I finished water challenge day 15 yesterday, but I was too tired to post, so I just went to bed. TOM is thankfully almost over, so hopefully the waterbloat will go away and I can find out what my efforts in the past weeks has done to my waist. I don't know if I mentioned this before, but I had the greatest thing happen last weekend.

I had to go home (10 hour drive) to pick up my car from the mechanic (I had a wreck over xmas and the car was in the shop). While I was there, my boyfriend and I stopped to see my grandmother, who is 94 and blind as a bat when it comes to little details. Because of the way her vision is, however, she pays attention to shapes (she noticed my nephew's girlfriend's pregnancy at four weeks - before they told anyone). and she noticed I was losing weight!! :carrot:

Tonight is the last hockey game of the regular season and I'm afraid I have really messed up my knees - they hurt incredibly badly. I'm not sure if it's just the exercise combined with carrying this extra weight or what, but I can barely go up and down stairs. I WILL get through the game tonight, though - and then I will dial it back to low impact exercise only until the playoffs. Our hockey season is super short, but it has gotten me into the habit of exercising every evening and now I actually look forward to it as a form of stress relief. I can't wait until I feel a little less like a cow and I have the self esteem to go to the pool during lap swim hours. I love to swim - I just hate being in a bathing suit surrounded by beautiful skinny sorority girls on the undergrad campus. ahhwell...soon I will have the guts to do it - soon I tell you! Hockey season might be over just in time for me to start a new 21 day exercise challenge - we shall see, though.

Keep on Truckin!

As day 3 went away, I am ready to ponder about new things.
As I continue to notice things around me.
After reading posts from Red, fish and others on my thoughs about towels, I pictured myself back in that change room. The day before I walked in there and thought about towels, noticing something else. Most ladies were standing up in front of their open lackers. All at different stages of taking off or putting on clothing. Then remembered how i dress. Of course until then I was convinced that I always get dressed standing up. Boy was I sad to realize that it is not true. Pants, socks, shoes, and even underware I tend to put on while sitting down. So from yesterday I began this new challenge to self: dress up standing up. It is doable and I've done for a day and a half now. Of course sometime I can forget, but for the most part it is interesting "can I stand on one foot and do it?". So far I noticed that taking off socks is the hardest. Often after putting on in one swift move, i have to readjust them by kneeling down, but that just as fine.
(hmm all of sudden as I am writing you I remmebered how my ex used to pun on pants, alwasys standing up and almost falling and I was thinking back than how funny he seemed. But trueth be told he did it the normal way - rather than sitting down for everything.)
Red, I know you noticed my new phrase. Perhaps I should have put it in quote, but this one got me thinking not about a guy but about thy fat, how equating sloppiness in life to sloppiness in health can be true. That's why I posted that. No it is not all about a man, but having one would not hurt. Yet I want the right one. My ex was that kind of a guy, in many ways but definitely not all. Hence he is an ex.

Hello everyone!
Day 3 No BEER:hat: :hat: :hat:
Day 8 exercise, but I still am barely making the effort. Although my simple mind says ANY exercise will burn calories, right? Its just that I could chose to walk for an hour or jog for 20 min to get the same results, calorie-wise anyway. Aerobic exercise comes with the extra benifits of cardio-vascular health and maybe some other stronger, more buff muscles as well.
ANyway, my "a little is better than nothing" attitude will probably never get me the results I crave. And while I've been good about the beer, I've been eating too many *food porn* and yesterday I bought some *food porn* and If I had 2 beers instead of the naughty foods, I'd probably be better off. So I need to lay down a few more "rules", to keep myself in line. BABY DIFFFICult ATTEMPT TO TYPE BYE

Find the sticky at the top about "signature poll" and read it. I think right now the signatures are appearing once a page or once a thread, something strange like that.

More later. :comp:

ok i am not caught up yet but wanted to start with this... that makes since... i noticed there were some very large siggies here, we have limits at OLU so i totaly understand... i'm gunna go vote once i get caught up in this thread :D

all right! action!

Good morning. Up at 4 here to get to work on that story. After getting off to the gym, a 5K jog, then facing the headon wind for the long walk home again, I was too tired to write last night.
I'm better in the morning anyhow.

I did, however, do the challenge journaling, quite enjoyed it, especially the part about planning for the next day's tough parts. So, I can definitely call Day 2 a wrap.

Ok, quick catchup here, then I gotta get this butt in gear! :dancer:

Apple -- :bravo: A hand on another day notched! :spin: As for the exercise and the a little-is-better-than-none thinking, sure, it IS better than none, but more is better than a little and more likely to see results and results is what you're after, right? As I know on the books and certain studies they say an hour is the same as 20 in the walk/jog debate, but my body says it ain't! And like you said, the cardio benefits are enormous. When I've been training my heart, I have tons more energy and feel like doing so much more. I start chomping at the bit, so to speak and actually want to up the pace during my run. Before, I used to think it was tough to just get on the treadmill and do something at 6 kph, now I rev up to 9 or 10 kph with some real hard rock on my iPod nano (great little thing!) and I knock out practically another K with that, before taking a breather at 7 kph. Now, the 6 kph seems like a joke. Of course, I still am not cutting the food greatly, but I can quickly get the added fat off. The thing I gotta do is keep it up long enough (and with enough non-beer days) to get more and more of the stored fat gone! You can do it! Just keep trying! One day you'll get so sick of playing games with yourself, that maybe something'll click in.

CBETA -- Good going on your challenges! I think the standing up/sitting down thing is mostly just a preference. I see lots of tiny Japanese sitting down to change and it's tradition here to sit down on a tiny stool and bathe and then get into the tub, so it comes naturally to them. But, yes, balance is a problem when you're heavy I suppose or the weight is a strain when you're standing on one leg. I notice too that when I gain weight I just naturally become more energy-conservative, finding ways subconsciously even to not expend energy. When I am lighter I bound around! Awareness is key! You're doing great, CB!

chai -- Cool with the grandma! Be sure to stay away from here, however, when you've gained! That's like me with the racehorse trainers. They look at you and pick you apart 'cause they've got eyes for weight. And being Japanese, they say it! I am no longer socially acceptable, having spent too much time around racehorse trainers and bodybuilders, who seem to make their greetings somehow weight related. They think nothing of it and neither do I but I know it doesn't go over well in the general public!

carla -- The monkey thing is from the Japanese quote, about monkeys falling from trees. I suppose the sloths just never fall, partly because they're not running around, just hanging out. You get back on your challenges, you hear! And keep up the water one, only a tad more!

marble -- Ignore the scale!! So what?!?! You got those compliments. They don't mean nothing! Go back and reread what you wrote about living off 'em for a month! Excellent going on the sweaty workout. I see so many people barely moving on the cardio machines at the gym and I think, just what the heck do they think they're going to get out of doing that?!?! But, pushing yourself to you feel sick may mean you went a bit too hard. I really, really recommend people get a heartrate monitor. They have lower-end models that aren't costly at all. Checkout the Polar site.

freaky -- Congrats on a successful liftoff!! :flame: Don't know what kind of trainer lifts your legs over your head. If I attempted that I'd tear something. You sure you're not in some kind of S&M club? And I don't want to hear any more that you have foregone exercise for TV?!!?! :nono: But you didn't, did you? The TV was after the exercise, right? So, are you getting your workout in today? And don't worry about the skin. We let it all hang out on this site!!

jolly -- Like I said, don't you have a pause day? I don't remember you taking one. Waiting for your new revised challenge. ;)

Morning all,

Red, I'm fine (but thank you for asking) just incredibly busy. I'm going to have to find a job so I can go to the office for a rest. Son 1 arrives tonight and I am busy cleaning, clearing, getting rid of junk, painting, gardening, mowing. Not to mention tiling, grouting and some general handyman carpentry.

It's all I can do at the moment to keep up with the threads here, much less post replies to everyone. I do read the posts first thing in the morning. So I know who is good and who is not! You know which category you are in!! Not mentioning any names here!

See ya

They are awful habits, aren't they?

thank you :D today is almost complete and looking very successful also, i am almost finished with my 3rd bottle which is just over 50oz and there are still a lot of hours left

the vending machine one is going to be really hard, i am on campus from about 7:45 until a little after 2 every day, i dont have time in the morning for breakfast and usualy by 9 i am hungry so i grab a quick candy bar from the vend and then at noon i have lunch which usualy includes some cookies or something along with what ever else i am having

this is my second semester and it has really become a daily habit because i am so hungry in the morning and a hugely picky eater plus i need the energy the chocolate can provide

so the cookies are staying in (cause i dont always get them anyway they are fresh baked otis spunkmyers and sell out real fast) and the candy bars are going to be out... not sure when i will start this one yet tho... want to make sure i can keep up with my water challenge first
