  • 2Fru - if you like blues or folk or rock...go see Jackie Greene in London for me...he's playing at the Enterprise on Tuesday, May 9 and at the Borderline on Wednesday, May 10. You can check out his tunes on his MySpace site or here He's a local kid going bigtime...I'm bordering on obsessive about him (ya think?)...but he really is a great show.
Reb - He hits Kansas in June...
Jules - I think Kathy pretty much said what I would have suggested...parking lots 'til you feel more confident...and a class...don't fear the clutch! You'll get used to it. (Not sure what a suicide clutch is, tho...I think I might be able to live without whatever that is. ) Kathy's right about riding "pillion" (I always called it a word that starts with a "b" - but same difference). Once you learn to ride for yourself he can kiss his bike goodbye...
  • Thanks for all the advice--there is a beginners safety course close by. Hubby & his friend have decided that I can start on the friends dirt bikes with knee and elbow pads, so that I am ready for the beginners course. I can't wait to be off on my own on those days where I want to ride but he just doesn't feel like it......

Gina--btw--congrats on the 100 lb loss!!!
  • Jules, I totally agree with the others get a class, do not I repeat do not let your DH teach you as it may end a nasty divorce Also I would recommend not getting on a big bike to get used to things at first. If someone you know has a scooter or a smaller dirt bike take that to practice the use of the clutch and get a feel for how everything works.

Gina a suicide clutch is off to the side of the bike, not on the handle bars. The indication of the name gives you an idea of how hard they are to use. A lot of old school bikers like them. I totally agree with you about riding *itch. My DH loves it when I go with him but I don't like feeling my tail bone at the top of my head anymore and like to have comfort. I have gone with him a couple of time in the last week and I do have to say it better since I have lost a bit of weight, but still like my own ride.

I wanted to go riding on Saturday but it rained all morning and then was chilly in the afternoon. Yesterday was great but had family plans for Easter. I am ready for a couple hours of riding but it has only been short trips so far.

Reb congrats on the weight loss!

Kathy I just took my girls to the zoo a couple of weeks ago. It was fun. Got some really neat pictures and scrap booked them. It was a good day for all of us. Glad you had fun.

Well all hope you have a good tax day if you haven't finished them yet. Keep on Keep'n on!
  • Woo Hoo!! I rode in to work today! It was a tad nippy....should be nice when I'm ready to head out, though. In the middle of an ugly conference call...gotta go!
  • Yay!
    Good Morning Everyone!

Sooooo good to see you're all out there riding! YAY!

Holly, THAT is one COOOOOL BIKE!

I'm gonna take the MSF course on May 7.....don't know if I'll want my own bike, but I figure I NEED to know how to ride ours in case of emergency!

Not much time to catch up with you this morning....We're off to St. Augustine on our bike to spend the night on a boat that's owned by a bed & breakfast. 2BR/2Bath! http://bed-boat-st-augustine.com/ We're riding up with friends & will have dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, The Columbia. They're famous for Cuban food. Yum! http://www.columbiarestaurant.com./st_augustine.asp Needless to say, I will NOT be on-plan!! It's my b-day celebration tho.....so I'll get right back on it after that!!

    See ya'll Friday!
  • Holly - that is a gorgeous ride

I saw a Suzuki SR 650 last night, in bright yellow! I was practically jumping up and down at it!

I've been working out lots and lots, yesterday did run gym run, then run, then kickboxing! Today it's gym, body conditioning class, gym induction!

Eating's a bit odd, but it'll straighten out! Methinks that I actually need a little bit more food to keep me awake and functioning on all cylinders!
  • Hi all!
I got my new riding jacket and pants today! Why? Because I'm too fat to fit into my stuff from last year! Who cares! I have new riding gear and the jacket's yellow to match my bike! Hubby is ordering a new helmet today and I'm having him order me some new gloves to match the jacket...I can't have blue gloves and a yellow jacket... very tacky. 71 degrees tomorrow and 69 on Friday....guess who's going riding!

I had to get up early for work today and it wasn't too bad, so I'm going to get up early tomorrow and exercise *working on the convincing lies now*. I have to exercise, and I have to ride (boss wants me to join a group for marketing purposes ), so my days just became a little bit longer.

2fru, your posts make me tired!

HarleyMom, when my husband tried to teach me about counter steering I got SO mad at him. It didn't make any sense and I ended up crying and stroming out of the room. He did take me to a parking lot a few times before the MSF course and was actually a pretty good teacher, but the course made all the difference.

Ok everyone. I'm going to go model my new jacket again for my employees.... maybe I'll put on one of the pink sombrerros we got yesterday too. I'm in a bit of a silly mood and I need to go miss-behave....

    Kathy

  • Kathy a pink sombrerro, I haven't seen one in years. Sounds like fun. Congrats on the new riding gear. Yep DH should not teach us about the riding. Too crazy, mine tried to teach my best friend and when she dumped her brand new Harley in the drive way he was like that is it in the garage and to class with you. He never even attempted to teach me. He does like to correct my riding from time to time.

OK Chicks down another 2 lbs this week! And I went and bought a new pair of jeans in a size 12! Yipee! Down 7 sizes from where I started. Good to here from all of you! Keep on Keep'n on Chicks and happy hump day!
  • Guess who went home at lunch and rode her bike back to work.......... 6 months... it's been 6 months since I've ridden! I don't know what's worse though, not riding or riding to work and have my bike sitting outside waiting for me.... 2.5 hours until I go home......

Congrats on the 2lb loss HarleyMom!
  • I don't have the other half riding problem! He's scared of it! He won't even ride B****! And it's only a tiny little bike too! I think he's too sensible some days!

My gym session was GREAT last night! I got home so psyched

I've got double kickboxing today! I'd go to the gym at lunch, but I've got to get some go-juice and some fruit so I don't think I'll make it!

Keep on keeping on ladies - summer's just round the corner
  • Hey ladies!

Jules- I'm in the same boat as far as riding. I am still learning. I ride around my neighborhood. I started in the backyard and worked myself onto the street. I had never drove a stick before. So, shifting was a whole new concept for me. I still havent taken the MSF, but plan to soon. Just take your time. Be cautious, but not scared. My husband taught me the basics. Like how to make the motorcycle move, but he doesnt want me to learn any bad habits before I taked the MSF.

Gina/Jackie Greene Groupie- Yeah, I'll have to see where he's playing. May have to check him out...

Kathy- That's great that you found some new gear to match your bike.

Harley- Congrats on the weight loss! I hope that tomorrow I report a loss, too. A size 12!!! How exciting!

2fru- Your situation with DF is very untypical. Most the time the guys like to ride and women want nothing to do with it. Maybe someday you can talk him into a trike? Or a sidecar on your Rebel. LOL!!! I want a sidecar on mine, so I can take my puppy. LOL.

    Hi to Star, Holly, Jill!
  • Hi all uneventful day. I am having sinus issues. Sounds like you all are doing well Keep on Keep'n on chicks!
  • I did my double kickboxing last night, tonight is leg weights and and tomorrow morning is kickboxing again

Eating was good yesterday, today it promises to be good if I can keep out of the biscuits and chocolates I have surrounding me! I'm feeling like I have my mojo back again, I think I might've got the weekend sorted too - we're staying home Saturday and going to watch the marathon Sunday, now there's and incentive to eat well
  • Hey Chickies!

2Frus...I need some of your MOJO after the "weekend" I just had!
    Please Fed-Ex it to Florida.

Holy Crap, Chicks did I eat some food! Had a great ride to St. Augustine where we stayed on that boat....that was fun! We also got to view some of the other rooms at the Inn and picked out a couple for the next time we spend there. So much fun to just be 100 miles away from that awesome place! Yesterday we rode that gorgeous ride down A1A to Daytona. Man. The beach is right there most of the way and it was gorgeous yesterday! Weather was clear and nice along the beach but was HOT as **** as we came on inland. Summer is here EARLY and in a big way. I don't ever remember having to have the A/C on in April.

This morning I have a date with Tony & my Gazelle. Gotta get my mental thing going again before I can weigh myself. I'm afraid to get on the sale right now. Harley...you are my idol....size 12 jeans.....YAY!!!

Kathy.....please post a pic of your bad self in your new gear! We want to see!!!

Reb, Jules....when are you taking the MSF class? I'm scheduled for May 7. Heck....I'm such a total beginner! Am looking forward to it.

Have a great Friday and weekend Everyone!
  • It looks like it's going to be a rainy weekend so I am not sure if I will even get to ride on the back of the bike. I am getting really excited at the though of riding solo--I will try to not be afraid of the clutch.

Thanks for all the good suggestions...

Off to Slim-n-Tone (Curves type gym)!!
