I'm trying to remember why we wanted dogs and when did they become soley my responsibility?
I don't even get to ask that; I'm the one who insisted I had to have another dog. Oh well. Jet is a sweetheart part of the time; it's a good thing, because if she wasn't I don't think I could put up with this. I'm hoping that strictly keeping her on one kind of leash or another and never giving her a chance to run back up to the road will somehow magically teach her she can't do it anymore, but frankly I don't believe it myself. How do you teach a dog that the thing she finds the most fun is totally off limits? Wait till she reaches the age of reason and discuss it with her?

Jazz Night tonight. One last Jesus Christ Superstar performance. Yeehaw! All the rels and local friends are coming. I think I have to save 11 seats.

Apparently we skipped actual spring and have gone directly to summer. Today is hot and sunny. Probably next week will be winter.

We are heading to Boston again next week for a few days, so Tufts and Emerson can treat DD to a good time and we can grill them on financial aid. She just won another scholarship yesterday -- $3K ! Yippee!

Everybody have a good day. Ta

  • Quote: I am soooo dead: DH told me Not to do somethin to the power washer ... and I did it anyway:
Story of my life, Schatz! Hope the DH values your company enough not to do you in just yet.
  • Sugar, that's the prettiest, most festive ZERO I've ever seen. Consider that your first Easter display.

Schatzi, I'm alarmed! What did you do to the power washer? Didja kill it? Didja blow the shingles off the roof? Smash DH's favorite garden gnome? Inquiring minds WTK.

Here's what I do instead of accomplishing anything: went to put the groceries away in the pantry this afternoon and spent an hour vacuuming up mouse turds and repapering the shelves.

more yammering about my kid, just a warning

Yep, Bagz, that's an independent scholarship she can use anywhere. The total is mounting slowly.

Supposedly DD and bf were going to spend some time recording a song this afternoon, but they were here for a 1/2 hour and had to go to something else, and they're not back yet. I peeked at the sheet music -- they were planning to record At Last. Hopefully they will get back to it later. Usually she accompanies herself on guitar on that song, but apparently he's going to play piano. Cool

Oh man, Jazz Night was sooooooo good. During the Jazz Band portion of the evening, while playing "Funkathustra", which is very cool anyway, the Rhythm Section (DD, bf, "Jesus" (bass player), and the other guitarist) broke out this wild improv they had worked up. First they switched instruments -- DD took "Jesus"'s bass and he went on the drums, and they rocked out for about 5 minutes. Crazy, man.

After the show choir performance was over, the director (who is apparently moving away after this year) did this whole tribute to the graduating seniors and people who had helped with show choir. The first thing he did was to call DD forward because she had been left out of the cast list in the program. She took a bow. And then mugged at the audience a few times. Then he introduced each senior and said a little about them. It was very nice of him. He saved DD's bf for last, because quite frankly the guy has saved the director's bacon on many an occasion and is really an awesome musician. Bf got a standing ovation from the crowd. He was totally embarrassed of course, but he was a good sport about it. I think that's a first in my experience--a student getting an individual standing ovation. My DD can really pick'em.

  • congrats on the three KAY for ANYWHERE---that is soooooo cool--is it renewable??? and of course ,i never get tired of the band and dd's musical triumphs----------i just LOVE Music so much---i actually think i was happier when the girls were in the musicals than at any other time in my life====i was on a perma body stone [haaaaaaaaaaa]---seriously,it was like the highest you can get without contraband-------------kiwi----i feel your joy!!!----AND SUGAR,GET THE **** BACK HERE AND TALK---AND POOR SHAATZIIIIII-----DHI is a sweetie---he will forgive you---just tell him the velcro shoe story again---that will get him in a good mood~~!! xoxo happy easter weekend--i am hosting an EGG decorating party in the morning for the nieces and nephews and a few friends---hope to get some nice pics------------
  • Oo, you're such a nice aunt! Easter egg dying sounds like a lovely party. I don't think I'm doing anything at'all. 'Cept I bought some easter candy. Where should I hide it? In the freezer?

    Look, it's the Easter Turkeys!

  • Congrats on the big bucks for college, Kiwi!!!! It just gets better and better, huh?

In a couple years I'll have my little Kayden coloring eggs, Bagzie. Won't that be fun?

I'm off in a bit to go get my eyes lazer'ed for glaucoma. They're doing both eyes so I'll have very blurry vision for a couple hours after. My sis (the one who has the patch over one eye b/c of Graves disease) is taking me and picking me up. Talk about the blind leading the blind!! I'm only just a little bit nervous. If this works then I shouldn't have to use eye drops for about 5 years -- of course, they don't guarantee it will work. They're basically lazering little pin holes in my eyes so that it relieves eye pressure. Ick. I guess I should be more than just a little nervous. See you cowsies on monday and have a super Easter weekend (it's supposed to rain all weekend here, bleeh).
  • Good luck with the eyes, Wab! I'm sure it will go swimmingly.

Have a lovely Easter, everybody! May the Easter bring you lots of

  • What do you feed vegetarians who expect an Easter spread? DS's gf is in town. I've been selected to make Easter. Yay. Tomorrow I school from 8 to 12 and work 4:30 to 11. Will be tired. Don't care about Easter.

Not the same thing but DS signed papers yesterday giving him over $20,000 (unspecified) for college. This is one of three that he's getting and his public school should cost less so he should be comfy for a while.

DS has his cap and gown. He handed it to me and said, "Here's the stuff I'm supposed to wear for graduation." Unimpressed, he is.

Lordy. I'd say Let them eat Easter Grass, but seriously, you've got enough going on without having to think up exotic things to cook. What I'm thinking is this is why you work at the grocery! How about a selection of salads from the deli, some excellent breads from the bakery, with butter of course and maybe some brie (does she eat cheese?), a raw veggie platter and some sliced ham (you can buy a small precooked one and assign DS to slice it; that way they can have something to complain about, kids need that). All you'd have to do is make a dip for the veggies and set the table!

Congrats on actually getting Ds's hands on that nice chunk of change (well, nice chunk of paper saying he owns it). I have little anxiety attacks every now and then thinking about how all this financial stuff is going to have to be attended to every year, and how totally scatter-brained DD is about some things.....

Yes, unimpressed they all are. DD got her box of graduation announcements the other day at school and apparently just left them on a windowsill somewhere. We got a call from a teacher telling us she had taken them to the office. Oy The school doesn't trust them with the caps and gowns I guess, because that wasn't in the package, although it was on the invoice.

Darling D made it into the Bangor Daily News: Clickety!. The bf is quoted, at the very end of the story.

It's pouring rain today. I really messed up yesterday: it was beautiful out and I didn't take the dog for a walk. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Somebody me.

  • Im not gonna kick you because
    1.I love you
    2.You solved Easter foods
3.You congratulated ME for getting $ for DS. He thinks he did it all AND when he signed the papers, THEY didn't invite me to be present. I didn't need to be there but it is nice to have someone notice that ... this would never happen without mom looking for these things and forcing him to do what it takes.
    4.Etc.
    5. annnddd . nice article (wrote "particle" first) on the musicians. Should would like to see a video.
  • Quote: .. this would never happen without mom looking for these things and forcing him to do what it takes.
Isn't that the truth!! We don't nearly enough credit, that fer sure.

Speaking of a video, I went to the store and bought videotapes!! Also St. Johns Wort in a very large bottle. It was either that or large quantities of liquor. I was so p-o'ed at everyone in my house, I took the dog in the car and mumbled and cursed all the way into town, vowed (out loud to no one in the car) I wouldn't go to the in-laws for dinner tomorrow and threatened all kinds of things. I'm only p-o'ed at DD for not doing much to help out around here, so that's minor. I'm really p-o'ed at DH because after "checking up on me" (what the **** is that crap?) re: boarding the dog next week, he informed me that I would have to find someone to take care of her when DD and I go to NYC next month. Because he wouldn't get anything done if he had to "babysit" her. Like he does anything AT ALL anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really don't think I should go to the in-laws tomorrow, because I will not be able to be civil to him in front of his family. What an *******.

  • would you like us to nod is silent agreement and solidarity-----------or would you like us to join in and grouse with you----------we are capable of all this and more!!!===========regarding the dd--------------i think we all know that THEY of the younger set have NO idea how to "help out"---they need specific instructions so they can then tell you WHY they are unable to assist-----------they usually have things that are much more IMPORTANT to do!!!------------these are personal observations of course----regarding dh's-----having had a few i feel yer pain!!!!!HAPPY EASTER DINNER ANYWAY------------UNFORTUNATELY I AM HOSTING THE EXTRAVAGANZA AND I HAVE ALREADY SPENT MANY HOURS PREPARING SO I CAN SPEND MANY MORE HOURS TOMORROW--------------BIG FAMILY DINNERS SUCK!!!!!!!!
