Hi All,

Catlover --I am so very sorry about you appeals not being successful. I just started the South Beach program on Monday and the one thing I like best about it you don't have to journal or count points. I even served their "mashed potato" recipe this evening. They are so simple to make. I took a bag of frozen cauliflower and cooked it in the microwave for about 8 minutes. I then purried it in my food processor. All you add is 1 oz. of I Can't Believe It's Butter Spray and 1 oz. of 1/2 and 1/2. You're supposed to use fat free but I used the regular. They not only look like mashed potatoes but they taste like them too. I also had about a 4 oz. chicken breast. And my dessert is Ricotta cheese w/cocoa powder, vanilla, a few pecans and my 1 heaping spoonful of peanut butter.

I really need to stick to this program because Monday I go for my last training at the Arena and I will be working the concert next Friday so I most definitely have to button my vest.

Mooz -- Thanks for your words of wisdom about exercising. It really makes you think of what can be done to get in better health.

If anyone else is doing South Beach, let me know and we share some food plans.

Take care,
Anita

I wore my new pedometer yesterday for the first time and I could hardly believe it when I reached 27433 steps at the end of the day. I can account for 16000 because I went for four 2 mile walks. Apart from the walking all I was doing yesterday was housework (meant to do more) and grocery shopping etc., It is hard to believe that I did over 11000 steps just ‘doing nothing much’
I did think that maybe it wasn’t working properly as it is only a basic pedometer and cannot be adjusted to the length of my stride but I did a little test on it. I walked around the house counting my steps and checked it at 100 and it was exactly right. DH thought I was going mad because he asked me what I was doing but I couldn’t answer him right away as I was counting!!
I like my new toy and I will try to do at least 10000 steps every day.
Mind you having said that it is now 1.10pm and I have only just reached 1000 today so far!!
Now if I could cut down a bit more on the eating maybe I could lose this bit of extra weight that has been plaguing me for 20 years now.
Why can’t I just do it once and for all? I know I would feel so much happier and confident if I looked better in my clothes.
I hate it in the very hot weather when I can’t cover up my bigger bits!!
I hate getting hot and sweaty when I am out walking in very warm weather.
I hate it when I go shopping and try on new clothes and look at myself in the mirror. I know then just how fat I really am!
I especially hate those lumps of fat around my middle! I want a slim waist ……… I can’t remember ever having one!
My boobs are too big!!
My bum is not too bad you know …………. must be all that walking.
So what I need to do is figure out how to get rid of the fat around my middle and get my boobs smaller ……….. any suggestions anyone?

Get inside

Dive into your problems. Once inside, you'll find lots of things you can do to get through them.
If you run from them or just stare angrily at them, the problems can seem overwhelming. Yet the closer you get, the more clearly you'll know how to handle them.

If your day is not going so well, identify one clear, specific thing that would make it better. Then go to work and make it happen.

You won't get anywhere by moaning about how rough life is. Yet when you get inside the troubles, you'll find plenty of things you can do to change them for the better.

A big problem with problems is that they cloud your thinking by appearing more troublesome than they really are. Decide to look clearly and confidently at them, and you've already begun to triumph.

Get inside the problems, and there's plenty you can do. Get inside the problems, and you'll find them filled with opportunities.

Mornin' Chicks~~ Have a few quiet minutes this morning and thought i'd at least say HI.

MOOZ~~~ tough to just lose weight in certain spots. I think they say you can spot exercise to tone some certain areas, but i know when i do lose weight i lose it in the boobs, so there is hope! That must have been funny w/your DH watching you stomp all around the room with your new pedometer! They can't figure us out can they?? LOL

1DAY~~ Simon & Garfunkel! You are lucky to see them. Let us know how it was! My DH and I are going to see Eric Clapton soon. That will be awesome also.
And ~~NITA~~ you are so very lucky with this new job at the arena. Who was it you just said you will be working at? I know it sounded good to me.
Keep up the good work with South Beach. I know you will be buttoning that vest soon.
You and Mooz are our most determined of our boards. I just don't have it right now. I know i can get it off, but keeping it off seems totally impossible. It seems now i'm just satisfied where i am.

Dishes are calling. My mom is coming here with 4 more kids, we've had one nephew (9 yrs old) for 2 nites now, and he is really happy to fish-fish-fish. He loves his Uncle and needs the guy time cause his dad is the absent (a$$****) one and does not see them at all right now. Well, i won't go there this morning. There should be nice fireworks tonight and i guess we are going to try to take 2 cars to take all the kids to see it. Talk to you all later!

Hi Everyone,

Thin -- It is the Glendale Arena, the new one which about 10 minutes from my house. Chris, our supervisor, finally called on Wed. to schedule my final training on Monday at 3:00. He said that way I can be one of the workers for the Sarah McLauglin concert on Friday. I am just hoping Clay Aiken comes back this way on his "solo" tour.

Mooz -- Good job -- walking all those steps, that is truly amazing. Yesterday we were able to bowl two hours for free through one of our local radio stations and my two friends and I bowled a total of 4 games. They gave out a lot of prizes such as car washes, free games of bowling, movie passes, etc. It was a lot of fun and, of course, some good exercise. Today I am going to attend the Healthy Living Anti-Aging Show at one of our plush resorts--The Wigwam. They are having a lot of excellent speakers on many different topics and they have over 65 exhibitors. Perhaps I will learn something I can pass along. One of the speakers is speaking on "weight loss."

As far as the South Beach diet is concerned, the last couple of days I have had very bad indigestion and so this morning I decided to go to Phase Two which allows some fruit and cereal. I was getting burned out on eating all those eggs. Since Monday I have lost a total of 3-1/2 lbs.--so it does work, and I have lost my craving for carbs.

Well I had better get moving and learn what I can from this Healthy Living Show.

Take care all and have a "fabulous" weekend!

Anita

Hey Everyone...!

Just a quick hello, welcome back to THIN...!

Mooz: That is a LOT of steps girl. Your heart is healthy, it has to be. Two
four mile walks in one day. Oh my gosh.

Nita: You make me laugh, and oh by the way... button that vest!

OneDay: You will love the S & G concert. I have a friend that sent me a CD set of their Atlanta concert last December - incredible. Lucky you!

Cat: I make no gurantees, but still say try a pair of Birks. They are my only shoe of choice. Best first purchase would be from QVC. They offer a 100% money back gurantee for 30 days if you do not like them. It takes about that long to really break a pair of them in however.

Michellez: Bet you are busy with your company and decorating the new home? How is DHs job search?

Gotta go... it is HOT here today.

Oh, I did well on my final. I actually got all of the math part. You have no idea what a feat that is. I felt like I was floating all the way home, I did not get math in high school or college - at the graduate level and I get it, so some of us are late bloomers!

Default RE: Respect, Find out what it means to me... !

R-E-S-P-E-C-T, oh sock it to me, sock it to me, sock it to me...!!!

But seriously now folks, I have the news on and they have just reported that Bush declined a request to speak at the national NAACP convention. His reason he gave, they have not treated him with respect. Guess most teachers across the USA can/may/will/should refuse to teach their classes too.

How, h-o-w, do we get there from here, if we don't work together? Duh.....

Anyway, enough already I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Hi Mooz and HalGal,

It's great to hear from both of you! Well I went to the Anti-Aging Healthy Living Show and I spent over 4 hours walking around there and visiting all the different booths. It truly was very interesting and I did meet some very interesting folks. As far as the South Beach program is concerned, one of the fitness ladies told me most people do not do Phase One but go onto Phase Two as I have done. I really feel a whole lot better having one piece of fruit per day. I also find the Old Fashion Oatmeal very filling and really quite good. According to the book you are not to use the instant oatmeal because it has more white flour in it.

One of the ladies also said to stick to your program Monday thru Friday and give it a rest on the weekend. There was a time when WW proposed this very idea to their members and some of the members were actually successful following this approach. I understand from a friend that WW is going to change their program again--it will probably have something to do with this whole carb business.

I also had a hand scan to find out if my vitamins were actually working for me. Of course the main reason to have this done was so that you would consider purchasing their "special" vitamin packets. One of the chiropractors at this booth also explained that Centrum and the vitamin I use from Costco which is compared to Centrum Silver really isn't absorbed in our bodies because of how they prepare he vitamin in order to mass produce it. Has anyone else heard this? Another test I had done was dealing with acupuncture and I ended up in the middle. Here again it was a gimmick to get you committed for a more thorough exam by paying $10 at the show which is a $30 value. I opted not to do this.

I did enter a few drawings and got some very interesting items to read. At this point I haven't had a chance to do so.

Well ladies I will talk to you again tomorrow!

Anita

Hello Ladies,
The concert was great. I could have sat there and listened to them for hours. I only had a old cassette tape from them, so now I want to get something on cd. Went to the saturday morning weight in and GAINED 1.6 lbs... what can i say, I ate out dinner 4 nites during the week and ate out for lunch all 5 days, plus it that time of the month. SO this week I am determined to get lose the 1.6 lbs. Oh, I don't remember if i had told you all but several months ago I had joined a gym that was being built, we'll it opened up this saturday morning. So I am committed to working out 2 - 3 times a week. They offer yoga classes & pilates classes, so I'm hoping to try those out and they also have state of the art exercise equipment.

Nita - I too tried that vitamin test & actually my absorption was pretty good. Of course they had to tell me that their vitamins offered something extra but I expected a sale from them. Oh, I sure the Sara McLaughin concert will be great. I would like to see her too.

Hal - Good news on your finals. Are you going to be able to take some time off from school before you go back to school?

Mooz - Wow that is alot of steps. That is great that you are geting 4 2 mile walk in. I can barely get passed 10,000 steps.

Thin - Good to hear from you. I'm sure the kids are enjoying visiting with their aunt & uncle. I'm sure they also keeping you busy.

I have been thinking .............. am 52 now and it is about time I was looking after myself a bit better as I am at an age where things have more chance of going wrong
I have been able to do at least 10000 steps every day since I got my new toy but I have not been near the 27000 of my first day!!
After seeing that Fat Vs Muscle on one of the Sticky threads I feel the need to do more than just walk. I need to get rid of this flab on my tummy and waist and I need to strengthen and tone my arms. So I will do about 50 sit-ups every day to start with and I have 7 pound weights which I will use for my arms every other day. I only want to make a bit of a change ......... I don't want to have big muscles

Patty - sorry that you put on weight ....... all that eating out did not help I'm sure! .......... but you will soon lose it!

Nita - I could never do without my fruit so I thing you are right to have some.

Halgal - CONGRATS on being a late bloomer .......... better late than never!!

Thin - I hope you can get into the swing of losing some weight again. We need to figure out how to lose it and keep it off!

Cat - hope things are better at work for you.

Michelle - hope you get a chance to call in soon.

Have a nice day all!

A golden day

This is a golden day. Open your eyes and see its richness.
Open your heart, live the beauty and value of this day. Accept it as it is, and the love you give to life will make it even better.

Whatever comes along, consider it a privilege that you're able to experience it. Look for the blessings in everything, and you'll surely find them.

Pay no attention to the false limitations that the world may put on joy. There is no need to acquire or to dominate in order to be happy.

Simply open yourself to the abundance that already surrounds you. And you'll be firmly connected to all you could ever desire.

This is a golden day. And the more you live its treasure, the more of it there will be.

This cute picture reminds me of Rocky Road. It is intersting, I have spent lots of time with him this summer - or more than normal - and he simply seems to crave more, and more, and more. If you could see his official pout behavior as I prepare to leave. It is cute, but I will never let him know that!

I am planning to go see Fareinheit 911 at the bargain night movies tonight. I've been told to take a few kleenex. Who knows. I simply believe is seeing and listening to all sides. To remain informed and educated.

My diet is not going well. Late summer nights have lead to eating at hours I normally would not. This has got to stop.

OneDay: Honestly, the first week of June was the only week I had that was school free. I was in all day Friday and yesterday. I am taking today off, but will be back in tomorrow. I am working on the freshman transitional program that takes place the last week of July. I had a contact from the state dept of ed asking me to apply for a consultant position. I did place my application - but I have mixed feelings.

Mooz: Always the battle. I am with you girlfriend. If only I could tune into my thoughts and feelings in the weight loss and body maintenance area. I know what is best, and have not tuned in. Thanks for your input. I so very much am on the 'same page' as you.

Nita: So did you pick up anything interesting from the anti-aging seminar? I need to know! Southbeach is ever popular, most especially in the summer when fresh fruits and veggies are abundant.

Cat: How's it going? Time for a poem? Ahhh.... I hope you are doing well.

Thin, Michellez - Car 54 where are 'yall'.

Happy Tuesday to All,

Well I had my final training yesterday and since the other two folks didn't show it turned out to be a one-on-one with my male supervisor, Chris. I believe he told me about the worst case scenarios that could happen--at least I hope this was the case. There really is a whole lot of responsibility to this job--but I do believe I can do it--however, I did admit to Chris that I probably will be nervous my first day. We do have a Team Leader who will be there to assist me if I need help. The team leader will also be aware that this is my first concert. Today I need to go out and buy black pants that have pockets and I need to wear a belt. Now for sure I cannot mess up on this diet. I haven't worn a belt and put my shirt in for many, many years. I'm not sure I will be too comfortable, but I will think positive about the whole situation. Chris also has me marked down for another concert this month as well as a fight on the 29th.

HalGal - Probably the best thing about the Anti-Aging Seminar was the fact that I got a lot of exercise just walking around for about 4-1/2 hours. I should have put on my pedometer but I forgot. Yes, the South Beach was probably one of the most talked about programs and as I stated earlier the one fitness instructor told me that not everybody even goes on Phase One, only those that are really gung-ho. Also exercise is the real key to getting the weight off. One of the ladies told me that when you do walk on the treadmill it isn't necessary to go as fast as you can--the real key is to change your type of walking each time. One day just keep it flat and the next day do the incline. The real ideal program would be to get a personal trainer. She even suggested to maybe use a PT for a couple of weeks and by that time you could do it on your own if you could motivate yourself. I also spoke to a gentleman who does hypnosis for people to lose weight. The cost is $150 and he also sells a CD for $25. I have a whole bunch of literature to go through but haven't found time to do it yet. If I find out any other good things I most definitely pass them along.

Well I had better go. I need to put clean sheets on the bed and then I will be on my way out to find the things I need for Friday.

Have a "super" day!

Hello Ladies,

We'll last night I went to the new gym. I tried a Mixx Class. It was a combination of high & low impact, using a tae bo type workout. It was really hard. A few times I just walked in place. Tonight is a yoga class. I'm going to that too. I would like to take a yoga class & maybe a conditioning class & then once or twice in the morning do cardio. I know that just sounds like alot. I wish I would really like working out, where it would just become part of my routine. But I know I have to work at it. Anyway the other thing I need to work on is my food, last night after class I was starving & it was 8:30pm, I really didn't want to stop for fast food, but I was not prepared. So today I brought some yogurt to eat about 1 hour before class.

Mooz - I finally got to 13,000 steps, of course that was because I went to the gym last night. Don't worry about getting big muscles. Most womens bodies are not made that way. Seven pounds seems like alot if you haven't been working out. Be careful...

Nita - I'm sure you will do just great! I bet you will definitely get alot of walking when you work. I'm sure some of the concerts will be exciting, especially if you enjoy the music & i'm sure at some of the concerts you'll be wanting to put earplugs in.

Hal - My Blackie makes the cuties faces too. Especially if he wants something that i'm eating. He looks at me with his sad face & I tell him no, & sometimes he makes a even sadder face.

we'll I need to be running, Cat, Mitchellez, Thin - Hope you all are having a great day!

Hello Ladies,
Just a quick hello. Went to a pilates classes last night. Oh my gosh. My stomach is so sore. I was not able to do all the moves. But i'm determined to stick to it. I am going to just do the treadmill at home, give me a chance to do laundry, water the yard etc, and tomorrow take another class.

Hope everyone is having a great day!
