Morning! I've not read any posts since my last visit.... so please forgive my lack of personalized replies. I will catch up and then post one of my novels!

Yesterday my friend and I moved nearly all of my junk to the new classroom. I made it home in time to cook dinner! Yeaaaa! Took a shower after dinner and sat down on my bed to go thru the mail.....I woke up this morning! Today it is pouring rain and windy. Both schools are still on their summer schedules so they close at noon. I've decided NOT to try to move the remainder of junk in this mess! I've gone through the notebook of forms that I need to submit to the new payroll dept, I've made a shopping list, I'm saying hello to my online friends...and then I'm thinking that I'm gonna go back to bed until around noon! My back hurts. My head feels as if I have a hangover! This has been quite a week!

Yesterday I did go to HR and sign the contract and do all the legal stuff... I had huge issues with the fingerprinting.... I told the poor lady telling me to "RELAX this arm. RELAX this finger..." that I guess it is obvious that I'm not familiar with the fingerprinting techniques...WHICH is a good thing! It was like having to BREATHE NORMALLY for the doctor!

enough babble.... I hope all is well with everyone! Anyone else excited about the olympics starting? What a great distraction!

take care

Afternoon Ladies,
I made it through my math inservice without falling asleep. But wish I had just stayed home and caught up on my sleep. But atleast people can't say that I didn't make the effort. I did get some goodies from my special ed. supervisor though. I got a medium size box full of paper supplies and then a duffel bag full of pencils, pens, crayons, stickers, box of tissues, and etc. I guess the tissues are for our tears of joy at seeing our kids for the first couple of days and then for those tears of frustation when we are banging our heads against the wall because the kids are misbehaving or not grasping the concepts being taught. LOL Then I came home paid bills and got a quick lesson in how to check my oil in my van from my dh. I then came on line to check in with you and go through our email messages. Tonight I have to go workout at Curves and then go over to the high school track down the street from Cuvres to walk for the Relay. I only collected $30. But I also donated 3 bikes and 2 ball gloves for their yard sale. So I don't feel so bad. I am hoping to get a nap in here shortly.
Robyn I hope that you were able to go back to bed for a while. I know how it feels to change schools and get all the things ready for the move to the new one. I feel for you honey! (((hugs))) Hopefully this weekend you can relax a little bit.
Ginny your dh sounds like mine. He asked about work and then when you tell him about it, he gets mad about how we have to deal with stuff or how we are treated by parents and the admins. He is always giving me his helpful advice and then gets made when I don't go along with it. He worked in factories and goes on that experience and it is just a tad different with our line of work. I hope you were able to run through your route okay today.
Mouse I think is great that you are adding weights to your workout. That will boost up your meb. and help with your weight loss again. Keep us posted on how you are doing.
Summer hope you were able to get all your chores done today. Another BBQ huh? Sounds like fun. When are you going to have one for us?LOL
Well I am going to go and take a nap. This early mornings are killers. I don't know how I am going to get use to getting up around 6 again for the first couple of weeks.
Take care.
Kerry

I've graduated from acupuncture. I liked it. Am I weird or what? The doctor examined me, adjusted my back, and did electrical stimulation. I have to try to schedule follow-up appointments, two a week, over the next couple of weeks. I have no availability between all the other appointments I am slipping in before school starts, last of the summer play dates, and getting my room ready. At least I am mostly healed. I still have slight lower back pain and that "pins and needles" going down my left leg some of the time. It is waaaaay better than it was after we returned from Disneyworld.

My room is coming together, but I still have a lot to do. I have to say, the new custodian sure works a lot harder than the old one (who I adored!). My room is a lot cleaner than I've ever seen...without me being the one to do the cleaning.

Robyn, congratulations on signing your new contract! Did the old school find you a replacement? Hopefully you will be free of jury duty and can just concentrate on beginning a new chapter in your career.

Ginny, photographing students? That gave me chills. I bet there is a lot going on that the general public never finds out about. It makes me want to quit my job and homeschool my DD.

Kerry, I'm so not ready to go to inservices again. I look forward to teaching again, but all those meetings and workshops, yuck! It is gonna be such a rude awakening for me when school starts for me in eleven days. I'm sure we all feel the same way.

Mousie, you make me not want to give up. This is what 3 fat chicks is about...people like you inspiring people like me. Thanks.

Hi, all!
Kerry: I know how that goes with the inservices. When I started in Fairfax County, they had two inservices for new staff. One for HR and benefits, and then another for curriculum. They divided us up by elementary and secondary. I'm secondary, so when we did the curriculum one, as the mild MR teacher, I was told to go to the curriculum ones in the morning for regular ed or LD, and then moderate/severe disabilities in the afternoon. Our kids, as you know, fall into both categories! The LD curriculum staff didn't know what to do with me. They had so many new teachers coming in, they didn't have enough space! After being asked to leave math, English and Science, I went and found the MR Specialist, and went to the moderate/severe disabilities one and they let me leave in the afternoon. What a waste! But, you got goodies: I did too, I managed to snag first choice of some beautiful stuff including the TouchMoney kit, talking calculators, and Mayer-Johnsons Fromt he Classroom to the Workplace books.
Robyn: I, too, had fingerprint issues. Pennsylvania doesn't require teachers to be fingerprinted unless the district requires it. None of my inner city districts ever did. But I had to have it done FOUR times in Maryland: Baltimore City, Baltimore County, my current school, and the summer camp I worked at. You'd think I was a career criminal! None of the agencies will accept fingerprinting done by other people... So I had it done twice in Virginia: Fairfax County and Arlington! Some time, I'll tell you about my security clearance and file with the feds... Its because of my Red Cross work. I did the 2000 inaugeration, and the Pentagon response.
Summer: Thanks. I'm not sure what I said, honestly. I'm sort of depressed at the moment to be honest. I spent my morning in the gym: lifted weights, managed a half a mile on the bike (quite an accomplishment given my ankle!), and swam for an hour. Then I spent the afternoon calling plastic surgeon's offices and searching the Internet for information about the pannus removal. I had another surgeon's office try to refer me to a urologist; I had one office turn me down without an appointment because they said they'd never been able to get insurance approval for the procedure and didn't feel like trying. I really liked the first office I spoke with, the lady was extremely nice and very caring... but that office doesn't have any appointments till October 18. I wasn't as happy with the other two, but was able to get an appointment in early Sept. for one, and late Sept. for the other. The insurance company information was very disenhartening though: NONE of the companies that I found will pay for the procedure unless you have a pannus that is causing significant disruption of daily living (IE, inability to walk), skin rashes and hygiene issues. So, like, if I stopped washing and stopped going to the gym, in 6 months I might get approval. The only place that said they approved it was Mississippi's Dept. of Medicaid, and they didn't require prior approval. Why can't other insurance companies trust their doctors?
I don't see how I'm ever going to get this surgery approved. I'm apparently a unique case.... And, really, I'm getting tired of being unique!
And, I think it was Ginny... sorry if I am wrong... but somebody told me not to worry about becoming muscle bound. But, while I doubt its one of the significant worries, I do need to watch it. Part of my endocrine disorder is elevated testosterone... and the meds I take to lower it are probably the biggest culprit in making me sick most of the time. Yet, despite the meds, I still have enough of an elevation to have it show up as "significant" on the lab reports. Which is one of the reasons I'm more likely to increase time or reps than weight.

Just a quick update...

I had my hair colored back to my natural dirty blonde tonite. It took 3 1/2 hours! I sure look different. DD was shocked when she saw me and said she wanted her real mommy. I will definitely have to start wearing make-up to pull this look off. Normally, I put on some blush and pale pink lipstick and look good. I only put on eye make-up for special occasions. But with my dark hair, (to brunettes it isn't dark, but when you are used to platinum, dirty blonde seems dark!) I look so pale. Every time I've passed by a mirror, it has bothered me, so I pulled it up in a ponytail...it is less obvious when pulled away from my face. When I walked in the door, I told my DH, "This is love you are looking at...love and sacrifice." He damn well better appreciate what I am giving up so I can help him pay his bills.

When I saw my gastroenterologist earlier in the month, remember I had bloodwork done by a vampire? Well the results came back very good. My liver enzymes are still elevated showing a fatty liver, however, they have lowered since a year ago. So, either eating lowfat, milk thistle extract, or both are working. It is a relief that I am making progress.

We are watching opening ceremonies right now, and DD freaked out. Before the countries started coming out, and Athens was making their presentation, DD was terrified of the costumes especially the statues. She said, "this is not for children...children shouldn't see this in their homes...parent guidance rating." It really disturbed her!

I probably won't have time to post till Sunday. Have a good weekend! Stay dry!

Well ladies just a quick note to let you know that I made it through the rest of my day. I went to Curves and worked out before going over to the relay for life. I walked for 1/2 hour. Then I worked the tent for a little bit. I did walk some more laps and passed out free trial membership cards to some of the ladies. So when I came home at 11:30, my dh asked me where I had been. I guess he sat at home waiting on me to come home so we could go do something. I told him that I had been at the relay enjoying the activities. He was not happy that he sat at home waiting on me to get home. But I really don't feel bad since that is how my whole summer has been like. Now that it is getting close to school starting he wants to spend time with me and do things with me. Sorry I really don't have the time for him if he doesn't speak up and say anything until after the fact. Well I am tired so I think I will head off to bed. Talk to you all tomorrow, before I jet set off to my sister's for an over night visit.
Have a wonderful day!
Kerry

Well, all...
I think I've mentioned before that I'm a volunteer for the Red Cross. I do disaster services. I'm not allowed to go to local fires anymore, because of my ankle; most of the row homes around here have lots of stairs, and I have too many issues with stairs to be comfortable in the dark after a fire. So, I dispatch. That means I sit at home and the answering service pages me and I send out teams to the local fires.
I also do national response, and I'm a mass care specialist there. I usually do shelters, but lately they've been using me back at the administrative location for the job because of my computer skills. I've also been known to do family services casework, and administrative stuff (more computer work). I used to do communications, but I never did learn how to run a phone line. And while I have computer skills, they're almost all software related: I can't pull cable and run lines, so I don't do computer operations for them.
Anyhoo... I'm a jinx. When we had the blizzard in Baltimore in 2003, I was dispatcher that weekend. If something WEIRD is going to happen, it'll happen while I'm dispatching. Last night, we had a call where the clients turned out to be transvestites. When Hurricane Isabel hit, I was scheduled to be dispatcher, and did dispatch for a bit that weekend/evening, but I was also a shelter manager at two different shelters before National came in and I was assigned to that job.
This weekend, it appears Charley is going to come visit. My weather alert keeps going off with Hurricane Local Statements... we currently have 9 active national weather service alerts for my zip code. Mostly flood warnings, flash flood watches, and now 2 Hurricane statements. And boy, am I being TEASED by our local team coordinator!

I was going to try and sneak out to the gym with the pager: I figured I could lift weights and do some bike even though I can't swim because I can't have the pager in the pool! Guess not... its going to be a busy weekend!!! I'm going to try and go downstairs to the gym in our building later tonight (when its assuredly empty, as the only people who seem to use the gym in my building are the police officers or the neat, fit women!).

Glad you missed all of Charley but the rain, Robyn! My day was decidedly unproductive. All I accomplished was answering the pager. Everytime I tried to do something else, it went off... Oh, and I stood on a street corner in Baltimore City too! Some volunteers ran out of paperwork, and they had to go past my apartment building to get where they needed to be, so they stopped and grabbed it from me on the way. That was fun! I'm definitely the wrong sex and the wrong everything to be standing on a street corner in MY part of Baltimore City!
One lady told me I was "gonna be 'rrested because yous standin' in front of the stablishment, and don't ya see that sign!!!!!!" She was trying to pick a fight, I think, because she got in it with somebody else a bit farther up the block. Another guy called me sweetheart and told me I was beautiful. O:-)
I never made it to my gym, and both times I ventured out of the apartment I was paged back inside within moments for something... so I didn't get to the gym on the 2nd floor here either. Do you suppose standing on a street corner counts as exercise???? At least I didn't have time to eat!!!!

Robyn, I'm glad you weren't too affected by Charley. Watching the path he was taking, it looked like you were gonna be hammered. Our only excitement from Charley was a neighbor's tree that ended up lying across both lanes of our road, so the cops had to divert traffic until it was taken care of.

Yesterday morning it was sunny, so I decided to go on with the BBQ. As the day went on, it was still sunny, but people started calling and cancelling left and right. At 3pm, when it was supposed to begin, it started to rain! About 20 minutes later, our first guests arrived. By 4pm, it had stopped raining, so I dried off the furniture, lit the torches and candles, and put out the cushions and placemats. The kids ended up being able to swim. We had a great time. We were really enjoying the couple because they were really down to earth. Then they told us that he has been offered a job in England, and will probably be moving. It seems that whenever we really like a family and connect with them, they move. The same old stuck-up a**holes never go anywhere! Anyway, all was going well, then another family arrived 3 hours late. The little girl is a real brat, and got all the kids upset. There went that. The rest of the night kind of sucked. The people we really like left, and the rude ones stayed and wouldn't leave!

The weather is still pretty bad, so I will probably take DD to the movies.

Kerry, I really like your new attitude. It is very entertaining. How does it feel to be empowered?

Mousie, transvestites huh? I have a friend who is a counselor with a rape crisis center and gets called to meet victims at the hospital. She sees things that most people would never imagine.

Hi Ginny!

Hi!
Just a quick hello- Dd's boyfriend is due here soon....and Ds is complaining cause of all the stuff we had to buy last nite for his sister's college attendance......they think it grows on trees.....hope they aren't complainin' cause I took on 4 hours of work on Wednesday to help pay all these bills (freshman orientation, some of the regulars can't make it, so I am substituting).

Anyway.....
Kerry- hope your visit is pleasant and refreshing!!!!! Guess you went by yourself.
Come back safely and renewed!

Mouse- well, you crack me up with the transvestite story. Some people have a knack for getting in those binds, and I am one of them also. Just ask my family..... Hugs to you for being a volunteer.

Summer- too bad about the BBQ. Stinks that you connected with that family only to find out they were short timers. (had that happen to me too! for a while all my friends upped and moved away.....felt like typhoid Mary!). Sorry about the bratty kiddies and that the day went downhill. Keep the good memories of the earlier part, when it was fun. Have you gotten used to your hair? We love you no matter what color your hair is, and I am sure that your family does too.

Robyn- glad that Charley was not too bad where you live. You were in my thoughts a lot yesterday and I was concerned for your welfare. Glad you are ok!! Well, welcome to the database of fingerprints. Here in NY (land of the regulation) all school employees and regular volunteers are fingerprinted and in a national registry with the FBI. How exciting is that?????!!! How you are feeling better after the backache.

My eating is all messed up.......just can't seem to stay OP. I am also retaining water, my buddy TOM is just around the corner. Joy of joys. Kids are getting bored and with the wonderful weather that Charlie has left us, going outside is not an option.
Fortunately, Dh is in a pretty good mood- and actually apologized for being Attila the Hun the other morning. We snuck off this am and went to the early church service alone........it was such a treat.
Guess I'd better go.....Sorry to be short......probably tomorrow I will be going to the surgeon with my Dm for the basal cell on her head. My sister is east- mom does not want her accompanying her (she is not the most stable of individuals).
Gotta go! Hope everyone is having a good weekend.......only a few days before the merry go round begins.
Ginny

Yes, all, transvestites. None of my other calls so far today were quite as interesting. Lots and lots of inquiry requests for family members who were in Florida or Georgia. I think that the disaster chair (paid staff) finally took them because the answering service was sick of paging me for them. I didn't mind getting them, but it was much quieter today without them.
Had a few minor issues with volunteer teams running out of necessary paperwork: I'm going to have to go over to the chapter tomorrow to deal with that one. We use forms that are like blank checks. The clients use those to get the emergency supplies that they need... food, clothing, temporary housing. But, because they are like checks, they are signed out to specific people and guarded closely. I'm sure I'll hear about it tomorrow because I gave my forms to a volunteer yesterday... and another volunteer gave hers to a team today! Oh well!
And because of all this, I missed the gym AGAIN. I might still make it to the one in our building but I really need to get going on those voc eval reports. I still have 13 to do and said I'd be done by Monday. I put off doing them last week because I needed some time off from work, but figured I'd be stuck inside all weekend and get them done, and didn't.

Yet another rainy rainy rainy day! But we are very thankful to not be living what is going on in Florida right now! Thanks for all the good wishes and prayers! The rain will eventually stop! No court tomorrow! I have plans for finishing moving the last of the boxes to the new room....RAIN or shine!

Mousie, maybe they weren't REALLY transvestites at all.... maybe they were patients of that doctor's who you called .... you know the one.... where they were going to treat you for a disorder that has caused you to grow a P&N!s!!!!! Maybe THAT is what has caused those girls to appear to be "sweet transvestites in TranselBaltimoreee"! I hope you could hear the FrankenFurter voice I used to sing that! I am glad that your life on the street corner was a success....and that you have been reformed and have returned your beautiful self back to the protection of your apartment! Get those reports done, girlie! How's the hand?!

Ginny ~ You got an apology?! Gotta love THAT! My dh has FINALLY (underline that!) put up the boards in that bathroom that I painted (above the tub enclosure....) He actually had the nerve to tell me to go to Lowe's to get something (it is 20 minutes away!) to finish the job. I told him that it had waited THIS long.... that I'd stop tomorrow when I go up that way and finish the job tomorrow night.... ARGHH! Let me jump right up and into the car and RUN to get what he wants. Hang in there with the eating and TOM fun! All of this junk will pass!

Summer ~ Glad that you got your BBQ in.... BUT sorry to hear that the good time was was ruined by the TardyFamily! (Don't invite them over anymore if they don't have enough sense to leave when it is over OR control their monster kid!) How's the hair?! Once you get used to seeing it dark, it will be ok.... I spend wayyyy too much money on my hair upkeep....and I'm with you.... It would HAVE to be the FIRST thing cut from the checkbook if need be! (((hugs))) and *sighs* right along with you! (Is your favorite color something that you can maintain at home by yourself? (just an idea!) (I can't ......what a disaster I'd make it!) I might have missed it....but I was wondering how your husband's health is since his earlier summer problems?! Did he get ok?!

Kerry ~ Hope that you've enjoyed your visit with your sister! I'm soooo glad that you got to your concert finally! AND I *LOVED* that your dh was sitting home waiting for you for a change (when you were at Relay for Life)! I'm so mean, aren't I?!

WELL.... my dh is leaning over my shoulder wanting to know what 3fatchicks is....and why I'm talking about transvestites.... I'd better go before he asks for his own nickname! LOL Now I've got those stupid RHPictureShow songs stuck in my head!

....it's just a jump to the left!......
take care!

Okay... I've stopped laughing long enough to respond to Robyn! ROFL! ROFL! :giggle:
And yes, I'm sure the entire city of Baltimore is greatful that I've retired from my life of ill-repute. At least for a brief while!
The hand is fine, though that little brat tried to add another injury to the first one when I wouldn't let him play with with the cords to my earphones.

Oh... no... no... I hear more fire engines. I'm throwing the pager out the window! There is a whole bunch of them.
