Hello all!
Dh made saurkraut soup tonight w/ no meat...and it is really tasty and...... its ..... ZERO POINTS...... Dh doesnt want to take credit so he says to call it Kaye's Sauerkraut Soup 2 vegetable builloin 1 big sauerkraut 2 big onions 8 cloves of garlic 2 cups green cabbage 1 pt of mushrooms ( about 8 large mushrooms0 4 carrots saute the onions and garlic with the raw cabbage in with lots and lots of water. Add buillion. When cabbage and onions are soft, add sliced carrots and mushrooms with the saurkraut. Cook for 30 minutes..... Its tangy! ***** Ceara: Am very interested to hear about the sourdough bisquits... are they Whole Wheat by chance??? And do you find the Cottage Cheese stays with you when you put it in the omelet or is this just your recipe that you've always used?? ** Time for tea! |
Thanks for the recipe, Kaylets! I always forget saurkraut is out there; I'll have to give it a try.
I recall reading in one of my old macrobiotic cookbooks that saurkraut is good for warding off sugar cravings. Just have a spoonful of saurkraut when you're craving cake and...nah, I'm not buying it either! |

Kaylets...I'm interpretting "stays with you" as you don't get hungry quickly? Yes it does in that case...I use it instead of cream or milk which is normally how you "cut" eggs up here when you scramble..or add water...the microwave melts the cottage cheese without drying the eggs to death. The sour dough biscuits are made with white flour...that is what you feed them with...the starter that is..plus milk and sugar. The yeast or whatever is in the sourdough eats up the sugar. (the recipe uses oil, flour, baking soda and powder and salt, or p cheese instead). I have made them with unrefined whole wheat flour but I'd wanna playa bit...they were a bit stonish. That is why I'm currently playing with rye...there isn't as much gluten in rye flour so the flour ratio gets skewed...these weren't tough though...does this help?
What is a big saurkraut...?...a can or do you pickle them whole? Aren't they just pickled salted cabbage? usually shredded? New stuff..I love it! Anyway...am off Ta-rah off to drink hot water...am lacking in that today...feel parchy. Ceara  |
Yo!
Hmmmm. As thou knowest, I be a novice with whole wheat flour ... what does unrefined mean in regard to whole wheat flour?
I'm with thee, Eydie, I don't think I'd buy saurkrat as a substitute for a pb cup! :s: But I do think thy recipe soundeth good, Kaylets. Mayhap I shall try it. I've never had saurkrat. I even have trouble spelling it. Ceara, thanks for the discussion of sourdough starter. I had a friend who did this and made the most astonishing things. I've never had the nerve! :hungry: The cottage cheese is really good in the brownies I made now that they're in their second day. Gives an interesting texture. Beginning to think I must always have ff cottage cheese in the house. Was going for another 1500 day but had to do the high cal day today ... involved pb cups, better not talk about it, I did try to stave it off by eating oranges on the road, but ... Too much traveling and reporter stress to write down everything so just did the calories. Do plan to post my menus as much as possible because I so enjoy reading the ones posted her. So many great  Food Slaying ideas ... hope the "slaying" word offendeth not ... just for fun, although I do think pb cups should be slain, sorry, they must be removed from the planet. They are EVIL! :rollpin: Have sinus :headache: ... must sleep, report below: 21-Day Challenge Report: Week 1, Day 3, My High Cal Day, calories: 1795, Day 3 exercise 60 minutes, on to Day 4, no more high cal days allowed in my challenge until next week! |
Onto day 4!
Still doing OKey dokey here...successful day yesterday....am going to join TOPS tonight...not for the meetings, just the weigh-ins...I need to be physically accountable to someone else other than me. They meet at 6:30 but weigh-in from 5:30 on so will just go there at supper...since I work until 8.
Training class was good last night...the middle heathen did nicely. I'm going to try some new soup/main dish recipes this week...will keep y'all posted. Ceara  |
Pyrex
Yes...I too be leery of the plastics...I use only microwavable ones but I think they can break down over time too....or else why would they stale date bottled water? It is the bottle they are dating not the water...Jeez.

I'm hangin' in on my challenge and discussing muffin recipes w/Elberta Crone ... will post a complete report and my menu tonight! Told my Amazing Amarantha-like Body today that I've had it with all these excuses and wimping out and we're gonna move forward. No more  food and no more wimpy workouts ... THE CHALLENGE LIVES!!!! Yowza!!!!
Yea, Ceara, I think you are right about the plastics, esp. water bottles. We drink LOTSA water in Arizona and people keep refreezing the bottles over and over again (fill 'em halfway, freeze and top 'em off before heading out) and I've read that this is a bad practice. Not only do the chemicals leach into the water (which already has too much arsenic) but there's a bacterial buildup in the bottles that you really can't get out. Lately I've been using a metal glass lined vacuum (sorry, I don't know how to spell that right now) bottle for the drink I take to the gym ... which I am proud to say I DRANK ALL OF TODAY! Am replacing the urge to get pb cups after the gym by coming home and eating a tablespoon of the barley malt syrup, which is a complex carb, at least that's the way I understand it. It's good, not as good as the brown rice syrup (which I can't find). Still eating too much turbinado on my oatmeal but I need sugar for awhile yet. Will be in the carving class this afternoon. Back tonight. Watch out for the  Foods, Slayers, they're all around us!!!! Yowza! They be EVIL!@!!!!! EVIL, I SAY, EVIL!!! Really evil. |

OT on the subject of spam I brought up on the other thread: Now I'm getting spam with the word "devil" in the subject line ... oh, well! Nevertheless mine challenge today be an  although my sugar consumption is still way high ... but reducing sugar is not the subject of my challenge; it's about calories in and calories out, with an emphasis on health where possible. 21-Day Challenge Report: Week 1, Day 4, calories: 1440, exercise 43 minutes, weights in gym, 2 min. cardio, on to Day 5 Ateth the following: 1/4 cup Scottish oatmeal (75) 1 T turbinado sugar (45) Butter Spray, count for day (10) 1 T barley malt syrup (60) Healthy German chocolate brownie bar (55) EAS Carb Control Vanilla shake (100) Grilled salmon w/dill/butter spray (120) Corn (70) Brocolli w/lowfat cheese sauce (70) EAS Carb Control Vanilla shake (100) 3.5 ounce maple iced glazed donut bar, no filling (455) EAS Carb Control Vanilla shake (100) 1 slice sprouted bread toasted in oven w/butter spray (80) EAS Carb Control Rich Dark Chocolate shake (100) Total: 1440 Going back to calorie counting is making it easier to see where the problem lies. The donut would be approximately 9 points, which I was not seeing as very high on Flexpoints, but looking at my menu now, it's more readily apparent that the one donut that took two minutes to buy and eat was 32 percent or so of my whole day's food. A pb cup or two would have been better (115 cal each). It's ok to have a donut now and then (I do know it's not spelled donut, but I like it), but a couple of oranges would have been better for this sinus infection I have. Tomorrow, determined to make muffins sometime. Will post the recipe. Elberta Crone hath now locked Amarantha out of the kitchen, the better to save her from herownself! |
P.S. The sprouted bread is flourless and totally delicious ... I remembered that Wood Nymph had posted something about this last year and when I saw it in the health food section, I decided to try it. I froze half the loaf as it has no preservatives or anything ...

Thursday!
Eating yesterday
3/4 c oatmeal 1/4 c raspberries 2 c coffee w/ 6% cream 1 greek pita with 1 slice proscetto(?) cheese melted on it 1 c lentil pasta sauce over the whole thing (this was messy but good) 1 apple 1c green grapes 1/2 c mashed potato w/ grated carrot 1 c boiled turnip 1/2 sausage 1 c bean soup 1/2 c grapes 1 rye biscuit w/hummus (1tbsp) 2 butter tarts :o This was supper consumed after 8 pm. Then I went to bed to stop the mindless grazing...was doing ok up to the tarts. I weighed in...totally freaked the weigher inner...she would never have thought I weighed that much! I graciously said that I hide it well...makes me wonder just how much fat I carry around my internal organs. Ah well....now to shed it! Onto day five...definitely no food after 7!!! It makes me feel woolen all night! Ceara  |
Yo!
Ah, Ceara, I have fond memories of butter tarts from when I lived across the river from Ontario ... well, no, these were called raisin tarts, now that I think of it, so forget that ... anyway, they were definitely  Food! Off with their heads! But your day looketh great nevertheless!!!!
