  • Are there any quilters out there that would like to start a group? After all.. it's hard to quilt and eat!

    Beth,

I would love to join you, and yes I have the quilting bug very bad. Just finished my 35th quilt and started another one yesterday.

    Cheryl
  • 35 quilts! wow! what pattern are you working on now? to you work by hand or use a machine? I just got a babylock quilters choice for my birthday and i love it. Lots to learn. I'm trying to make quilted jackets for the girls in the family for Christmas this year.
  • I'm a quilter, too. I seem to go in spurts with different crafts and I've been more into knitting and crocheting lately. (Hard to eat while doing those too.)

I guess I've done about 15 to 20 quilts. Only 6 full-size ones. I love doing baby and throw size. I piece by machine (have never done applique) and some of them I've quilted by hand but have to admit I've done most of the more recent ones by machine. My sewing machine is 15/16 year-old Pfaff. I love it.

I think I've said this before, Cheryl . . . I'm really not following you, it just seems that way.

    Have a productive weekend, ladies.
  • Hi Beth and Linda,

The pattern I'm working on now is my own design. It has a 12" center square with an applique house and flowers. The boarder around the house is a white and burgandy sawtooth block. Then 4 burgandy triangles are sewed in to form a square. A boarder of white/burgandy sawtooth blocks, then 4 white triangle are sewed in to form a square. In each white triangle I will be applique a red heart, flower and a green vine with leaves. Another boarder of White/burgandy sawtooth blocks. 4 1/2" burgandy boarder, followed by another boarder of white/burgandy sawtooth block. 8 1/2" boarder of white and then a final white/burgandy sawtooth boarder. In the white boarder, I will be doing appliques of boy's and girl's. Finish size will be Queen size.

This quilt I'm donating to PATH, which is the foster parent origanization we belong to. They will raffle it off at our conference in Oct.

My last five quilts I made last year were all queen size except for the one I made my son and it's a King. I have one quilt at the machine quilters for her to do her magic on and waiting to go.

My very first quilt was a Double Wedding Ring and the only one I did hand quilting on. Now I just send them out to a lady that does beautiful machine quilting.

I love to quilt and have my sewing room set up with my stero/CD of music, a glider rocker (for my dog Ozzy's comfort). I have my Great Grandmother antique treddle sewing machine and also an antique steamer trunk that I keep my embroidery hoops and stablizers in. Also have a computer desk with a very old computer that I use to make and print out my lables for my quilts. I have a 6 shelf stand full of my fabric stash, and a walk in closet full of fabric as well. You know quilters, never enough fabric.

I love my sewing machine!! I have a Brother 8500 Embroidery/Sewing machine. My husband bought it for me when we moved from the west coast to North Dakota. This Wednesday, I made be buying the new Innovis machine by Brother. My sewing machine shop is having a huge moving sale and they are selling everything at discount prices, so I'm hoping to buy a new sewing machine if it's down to about $6000.00.

Hope you both had a good day. I was busy sewing and drinking my water and did good food wise. Yesterday was another story, but I was back on track today.

  • I'm more of a garment sewer than a quilter, but I do happen to have three quilts under construction right now. Two are rather smallish, one is completely pieced and waiting to be tied, and the other is almost completely quilted. I've also finished most of the blocks for a log cabin quilt for my bed. I've been wanting a log cabin quilt for, oh, about thirty years now, so the time has finally come.
  • yea! more quilters! Now.. we need a name..whats quilting / sewing and also weight loss related sounding??

    Let's introduce ourselves a bit.

I love all kinds of crafts, too. I was an art teacher (middle school) for a while and now i do graphic design and watercolors. I'm also run a rock and gem shop with my husband and am working on getting my gg (graduate gemologist) I'd share my painting site, but I don't think we are allowed to put url on here.

I've been trying to lose weight forever Right now I am doing weight watchers *again* and working out by walking and weight training. I worked with a physical trainer last year for a while and learned so much. Now it's time to put it all together and see if I can finally get some where. I don't want to be skinny..I'm 5' 3 and would be happy with 150-140! There is a long history of diabeties and heart disease in my family...so I have a great motivation. (Well, there's also fitting in my jeans better lol)

I live in Charlotte, with my husband and 3 cats and two dog, no non-furry kids. Right now my husband is away on a contract and I only get to see him on the weekends.

I'm exhausted right now because I just got back from going to get him a couple of hours from here. His car literally caught on fire on the interstate and the fire trucks had to come and put it out! Luckily it was a rental car. I'm so stressed out over all the "what ifs" I'm so glad he is okay! I just can't even imagine... *shudder* So please for give me if this isn't as coherent as it should be
  • How about "Getting it Together" or something like that?
  • Hi Ladies,

Ejm...So glad that your husband is all right. That is really scary!!!

A little about myself. I use to do all sort of crafts, but the last 8 years it's been quilting. I also do counted cross once in a blue moon. For the last 6 years, my husband and I have been foster parents. We have had 14 children so far. Right now we have a 14 year old girl. I will be married 34 years in July, I have two married children, 7 grandchildren and number 8 grandchild will be here in Oct. I also have a couple furry children, my dog Ozzy and my cat Princess.
I have travel all over, my husband was in the military for 20 years, once he retired we moved back to Oregon and lived in Portland for 8 years. I was a teacher in a Daycare Center till we sold our home and moved to our farmstead in North Dakota. Miss my family very much, but love the peace and quite of North Dakota. Took my first quilting class Nov 98 and I have had the bug ever since.

Decided not to buy the new sewing machine. My husband and I have worked really hard to get out of debt and we finally suceeded in reaching that goal in January. Only owe on our house, and hope to have it paid off by the time my husband retires for the second time in about 5 years.

Have to report I had a no loss/no gain this week. I'm find with that, since I had a few cheats. It's back on program and getting serious about it. I'm following WW points, and know I will make it this time. I have lots of support here and at my WW meetings.

    Cheryl
  • Good Morning from Atlantic Canada where it is dull looking today. But I'm feeling a little dull, too so I guess I match the weather.

This is my official ww and I'm down one pound. On Sunday, it looked like it would be two, but one of those decided it was going to stick around for a bit longer so I had to settle for one. Oh well.

My 'quilting mania' started in the late 70's. I don't like fuzzy blankets and all the quilts my grandmother had made were beginning to show a lot of wear. (my Mother was not a quilter). I decided I'd have to learn to quilt if I was going to avoid the fuzzy blanket situation. . . and the rest (as they say) is history.

Have a great day. Keep on doing the good stuff and the rewards will follow.
  • I was down a half a pound this week! I was really surprised considering what I ate over the weekend. Maybe stress burns calories Had Wendy's for lunch today, so it will be fruit and jello for dinner!

Cheryl - is your farmstead a working farm? what do you grow? I understand about getting out of debt. We are growing a small business..it's doing well, but seems like for every penny in, 1.5 go out. I'm doing ww too, but online. I'm not good with meetings.

Meowie - congrats on your loss! Don't you hate when the scale teases you!

I just heard from a print publisher that is interested in doing prints of my paintings. They do prints for things like restaurants, hotel rooms, offices, that kind of thing. It's still early stages, but it would be great if it works out. Oh hey..my avatar is one of my paintings
  • Beth.... on your weight loss!! I hope to show a loss as well next week. Going to try real hard and stay out of fast food places and buffet's.

We have a ten acre farmstead and raise Classic Chevys. My husband also sell chevy parts on ebay. Right now, our 57 convertible is in the restoration shop, so it takes lots of money to restore it. Hope to have it finished by the end of summer. So since we are out of debt except for our house payment, I'm pretty tight with the money. I would of loved to buy a new sewing machine today, but there are other thing like a microwave/fan I need more than a sewing machine, and of course I'm always looking for fabric to add to my stash.

Got the center square to my quilt applique and the first row of the sawtooth blocks sewed on today. It looks pretty sharp!

    Till later,

    ~Cheryl
  • Oh wow, I bet those chevys are cute when they're babies. I just couldn't resist. Somedays I just feel nutty.

    Have a great day everybody . . .
  • Stayed the same this week. But it's TOM and we had chinese yesterday. I just had a dish with chicken and veggies, but you know it has more sodium home food! Hopefully next week will be a good one

Fabric is definitely the priority I can't imagine having to take care of 10 acres. It's all I can do to keep our 1/4 acre mowed and not overtaken by crabgrass. Two little flower beds..by August the weeds usually win :P

Hope everyone has a good weigh in this week! and take some time for quilting
  • Hi! I do mainly crazy quilting and foundation piecing, but I am finding it really hard to fit in crafting and exercising! So the quilting is on the backburner. Hopefully you gals will galvanise me into action!

There's already a getting it together group. What about "Piece by Piece?"
