I don't have a pressure cooker. Do you think I need one?
I'm going to Weight Watchers tonight. I hate to need a crutch to lose weight, but I just do. I want to be svelte like Bagzie is by summer. 5'7" and only 150 lbs.???? I weigh 149 but I'm only 5'2". See? I am too short!!!And my fat is dimply too. I'm going to the home and garden show tomorrow. My artist friend has some of her huge paintings featured in one of the display gardens as a backdrop. Can't wait to see how they turned out. Kiwi, have you ever thought of just calling up a builder and telling DH you've got it handled? This from the woman who has griped about remodeling the bathroom for 5 years. |
Baggzi, you're 4'11"?? On the internet, you come off as at least 5'6".
I haven't been able to check in because I've been busy not writing library school application essays that are due March 1st. |
Hehe.
Anyway, I'm 5'4", so I'm the second shortest and first dumpiest here. Painty, I'm giving up sugar and caffeine for Lent, so I'll be suffering along with you in a week. |
you are right cherry pie===i am five seven and a half-----and i ate half a maple sugar pudding pie tonight-------WOW was it good---it is dd17's bday---------OH MY GOD---MY BABY GIRL IS EIGHTEEN------------THIS HAS TO STOP====WE MUST NOT GET ANY OLDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!my darling girl was only TWELVE when i started posting with you darlings, and now she is filling out university applications :stress: :stress: :stress: :stress: :stress: :stress: :stress: :stress: :stress: :stress: :stress: :stress: :stress: :stress: :stress: :stress: :stress: :stress:

OOOO, Ki! Porcupine meatballs! i haven't had them in YEARS. Are they made with rice a roni, or am I thinking of something else!
Bagz, where is DD applying? Did she have to take SATs? Is she running across Canada, or staying close to home? I have friends with kids at Mount A and they LOVE it! That's pretty near you, isn't it? I'm thinking kids need to grow up faster. I'm getting a little tired of teenagers. |
I'm tired of full grown adults who won't move out and won't keep their laundry and dishes cleaned up.
I don't have a thing to say and yet here I am. |
I am glad you are here. It is my day off and someone should be here. BerryFrappePie, tell us about when you taught them to drive.
|
Quote:
Here's news on the teen driving front: after 4 months of practice driving with DD, I have noticed signs of observational behavior from her -- today I turned a corner and a car ahead of me came to an abrupt halt to make a turn; I didn't have to slam on the brakes or anything--I wasn't that close, I just stopped; but DD gasped loudly (she was in the passenger seat). I take this to mean she's actually paying attention to the road. Six months ago she would never have noticed a potentially dangerous situation unless I slammed on the brakes suddenly. Yesterday I made her practice parallel parking in our yard, with garbage cans. She did pretty well, although we don't have anything resembling a curb (just a snowbank), so I suspect she would have climbed the curb a couple of times. At least she didn't knock over the cans (she threatened to do it for fun, until I told her they were full!!). I really dread having her practice on real cars, but I suppose we'll have to sooner or later. I am washing yards and yards of fabric today. And trying to get hold of people to help me cut this stuff into costumes. Oy. We have to have 21 costumes ready in 2 weeks. Kiwi |
Teaching parallel parking! ARGH! My DS15 wants a learner's now, but I'm dreading riding in the car with him. He's a good, responsible kid, but not very observant. But, Kiwi, you give me hope.
|
Here is an exact quote from my DD (not to do with driving): "Why would I be paying attention?" I have threatened to submit that as her senior motto for the yearbook (I doubt she'll change in 2 years). So, yeah, I think it's possible to teach a somewhat ~ahem~ unobservant kid to drive safely. Just takes a lot of practice on their part and a whole lot of attention on our part!
Bagz, I hear there's a big blizzard in your neck of the woods!! True? Are you snowed in? We got nothing here, are you sending it my way? I need more snow! Kiwi |
Paid for lessons for DD1 right from the start. Refused to get in a car with her until she had at least 10 hours of driving instruction. DH held out even longer than that.
Tried teaching DD2 myself but she either 1)cried or 2)yelled at me every time I said anything. DH refuses to EVER get in a car with her. Broke down and paid for lessons and now drive with her but end up with bloody mouth from biting my tongue the whole time. Taught DS to drive stick shift in 2 hours in an empty parking lot. It was a breeze. He's going to be the best driver of us all! We should have a "Goodbye to Frappe's Gallbladder Party". Tomorrow's the big day! It was supposed to be outpatient surgery but when hospital staff heard I have 2 teens and aged MIL at home, they called surgeon and requested overnight stay at least! It's pathetic when hospital visit starts sounding like a vacation! |
Any excuse for a party!
Happy Ex-Gall Bladder, Berrypie!!!!! That should take off a couple of pounds.
I went down to Sylvia's Beauty Silo today and managed to come out not looking too much like a debutante. Although she did spray me with about a gallon of hair spray that's making me itch now. And she sold me some fancy expensive shampoo. But hey, I'm worth it, right? :smug: Tomorrow I volunteered to supervise 15 second graders (only half the class, thank goodness) in the computer room. What was I thinking? They also want me to do and hour a week in the library for 4th graders who want to learn how to read and write English because they only do listening and speaking in class. When I went to the official library meeting yesterday, all the SuperDebbies looked at me like I was an alien sea creature, but that's nothing new, is it? It's not easy being green. *sigh* Whenever I use my pressure cooker, I always have to think of someone's mother I knew who made clam chowder in hers and YES, it actually exploded all over the ceiling because she wasn't paying attention. Just imagine. Hasn't happened to me yet. She used to make her kids eat liver and onions so that explains a lot of things. |
Any excuse for a party and I'm in!!! :hat: :cb: :cp: Goodbye gallbladder! Enjoy your stay at the spa/hospital Frappe. Enjoy your nurses call button. And you won't miss your gallbladder a bit. It's so nice not to have those nasty pains.
Kiwi, what do you mean, you need snow? We're starting to get some things blooming here. Daffodils are up, and I pruned my roses last weekend. Winter is on the way out! I was the driving teacher with both my kids. I don't remember it being all that bad. Now they tell me how to drive. Sugar, you are a saint. What do you mean Super Debbies? |
When I learned to parallel park, we used Mom's car on one end and MY FATHER on the other. It made me pretty careful, quick!
I don't know what all I'll be sacrificing besides sugar... my MD actually came out IN FAVOR of SBD when I visited today. What I hope NOT to sacrifice is comfort and solace. Of course DH offered whatever variety of SEX he might think of, to replace late night ice cream, bread and jam, or quesadillas. I'm sure he thought he was being generous   ;) And when I actually can see my toes and bend in the middle, (and have had ample hugs and neck rubs), I might even take him up on it. I'm re-inspired. Thanks to all who keep encouraging me, and providing examples of good cheer and/or good progress. |
This is my 1st day back on strict WW program. I'm hungry and this is hard and I forgot how hard it is. My plan is to lose 20 pounds. That would be a total of 40 pounds from my high point last year. Tell me I can do it.
|
Painty, according to my VD present (Dr Laura), it is your WIFELY DUTY to jump his bones!
I actually like SBD but anm not very good at planning ahead enough to keep it up for long. You are re-inspiring me! Post GallB, I may join you on this! It'd be SOOOOO nice to be thinner for summer! Not to mention steamy s*x. |
Frap, they don't have that in Florida. Because of insurance reasons, there are no businesses that will go in a car with a kid and teach him to drive. They will teach him the written test for money. Big deal.
|
Goodbye gall bladder. I hardly knew you but bye.
|
Bye bye Frappie's gallbladder! Post as soon as you can! Have a nice rest!
Yep, I'm doing sugar & caffeine-free, along with some version of SBD. Right now, I'm binging on everything... bad idea, I know. |
Three men, three wives
Three men were traveling and happened to meet at a restaurant in Ohio. One man was from Texas, one from Florida and one from Canada. They got acquainted and started talking about their problems with their wives. The guy from Texas began by saying, "I told my wife clearly that from now on she would have to do all of the cooking. Well, the first day after I told her, I saw nothing. The second day I saw nothing, but on the third day when I came home from work, the table was set, and a wonderful dinner was prepared with candles and even dessert." Then the man from Florida spoke up "I sat my wife down and told her, that from now on she would have to do all the grocery shopping and all of the house cleaning. The first day I saw nothing. The second day I saw nothing. But the third day, when I came home, the whole house was ! spotless, and in the pantry the shelves were filled with groceries." The fellow from Canada was married to a woman who had grown up in Canada all her life. He sat up straight on the stool, pushed out his chest and said. "I gave my wife a stern look and told her, that from now on she would have to do the cooking, shopping and house cleaning. Well, the first day I saw nothing. The second day I saw nothing. But by the third day, I could see a little bit out of my left eye." |
Berry-- If they give you good enough drugs, you'll get a little vacation time in even AFTER you get out of hospital! DH and DS both had theirs out last year and both slept off and on for about 3 days... there was just no arguing with them!
And thanks for the wifely duty advice... I just WISH it weren't from Dr. L. I'd listen to Martha Stewart before I listened to her. Cherry-- thanks for the joke.... I thought it was usually the Texans who were the hardest to fall.... but... ah, those Canucks... :dizzy: Gotta stay home tomorrow am.... oooooooooh, too bad!!! for redundant roof inspection by city inspector. The roofing company's been here... we've had rain and snow and now leaks... but I've got to be hear during a 4 hour "window" to let some city servant get in my attic. Maybe he'll come early and I can take a long walk. Or come late and I can to lots of writing early. Can you tell me why the city would care about whether our roofing contractor did an adequate job? |
COME ON BOVINE BEAUTIES...
WHERE ARE YOU? |
Heeeeere I yam! Cherry, that one was good for a chuckle!!! too cute! Cowper, I thought for a minute that you meant they didn't have steamy s*x in Florida, but then I realized you were still talking driving lessons. :o I thought that everything was steamy in Florida due to high humidity level. This is day 2 of WW. I'm p-m-essy, and grumpy and mean too. I have a baaaaad attitude. My friend's painting was boo-te-full at the Home and Garden show.Of course I forgot my camera.
|
I'm too pmssssssssy and miserable to post. I have taxes to get together. I'm tired. everyone hates me. my life is horrible. I haven't had sugar and I still feel awful. My back hurts. I have a headache. I don't get enough sleep. It is the weekend and I have nothing fun to do. ick.
I have looked in several stores and they don't have The Amateur Marriage. That would have made me happy. I will have to go to the mall. There is too much traffic there and there are nasty Sopranos Newjerserites. I'm going to go curl up in a ball and wallow in self pity. |
ooohhhhhhhhhhh------i liked lohani's message---so full of angst and pathos---- why not get your book online???? whenever i order amazon.ca IT COMES THE NEXT DAY!!!! i find that amazing ---it has happened twice in a row----here is what i have to read by tuesday for a book club that is courting me------"The Gardens of Kyoto"---anyone heard of it????--------------- I have a suggestion for your weekend missy lo-hissy=========COME WITH ME TO MEXI'S FOR MARGUERITASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS------YAHOOOOOOOOOO-------WE DID HAVE A MONSTER BLIZZARD KIWINDER-----however NOva SCotia got a raging storm as did PEI-------------a metre of snow in some places----people's cars were completely covered in snow drifts------------ 100k winds in some areas!!!----we had school closed for one day which the CHILdren enjoy more than most adults!!!!!!!-----Wabby i am MAD at you as usual as you KNOW damn well that i will not be seeing a daffy down dilly until at LEAST MAY----anyway,gotta go get ready for me drinkin'------solves alot of problems ya know {i heard it can create a few tooo!!}------HAVE A NICE NIGHT BAG O COWS.
|
I'm still reading "Library: An Unquiet History," which I'm finding to be a bit drier than I expected. I finished "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime" and "The Wooden Sea." I recommend both. I have "The Amateur Marriage" on reserve at the library, but I have to finish this "Library" book since someone else has it on hold.
I'm getting fatter. Blah. I hate this. I have to diet. Oh, well, I have until next Tuesday. Wabby, I thought the same thing about s*x in Florida! |
Hee-hee, Bagzie, you know I love to torture you with my early spring babble! Why else would I live in this rainy country? Actually it's lovely and sunny and mid 50's today. I'm reading The Patron Saint of Liars by Ann Patchett. Isn't the Gardens of Kyoto by the same author who wrote Remains of the Day? That's one of my all time favorite books. How did you find a book club Bagzie? I want to join one, but I'm not real sure about organizing one. They have a couple at the library, but I want one where food and drink is involved in the meetings. :hat: :hun: My friend suggested we start a club by first reading Under the Tuscan Sky or is it Sun? and having italian food w/ lots of vino. So far it's only the 2 of us that we can get interested. Cherry, I'm putting your book titles on my list of future reads. Poor Lush. I'm in a slump too. Join the club. DH just got blood work back at his docs and it looks like he might be type 2 diabetic. He inherited all the ills from his Mother's side of the family and only his dark, handsome italian looks from his Dad's side. As we all know, Grandpa Jim is still humming along at 91. He's so thrilled because our new satelite dish tv has cinemax, which has lots of R+ rated movies. Naughty old geezer. :nono: Have a lovely weekend, cowsies, and I'm sending well wishing vibes to Frappe and her gall bladder.
|
I am sorry I am such a selfish pms sufferer. Good luck Frappe. Take lots of drugs.
L |
Isn't it hella nice of all of us to PMS together??? I swear I've had cramps for days; what's up with that? Must be sympathetic gallbladder pain -- hope it went well, Frappe. And don't let the family wake you up
I spent half the day bent over a table pinning and cutting out fabric. Well, to be honest, I had 2 helpers and they did way more than I did. DD was one of them, to my surprise -- she tends to be a nightmare in the kitchen; I didn't expect her to be any better with this domestic foray, but she was right into it. I also got an invite over to a real live adult person's house for tea and conversation after we got done with the cutting. DD left on the band bus for another basketball game and I spent an hour or so talking and guffawing with a couple of great broads. We discussed the hijacking of our lives by our teenager's transportation needs, among other things. I thought Florida was one of those states where you can get your driver's license when you're about 12 -- when did they get all pi**y about it? Can't believe they can't offer on the road driver's ed -- that's ridiculous. Do the schools offer it? I think a lot of kids need a professional instructor until they figure out how to coordinate their feet and hands and eyes and brains. Comes naturally to some people, like Frappe's DS apparently, but not to everybody. I would not have wanted to be the first person in the car with DD, believe me  WabsterSpringMaven, my newbie Oregonian friend says her dog is suffering from mold allergies in your rawther moist environment. Winter's just getting going here :s: -- it was gorgeous today, the sun glinting off the snow, 28 deg. F, lovely. Sorry to hear about DH's health report. I would love to join your book and eating and drinking club; sounds right up my alley. I'm a very slow reader, but I make a killer lasagne. Hang in there LushieLo, whining is good therapy. Waaaaaaaaahhhhhh, my tummy hurts. :bb: I agree with Painty, nothing Dr. Laura says can possible be a good thing. But I'm not taking sex advice from Martha either.... :rollpin: Kiwi |
I'm still up doing the *%#&@#* taxes. I'm really, really glad dh is getting a good night's sleep. That's important to me.
Hang in there, Kiwi...menopause is just around the corner. Do you realize that we're the first generation...at least I am...who spent our teens and twenties on the pill???? You don't think that my post menopausal zest will be postponed due to the foolish wish not to have children while I was young and cute?????? I don't think I deserve that. I keep thinking my time has come, but no. I remain youthful and vibrant. |
i didn't take the BC pill!!--i HATE pills, but dd18 has to be on it to stop her periods from happening every two weeks-----NoW THAT was **** for her {and a few others}--basically PMS nonstop=------terrible-----------------I have learned only to have ONE JUMBO margie on Friday nights---this keeps me able to attend ds's basketball games without hollering at them all to quiet the **** down.FRAPPE---HAVE A LOVELY RECOVERY WEEKEND AND BE GLAD YOU AREN'T FREEZING YER *** OFF IN MONTREAL!!!!-----HOPE YOU GET FLOWERS AND LOTSA LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE!!!!-----------wabby---the women in the book club are the VERY lively, smart and great cooks, own their own businesses, mostly skinny and well dressed and intelligent and funny and soccer, drama moms etc etc etc TYPES-----they have asked me for awhile to join them as they feel i may be irreverant and cause some eyebrow raising on occasion-----------SHOULD I FEEL USED???? seriously,i do like alot of the ladies and YOU guessed it---there is wine and dessert served-----Why not get th bunco ladies to read a book between games!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!----KIWI=----SNOWSTORM ALERT FOR SUNDAY!!!----i am glad you are meeting some "broads" to hang with----since your pal took off for Wabby''s Land of raining Cherry Blossoms!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
|
Kiwi, they have drivers ed in the schools. DS took it in the summer. I think it involves 4 hours of driving but he went to see his dad or something and I don't think he drove much. There are no businesses here that teach driving other than in a classroom. I want someone to get in the car with him.
He's been working on a merit badge (computers) for scouts and that involves going to someone's house. He knows all the stuff for the badge already and complains that he has other things to do than go to this house. I love going tothis house where there are adults and social stuff. I try to tell him that it should be fun but he prefers to act like a teenager Someone who is starting another online magazine read a story I'm workshopping and asked me to submit it. This is nice. I like the story myself. |
Quote:
Wow, don't they have to complete the total amount of hours of driving before they can get their permit? DD had to do 10 hours with the instructor. You need some fearless mom or dad to offer to drive with him! How about the scout leader? I think when you go to the merit badge house, you should tell DS he can stay in the car if he wants to  Peaches is getting published all over the place!! yay her!!!! I have a monster migraine, my back hurts, I'm stuffed up, I feel crappy. There, that was cathartic. I need more coffee. Oh, my mother sent me a letter about an "informal book club" -- actually it's sort of a chain letter where you send a book you've read to one person and the letter to 6, but it's only got 2 levels so it's not too obnoxious. Would any of you object if I sent you one? You're supposed to get 36 books out of it! Of course it also means that you'd be sending my mother a book. :joker: hmmm. Maybe I shouldn't send any out of the U.S. because the postage would be too much? And, Painty, if you want in I need your snail address. Kiwi |
Kiwi, I can't bring myself to send chain letters. Otherwise, it's ok with me.
|
I object! But in the nicest of ways, of course!
Cool idea, Kiwi, but the postage would kill me. Maybe some day when I get back from here to there again.
I'm *trying* to get the next assignment for my course done and I've been searching for one stupid term all evening. I'll be nuts by the time I finish. |
I have an aversion to the mail. Otherwise, I'd do your chain letter.
I'm still miserable and cranky. I want to know what Sugar's term is. I am SO impressed by the repeated publishing interest shown toward our literary giant. Don't tell any loudmouths this time. Just tell us. That's what we're for. I'll check my email. My dd had to have 6 hrs of driver ed in the car. |
We had to PAY and take kids to private commercial driver's ed program... then they got school credit and an automatic pass on the in-car part of the DPS driver's test. I took both kids to the vacated mall parking lot for them to drive first. Once they could start, stop and steer, I drove them to a little used road and they practiced. It took DD 2 years to get the courage to drive on the highway! And DS's step brother kept running into things with the parents' car, so DS was appropriately cautious.
I'd like to have a book club CHAT once in a while... (Agree with others that mailing books/chain letters isn't my thing.) I've already mentioned Angry Housewives eating bon bons (Lorna Landvik)-- the story of about 5 women in a MN neighborhood who start a bookclub... Is there already a book club thread here at 3fc... or is it only diet/recipe books? Hmm... guess I COULD go check it out. Baggz... hold out for food at the book club....! I agree that book-related food is the most fun... and decorations... Sure it's extra work, but it contributes to the irreverence and joie de vivre of the members. I wouldn't mind being "used" if it was to bring eyebrow lifts to the public. I DON"T want to be tapped for teaching leg lifts, though. HRT is much better than PMS... The sudden hysterectomy a few years back was sort of a shock... but it DID make life easier. I'm missing my kids this morning. they are annoyingly silent (but probably happy, because I haven't had any whiney e-mails or calls). Hope those of you whose kids are still home can find something to enjoy about 'em! LoLo... go smash something that makes a bunch of noise.... Old jelly jars? with a hammer? Or throwing 'em against a wall? I think a good Kali/Shiva imitation is cathartic. Just remember to wear safety goggles! And EVERYBODY'S crabby when they're doing taxes. Jeez. give yourself a break! (And either get Turbo Tax or an accountant.) |
I tried to start a new thread about what happy cows we are but, you know, things go wrong.
I unpacked four big plastic boxes today. The boxes belong to Herbie and will be returned. They were filled with crap that he decided was mine. Like pictures of us in Europe. There's a xerox of a page from a magazine about eating refined sugar and depression. The sugar causes blood sugar to drop and that affect focus and concentration. High carbo diets can result in protein and amino-acid deficienies result in reduced neurotransmitter production. One of the transmitters is serotonin and that's what antideprssants work on. Therefore, maintaining a normal diet can do as much as antidepressants. They took longer to say it. DS went backpacking this weekend. One of the scout leaders is a woman (with short short hair, hairy eyebrows, a girlfriend) who is very skilled and sometimes more organized than the men. The car she was a passenger in brought Ds home. Seeee, the problem is I always meet them at the scout meeting place in another town and that's where I was. But he had a key and all is fine. |

It's still snowing here. yay :s: I may be the only human being who feels that way. Well, snowmobilers feel that way, but. Anyway. DH went in to work today. How odd. I think that might be the first time he's gone in on a weekend on this job. I may have to take his temperature when he comes home. I have nuffin to say obviously. I will just bloviate anyway. Ya know, Painty, you got your book club right here -- this is a real reading crowd. Only problem might be that we don't take direction well, so I kinda doubt you could get us to read any one book at the same time. We could start a new thread and call it "Leather Bound" -- haha get it? leather--cow hahaha damn I'm so not funny. Here's what I'm reading: The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants -- DD read it and liked it so much she gave it to me for Christmas. Very cute. Kiwi |
:smoking: I will send your mom a book but I won't get into chain letters. Bad Kiwi. I'm not obtuse.
