Happy Monday everyone!

Darlene - thanks for the welcome! What exactly is the yoga/pilates challenge? I use to do yoga loyally and loved it but now all I do is walk the dog.

Jana - thanks also for the fun welcome! I can not help you on the garlic pills - sorry. I do put a lot of garlic in when I cook so I am sure I smell like garlic a lot! Maybe try to odor-less and do not tell Gerald and see if he notices?

Amarantha - Is today day 38 for you? That is fabulous! "tomato ice cream?" Really? Hmm...I think I may have to go back to my soy ice cream. No really, let me know if it is any good. I love tomatos. Do you go to the gym everyday?

Eydie - you are not going to believe this - I have been a veggie for 21 years too! I gave up meat when I was 14. I am now struggling to create a doable, healthy eating plan. I am trying to not eat so much bread (whole wheat) and more protein. I am trying to eat more cheese but it makes me kind of sick. Today, to ate veggie sausages for breakfast and cheese and beans in my salad for lunch but I do not feel great. I think I will experiment some this week to find what works for me. I think I may stick more to fruits and veggies doing the day and add some nuts and cheese for protein. How do you get your protein?

Hmmm, I think it's Day 37, Macon ... need to recheck my figures! Soy ice cream sounds great, actually, I may try making that. I love soymilk ... I go to the gym five to six days a week, sometimes a bit less ... not really sure about the tomato ice cream, but the recipe sounded good. In the summer, I make vege smoothies as I find it hard to eat vegetables.

Talking Jana ...

Thanks for the congratulations!!! I missed your post when I was on earlier ... was on an earlier page!!!!

I love this quote of yours: "Everyday thus far has been a marvelous one I feel so good I have had no desire to eat anything with refined sugar what a blessing that is not to pace the house looking for something that will satisfy me. ..."

Yup!

Well, ok, I must admit that I read a certain popular weekly "women's" mag ... it is so fun and relaxing. So this is not exactly the most scientific of sources, but I'd like to call attention to an item in Woman's World in a story about looking "years younger by avoiding ..." ... it says you can keep your skin young by cutting down on cakes, candy, cookies. "The sugar in them attaches to colagen resulting in stiff infexible skin that makes wrinkles deeper and more noticeable." (Laura Wise-Blau)

Well, one of the first things I noticed when I gave up sugar is that my face has changed ... several other folks noticed it, too. It looks better. I thought it was dental work that mayhap has changed the configuration or something, but I do know that after about a week on Sugar Busters, I lost a lot of puffiness in the face and I swear it looks less wrinkled!

Could be true!

Default Amarantha the Barer of Good News

Amarantha, It's good to know as the days go by we'll all look like we are teenagers again or at least early 30! and won't all our thin friends be green with envy .

That good news should give us all added Inspiration to stay with our plan and the thought of a new sexy you wardwrode.

Question when do I get to use color and the font I would like? As long as I'm dreaming Spell check would be nice to.

I bought grapes last night at the store I'm thinking it was not the best Idea I ever had. They just make you want more so go have a pickle!

Jan

Jana, I don't know the answers to your questions about garlic or the cornea transplant, but you can change the color of your font by highlighting your entire message then clicking on the "color" and selecting the color you desire. Amarantha may know a quicker way.

I am SO tired, ladies. And I actually binged on white flour stuff tonight. We went to Olive Garden for a late lunch and a dutifully ordered the whole wheat linguine, but then I ate 3 or 4 breadsticks. Then tonight I ate, well, it's too much to list here. Let's just say pizza was involved, and lots of it. I really want to eliminate white flour, or at least restrict it. For those of you who have eliminated it, did you go about the elimination in any particular way?

Oh, I also didn't do pilates today, but did do step aerobics. At work, I have an office yoga and pilates workout that I think I'll do tomorrow to make sure I get it in. Amarantha, are we aiming for everyday?

Hello there people. Can I join your thread? I found it surfing the forum one lonely evening when my usual threads had no action. Amarantha, remember me?! from the 21-day challenges? They were great! I used to always do NO SUGAR and that's really a large part of what got me realizing how great being off sugar is. Alas, recently I was back on full steam ahead knowing all along it was making the tires around my waist (or where it's supposed to be) bigger, dragging me down and making my face puffy and large-pored. OH yes, by the way, that is so true with the complexion! So anyhow, Lent rolled around and someone was doing something for Lent and I, though raised Catholic but no longer part of that, thought I'd do something too. So I gave up sugar along with three other of my favorite foods. So, it's two weeks to the day that I've been sugar-free and I love it! Although of course, I do love sweets. I don't allow any sweeteners either except for a bit of sugarless gum. So, anyhow, I'd love to be in here chatting with you. Eydie, you were on the 21er too I think, no, or was that another thread? So there are some familiar "faces" and some not, but heh, if you'll have me I'd love to hop aboard.

Talking Ha-Ha, we laugh in the face o' the DEMON!!!

Hi, all!!!! And welcome to Redballoon, whom I certainly do remember from the 21-day challenges. Always good to have new recruits "hop aboard" the Anti Sugar train!!!

Jana, re fonts, colors, etc., for me it's just faster to type in the codes.

Red grapes work out pretty well for me as far as blood sugar goes, so long as I eat 'em in small amounts and not with any other food. Not sure why that works, seems to, though. I like 'em for their portability. The white ones seem a bit too sweet at this point for me.

Gypsy my personal elimination of white flour was just a part of the whole Sugar Busters deal, so it was easy. The nice thing about eliminating both together is that there's NO way I'll ever be able to eat an EC (Evil Cupcake) again!!!! (CUPCAKES, HA! I LAUGH IN THEIR FACES!!!!).

Re the yoga/pilates challenge, well, it started as every day for a week! My walking pard isn't doing it, though, but just the little I've been doing has helped me get back some peace and flexibility. I'm thinkin' it's the "cupcake" o' the exercise world ... raisin' endorphins 'n all that!!!! Congrats, though on getting that aerobics in, very important! Maybe everyone here could come up with their personal exercise challenge that could be used as an endorphin boostin' alternative to the "sugar" high!

I'm on Day 38!

As E saith, we are all using different approaches here but all are on the same page: THE SUGAR FREE PAGE O' THE BOOK O' A GREAT LIFE!!!!! Huzzah! Sis boom 'n bah ...

Hi everyone,

I received an invitation to join all of you from Amarantha, who I "met" on another diet website.

I have gotten most of the sugar out of my diet, I Somersized quite a few years ago, and even though I'm off that program, I still have avoided most added sugars, except for bread. It wasn't until I read an article in the Feb. issue of Prevention Magazine about high fructose corn syrup that I've started reading labels more closely.

Jana, I read your question about changing colors on your posts. If you click onto "USER CP", click on change options, scroll down until you see "Miscellaneous Options". Click on the arrow and other options will appear. Click on "Enhanced Interface" The next time you post, to change colors, all you have to do is click on the underlined "A" and you can pick whatever color you want. It will also be easier to change the script and size of the letters.

Amarantha, I'm heading out this morning to find the Sugar Buster Books. I can't thank you enough for all the help you gave me. I have a feeling that this is the plan for me.

I hope I will be welcomed to post here. I'm looking forward to meeting you all.

Take care and have a good day.
Ali

Welcome, RedBaloon! I certainly do remember you!

For the Pilates/yoga challenge, I did 25 minutes of Pilates + my treadmill workout and dumbells. Hope to do both yoga and Pilates today. Time will tell....

Who asked me about protein? I think it was Macon? Yes! 'Cause it was about veg. protein; I use soy products of all kinds, eggs, cheese [I try to use mostly the reduced-fat cheeses], whey protein powder, beans and grains. I'm sure there's more--I'll add as I think of them. That's cool, Macon, that you were a vegetarian at 14. I waited till the ripe old age of 21!

Darlene, in many ways I think that white flour is almost as bad as white sugar. Always gives me that same 'more, more' feeling, even when it's not that good. Good job with the ww pasta though!

GOOD MORNING TO ALL!

WELCOME REDBALLON & ALI

Thank You Amarantha & Darlene for tips on font & colorI was choosing my font and color first.

Gonging to the Olive Garden could temp the him self Darlene, I love bread and if I had one breadstick I’d have to have another.

It’s wonderful to see the sunrise earlier every day in north east Michigan.

Tomorrow I have an appointment with the second cornea transplant Doc. they want to do a new procedure that dose not have a code. I do not think my insurance with cover that. I hope we set a date to have some kind of transplant surgery. I will be thankful to have my vision restored in my right eye and to be able to drive safely again and to be able to read a book and not always have get books on tapes and Cds.

Last night Gerald was surfing the chanels and stopped at fit TV he found a low carb chef cooking show. If you go to Blaine's Low Carb Kitchen Recipies Index you will find a list of shows and menus, on the second page there is a low carb pizza recipe that sound easy to make and good to eat.

Jan

Default Low Carb Stuffed Pizza

Low Carb Stuffed Pizza

3/4 cup olive oil to fry
6 low carb tortillas
1 - 14.5 oz. can diced tomatoes
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. fresh cracked pepper
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tbsp. Parmesan cheese
1 8 oz. bag pre-shredded Italian Blend Cheese
48 slices pre-cut pepperoni

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Stack tortillas and puncture with a fork about a dozen times. Fry low carb tortillas one at a time in about 1 tbsp. olive oil in a 10" nonstick pan over medium high heat until brown and crisp. Repeat adding 1 tbsp. olive oil to pan until all tortillas are brown and crisp. Make sure you cook tortillas on both sides then drain on paper towels. Season tomatoes with Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Put three tortillas on cookie sheets. Spread 2 tablespoons of tomatoes on each tortilla and top with 1/4 cup grated cheese and 6-8 pieces of pre-cut pepperoni. Top 3 made pizzas with 3 other tortillas and repeat with sauce, cheese and pepperoni. You will have a total of 3 stuffed pizzas. Cook on cookie sheets in preheated oven for 10 minutes. Cut each pizza in half and serve.

Yields 6 servings - approximately 10 net carbs per each serving

Good morning, All! I've come down with a cold, after a desperately frantic work week - "90 mph with our hair on fire" is how the site editor described it. I should have made an extra effort to take care of myself to counteract the stress. When will I learn I've been almost entirely free of sugar/white stuff since I joined up here (don't remember exactly when), but some days going too carb-heavy and some days eating slumped on the couch (which almost inevitably leads me to eat more than I would sitting at the table). So I'm aiming to address those two issues. Think I'm going to call this Day 1, always nice to get a fresh start...

Amarantha, I am CERTAIN you're right about the skin thing. I think that sugar makes the skin kind of shrivel up on the surface. I can always see a huge difference when I'm eating clean.

Eydie, I know what you mean about the "more" feeling. I find too many carbs in general, even if "legal" ones make me feel hungry all day -- yesterday was a case in point: I made whole rye/ buckwheat biscuits for breakfast and kept munching on them all day. I'm sure partially because I allowed myself to eat on the couch, too. I do have a couple of big containers of lentil soup in the fridge, and that's where I intend to turn today.

Going to try to take it easy till I feel better, work a little, clean house a little, exercise a little, rest in between times. Let's make it a good one!

Hi, Arabella! Welcome Redballoon and Ali! You know, I hadn't noticed until you mentioned it, Amarantha, but my skin does look a lot better! Jana, thanks for the pizza recipe--I'm looking forward to trying it.

I used my crockpot for the first time yesterday. I made a lentil and brown rice dish and had some this morning topped with plain yogurt. It was scrumptious! I'm thinking this might be a nice alternative to my usual eggs and whole grain toast. My goal is to go today without any white flour. I don't think I want to eliminate it altogether, but reduce it, and if that doesn't work, elminate it for a month. Maybe by then I won't want it, but one of my favorite Lebanese foods is made with white flour. i'll have to see if there's a way to make it with whole wheat flour.
