Hi ladies,

Sue - I shop online all the time and just love it. Lots of the catalogs I get say free shipping if I order online, so that's even more incentive to shop that way. My newest cool place is personalcreations.com. I have ordered lots from there for Christmas this year. About the Oz diet, well, it's just that he excludes some things that I am not ready to give up for life. And I will be counting calories, not going back on WW. Also, I plan to use the info from the Oz book to guide me, but just won't be following it exactly as written.

Jules - hope tom is better for you today. Curl up with a soft blanket and pamper yourself, sweetie.

Sassy - hey, wouldn't Office Max give you a rain check on the camera? I bet they would if you asked. That was real nice of your DH to help move that big family.

Marti - no offense taken on the Grandma driving comment, lol. I get fairly lead-footed driving out here in the country. Well, when there are no tractors or wagons in my way, lol.

Cristi - I can't tell you how happy I am that you're having this fun time with Josh. I bet you're cooking all his favorites, aren't you? Did he like his room? I'm sorry about your arm. Mary goes to the doc the same day as you - the 6th. We'll know more about the severity of her RA after that.

Mary Kate - hope you had a great T'giving!

Hello to anyone else reading this.

Today I just about finished my Christmas shopping. I even went by the back to get "new" money for the paper guy and mailman. I don't know why, but I'm just not in the Christmas spirit yet, though. The weather here has been beautiful, but turn cold later this week. Maybe a good snow would cheer me up.

Have a good one, chickas!

Red face Morning

Morning Ladies!

Well my schedule is offically screwed up. I went to bed early lastnight so of course I got up early today. Oh well I'll just have a to take a nap later so I can stay up as I have to go back to work tomorrow.

Another reason I'm up so early is my back is killing me! It did rain here as everything is wet outside, so that could be why.

My mother called me lastnight and told me a bit of news. She has been dating a guy for about a month now. She told me this I think because they were text messaging each other on their cell phones and we pay her cell phone bill, so she knows it would show up on the bill. But she said she didn't want to say anything until she was seeing him a while because it could have turned out to be nothing.

He is a Private Investigator, a Sheriff, and he does poly graph tests! I said okay this scares me a bit! lmao. He has been married 3 times and has no desire to marry again, which neither does my mom. He has children, but they are grown up and have children of their own. He lives in Indianapolis, which is about an hour away from my mom and he says he doesn't mind driving down there to see her, which is good because my mom doesn't drive anywhere except in the town she lives in. lol.

I guess he calls her all the time and they also talk online too. She said when they go out he asks her what she wants to do and they do it. He also said he's been to Tennessee a few times and that he would take my mom down there sometime. (She loves Tennessee, just like I do)

My husband said that he would take them out to dinner if the guy drives him and my mom up our way. So my mom is going to ask him.

Like my husband said it will be weird to see her with another man after years with being with my step dad. But I know its good for her. Its been 3 years since he died.

So that is my "news" for today. lol.

Jane -- not sure if they would or not. I guess we could ask them. I just never thought of it. lol.

Well have a Great Day everybody.

Talking Back in the Groove

Good Morning, Ladies.

Unfortunately, I've been MIA since October. Things happening at work and at home, but I see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I've been OP, kinda. A few pounds have crept up on me, but I'm back on the wagon and heading towards my goal, which I abandoned in October.

Here's my tale of woe:

My boss told me that he is being terminated from his job at the law firm where I work. And he's a partner with the firm! I thought when he called me into his office, I was going to get reprimanded for something! You know, when they say, close the door and sit down. That's like the kiss of death. Anyway, he has until the end of December to find a new job. How harsh is that? He's been with the firm for 17 years, has two teenaged children, one going into college next year. He is looking, but it's very difficult for him. He told me that I still have a job (thankfully!).

Later that day, one of the other people I work with asked me to come up and see her. Okay. Not an unusual request. She says, Close the door and sit down. What? She thought I was cleaning out my desk and getting ready to quit because of my other boss's predicament. Whew! What a relief. I thought I was in trouble because I sent her a bunch of chron file copies of her documents and some were from June! See how we always expect the worst? I assured her that I was not going to leave and I was just waiting for my marching orders.

Again, I was upstairs and the HR person asked me to come and see her. She says, Close the door and sit down. What is going on here? I'm not liking this at all. She assured me, again, that I would have a job and as a matter of fact, two new attorneys are starting at the beginning of the year, and I am going to be assigned to work with them. Okay, that's a load off my mind. The bad news is I will have to move upstairs where it is very busy. I'm down on the second floor and very few people in my area. I am going to have to do a lot of adjusting!

DD was up for a promotion, did a mock interview, then was interviewed a few weeks ago for a manager's position. She just found out she got the promotion and she will be getting a big increase in her salary! Good job, Sara! At least, that's one good thing happening.

DH is still having his back pain, and asked his company for a lay-off. He got the lay-off, great severance pay benefits, and will be able to collect full retirement benefits next year when he turns 55. We have that to deal with, now at Christmas time. I cashed in one of my life insurance policies, and I'm sure we will have enough money to get us through December. January the severance checks will start. We wanted them to start in 2007 so that we didn't get taxed for a few weeks in December 2006.

I thought I was going to have to jump out the window, but instead I started eating. I figure that was the lesser of two evils. At least I can lose the weight I gained. Not much, but enough to be concerned about it.

Okay. I'm done now.

I hope everyone is excited about the holiday. I'm slowly getting into the mood, and I want to get there before it's over. I am planning on going to Michael's this weekend to decorate the house. We are going to my parents' house, but I want to get festive ourselves.

Good morning, ladies,

Sassy - your mom sounds very happy with the new bf, and it's cool that he spoils her. Sounds like she was in need of that. His track record with wives isn't so hot, and I'm sure that sent up a red flag for you, and we'll just hope he learned a few things in the meantime, right? Is your back feeling any better?

Liz- good to see you! I, too, feed my face to stuff down emotions, so I have a complete understanding of your dilemma. The old adage "it's not what you're eating, it's what's eating you" was coined with me in mind. Good for you, being back on the wagon. Wow, lots of drama going on at work. When you start your new position in January, even though you'll be busier, just think of the new challenge as an opportunity to stay upwardly mobile. The fact that the company wants you to do this speaks volumes for your abilities. Again, good to see you!

Hello to anyone else reading this.

Ack - I think I may be getting the flu. Stomach pains, nausea, headache, cold sweats. Hopefully, it will go away soon. In the meantime, I'm trying to get the laundry done.

Have a good one, ladies.

Hello ladies...

What a day...weather wise that is. Today has been a weird day for it. So it's like 21 degrees not counting the wind chill, we have freezing rain, looks like little, little, little hail, then there was lightning and thunder, ugh! Supposed to get worse before it gets better. I hate that because tomorrow is my grocery shopping day. May go early just to avoid people, if there are any, lol.

Josh and I went for BBQ and man did he pig out! We got this combo meal that they served in a metal trash can lid, clean of course and the food was on paper. It was enough for 2-3 people and I couldn't even eat enough for one! Did have lots of leftovers though. But this comes with ribs, chicken and pork, corn on the cobb, cole slaw, baked beans, fries, and cornbread. It was sooooo good! Tomorrow afternoon we are headed to the show, not sure what yet. Then we went to Lowes to buy a ceiling fan for our bedroom. Last night I had it on low and V was hot so I went to turn it on high and as I pulled the chain the whole fan came down. It was hanging there swinging by the three wires. It had somehow come out of the screws. V put it back up and pulled on it a little to make sure it wouldn't come down and it did! The bracket broke in half on both sides. Now yes, we could have just bought a new bracket but we had been wanting a new fan anyway. When they build these houses unless you buy it before it is built, which we didn't, they put in the cheapest lighting and such. We've already changed most of it. Anyway...didn't want to be out in this weather but the rain had just started before we left so...

JANE...Josh loved his room. He didn't care that it was messy and he had seen the "new" room (paint and all) the last time he was home this past June. And yes, I have been cooking all his favorites, lol! I am so jealous...you have your shopping all done...so organized. I was organized with the cards this year because there were so many and I didn't want to wait too long but that is it. Not trying to be nosy but what do you give your paperguy and mail person? I actually bought cards for them this year, and the trash guy because he does a good job and is a hard worker and I was going to give them a gift card but I've read that the postal workers can't except cash gifts so I don't know. I hope it's not the flu you are coming down with. Take care of yourself and get plenty of liquids and rest...hopefully it passes.

SASSY...funny thing, my arms are better today and it IS actually cold! But yeah, when the cold is coming they act up bad and it is very painful. I didn't want to take meds for it other than tylenol arthritis, which helps sometimes a little bit. But I am going to get something this time when I go because that is how bad the pain is...just don't want to deal with it anymore. I hope your back is not so bad today. And I TOO would have told the brother "Either get off your arse and do something or leave" that's ridiculous to sit back and watch everyone else work. I'm happy for your mom!

SUE...you are welcome for the tip about Hobby Lobby. Hope you found some good deals!

LIZ...geez, louise...three closed doors in one day would scare the crap out of me. Man, sounds like lots of drama going on there. The company DH works for now is selling and there are so many rumors going around they just want it to hurry up so they know if they have a job or not still. A little frightening to lose a job period but it seems the holidays would be evern worse. Hoping all goes well with you and yours. Didn't realize it had been October since you posted last but glad to see you back!

JULES...THANK YOU for the beautiful card! Seems like blue is the color for cards this year and it happens to be my favorite color!

MICHELLE...hoping you are having a good day today.

Hi to everyone else!

Well, my dieting has gone out the window. I figure it will be until Josh is gone. I am fixing his favorite foods and the funny thing is I haven't fixed a lot of these foods in ages so I am eating it too. I don't usually weigh every day but I am keeping on top of it. And I didn't eat that much today. It's not so much how much I am eating as much as it is what I am eating. Oh well, I am going to enjoy my time with him so...and I should get going. Want to go see how the new fan looks. V came home early to put it up and then will go back to work for a few hours later. Even though it is cold we always sleep with a fan on. Anyway...

Take care ladies, and I hope everyone is having a good day.

Red face Evening All!

Evening all.

Well I went to go lay down and I thought well I will sleep for an hour or two, I wake up 4 hours later! lol. Aw well I have to stay awake all night anyways because its back to work tomorrow night!

Hub is still not back and I'm not happy about that. I'm thinking of giving him a call and seeing when hes coming home. As it is he was over at our friends ALL day yesterday helping them move and then again today. And lastnight of course he came home SORE so I'm sure today he is VERY sore, especially with moving more. Unlike us, our friend is off tomorrow, so I um kinda want my husband home so he can actually REST?! I should have told my husband before he left this morning to try to wrap things up over there around 5 or 6 because we have to work tomorrow, but I didn't.

My back is still hurting, I imagine it will remain hurting until we get the cold weather we are suppsed to be getting. I hardly have eaten today, only had a bagel w/ cream cheese so far. I know that isn't the "healthiest" thing to have, but the bagel is whole grain and its the only thing that sounded good. This new medicine makes me feel crappy. Not quite as crappy as the other meds that I've been on before, but still enough that I don't feel like eating. Which in a way is good, but in a way its bad because I'm a diabetic and can't go that long without eating.

Oh and my husband told me something interesting. Remember I told you that our friend, whom my husband is helping move into their new house has 5 kids and the mom doesn't work, so they are surviving on one income. Well my husband said that he helped his friend set up his kids beds and then the mom came up and made them and told them to come and see. My husband said that the boys have matching Tommy Hilfinger sheets & comforter and the girls have matching Nautica sheets and comforter. Mind you one of their girls with the Nautica sheets is only 1 1/2 years old. Now its really none of our business, but it sorta is because when our friend, whom we also work with, asks us for $$ for gas and food for his lunch, then yes it is our business. How is it they can manage to buy stuff like that but cannot put gas in their car or enough money for his lunch? Now I know what your thinking, "Maybe its second hand or she got it on sale." Because my mom wears a lot of Tommy Hilfinger and other well known "name brands" but they were GIVEN to her by her friend. But nope the sheets/comforters are not second hand as she told my husband that she bought at Macy's and I would think if she got a great bargin on it, she would have told him so. Now maybe she did get a great deal on it, who knows, but its highly unlikely.

My husband even commented after seeing them that we don't even have Tommy Hilfinger or Nautica sheets/comforter. I thought we were "Splurging as it was buying the nice set of sheets and the comforter we did and I got them on sale and I didn't buy them at Macys! I bought them at Linens N Things! I have never even stepped foot into a Macys! Not saying there is anything wrong with them, just not my cup of tea and I have better things to spend my money on.

Oh well I should just mind my own business I guess, but from now on, no more $$ from us.

Liz -- Welcome Back! Sorry to hear about your boss and your husband. Glad that you still have a job though. I know how that is, waiting to get your "pink slip" and worrying all the time about your job. We went through that at our jobs, they sent a few of their accounts over seas and that meant laying off A LOT of people. But they have reassured us that we are fine and they are bringing in new accounts.

Jane -- Yes I'm happy for my mom, as long as he is good to her, which it sounds like he is, so far at least. Yeah the 3 marriages thing did sent up a major red flag, but my mom has been married 2 times, but one of those ended because of death, not divorce. So we'll see, now that we know we will be checking in a little more frequently for sure. lol. Now I kinda know how my mom felt when I was a teenager/young adult and dating. Wow not fun, that is for sure. lol. My back is still sore, thanks for asking.

Cristina -- Glad Josh is enjoying himself. That place you ate at sounds a lot like a place my husband and I ate at a few years back, we had so much food left that we boxed it up and my in-laws had it for dinner the next day! Yeah I know what you mean about not wanting to take stuff other than Tylenol for your pain. I'm with you on that one. I only take the "big" pain releivers when I'm in excruitiating pain and cannot hardly walk because those things pretty much knock me out. lol. Yeah that is not right in my book, if you are there to help, then help, if you don't want to help, then LEAVE, but do not sit there and WATCH me work! Even my mil, who is disabled, probably does more than that guy! She will modify ways of doing things so she can do them herself, may take her a bit longer, but she will get it done. And thanks, I'm happy for my mom too.

Well ladies sorry I rambled a bit, but I needed to get that out I think, even if it isn't none of my business, it still kinda "irked" me a bit.

So take care and thanks for "listening"!

Hi Jules!

Hubby is just now coming home! He called about an hour ago and was on his way home then, but our friends said they would take him out to eat for helping. At first he didn't want to eat without me, but I told him, go on ahead as I feel like crap, so he got a nice meal out of it anyways.

Yeah I never even thought about credit cards. That could be. I have a credit card I am working on paying off, but after that, no more credit cards. Well we do have one that is just for emergencies only and it doesn't have a high limit. I figure if we don't have the money, then we don't need it! lol.

Glad to hear your feeling better and I hear you about TOM! I've been on mine now since October 1st! But then I will go months at a time without one, so it all evens out in the end and its all a part the PCOS I have.

Have a Good one.

Hi ladies...Looks like we got a reprieve from the cold weather for yet another day. We know it is coming, it just keeps getting moved up. Wonder if they can move it to the 14th...since we leave on the 13th? (Sorry Jane)

I did manage half of a walk today between the rain drops. It was warm, just wet. I also did NOT have a snack tonight....and will not. If I can get back to NO food after dinner I will be happy. Or at least need to get some allowable snacks.

Didn't really find much today. I am afraid I am "grinch-like" this year. I don't really know why either.

Sassy- Hope your back gets feeling better. Hey, I have known people like that also....spend or charge until there is no money for the needed things. But, giving the benefit of the doubt, maybe the things were a gift from grandma?? I think that is nice for your Mom...hope things go well.

Jules- Hello. I hope you are feeling better also. I sure don't miss TOM and haven't had it since 1990.

Cristina- Didn't even make it to Hobby Lobby today, so I have that to do yet. I am anxious to get scrapbook things for me and the girls. Now I am thinking of cardmaking...sometime in the future. Glad you and Josh are having a good time!

Jane- I hope you didn't get the flu. Feeling better? Wow...you are finished shopping? I am having a hard time with mine. I am thinking of the bulk of the teen kids gift being "cold, hard cash." All 4 are saving toward cars. And all 4 have every darn thing they need or want. The little ones in CA wanted books, so I am considering Borders gift cards for them and then a toy. Grown kids are even hard. I guess we have all been fortunate enough to be able to buy what we want this year.

Liz- I can see where you would have been in a panic with all the "come in and close the doors." I would have passed out. Thank goodness it all worked out. How does your DH feel about retiring so young? Mine was young, and he hasn't regretted it for a minute. He put over 30 years in a factory and was so tired of it. Is there any help for his back pain? Will he have a hobby or something to keep him occupied? I also understand your eating at the stressful times. That is the story of my downfall. (s) Don't stay away so long. Oh, Good job by your DD. Yay!

I enjoyed Dr. Oz today. He seems so knowledgable and easy going. I just really think he should have a show where he answers questions and gives advice. I find lots of what he says fascinating. (Like the brain today)

Hi to all chickies who may be reading! I am going to go to bed...so I don't eat.

Hi all,

Well my back isn't any better, so I'm not going into work tonight, but we did get a co-worker to agree to come in for me. He owes me anyways since I worked for him on the 4th of July and didn't even get any Holiday Pay for it as it has to be your "Scheduled Day" in order to get Holiday Pay!

Anyways. I haven't gotten anything done at all, except for changing/cleaning the litter pan and taking out the trash earlier in the week, which may or may not be why my back is hurting. I figure its because of the cold weather moving in but I could have moved the wrong way or something too.

Well sorry I'm not too "chipper".

Have a Great Day.

Talking

Today DH comes home from his NY trip. He will ride a bus into DC (where I work) and take the train home with me this evening. He's had an enjoyable time, and I hope it's taken his mind off his leg/back pain. His diagnosis is Piraformas Syndrome, which is the piraformas muscle pinches the sciatic nerve. So, sitting for long periods of time even worsen the pain. His doctor has prescribed a machine that zaps the muscle every so often to help it relax. He has to talk to the tech at the doctor's office and get the insurance stuff out of the way.

He was on short-term disability for 26 weeks, the pain was still there. His company told him that he had to go back to work or he would be terminated. Nice, huh? And they would not accomodate him with telecommuting, either. His boss was not even interested in DH's plight. Just, no, right across the board. I think his quitting was the best thing he could do, mentally being the biggest relief.

Right now DH is doing his stock "thing", which he's done for many, many years. That's why he can retire now. He's looking into some other things, but not really sure exactly what it is he wants to do. It will all fall into place, I'm sure.

Sassy, Your friends certainly have their priorities messed up. I don't have any designer bedsheets. I guess we all have priorities, but I would think gas in the car and food for lunch would be among the top 10!

The temp here in DC is scheduled to go up to 70 degrees. Of course, the weekend weather is looking to be 30 degrees cooler! Bummer. I have a riding lesson on Sunday, so I will have to bundle up. Neither rain, nor snow, nor darkness of night, etc. will keep me from riding. LOL.

Ceiling fans falling from the sky? You are very fortunate you didn't get hurt! Which reminds me of our Lowe's delivery from ****. But, that's for another day. I have to get to work. Drat!

I'll get the Lowe's story posted later or tomorrow. We've just had a bundle of fun things happening to us. Oh, and the roof had to be replaced. Not just the shingles, but the wood underneath had rotted through and we need to have new wood joists or whatever they are called, put in. Yikes!

I have to go now or I'll implode.

Hi All...

JULES...I was sitting in the chair last night across from the fireplace (where I put the card) and it was awesome! I happened to look up and the way the light caught it made it look lit up and like it was a real tree...I kid you not. It really is pretty, and I used to be a Dallas fan...until I lived there for 7 months! I am a die hard Rams, 49'ers and Broncos fan.

SASSY...I too was going to say maybe the friend is using a credit card. Hope your back gets to feeling better soon. At least you are stying home from work and hopefully can get some rest. And TOM since Oct? Wow, that would drive me crazy. I am lucky if I even have one, okay so not lucky. I am just happy that mine are light if and when I have one...menopause ya know.

SUE...I'm thinking our weather is or will be heading your way and it's not good. Yesterday was the freezing rain, thunder and lightning and today we are supposed to get 4-8 inches of snow. Hope you get in the Christmas spirit soon.

LIZ...can't wait to hear your Lowes story, you have me curious now. And 70 degree weather? Ugh, I miss it already. We have been spoiled the last month with not having fall like weather and it jumpe right into winter. It was 70 something on Thanksgiving and it was nice! Sorry for the things that have been going on in your live right now. I do hope things get better for you guys. I just couldn't imagine having to replace a whole roof, joists and all.

JANE...hoping you are well today and not down with the flu.

HI MICHELLE, MARY KATE, MARTI, DEE, TIFFANY, NORMA and anyone reading this.

Not getting any exercise in, nor am I eating like I should. But I kind of put everything on hold until Josh leaves so...went to Wally World to do my shopping this morning. I knew it was supposed to snow today so thought I would go early. Apparently everyone else decided to also. It wasn't too bad though...this time they had plenty of cashiers. It is so freaking cold outside! It's 18 degress and that is not counting the windchill. Brrrrrrr and it's snowing! It is so pretty! I thought I wasn't ready for any of this stuff but there is something so calming and peacful about it. Before it is said and done with we are supposed to get 4-8 inches. I know me and Josh will be out in it later. He always builds a snowman which will be perfect with the Christmas lights. Anywho...going to go to a couple of other threads and then need to go do a couple of things before heading out to the movie. Yes, we are still going. We will probably have to dig my vehicle out by the time we come out but who cares!

Take care ladies and I hope everyone is having a grand day!

Just a quickie...I decided to weigh in and see if I had gained turkey weight. I was so surprised to find that I am STILL 168. So all the walking did keep me from gaining. Now if all the walking will just help me LOSE.
I got my Dr. Oz books today and just skimmed them so far. I will curl up and read tonight. One thing I did note that he says Beta Blockers cause weight gain...my Dr. had flatly denied that. Hmmm... Interesting.

Back later....
