I'm glad you didn't delete this, Am, because it gives me a chance to actually think about why I started all this in the first place.

1. I'll be better able to age gracefully if I'm at a healthy weight and have healthy habits.

2. More clothing choices.

3. My clothes will fit better and I won't have to constantly wonder if everything's covered. More confidence naked, for that matter!

4.feeling of accomplishment

5.'wiggle room' if I do gain a bit of weight

6.More energy!

7.More self-esteem!

8.The more healthy habits I cultivate the more motivated I am to follow thru.

9.I can possibly be helpful to others--to show that it can be done.

10. Did I mention more energy and confidence?!

Hi..

I'm a 'newbie' on this site..

I have lost 20 lbs following the Change One (Readers Digest) plan.. but now have cut the cord; my subscription there is up at the end of July and I decided to save the $ for other things.
I lost slowly over about 9 months..got married in April of this year, upon returning from the honeymoon in mid-May, I broke my left foot! ACK! So much for exercise!
I am healing well according to the Dr. and have been using my stationary bike and /or doing pool exercises. I think I did pretty well, gaining only about 2 lbs throughout all this!
I ALSO turned 54 just before the foot incident and I'm determined to lose another 30 (40?) lbs.

Reasons as follows:

1. I'm a type2 diabetic and want to avoid health complications from that disease including
2. Heart diease, high blood pressure, eye problems blah blah blah.
3. After limping around for a month TRUST ME I want to STAY mobile for the
rest of my life, not sit on my butt watching the world pass me by.
4. I am told that I don't look 54 (whatever that means, I guess society thinks
that after 40 you're a hag and after 50 you're just DEAD.) Anyway I want
to look as youthful and vital as possible because if I look good--I feel good.
5. My new husband is a little younger than I am and doesn't look his age
either.. just what I need to keep me motivated.
6. I feel SO much better after having lost 20 lbs.. I am trying to imagine how
GREAT I'm gonna feel when I get to my Ultimate Goal.
7. I love clothes. I love to shop
8. Who wants to spend $ on medications in later life?
9. Ditto for staying out of a nursing home and hospital.
10. My birth mother died when she was younger than I am now; I want to
WEAR out not RUST out!

=) Chris

reasons to reach my goal:
1-more self-confidence
2-improve my general health as much as is possible
3-want to look better in clothes
4-better self-esteem
5-will feel great about following through on this major effort
6-want to enjoy (not dread) shopping for clothes
7-when need to use my wheelchair, want it to be as easy on the person pushing me as is possible, anyway.
8-want to decrease back pain (or keep at status quo, at least) as much as is possible.
9-this is a tangible goal which reminds me that if i really work hard enough for something, i can attain it.
10-will be nice to not wince when asked my weight.

Hi.
My reasons for wanting to lose this excess weight are:
1) I don't want to have a heart attack at 45 like my dad
2) I want to have better overall health
3) Better posture
4) I want to have more energy
5) I would like to put on a bathing suit and not feel like a beached whale
6) I don't want to jiggle anymore when I walk down the hallway.
7) I want to be able to run and play at the park with my niece and not be out of breath in the first 2 minutes
8) I want to be able to walk up 3 flights of stairs and not feel like I am going to collapse
9) I am sick of wearing clothes that are ugly
10) I don't want to cry anymore when I look in the mirror. I want to be able to smile and say, "I look good!!"

1. I don't want to end up fat and unhealthy like the rest of my family.
2. I want my body to be healthy for the time that I decide to have children.
3. I want to be a good example for my children and teach them how to stay healthy.
4. I want to look good in a bathing suit, or anything else, or nothing!
5. I want all of those guys that turned me down to kick themselves for passing me up!
6. I don't want to run out of breath climbing a single flight of stairs.
7. I want to be able to shop in the regular section of the clothing stores--maybe even the jr's section--and wear cute, sexy clothes like the rest of the girls in my age group (I'm 24).
8. I don't want to miss out on my life because I'm too embarrassed to go out.
9. I want the self-confidence to get me through social and professional situations without worrying that I'm going to be rejected because of my weight/looks.
10. I need to prove to myself that I can do whatever I set my mind to. Even if it does take me a few tries (or more). Never give up.

THANK you! i can SO relate to this...

my 10 reasons:

1. i want my hubby to see the "skinny" me
2. i want to be able to go anywhere, without feeling like people are staring at me
3. i shouldn't have to pay $100+ dollars for a cute, stylish outfit that a skinny girl can buy for $50!!!!
4. i want to be able to take a walk without my hip/knees/back hurting
5. the next time i go to the doctor, i want to hear him say that i'm doing well, instead of "you need to lose weight" (duh! )
6. i don't want people to immediately recognize me at my 10 year high school reunion (especially ex-boyfriends and those notorious jerky guys *tee hee*)
7. i want to eliminate future pregnancy complications due to being overweight
8. i want to be able to find clothing and costume patterns that are "my size" without having to do a bunch of funky alterations (any other cosplayers around here?? )
9. i've got my eyes on a really cute outfit as a reward
10. i want to beat my sister-in-law at the weight loss thing... (sorry, it's a bit of a personal grudge... but it makes for great motivation! )
