Yeah, i have a friend here at work who said she got all the same stuff sone for between 4-500 bucks total (including labor and the thermostat, hoses, etc.). I was kinda mad, but there's not much I can do about it now, since I was so eager to just get it fixed that I gave them the go-ahead when the guy called me this morning. I'll check the itemized bill when I get to the shop later and see how much they charged for the parts. If the radiator's listed at an irrational amount, I'll be sure to comment and make a stink about it--even car places know that unhappy customers = bad publicity. I might have to bite the bullet and pay the insane amount on this one, but at least I'll know to never go back there again. However, their estimate for my front drive axles was only about 40 bucks higher than my first shop had estimated ($40 when you're talking over $500 isn't an insane difference), so maybe there's something to it. Have to wait and see...

I Am Sooooo Annoyed!

When I weighed myself in Jan...I was at 310...I then went to 298...Now I go to weigh myself and it says I am at PLUS 30 pounds.. NO WAY....I cannot see how this is possible. My face is thinner, my clothes are bigger, etc...No way did I gain that much in less than 2 month's time. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO irritated. :( I hope it is the scale that is screwed up...Will have to put something on there tomorrow to weigh it to be sure. If not, boy, I could scream... Sorry to vent! I am just sooo upset...I have really been trying to be good, espcially the past month or so, to have gained, especially THAT much, well, I just don't get it.... :bomb:

jillybean720 03-21-2005 05:48 PM

diana,

Have you tried weighing yourself somewhere else? at a gym or a dr's office? Try using a real balance scale rather than a small home scale. It's extremely difficult to gain 30 pounds in a month even if you are binging every day, so I am willing to bet money that it is the scale, ESPECIALLY if your clothes are fitting looser! Get thee to another scale immediately!!

Gardenwife 03-21-2005 07:20 PM

Aaargh, I can imagine the shock of seeing that number - I feel your pain! :P No doubt - GO and weigh somewhere you can calibrate to be sure. Bring a couple gallon jugs of water (8lbs each) with you, or a 20lb bag of cat litter or something which has a known weight, and weight that. If you've been exercising, you could be gaining muscle, which would appear to offset losses since it's denser and weighs more than fat.

Not much going on around here. I'm still not able to walk, and still can't swim until the Monistat7-clone does its job. Now I wish I'd just gone ahead and bought the 1 or 3-day product, worth the extra bucks when we're talking 7 days without swimming. Maybe if things clear up I can go swimming sooner, though. I'm a fish out of water! ;)

Tonight's mango salsa with fish at Chez Gardenwife. What dinners have y'all been enjoying? I've got a bunch of fresh veggies to cut and prep for use through the next couple weeks. Sure helps to have them cut and ready to use!

DianaLS 03-21-2005 07:30 PM

Sigh!

Wellll!I guess my scale is off by around 10 pounds. I drove to my Mom-in-law's she has a Calibrated scale like those u see in the drs or the gym...I am at 320...So all of this time I had been fooled into thinking I had lost a few pounds since Jan 1 when in all reality I gained a couple. This explains why my Periods are so wacked too, and why my back hurts...DUH! Well, u know what? this makes me so mad that I WILL LOSE THIS WEIGHT AND KEEP IT OFFFFFFF! I want to know other than Fit day, is there another site I can use, one that is simpler, to keep track of all of my eating, etc...I need to get on the program, no ifs ands or BUTTS about it... :moo: If not, then Fit Day it is... :(

Gardenwife 03-21-2005 07:37 PM

Good for you! You can do it -- we all can. Don't believe the big fat :nose: lies...We all know what they are and how they can paralyze us from action. Do this for yourself!

SwimGirl 03-21-2005 08:59 PM

Diana - come to my house, I have this scale that says you are about 10-15 pounds lighter than you are.. I always get on it for fun.. You are doing weights correct? In which case, take your measurements!! I learned from experience that a scale won't tell you a thing if you are doing weights... so tomorrow morning, take those measurements and keep on going. What are you doing? I know a little about weight loss and healthy eating, and I know a lot about exercise. Maybe I can offer you some advice... anything to help you :)

Kimberley - I hate it when I'm all motivated and can't do something.. hopefully your thang will clear soon... eat lots of low fat, aspartame free yogurt!

So I went to the dentist.. and it was heart breaking.. I have two cavities, not one, but TWO! They are inbetween two teeth, so I guess it couldn't just be one. I made it 25 years without one.. I guess I can pride myself on that, eh? I'm getting it taken care of tomorrow, I'm hoping I can floss it out, and maybe I won't have to get anything done? This is why I'm not scared of the dentist, I've only ever had my teeth cleaned. I walked to the dentists, and home, so thats 4.5 km's. Half of which is straight up hill, I hate my mountain. I will do a proper workout in a few minutes. Tae-Bo is kicking my butt, I love it! I'm trying to get a few workouts in, it's the week before my period, and I put on 6 pounds this time. I hate that, but I figure I'll get a few extra workouts in and it'll even out next week.

I just my mail, and inside was an easter gift from my mom :) She's so great, I was born to the best mother for me.. She sent a cute card, and then a card making book. I'm addicted to making cards, they are SO much fun! I don't have a proper workspace in this house, but definitely will in my next house. I should sell them when I get good, because my house is already overrun with cards!

Oh Diana - were you using the same scale you first used? Because it's really important to be consistant. I know my scales are both wrong, but I'm consistently using the one, so I know when I've lost weight.

Ty for the advice Aimee...yes the same scale both times, until I went to the MILs and used the real deal...I havee a rod that goes the length of my spine so I am pretty stifled as to what I can phsically do...Am mostly walking we have a .6 mile loop, and if I have to go out and walk it three times a day I will do so until I am at the 5 miles a day i want to strive for. I also use my recumbant bike for now and do the first program which is 5 miles. I won;t be able to get on my Mt Bike until I lose some of this weight. I have NO ONE to blame but myself. I am not really going to start lifing until I lose some weight...I have a lot of muscle mass alrady and don't want to end up looking like aRNOLD. aNYHOO, tY FOR THE ADVICE, i APPRECIATE IT..oops sry, hit caps... :D

Hey all, thanks so much for the warm welcome. Hubby and I walked when we spent the weekend at his parents house, and there were inclines to the road we walked, and I forgot to stretch afterwards, and ended up hurting some muscle(I didnt know I had those..lol) that is somewhere from my behind to the back of my leg. So I haven't been able to workout since Saturday night. So I just did my ww, and tomorrow is my fitness at school, so i'll take it slow and hope for the best. ITs so wierd. I hate exercise, I hate not being able to eat my favorite foods, but I felt so out of place not being able to eat my core foods while at his parents, or work out the past two days....interesting.
Di, my dearheart, I say we should throw our scales out the window and go by clothes sizes...can we make a cool slide for that one? like size 24 goal size 12 12 sizes to go...that works waaay better for me. or we could say something like wearing sweats, goal is wearing cute lingerie.....well, you get the idea. lol
well, i need to put the kids to bed...i have two of them. have a wonderful evening all, and I'll be back tomorrow night. Hugs to all

LOL sounds good to me..I agree about the scale, and clothes sizes.. I am going to stick with measurments too...I agree with Aimee about that...Love ya hon, HAGN! :^: PS: Sorry to hear about your pulled muscles, that stinks when that happens... :p

SwimGirl 03-21-2005 10:36 PM

My butt hurts! I just did Tae-bo, and while I was able to do more this time, I kinda slacked near the end with the abs. But I finished!

Heather & Diana - I do like the idea of measuring with sizes and measurements, because if we are working out, we aren't going to lose as much, does that make sense? Like, for example, I could never weigh 130 pounds, that would mean I'd have to lose all my muscles.. and I enjoy my athletic build. Right now I'm 257 (not including evil water weight from upcoming TOM), and I wear a size 18-20. My friend weighs 230 and wears the same size as me, and she's 1 inch taller.

Alright, I am off to shower! I'm all sticky from my workout! The bf works late tonight, so I'm solo for dinner... must.. eat.. healthy .. even though no one is here to notice. Hmm, speaking of which, Should I eat my lowfat brownie? or throw it out?

:flow2: Good morning all!!! Nice to see this being such a busy thread and hello to anyone I've missed. I went to the gym after work yesterday and went on the machine of doom for the first time (the cross trainer/eliptical) it was very fun, but boy my legs feel tired this morning. :tread:

Di, I hate scales. I get weighed at my gym once a week, and their scales are dodgy, they can afford three new treadmills, two cross trainers and four bikes, not to mention the two steppers that no one ever uses, but can they get a decent set of scales??? :goodscale: nope.

So I go my measurements, the gym does my body fat (which is just plain scarey) and tape measurements as well. In eight weeks I have lost over 4% body fat and 28 cm around my body. (that's almost a foot)

I want the recipe for mango salsa please!!!!!!

Gardenwife 03-22-2005 03:52 AM

 *Sigh*

I'm afraid this batch of salsa did not turn out good at all. I made a killer batch of it for Superbowl Sunday this year, but darned if I could find the recipe. I know the ingredients, but not all the proportions. Of the four red onions I bought this week, two were just plain nasty inside when I sliced 'em in half, and one was so-so.

The last onion, my bright and shining hope for said salsa, was not moldy, but it was really strong. And, as if AWOL recipe and the onion situation weren't warning enough, the cherry tomatoes I bought weren't sweet. Last time I made it, I used cherry tomatoes because the regular ones we have available are really nasty this time of year. They were sweet and delicious...But this bunch was not. I can't wait until summer, when fresh produce is readily available!

It was just plain nasty stuff. All we could taste was onion. Not that I have anything against onions, but when they overpower the delicious sweet mango...Well, both salsas I made went into the garbage after dinner. Man, I really hate wasting food like that!

On a plus note , the honeydew melon I bought is fantastic - even better than some I've bought at peak season. And the salmon itself was really tasty. :dancer: I just put some butter-flavored Pam on it along with some kosher salt and a little Italian seasonings and broiled it about 5 minutes each side. I'd already removed the skin before I cut it into portion sizes and froze it.

I'll see if I can locate the original mango salsa recipe - the one that turned out good. It was very similar to the one Applebee's serves with their Weight Watcher's menu tilapia entree. That salsa was my inspiration to find a recipe with the ingredients I knew were in it. Just don't bother trying to make it unless you have good ingredients available, LOL! :D

DianaLS 03-22-2005 10:22 AM

LOL @ GArdenwife...Just a quick not before Iget out and start the day...I loved my neighbor's Mango Salsa too, it was fantastic, but she never gave me the recipe. Have tried others, and were not the same, not even close, LOL...Okay, off to get things accomplished, will BBL!

I bought a tanita scale after I'd been on this program for a while just so I could have some peace of mind that the numbers were accurate. After I weighed myself on the Tanita I saw that my weight was 10lbs heavier than on my original scale. I had a fit. Hang in there, Diana.

Kylie, I agree that the body fat number is not pleasant to face :o That O magazine said women should have about 30 percent. I saw somewhere else 25, so that comforted me a little.

I had this box of chocolates that someone gave me that I've been munching in, had one yesterday then chucked the rest in the garbage. The chocolate will not have power over me! :D

I've been taking my full walk, about 1 mile, every day this week, I pooped out doing the full walk for a while because of the winter and a foot injury. That feels good. I had problems with my knees from the walking and marching in place, I had to strenghten them with an exercise using free weights (I place a 5 lb weight on the top of my feet while I'm sitting down, then lift it about a foot in the air slowly, then go back down).

Yesterday's lesson learned: don't drink an entire water bottle at 9:30 at night, it means getting up at least 3 times during the night for a run to the can!
