, the last one was an oblong shape and very odd to look at and sit on.

Sarah, hope you're coping all right with the wind and that it's starting to calm down a bit now. I'm a bit scared of high winds, stems back to our non Michael Fish hurricane about 18 years back, when I was on my own with J as a baby, heard the wind, woke up with power, power went out and as I knew nothing about the said hurricane, took J to the baby sitters and went six mile to work, took me over an hour and a half with falling trees all around and sitting in the fefw cars of traffic that were stupid enough to be out as well with the car swaying from side to side...it was before six in the morning too and all dark....I hope your insurance covers your losses too. You're a very lovely woman giving the Siansbury man a cuppa, I'm sure he was shaken.. if it had been me out there, I'd have prob asked you if I could stay the night, rather than go out in that again.

Jen, hope you're ribs aren't too bad and you have a nice nap this afternoon and feel rested up for it.

CG... how was the barley soup? Or was that lentil? You've got some cold weather heading your way, get the wood in woman...we've got it too...

RSG, get your run in, cos the late weekend doesn' t look nice at all.

We went to Hannah's chorus concert last night, I was well impressed. The girls all wear long black dresses and the boys, waist coats, shirts, and nice trousers, they all looked very smart and they did such a wonderful job singing. It was televised on the local town channel, so Dave recorded it as well, so Mum will be able to enjoy it too. Their last song of the evening was 'you raise me up' and they dedicated it to the troops over in Iraq and had a slide show showing scenes from 9/11 and the troops overseas, made me well up and they sang the peice beautifully. They had an acapella group too, and they were amazing. I really enjoyed all of it.

Right, well I need to get dressed and sort some things out in this house. we're all going out to dinner tonight to celebrate J's and Amy's getting together anniversary, so I need t be very good with what I eat today, as I don't think I'll be very good this evening... we're going to a lovely sea food place.

    Ok, take care all....
