Hi Linda...Sorry I didn't check in yesterday, just under a lot of stress and in a rotten mood. I find it's better that I close myself up in my room, doing some sewing and listen to my music. It's a great stress reliever as long as I don't make any mistakes on my quilt.:D Got the bottom row of the quilt finsihed this afternoon. Tomorrow I will layout and start sewing the kids down on the sides. Lastnight I finished a counted cross stitch I have been working on for 2 years. The picture is of a barn and house with lots of quilts hanging about. Started another cross stitch lastnight, but had to quit. It's 18 count and making me:dizzy: , so after church today I stopped at Wal-Mart and bought 14 ct cloth.
The fairy fat mother paid me a visit, I'm down 1.2 lbs.WHOOHOO!!!! Have a good one and I promise I will be back tomorrow. Cheryl |
Good to see you CHERYL. Sorry about your bad mood but glad you put it to such good use. Also very glad the Fairy-Fat-Mother paid you a nice visit. I know what you mean, 14-count is about the finest fabric I can manage these days. Good luck with getting some more kids sewn down.
See you all soon, gang . . . hope you all come out of hiding soon. :carrot: |
Hi gals,
I'm back from rafting and had a really great time. I had more fun rock climbing than the rafting, but thats cuz the river was low and slow. I need to update myself on what I missed so I'll be back later. Have a great day. |
Hello Ladies...Got up early and gave the house a quick once over before it got hot. I was still sweating buckets, it is so humid here. Layed out another row of kids and got the body parts sewed down. Tomorrow if I get home early enough, I want to get the clothes sewed down and then I only have one row left.
Brandy...Welcome back and gald you had fun rock climbing/rafting. Linda...It seems my eyes get worse every year. Too much close up work and age I guess. I have to wear my old glasses to work on the computer and my new ones for everything else.:dizzy: Have to be up early and to town by 9 am for a couple of meetings with the FD. In the afternoon, I have a meeting with the gals that are on the quilt retreat committee. We plan a weekend retreat for September every year. It's been loads of fun and we have a nice group of 12 ladies that look forward to every year. Only cost $60, and that includes room/food, and it's a do your own thing. See you gals tomorrow. Cheryl:hug: |
Good Morning all you crafty ones . . . :s: The sun is starting to peek through this morning although it is still oppressively hot and humid. Maybe the worst is over for a little bit. Guess I'll pack the 'Ark Building Plans' away again. ;)
MEL . . . Congratulations on your great loss, girl. Keep it up; but watch out for that cheating, it might get you if you do it too often. :o BRANDY . . . Welcome back. Glad you had a good time. Lucky you had the rockclimbing since the rafting wasn't quite as good as you hoped. :) CHERYL . . . I know exactly what you mean. I find 'glasses-off' works best for me on the computer and for cross-stitch, I have one of those magnifying lights (like the ones you see on CSI, except mine is black). Your quilting retreat sounds fantastic, wish I could join you. :) Well, chickies . . . have a great day moving and shaking and staying as cool as possible. See you all lighter. :carrot: |
15 yards of 100% polyester-what can I make with it?
Hello fellow crafters-this is a strange question.
I have about 15 yards total, 4-5 different colors of at least 2 yards each of 100% polyester-the slinky, silky type. I'm at a loss of what to do with it. I bought it-yes, it's my fault-many years ago when a fabric store was having a BIG sale. Thinking that I could make some cool little skirts out of them, until I made something to wear and it was so incredibly uncomfortable because it doesn't breathe and the sweat stains so are noticable. YUCK! Any ideas how to use it? I've been doing some charity sewing for the local children's hospital. I make cloth dolls and some lap type quilts. I was thinking some sort of quilt, but it's so slinky that it's difficult to cut and sew properly. Thanks, Sarah |
Hi SARAH . . . nice to see you here with our group . . . I've made some mistakes like that, too . . . the things we do in a weak moment.:dizzy:
Here's a little suggestion . . . sew it to some flannelette or some cotton sheeting in large pieces using a wide and long zigzag stitch in relatively straight grid rows a few inches apart (sort of like you were quilting it together) and then cut it out to make it into something. The zig zagging should make it behave better. Guess you could also use some kind of press-on interfacing to stabilize it, but I think that would be more costly. Good Luck  Let us know what you decide to do. |

That's a great idea, SARAH. I bet a local orphanage or play school would love you to bits for something like that. You know, I bet a play school would even be glad to get it as fabric for the kids to make into stuff.
I still have a lovely piece of fabric that was not cheap that I drag out every once in a long while so I can watch it form a puddle on the table and then I put it away again. It's sort of a silky chiffon-like synthetic in a gorgeous soft coral print. I still wish I could get it to sit still long enough to become something. I just can't bear to part with it. :o |
Melissa...WHOOHOO!!!:carrot: :carrot: So happy to hear the fairy fat mother paid you a visit. Doesn't it feel nice to be sprinkled with her fat reducing dust? Wish it was that easy, we would all be millionairs.:wizard:
Linda...I wish you could join us as well. We stay at a beautiful place next to the Sheyenne River. Had a great meeting with the gals and all of our meals will be low fat, with lots of fresh veggies and fruit to eat. In the past it has been a night of pizza, the next was BBQ Beef, heavy soups and lots of junk food. This year we are having grilled lean hamburgers with fresh veggies and fruit. Low fat muffins and fresh fruit for breakfast. Low fat pasta salad with whole wheat crackers and cheese for lunch. Potatoe soup with a roll for dinner and our last dinner will be grilled chicken, toss salad and a light rhubarb cheesecake. Sounds yummy, huh!!! Sarah...:welcome: to the group. Glad to have you join us. Linda gave you some good ideas. I think making paly clothes and donating to a daycare/school would be great. If you use it to make a quilt, a flannel backing is good. To help it from slipping, you can get a can of baste it. It keeps the fabric from shifting. You can also use a walking foot to help keep it from shifting. If you want to donate it, homeless shelter's are always in need of quilts. Very busy day for me, meetings with the FD all morning and then my meeting this afternoon. Didn't get any work done on the quilt today nor will I get any done on it tomorrow. More meetings tomorrow. Thursday I plan on landing and do nothing but sew and try to stay cool. We are to be in the 90's, so the air will be on. See you tomorrow. Cheryl |
Just to let you know I'm in a rotten mood today. I still have my 3.6 extra pounds of WWW and I refuse to move my ticker backwards because I do not deserve this. Or at least I didn't as of first thing this morning, but now I'm very busy eating everything in sight so hope I lose this ravenous feeling before I turn this into a self-fulfilling prophecy. See you later.

Linda...Sorry to hear you are in a rotten mood, but we all seem to have those days. Sending you a  and hoping you feel better tomorrow. Hope the FFM comes and takes those pounds away for you.
Today was WW, and I was down 2 lbs on their scales. Yippie is all I can say. Went out to lunch with my friend and I had a seafood platter. It was very good at the time, but an hour later I was feeling terrible. I just can't have fried food anymore. Cheryl |
Hi ladies,
I'm struggling to get back into weight loss mode after vacation. Yesterday was the best day food wise, so I'm feeling a little better about it all. Cheryl-Congrats on the loss. Sorry your meal made you sick. That's one of the drawbacks of eating healthy, when you do indulge it usually ends badly. meowee-Cheer up!!!! I know how frustrating the scale moving in the opposite direction is considering that's all that has been going on for me lately. Keep working at it and we all know it will eventually start heading in the proper direction. We all have bad days, and we just have to pick ourselves up and prevent a bad week. You're in my thoughts. |
Brandy...It's always tough after being on vacation to get back in the routine of doing things and eating right. I leave the end of July on vacation, but I have told my family out west that I'm following WW. I'm packing an ice chest with food I can eat, so we are going to picnic on the way out and only eat our evening meal out. I'd like to come back after being gone 14 days with a loss and not a gain.:D
Melissa...I hear you about the grazing. I still get that way and TOM hasn't visited in a long time. It's always nice to know that it only last a day or so. Linda...Hope you are in a better mood today, but if your not, I understand. It can be so depressing when the scales move up and not down. Here's a few hugs my friend.  Got up early and went for a walk before it got hot.:carrot: Got home and decided to vaccum, sweep and mop floors before I had to go to town with the FD for an appointment. Came home and got a jump on the wash so the FD's can start their wash tomorrow and I can sew since I don't have to go anywhere. It is so hot and humid here. Got the air on and the weather alert just went off for sever thunderstorms. Looks like it will be a bumpy night. Just got done picking out a couple of outfits that I will order tomorrow and a new pair of shoes. Still feeling a little quizzy from the dinner I had lastnight. I have ate real light today. See you tomorrow. Cheryl |
Fairy Fat Mother came for a visit!!!! I dropped 2 of the pounds I had gained while away!!!!! HAPPY FRIDAY! :carrot:
