Vegas Trip
Hiya ladies,
Since the other Vegas thread was mostly planning, I thought we'd need a new one to chat about the trip. Have any of you seen the commercial for Poligrip that says you can get a free airline companion ticket with 5 proofs of purchase, up to a value of $500.00? Although I googled it, I can't seem to get specific info. No, I don't use Poligrip, but would buy 5 boxes for a free airline ticket to Vegas, lol. Then I could donate the product to the local Senior Center. When I go to Walmart in a day or 2, I'll check it out on the boxes. Cristi - I LOVE your Vegas ticker, and may just get one, too! Here's a link to the hotel: http://www.vegas.com/resorts/flamingo/ |
Jane~I haven't seen the commercial but I agree...it would be worth buying the boxes to get a ticket. I haven't checked into airline tickets yet. Still undecided about whether I want to drive or fly. Thinking I want to drive and stop in AZ to visit my friend on the way to Vegas or on the way back home and do other stuff. So I don't know yet. Decisons, decisons! I thought the ticker was a cute idea! And it changes each day. Wasn't sure when I did it how it worked, if I was going to have to change it or if it did it automatically. That would be too much counting/figuring on my part  Good idea about the new thread to talk about the trip! :)
|
Cristi - it would be really fun for you to visit friends on your way to/from Vegas. I used to use a ticker over on the Disney thread to count down our trips to Disney World.
Angie - do you think Becky's coming with you? About the hotel, I didn't realize it was so nice! Sometimes after the peace and quiet of the country, I need a little hustle and bustle, lol. I found out about the Poligrip stuff. Yes, it's legit, but you have to buy the first ticket from them, and the price depends on where you're leaving from and where you're going. Not sure if it would be worth it, but will check into it. www.poligrip.com is the url. Later, ladies! |
Jane -
David found the polident offer and is looking into details, I guess the regular price ticket is kind of steep, but still could be worth it. I could use the denture cleaner on my retainer :) Southwest Airlines has really good deals on fares, but only book four months out. David and I are going to book the Flamingo tonight and will be looking into airfare as the next few months progress. I'm getting excited. I have a points visa card and it has a concierge feature. We're going to see if they can get us Avenue Q tickets and use my points to defray the cost. MIL says we are not to miss the nighttime displays at Treasure Island and Bellagio. fun fun fun |
www.polident.com - I noticed it's different from your URL, Jane, but I 'm pretty sure we're talking about the same offer.
|
Katy- since we have to pay tax and fees either way, the ticket would still be a lot cheaper for us using the poligrip/polident offer, even including the price of the poligrip and the $9.95 handling fee. Right now, the flight fee from Evansville to Vegas is running around $350.00 compared to $400.00 ish from them. I forget the exact amount. My sister said the same thing about the nighttime show at Bellagios, so it must be really spectacular. Like you, I'm really excited about the whole trip and I can't believe the Jaded Ladies are really going to do this. :cp:
|
Hello,
I have talked about the Vegas trip with Becky and she is game. The nightlife along the strip is unbelievable,,,lots to see and its free. Monte and I like going into Cesears there is a cool show in there. Id love to see Avenue Q..one of the cast members has left for Vegas today..hes got tickets. Another friend left for New York she has tickets to see Wicked, and Avenue Q,,Im jealous...I really want to see both. well off to bed I go |
The fountain show at Bellagio is great and the conservatory in there always has a beautiful display. The Mirage has a volcano that erupts, and I haven't seen the new show at Treasure Island although the old show was neat. Now it has more showgirls in it I guess. The Venitian has gondola rides through the casino. Lots of neat things.
Right now we are getting Southwest for $158.40 each round trip.(from Indianapolis) You are right that they only book a few months out. Right now they are booking till March 31. Their best rates are Tues., Wed., and Sat. Since we are flexible we can play with the dates though as others can't always do. |
We're booked! For the Flamingo, at least...DH is looking into the polident offer, but we'll most likely wait and book with Southwest...
|
Thanks for the info Sue. Are you going to be there when the rest of us are? I know that's not your normal "Vegas" time.
Angie - I think it's going to be hard to decide what to do, lol. Glad Becky will probably come with you. We'll make a Jaded Lady out of her yet, lol. Katy - my sister says ATA is cheaper, too. Might save the coupons for a different trip. Glad you're signed up a the Flamingo. |
Anyone thinking anymore about the trip/get-together? I am so looking forward to it and I definitely will be driving. Plan on taking my time and either visiting my friend to or fro, and maybe will even go to CA! Anyway, was thinking if anyone has given much thought to what we will be doing? I will be down there for 4 days and don't want to end up doing something if you ladies plan on doing it together. Anyway, just curious as to what everyone has in mind for the trip.
Susan, Angie have you ladies booked yet? Angie is your friend going to come along? Anyone else booked? I know some said they have to wait...I do hope everyone gets to go! |
Cristi - I'm really looking forward to it, too. Good idea to visit your friends en route. That way you don't have to fly, and have more freedom, too. I'm up for doing whatever the group wants, within reason, lol. Not too crazy about hanging outdoors, though, that time of year in Vegas.
Angie - would you be willing to forgo the blue hair dye for some eyebrow wax? I need someone to shape my eyebrows for me so I can keep them up, and I think you're just the person to do it. Just don't make me look permanently surprised, lol. To those of you who've been to Vegas, what sights do we not want to miss? |
I can't believe it Monte is trying to book a few days off...Im excited about that also. Of course he knows I won't be wanting to miss anything with the ladies,,,which hes cool with.
What do you mean surprized Jane? the OMG you did what to what? Or flirty surprize? |

ok,,,wont' do that one...
|
What's the date for the trip?
|
Hi Jules~the date is June 23 I believe. I think Katy will be there a little sooner than the Friday planned, if I remember correctly. And I plan on being there Thursday the 22. I think Jane was flying in on the 23rd sometime. Do you think you would be able to make it? We would love to have ya join us! The more the merrier! :carrot:
|
My husband reconnected with his cousins from AZ this past summer and they want us to come out to see them. We hadn't come up with any dates yet, but maybe a mini trip to Vegas could be included.
|
Jules,,,that would be great for you two to join us.
|
Ladies, I don't know how to do this, but if you can read this link...it is a good info tool for Vegas and many other cities.

Thanks Sue for the link, definitely will be checking it out! :thanks:
|
So sorry!
I thought I should probably post, finally, about this trip.
I'm not going to make it. :( I'm so sorry! James & I were planning on going, but the vacation slot was taken. (I was surprised at how many men take time off for Fathers day) And the next one available was during 4th of July. So he took that one. And since it didn't match the date for Vegas, we decided to go back to San Fran and explore all the places we didn't get to last time. I had thought about trying to do both, but our budget isn't what we thought since James' income was cut down by more than half during his 6mos of training. I hope you all do have a fabulous time and take many pictures and then decide that you want to do this every year. That way I can make it to the next meeting. I'm going to go cry now............. |
Marti - you will be missed!! It truly won't be the same without you. Hopefully, this will be an annual thing, so you can plan ahead. I'm sure there will be lots of pictures, and we'll all share.
|
ah darn Marti thats too bad. Lets hope we can do this again and then you can join us.
|
Marti...I am really sorry that you won't be able to make the trip. :( Was so looking forward to meeting you in person. And I too hope this will be an annual thing so that you can make it to the next one. (((((HUGS))))) sweetie. :grouphug:
|
Marti-
VERY :rollpin: upset about this news!!! It totally makes me wanna eat!:hungry: UGH.......... It would have been wonderful to meet you in person but you will be there in :genie: spirit!! Maybe something will happen by June where you will be able to make it :) HUGS!:grouphug: :grouphug: |
Marti--you are going to be missed--really love it when a face can be put with a name....
--my DH doesn't want to go in June--says it will be too hot. DD's bday is June 20th so maybe she will be up for going with me--if not this will be my first trip alone without my family--I am having my mid life - empty-nest crisis --LV sounds like a good stopping point on my travels to ??????? - haven't decided yet!! |
Jules - I had no idea you were going to get to go, and I'm so happy to hear that you can make it!!! Have you made your reservation yet? I've booked a suite that has a closed off bedroom so we'll have plenty of room to meet and chat when we want even if Neal goes to bed. There's a dining area and 2nd powder room, and I forget what else. Did you know Angie's doing make-overs? I've never liked the shape of my eyebrows, and she's going to inflict pain on me, hehe. There was talk of blue hair dye, too. No, not for the eyebrows! :lol3: Anyway, I'm glad you're going to make it.
|
Jane -- what good is blue hair if your eyebrows don't match??? Honestly, girl...what are we gonna do with you?
Marti, I'm really sorry you can't go! :( It's still up in the air for me, because we have no idea if I can get the time off, Tim can get the time off, and if we will have enough money! Crossing my fingers and still trying to make it work. We already promised Noah Disneyland on Spring Break, so that will eat up our vacation fund for a while. Hopefully our tax return will re-seed the travel bank a little bit, but I'm not holding my breath that it will be all that great. Just a thought though...I know your trip to SF will be a romantic getaway, but it's only about 2 hours from my house. Maybe before you head home, we could hook up and have dinner or something? |
Sad news
:( Well, ladies, I am afraid I have to cancel our trip to Vegas. I was so looking forward to seeing you all, and having this anniversary getaway, but it's just not in the cards.
My DH is not going to be coaching track this year...not a good situation. He was being treated very dismissively by the new head coach and he decided that it just wasn't worth it and resigned. Or walked away before they dumped him. Depends on who you talk to. I supported this decision. This gives him more time to work on our house! We can absorb the $3K hit to the budget, but it does mean that we have to keep our anniversary plans cheaper and closer to home. We are looking at a mid-week trip to Ashland to see some plays over two days at the Shakespearean Festival. I am sorry that I have to do this, but I believe in living frugally for this very reason. I don't feel my DH should have to work at something that makes him miserable just because we need the money, so this is the choice we had to make this year. I do hope that gatherings will be a yearly event. Next year, we should be a little more flush as our renovation expenses should be stabilizing. DH is going to take some classes to move up a step on the payscale so I might be able to afford to fly to a meet-up. |
I was just thinking last night that I need to update the info on who's going and who can't make it after all!
Katy - so sad that you won't be going, and although I'll miss meeting you, you're doing the right thing! A man has to stand his ground with dignity. A pox on the head coach! There will be other years to meet, so don't worry about it, Katy. :) To the others who said they're going - Cristi, Angie, Jules, Susan - is this a FOR SURE thing? Neal and I would never go to Vegas in June except to meet you, so let me know, ok? The room deposit is totally refundable, but the airline tickets are not, so now's a real good time to say if there's been a change in plans, before I buy them. I've been waiting for my airline to accept reservations for that time slot, which will be soon. So how's it looking for you guys? |
Monte and I are still in!
|
Not me... :( I am having surgery on my arm and won't have enough money or leave time from work to take. The vacation calendar is full anyway -- nothing left but wait list for the whole summer now. *sigh* Hope you guys have a great time!
|
Jane...I am still in also. But...I was thinking... if not anymore people are going (Susan & Jules) or even so...maybe we should rethink meeting in Portland. Hate to throw that in there, but the whole point of the get-together was for everyone to get-together and if some can't, seeing as there are three ladies in OR and all pretty close to one another, maybe we could just go there. Just throwing it out there to see if anyone is up for that before any flight plans are made. I probably would fly there, not sure but something to think about maybe. But I am set for Vegas.
KATY...so sorry that you guys won't be able to make the trip after all. Totally understand but you will be missed. :( Same goes for you MARYKATE...sorry you guys can't make it either. |
Katie - so sorry I left your name out. It wasn't intentional, hon. But I was thinking you'd already said it was a no-go?
Cristi - I see what you're thinking, and that's nice, but I think Angie and Monte are excited about Vegas... also, Neal is wanting to go there. So let's stick with that, ok? It took us long enough to come up with that one, lol. If we change it, how about Indiana? :D Sue and I are here, Connie is relatively close, and Mindee is close by in Michigan. When you guys get your tickets bought, holler at me, ok? |
I am in for Vegas.I just am waiting for taxes in start of March to make reservation and purchase plane ticket.
|
Jane - well...I was a "hopeful". Biggest challenge was the vacation calendar at work. I am about halfway down the seniority list, so by the time the vacation choices get to me, Christmas, Thanksgiving, 4th of July, and every three day weekend already have all the time around them reserved. We get three picks, and my first choice had to be Spring Break since we had already made Disney plans w/Noah. Then everyone else got their first choice, and I had to wait for my second pick. By the time that rolled around, the entire summer was wait list only. They only let 7-8 people scheduled off on vacation for any given day. So I had the wait list option in case somebody cancelled, but it's really hard to make hotel reservations and buy plane tickets if you don't even know if you'll have the time off work.
But then this surgery came up, and that decided it for me. I will be off work for at least 4-6 weeks, at reduced pay -- right before Disneyland in April :( So, unfortunately, Vegas just doesn't seem to be in the cards for me this year... :D OK, sorry, that was a rotten pun, wasn't it? Anyway, I hope you guys all have a fantastic time, and I will be there in spirit for sure. |
That's fine Jane...just thought I would throw that out there since it was an option before. Besides...I may not be going anyway. Haven't cancelled my reservations as of yet, and won't until I am absolutely sure. Everything depends on what is going on with Josh. If it comes down to going to HI or NV, sorry ladies I'm going to see my son in HI-my kids always come first. Like I said, it depends on when and if that happens. I haven't heard from him and am afraid he won't be coming home before being sent there. So we will see what happens.
|
Katy & Marti
We can drive down - lol just a thought - 3 driving we would be there in no time. |
Count me in on those who are bailing out. On 2nd thought, Neal and I just don't want to go to Vegas in such extreme heat. Several people have asked us if we're crazy to think of going there in late June, which really got us to thinking about not going. Especially since he is retired, and we are free to go anytime of the year.
If any of you want to try for a cool place, let me know. :) |
