Hello!

Been MIA for a few days - had a couple of bad days foodwise but have been back on track since Weds. I went to my cycle class on Wednesday and I REALLY struggled - my legs hurt from the moment I started and I just had no energy. I was really disappointed with myself that I couldn't give it 100%, but at least I stuck it out, although at times I thought I wouldn't make it! It actually turned out that I've had a bit of a bug, (sore throat, fuzzy head)so I had a rest day yesterday and feel better for it. I went to the gym today and had a full workout - I had a lot more energy and was glad that my bug seems to have been a 48 hr thing.

FAYE - Well done you on the 6lb down! It sounds like you've been having a good week and there will be more pounds down to come! Sorry about all the stress at the pool - at the end of the day you have to think of your own health and safety and you shouldn't have to put up with intimidation and threats . I'm really glad that you don't have to deal with it anymore AND you still get to have your swims! It sounds like the only way they will sort it out is to get security at the pool (and by security I don't mean a 50 year old menopausal woman with allergies and a bad knee!!! ) and add the cost to your residents charges. It's totally unfair - but I'm sure people would prefer that to the pool being closed permanently.

NIKKI - Hey there! Good for you for getting back running! Those pounds will come flying off!

Hello JULIE, CARRI,SUSAN & DOT

Have a lovely weekend all!

SATURDAY: Today is Sunny Thoughts Saturday. Time to share the sunny and funny side of life.

POINTS:

Faye

I went over last night, BUT I didn't binge or pig out. I just had some bloomin onion slices and few chips with salsa and a root beer. I also paid for it with heartburn and a stomachache!

Amanda: Yeah, I might hot flash them to death!

It is cloudy and very humid this morning, but unless it is lightening, I am going to go and get in the pool at 8 am. I am less likely to encounter disgruntled people on a weekend at 8 am! Anyway, need to get to the nail salon first thing this am and they open at 9:30 AM.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. We are probably going to get some big time rain from the tropical storm starting tomorrow.

Hi there!

I got 4 points yesterday. I am pleased with myself as I was a bit bored this evening (around 6pm) - so I just got my stuff together and went for a swim! I've never been to the gym that late before as it is usually packed with the after work crowd, but I knew it would be really quiet as it is the weekend. I was a bit worroed that I would be the only saddo there with nothing to do on a Saturday evening, but there were quite a few people there, although it was still lovely and quiet. I've had a bad leg for a day or so (muscular problem) - so a good swim really loosened it up. I think I might make that a regular thing on an early Saturday evening as there is nothing on TV at that time and I get bored.

FAYE - Hope you enjoyed a peaceful swim!

SUNDAY: Today is Silly Poll Sunday and our silly poll this week is, what is the best advice another overweight person ever gave you?

POINTS:

Amanda
Faye

I let my tummy get ahead of me yesterday and overate and didn't get in my water, but that is NOT going to stop me and I am NOT going to mess up today!

Amanda: The pool is my best friend in the summer. I just love it. The peacefulness, the quiet, watching the planes fly in, the exercise that I know I couldn't do out of the pool with my bad knees. It is a true stress reliever. I even go over in the rain. I figure I am going to be wet anyway, right?

The best advice an overweight person ever gave me was don't stress about losing weight, let it come naturally. I took that to heart and now even when I mess up, go for periods of time doing badly, I know not to GIVE UP on myself.

Everyone have a great day! Hope the Cubbies can sweep the Red Sox at Wrigley today!

Hi there!

I had a bad day yesterday - overate and didn't exercise at all! I was planning to go to the advanced spin class but it wasn't until 4pm and by the time it came round I was feeling tired again and had an afternoon nap! I've been to the gym today though and had a full workout so I'm back on course.

SILLY POLL - I've had two bits of excellent advice from fat people - one was Nigel telling me that being fat is NOT TERMINAL - meaning that it is something that CAN be changed - until then I really believed that I could never be slim, that I would always be overweight and had 'big bones' (thanks mum!). The second bit of advice comes from a very wise lady called Faye who told me to always value myself as I am - no matter how big I get, it does not make me less of a person. Faye, your advice helped me to pluck up the courage to go swimming and I always hear you when I'm feeling self conscious - thanks hon!

hey ladies,
how are yall doin? I am really upset right now. I went to the doc a couple weeks ago and she wouldnt put me on birth control cuz my blood pressure was really high, but i figured that was a mix of built up stress and nervousness. So I checked my bp just a minute ago and its still really high. My mom wants me to go to the dr to do something about it...but i really dont want to take pills. My mom has a pill that controls every part of her body and ive always told myself i WOULD NOT be like that. I just dont understand how i can weigh almost 240 and have normal bp then lose fifty pounds and have high bp...i thought losing weight helped with that. Gah...Im not taking pills. Well I am going to call and make an appointment tomorrow so i guess I will let you know how it goes. Anyways. I ran a mile and a half today, and ate well, and drank oh about a ton of water...so i guess i had a four pointer. Ill talk to yall tomorrow.
peace Nikki

TUESDAY: Today is Target Tuesday and our target this week is health issues related to weight. Since Nikki brought it up, I thought is was apropo to talk about this. Many of us put off drs because we don't want to hear ragging on our weight, we don't want to step on that scale, we are afraid their really is something wrong with us. The fact of the matter is we are3-4 times more likely to have high blood pressure and diabetic issues being overweight. Dont put your health at risk, see your dr on a regular basis.

POINTS:

Faye

Amanda: I keep saying this, I am very proud of you. You have found your niche when it comes to exercising and you have stuck with it. That in itself is something you should really be excited about. I thank you for the accolades and am glad that at least one person in this world gets what I mean about loving their fat self. It surely does make all the difference in the world!

Nikki: Run, don't walk to the dr and get medication if the dr feel it is needed. Blood pressure and diabetes are two things that truly you cannot mess with. Oh, you may not feel bad but it can cause blindness, kidney destruction and a host of other things you never realize are destroyed until it is to late. I know that you don't want to give in to taking meds, I didn't either, but I did it to save my life. It isn't permanent, you can get it under control and possibly give the pills up. At your age and the fact you have lost weight, something ELSE may be wrong and you know that you should know what that is. I would get some tests done to see why your BP is high. There IS a reason and it may NOT be weight! Their are millions with high BP at a normal weight. Your cholesterol may still be high, you may have high HDL and need to change your eating to bring it down, but a simple blood test can show all that. Listen, I was 325 lbs when I had my cholesterol checked for the first time and it was 105, which is spectacular, and my hdl and ldl were the best the doctor had ever seen, still didn't make me healthy as I had higher blood pressure.

Have a good day girls!

FYI: talked to Carri this morning. She and hubby are fine. She has just been very very busy.

Faye

alright, well i have an appointment for this afternoon with the doc. Faye, thanks for the advice. I know that alot of times I can be immature and unrealistic about my health expectations, but in this case its a little more than that. Growing up I've watched my mom down dozens of pills a day, and I have seen the lasting effect they have on her. She has diabetes, high blood pressure...shes basically got the whole works, and my biggest fear in life is being like her health wise. I don't want to have to go through that or put my family through it. But I am going to the dr today, and hopefully she'll help me get everything in order. Let ya know how it goes.

Hi all,

I got 4 points yesterday - had a big workout at the gym and am really tired and achy today. It's taking longer than I thought to build up a regular gym routine - it's been about 3 weeks now and I'm still having to have every other day off as I'm so wiped out and achy! I've not lost any weight since joining the gym - you'd think with all those spinning classes that the weight would be flying off, but I seem to have hit a plateau. Of course my eating has been very up and down aswell - too many pizza's as always! Julie will be pleased to hear that we have decided to resurrect Friday night pizza night - I don't know why we stopped it because it seemed to work and was a treat night to aim for (homemade pizza - not takeaway). If I know I can have a pizza on a Friday then it encourages me to be good for the rest of the week.

NIKKI - Good for you for biting the bullet and going to the doc's about your BP. Listen girlie - ven if you do need to take meds for a while, it does not mean you will turn out like your mother. In the long run you are doing the absolute best thing for your health by losing weight and exercising - which is excellent for your physical and mental health. I agree it is a bummer that it's happened now that you've lost weight though!

Talking of 'Target Tuesday' - I'm thinking of seeing my doctor as I feel so run down and exhausted all the time. I always put off seeing her because I assume all my problems are because of the extra weight I'm carrying - but I've lost 22 lb now and I'm feeling so exhausted that I've been taking afternoon naps (and I don't work - so I can't say it's due to that). I don't know - maybe it's just adjusting to the gym workouts - I'm due to see her in a month as she monitors my depression so I'll see how I am then.

well, i did it. I went to the doc. she asked me all these questions about excercise and eating and such. So after hearing about my weightloss, and how i eat and excercise, she told me that I was doing really fantastic and that it was probably hereditary. they did blood work to see whats up. She said my bp was boarderline high, but since i run so much and bp gets higher when you excersice she put me on a damn pill cuz she wants my bp to be all kinds of healthy when i start running so i dont put myself in danger. She knows i dont wanna be on a pill so she said when i lose 10-15 more lbs shell see if im okay enough to take me off the meds, but until then i had to deal with it. Im not thrilled but i guess its better than a stroke.
