Ceejay - I was looking at the chart my doctor gave me for weight loss. According to that it looks like they figured 13 calories per pound to maintain your existing weight. Since a pound is worth 3500 calories, you'd cut 500 calories a day (7 days x 500 calories) to lose a pound a week or 1000 calories a day to lose 2 pounds a week. The nutritionist said I should cut an additional 300 calories from the days that I don't exercise. Right now I get LOTS of calories even with cutting back but that would also explain why it gets so much harder when you're down to those last 20 pounds or so.

Also I found myself that if I eat carbs or sugary stuff, I look for more food. I seem to stay more satisfied longer with proteins. That's why a dab of peanut butter on some apple slices or some mixed berries with LF vanilla yogurt have been terrific snack finds - they satisfy that sweet craving. I also like the 100 calorie portion snack packs from Nabisco - those Oreo crisps satisfy the chocolate craving and the graham crackers are nice and crunchy too. And when the bag's empty - you're done. There's enough of a serving at 100 calories to last for a while IF you can eat them one at a time - not always easy.

And last night I was watching the Biggest Loser. They said that 32 strands of spaghetti are in a serving. I thought - no way - that's got to be about 2 cups cooked. I happened to have some spaghetti in the refrigerator so I counted out 32 strands (2 oz). We often use the Kraft Spaghetti kit in a box - their pasta strands are half the size of what you get in a regular box of spaghetti. Even so, 32 half strands was less than 1 cup's worth. I think most diets measure a pasta serving at 1/2 cup. That would be about 10 strands per 1/2 cup serving. No wonder they tell you if you want pasta, make it pasta primavera and load it up with veggies!

I did show hubby my control journal and he sincerely said, you are amazing at what you do!! It was VERY nice to hear. (I am not bashing him) it is like torture for him to express himself. It would also be nice for him to take on few "jobs". He, of course, is gone 11 hours a day and is tired and in pain.

When I didn’t write it all out I was not brushing my teeth or hair and often went to the grocery store in PJ’s.The house was MESSY I was not doing any yoga and I felt panicked about deadlines.
I am feeling some relief to see a plan. I have yet to impliment it fully.

I just created a dream page for my Avon business goals for the year. There is the obvious point of working which is income, pay off debt....but mostly it was freedom to make healthy food choices, go to yoga class, let my kids follow dreams, having a beautiful home( not perfect or even nice really, but beautiful to us)....simplicity, time to garden.....

HUGS and well wishes to all the Worldly Goddesses.

I'm seeing a raft of lit eggs at the moment. Happy is here, so is Holly, so is LindaT

Morning all.

carla49 01-05-2006 02:51 PM

And so is Carla.

Shad 01-05-2006 02:52 PM

Hello Carla - you weren't lit up before. Can you see the egg all alight now?

carla49 01-05-2006 02:56 PM

Yes ma'am! (I wasn't lit up because I just dropped in. So much for spending less time on here...) How's the weather down there?

carla49 01-05-2006 02:58 PM

Here we're finally having a white christmas - just a little late. This morning there were huge gigantic snowflakes drifting down, now it's all grainy and almost sleet. Gotta love winter in Canada!

I think it's time to pull on the boots and head out. My Zen (now known as "Mange-boy") has to start a hypoallergenic diet, and of course they had to order the food. And Lily needs another round of eye drops. I added up the vet bills over the last 6 months and almost had a fit. And of course that doesn't include food and toys and cat furniture... But I'll bundle up and go out in a blizzard so my babies can have their special food. (Whine, whinge.) If I were a truly good mother, I'd cook for them. Then again, at least I haven't challenged Zen's masculinity by giving him earrings for Christmas...;)

All this chat about eggs. Makes me think of breakfast.

It's been raining again overnight - yeehaa  It's not cooling anything down much, the temps have dropped to a more reasonable 31 or 32 and overnight lows are anything but low. But at least it is raining.

Spent yesterday sorting and rearranging the DB2's finances. He has some strange ideas of what he should do, however I am ignoring them for the time being. Made the first payment on the credit card and an insisting on getting that down before other payments are made. He thinks he should get a loan to pay off the credit card. I think that by the time he has paid the loan fees, it will negate the interest rate relief. Anyway it is all theoretical at the moment since no self respecting lending institution would even look sideways at him and non self respecting ones would probably charge the same interest rate as the card. Trying to change his mind sometimes is a bit like trying to avoid a hippo charge across the veldt when the hippo has you firmly in his sights.

Madcat - so sory to hear about TB's father. I'm with Happy on arranging a small informal wedding party. It will certainly give the FIL something to look forward to other than tests and doctors. It may be good to involve him in the plans (if he is not the over organising type). I don't see you all dolled up in one of the meringue outfits anyway - something much more slinky and sophisticated seems to be your style. Let's hope that the tests prove negative all the way and that this is a passing thing.
WTG on the 2 days at the gym.

Hotcup - saw some of those poor families on the tv last night. I'm so sorry for them. I can't blame them for being angry at the company spokesman. Why bother to say anything before you are actually totally sure of the facts! I have problems accepting that philosophy.

Carla - stick with us, you learn lots of fascinating things about this forum like eggs alight and using the advanced features - posting pics etc. Some very clever ladies on here.

Spent the best part of last night on the loo. It's all that darned water. I reckon one only loses weight because of the quick sprints to the nearest loo every five minutes or so. At least it seemed like every 5 minutes last night. It must have been 5 or more times I had to get up to go. Maybe the diurectic kicked in as well. I know I was holding some water somewhere as the scale was climbing daily. Weight loss and tropical summers do not go together!

Okay, will be back later. Can't reply to everyone just now. I need to go to the loo yet again. Sorry TMI. Running, running, running. If not now, it will be too late. Can I blame the cat for the puddle on the floor? Oui, oui??

Ah HA! I saw Happy's Egg Light. Egg Lit. Something like that. It must be our latest sport! Hi Happy!

This was a short week at work - I'm off tomorrow. Slim and I Thai'd one on; we just got back. I had my favorite sushi and he had his favorite Thai pad thai. We rode the bike, of course, and came home the long way. Love riding at night.

Our plan for the morning is a three mile run and then a ride to the diner that we go to every Friday for breakfast. After that we'll go the the Harley store and then go for another ride. I love long weekends.

Just another peek in from work

Hello all. Waving from West Virginia

Egg Lit? Books about eggs? Oh… I see!!

Holly ~ I am sure your DS is so excited he can barely stand still. Hope they do well for his sake. I know what you mean about being reluctant to take the anti histamines. They make me horribly, horribly depressed after prolonged exposure. We list therefore we are…

Ceejay ~ beware of attack trained mops. Good luck with the Sonoma team effort. It sounds as if you are off to a good start. It is important to get enough calories to fuel your body. It seems counter intuitive but it does work.

Java ~ The story of the miners is so sad… not only because of what the families lost but the way in which it happened. My heart bleeds for them. In the meantime, good work on the exercise and eating.

Carla ~ Congrats on the loss. Hold onto that mood. It so works!

Shad ~ I didn't know there was such a thing as too much blue sky. You could sweetly suggest your DS get his ears pierced  then you wouldn't have to make any alterations at all! Do calories burnt running to the loo count as exercise?? I think they do.

LindaT/ Shad/ Happy ~ make me laugh!

Happy ~ You are doing great. It's amazing when anyone can lose weight over holidays! Look at you go. As far as the wedding goes, we were still planning on getting married on the 5th, we were just considering not inviting anyone or having any reception… or rather postponing the reception until the summer and then just doing a casual backyard BBQ thing in a friend's backyard. We've talked it over though and decided we're going to stick to the original plan. It's small by design… and we've left out a lot of "traditional" touches. You are right, Shad, no meringue outfits … I look lousy in white.

Linus ~ It's so good that the wee man is no longer irritated. Oh I don't even want to question your choice of ear wash! I have a friend who had a colicky baby and her comment was "it's a good thing she is cute or we would throw her off the balcony". I am pretty sure she was kidding. There was that one day when she was exhausted and when she saw her husband about to leave for work, looking all clean and tidy in his suit, she neglected to point out he had baby puke all down his back and let him go to work like that.

Mel ~ good luck at the Drs.

Ok, this entry is getting far too long. Workout #3 of the week this morning. Workout #4 tomorrow. I have yet to check out Happy's links. I should go that now. No further word on FIL. No news is good news with any luck.

 Everyone

ceejay52 01-05-2006 11:09 PM

I'll be, I've finally seen a yellow egg, Hi Meadow.

happy2bme 01-06-2006 12:21 AM

Hey Meadow, thanks for the big smile tonight. I'm walkin' :D

Ok, so do we ever get to see pics of our new redheads Madcat and Holly?

Thai'd one one - Tig you crack me up! You and Slim sound like a happy matched set - so nice to see these days. Good to hear you are feeling well enough to run. Maybe we should change your name to Run Around Sue? Enjoy the long weekend - I think the older we get the more we appreciate our free time.

Shad, it sounds as if you will do wonderfully at getting DB2's finances in shape - but the question is - can he handle it on his own once you get him all straightened out? Is he ready to change his ways? I can relate to that myself - hard to break the spending habit but you can manage it once you make your mind up about it. Just think about all those extra steps you're getting in running back and forth to the loo - :coffee: :dancer: Perhaps you should strap on the pedometer! I don't believe them when they say that your body gets used to all the extra water after a while and you can cut the potty breaks. Are you enjoying your time off? Sounds like you are as busy as ever.

Holly glad the DH gave you a favorable reaction to your journal. That's always one of those volatile situations where you expect one reaction and get a totally different one.

I'm starting to feel better. Hoping to be back to my old self by the weekend. I really did need these medications much as I don't like to take stuff. And the anti-inflammatory is doing wonders for my knee. Today I did a quick turn that would have had me on the floor reeling a month ago. I did read up on the anti-inflammatory after the doc said it can be hard on your stomach and to only take it every other day. Hard on your stomach? How about CAN BURN A HOLE IN YOUR STOMACH :yikes: (and if it does do that will the fat leak out??? -- JK) So I went 3 days between meds and the knee is twinging up - treat and monitor the condition.

The last few days it's been springlike and in the 60 degree temps. It feels like spring in the air and even the azalea bushes are starting to change color in the base leaves. That can only mean that we will get slapped with our annual ice storm soon.

I did my 30 minutes "half hour of power" tonight where I just go and do a quick sweep of tidying throughout the house. It's working well - things are getting neat and staying that way - except for hubby leaving taking his shirt off and tossing it about on the couch. Now what if I did that? I know, he'd encourage it more :o

Hello to the rest of the chicks and goodnight all.

Hey, where's Teel lately? I thought she got that fussy computer fixed. Come back Miss Teel, come back.
