  • Well day four is half way done and I'm still following this diet properly. It gets alittle boring but i'm see some pretty good results. Down 4 pounds as of this morning from tuesdays weight.
Dollypie this diet is basically a detox diet were you eliminate salt and most animal protein and eat whole grains fruit and veggies for as long as possible. Day one you eat 6 half cup servings of grains, beans, rice, and 6 servings of fruit. Day 2-7 you eat one cup of dairy one serving of fruit and half cup of whole grains for breakfast and three servings of grains, three servings of veggies and one fruit for lunch and dinner. Because of the low salt and protein all retained fluid is eliminated. I'm definately not hungry and have lost sugar cravings but it can be a bit repetative unless you research some new recipes. Tonight I'm going to try sweet potato soup made with fresh ginger.
This is a diet that has been used sucessfully to fight cancer and inflamitory diseases so that's why I decided to try it. The swelling in my knee was taking longer than is normal to go away but since eating this way it has almost completely gone. My goal is to continue following this plan until my first xmas party (dec. 9) to let the knee heal as much as possible.
This weekend will be hard but being able to walk properly is very motivating.

Stacy my fingers are crossed for you. hope you scale down.

Card down another pounds isn't that three this week. I'm hoping for snow just to see if the drifts work for me. I must admit I couldn't make myself go out today.

Jcarton The 150's are soooo close, you can do it.
  • Hello all,

Well here it is, the good, bad, and the ugly of it. The good is i am down from my post thanksgiving weigh in. I started this week at 253. I weighed in this morning at 248. Which leads us to the bad. I am still not at ticker weight. The ugly. I am SO close...less than a pound from it....that is just ugly, to be that close and not get there.

Nina- Good job for sticking with it. Any eating plan gets better once those evil craving are gone.

Dolly- Dont you just LOVE a fireplace?!?!? We have one too, we have been in this house about 3 years and i absolutely love it. The house we had before didnt have one, and i didnt know what i was missing. I even love the smell of the fireplace when you walk in the den, smells like a log cabin... just so cozy. Especially with the Christmas tree all lit up...i just love it. Mmm home made chili. That is awesome for those cold days and nights. Actually, now that you mention it, i do miss the gym. I miss that feeling of my body being worked and balanced. That tightness and strength that you feel the remainder of the day after a good work out. You always keep me in such good check with my exercise. You know we were always neck and neck on our pounds to New Years goal...now that i have slacked on exercise you are leaving me in the dust. So enough of that...back to the gym for me.

Card- Your walk sounds like a great workout. Back to 209, to you.

Hope you all have a great weekend that you can be proud of on Monday....that is my goal for the weekend....just to be proud come Monday.
  • Friday
    Hi all:

well finally having a good day--I think I am the slowest at getting it back on track after holidays. Had to really work to get motivated but am there.

Super tired tho--will check in with u all later this weekend--still exercising too.

    everyone is doing great!

    take care

  • I had a minor binge yesterday, needed the salties. Tom had better get here soon. I am not going to weigh in this morning because I know I am retaining water. I didn't walk yesterday and I didn't work out. But that's ok. Today I am cleaning the house, lots of calorie burning there because when I am done the tree is going up!!!!

dolly - way to go on the healthy alternatives with the chilli, and gettin' to the gym.

40 - you are amazing, I have so much trouble sticking to a diet like that. The only thing I have been able to stick with for any length of time is cutting portions and making healthier choices. I wish I had the will power though, because 4 pounds is amazing. Keep up the good work and I hope your knee is better for all the parties.

Get n - you dropped that Thanksgiving weight in no time, that last little bit will be off before next Friday plus much more. You are doing so well on this challenge that this little bump will be straightened out in no time.

Snow - great getting back on track. And keeping up the exercise, a definite failing of mine. Get some rest and today will be another good day.

Well off to clean the living room before anyone else gets up and in my way. Maybe if I have most of my work done before the kids and dh get up it won't take me all day like it usually does. Wish me luck!!!!!
  • Hi there everyone,

I shopped until I dropped last night and actually got alot accomplished. Spent all morning in an arena watching my thirteen year old in a cheerleading competion and I'm now taking a little break before I hit the grocery store. I'm still right on plan . I've never been able to stick to any drastic eating change for more than 3 days, so it's quite amazing for me to be on day 5 successfully. Thanks for the pat on the back Card. The motivation of course is the anti-inflamitory effect and of course weight loss. I have seriously lost all cravings (except coffee) so it's pretty easy to stick to. My only complaint is my lack of culinary knowledge when it comes to vegitarian cooking. It's also a huge motivation for me to have this support group helping.

Good to here your on track Sno. Keeping the exercise up is half the battle. Hope you get your energy back. Everything in life is so much more of a challenge when dealing with health issues.

Way to get back to the gym Stacy.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

    Nina
  • I am still not weighing in this morning. I know I am retaining water and I don't want to look at a higher number. My stress level is just a little too high this close to christmas. I did decorate the house yesterday, which included a huge sort of my basement. The kids got into the decorations and had them spread all over. You can't even begin to imagine what my basement looks like. I have everything including all my deceased father in laws things down there, it is like a huge warehouse because dh is a pack rat and so was his father. Anyway, the kids got into everything. It took us hours to find everything. Thankfully ds finally remembered where he put the last box because I was about ready to scream by that point. But the decorations are up!!!!! Now if I could just get my shopping and wrapping done life would be really good and I could begin to enjoy the holiday season. I reallly do worry too much and I know that, but I just can't help myself. Then I stress, then I eat. Yesterday I got smart and stress snacked on cereal, hard to eat too much of that, you get too full too fast.

40 - way to keep on track. Why don't you look for recipes on the internet. I have found several to try with my picky family.
  • Sunday
    Hi all:

still back on track for two days now--dont think it is nearly enough to balance out all the crazy eating I did last week but we'll see when I weight in tomorrow.

anyway keeping up with exercise and stretching and did a whole bunch of housework on Friday so that was some more calories burned.

A dear friend took me for an 80 minute massage at the local casino and then out to lunch. It was so wonderful and relaxing! I really needed it. I did good on lunch--even tho there was a big plate of bread with herbed olive oil--I love that!- and I didnt have even one piece. Also my friend had some very tempting stuff too and was offering bites and I just said no.

So all signs are good that I am doing better. I may take me a little time to catch up on my weight but I have exactly two weeks until my birthday so I hope to be in those pants then!

Take care everyone and keep up the good work!

    Sno d
  • I weighed in this morning at 208. I am taking this with a grain of salt though and will not be depressed if it is up a little tomorrow. That is 4 pounds for the week and the best I have ever done, apparently winter agrees with me more than I thought. I didn't do my work out last night so I will be doing weights and the video tonight.

Snow - way to go on the willpower, You can do it!!!!! The massage must have been great!!!! It is so nice to have a non-food treat.

Well off to work!!! Talk to you all tomorrow.
  • I did an official weigh in this morning and I'm down 5 pounds from last week. So weighing in at 171 and determined to break into the 160 digits by the weekend. It's amazing how just a little weight loss can make me feel so much better. I deviated slightly from this rice diet (ironically I haven't eaten rice once yet) on both Sat and Sun. evening but just a few bits here and there. I'm determined to to this until Saturday, and then try for one more week before Christmas. Got most of my shopping done this weekend and I'd like to decorate the house over the next couple of evenings and then there is the wrapping and baking. Hope I can stay strong over the baking. I wish I could by-pass the baking but with three kids just can't deprive them of there favorites.

Keep it up Sno. Way to resist at lunch. I know I couldn't have resisted the olive bread. I'm jealous of your massage. I've been trying to find the time for one for the last two weeks but I don't think it'll happen until the New Year.

4 pounds is wonderful card. I keep thinking of those Xmas photos you mentioned and It's been a real motivation for me to stay on track.

    Have a great day ladies!!!
  • Good morning all! Weighed in this morning and happy to say I am down 2lbs from two weeks ago. I am so pumped, I really think I can make my New Year's Goal. I did pretty good on Saturday until the evening. I had made a cake for my Mom's b-day and it was so good. I ate one...two...three pieces, but hey thats okay right I deserve my Saturday night treats. My workout this morning wasn't really up to par but at least I went, I think it was because I went to bed late last night and was really tired this morning.

Okay here is some cooking advice and this is funny. After breakfast this morning I was going to have a chocolate protein powder in milk for a fast breakfast because I was running late. I thought hey it's cold I will put in the microwave and have hot chocolate with my boost of protein. Let just say no way and yuck! The protein powder actually cooked in the mix it was like that fake texturize meat in those cheap burritos we have all eaten, but in warm milk. I took a big drink not thinking and let's just say I didn't even have any other breakfast this morning. Just so you know do not warm chocolate protein power in the microwave with milk.

So we have our Holiday Coffee at the university today in about and hour. Debating on if I should go or not, because they just have alot of fried finger foods and desserts. I may go but do the socializing and get some hot tea. I don't even know if I could eat anything after my horrible breakfast ordeal.

40 before 40: Awesome on your lose, you put me to shame! Stay strong during the baking. Chew on some peppermint gum to keep the cravings down. I know I am really scared when I start my baking.

card: 4lbs in one week is fabulous! You should be so proud of yourself! Remember this is a lifestyle change so slow and easy is good.

Sno: 80 minutes massage, I am JEALOUS, my body could really use one right now.

Get n healthy: Down 3 pounds and only 10 more to go. You can so make your New Year's Goal especially since your back at the gym and at it 100%!
  • monday4weeks to go!
    Hi all:

some great stories you all are doing great. Well I have three good days under my belt but am still 4 lbs up from pre-thanksgiving weight. Thats okay--I can just imagine what my weight was--I dont even want to know. Still hanging in with exercise and am having some calorie counting days coming up.

Card--great job--you have really got your motivation going--I know you will hit your goal!

Nina--great job with your not-so-rice diet! Whatever works. Glad it helps with the knee!

Dolly--yuck--pro powder is bad enough without it being turned into a microwave monster! Wow--you had three pieces of cake and still lost! I am jealous!

Stacy--dont stress- it is so good that you are below your pre-thanksgiving weight--that is something to be proud of! Yes--I am not at my ticker weight either but I think I will be by next week so I am not going to change it yet.

Have a great week ladies! four weeks until the end--after that--how about a 12 weeks until Spring challenge? (march 25 is the spring equinox which brings us to exactly 12 weeks from New Years! Or it could be 18 weeks until May challenge)

that way we can have something to look forward to and get more weight off before summer.. .

    Okay--lets do it!
  • Okay went to Holiday Coffee this morning and did really really good. Had one bite of a lemon square, small bite of mushroom quiche (gross) and some fruit punch. And I picked up two tangerines for later today and tomorrow.
  • At 209 this morning, that's ok. I didn't walk or workout yesterday. Too darn cold. I will be back on track today because I know I won't have time tomorrow, the dreaded staff and board meeting. I did okay with my eating yesterday, I had a snack in the evening, I will not do that again tonight.

40 - congratulations, 5 pounds, that is amazing. I sympathize with the baking. I have decided not to do it this year. I usually get platefuls from other people, so they will have to make do with that.

dolly - way to go on just nibbling. It takes alot of will power just to have a bite or two. As far as the cake goes, you deserve whatever you need to not feel deprived. And thanks for the cooking advice, that sounds like something I would have tried, glad you found out for me before I did it. lol.

Snow - keep sticking with the exercise. The one week I did exercise I lost the most weight. I am hoping that I can get back on track with it. My biggest problem is finding the space. I have to keep kicking my son out of his room in order to exercise and he is getting a little ticked at me. But I will start again because that 4 pound weight loss was just to good to not continue. Once it warms up a little again I will start walking both ways, to and from work, again. It is supposed to be a little warmer by Friday.

Well off to get ready for work, I hope you all have a great day.
  • Well the day is almost half gone at work. I forgot my yogurt for my afternoon snack so just the pear. I don't know why but when I don't follow my plan it throws me for a loop sometimes. A glass of milk at dinner will give me my second serving of dairy for the day.

Last night I was just not in the mood to cook dinner so we had leftovers and today I am feeling the same way. I just don't want to cook...I think this cold weather has made me lazy and just want to lay on the couch. Nope I am going to cook tonight because no healthy leftovers in the fridge and if I don't I know DH will order pizza or something unhealthy. I have some defrosted chicken tenders so I am thinking about just sauteeing them and having some steamed veggies and rice. That just seems too boring though, but again not in the mood to cook. I just need to make it a healthy dinner!

Card - I'm with you on the evening snack, once I start I don't stop especially if it is chocolate. I brought the cake i made on Saturday to work to get it out of my house and now it is gone so that is good. No temptations at home tonight.
  • Tuesday
    Hi all:

feeling really pleased with my eating this week--the willpower is back in control and I am doing a nice mix of eating lightly and what I want so it feels good.

also working on getting enough veggies again--they say to get 10 to really lose weight. I am aiming for it but not there yet--had 8 yesterday. I put out a big plate of celery and carrots for me to eat and prepared a separate one for my hubby--enough that it is 4 servings of veggies--that is easy to eat and keeps me from getting hungry.

I didnt exercise for the first time in almost a month yesterday because my foot was hurting and I felt I need to rest it.

Getting ready for the holidays--just a few gifts left!

Dolly--great job on the holiday coffee--it makes me feel so powerful when I can resist stuff like that!

Card: finding ways to exercise in bad weather is key--I found some walking videos you can do walking in place at the library--I plan to try those when the weather gets bad. It is great to be able to walk to work--that really helps.

    Have a great day everyone!
