I've been on here a long time and have yet to join a group. I actually qualify for this one!! Being in my 20's was a big reason I actually started losing weight. I read somewhere that our metabolism begin to decrease every year beginning at age 25. At least I'll have only spent a few years of my 20's fat. I know it's going to be a lot easier for us NOW than in 10 or even 20 years. I've known quite a few people who are my mom's age that say they have been heavy their whole lives. BTW, have any of you seen old highschool classmates who were thin in highschool and NOW they are fat? I've seen my fair share. It's sweet revenge, they are growing and I'm shrinking. I'm 100 pounds less than I was in high school!! I know it isn't nice to think that anyone deserves to have a weight problem, but now they know what it feels like!!!
I'm 24 and over the fat thing, too. I'm starting (again!) on Weight Watchers. I lost 35 pounds about 2 years ago and have basically maintained, but I've got about 50 more to go. I'd like to average a 2 pound weight loss until I leave in August, which will put me pretty close to my goal. What plans are everyone else using? Low-carb? Weight Watchers?
I'm going on a semester abroad in August and the last thing I want is for all my pictures to be of a fat girl in Africa. Plus I want to be healthy enough to participate in everything, including the hiking, beach activities etc.
Anyway, I think the support here is great! I weigh in on Thursdays, I'd weigh in another day but I live in a small town and that's the only meeting day. Don't know how that'd work for the weigh-in thing with this group? Either way, its nice to have people my age to bounce ideas off of...
Harpo-I have heard the same thing about it getting harder to lose weight after 25. My mom is 38 and is trying to lose weight with me, and it's just not going well! So I thought that I would get it taken care of now, because I am only 22--I am supposed to be super hot right now, LOL!
Can I jump in on this one too??? I'm 23 and I just got tired of looking the way I do and not having clothes that fit. So I've decided to drop all this weight. I'm just working out and portion control. I don't really wanna go on a diet, because when I deprive myself of something I end up eating way more and gaining all the weight back.
About the weigh in issue, I don't have internet access onthe weekends (yet!) so....I'll just report my weight on Friday and you can keep track.
