Pilates**20 min. Dumbells**40 pushups**200 crunches**4 miles treadmill Another "prowly" day for me. I couldn't find anything that really satisfied me, so I was still considering eating at 8:00 last night even tho I wasn't hungry. I hope this is just a fluke, hope it's not some new self-sabotage thing my wily brain has come up with. At least I'm doing well with working out! |
Yo!
Hmmm. All members of the  Food Slayer Contigent seem to be doing well except for Amarantha!!!! Yesterday was another off day ... just eating to medicate my emotions, etc., etc., but still moving forward nutritionally, although calories have been high. I've decided the every two week weigh-in may be happening this week as well. So trying to hold the line for a few days and set new mission goals on Sunday!!! My sugary laden menu so far has been:
EAS carb control Scottish oatmeal w/tablespoon Turbinado sugar 2 pkgs pb cup (4 cups) Planned for lunch/early dinner: salmon w/dill, corn, broccoli I've been searching everywhere for barley, as the original Body For Life book noted that this was a good carb to enjoy with a protein serving ... I'm trying to think of different grains to fill that role than always brown rice or corn. Coucous is a thought but I can't find the whole wheat variety. Oh, well, the search goeth on! Later ... |
No, no, no,...
Thou art not the only one Empress A....I too findeth meself aimlessly cruisin' the larder as :queen: Eydie hath described. Eating after 7 was not met last night...although food for the day wasn't bad....and still no alcohol. But may socially have a wine with dinner :dunno: maybe. Will see. No I am NOT DOING WELL....even with small things at a time....think I need to handcuff my wrists to my sides...I'd prolly use my feet then
Ceara  :drill: |
Hello .....
I like barley too... specially in soup-- think I found a sweet barley dessert recipe too but never put it together.... We passed on Chinese takeout last night as DH didnt come home b/4 bowling....usually that's Thursday dinner but its been too usual if you know what I mean....I've been eating dinner and saying... what's next... Just beginning to realize it really is Friday night... guess the ice storm/ flooding had me on edge...now that I'm home I am unwinding.... We bought wonton wrappes a while ago ... anyone know how long they will last in the fridge?? Unopened?? I bet they've been sitting there too long... Anyway... |
Yo, :queen: K, I think thou canst freeze the wonton skins but they don't last long unless you do ... could be wrong, though. Just what someone told me. Where dost thou get thy barley btw, I couldn't even find it at Trader Joe's?
:queen: Ceara, methinks I'll definetely be joining thee in the food free after 7 hour! Have eaten carefully today but the  be lurking and whispering in my shell-like ear: "Suuuuuugaar laden treats to be had at the convenience store down the street. Or go to Walmart. Life sucks, Walmart be forever and they have dooooooonuts there!!!!!!" Beware!!!! Found out that a young woman who inspires me at the gym because of her strength and positive attitude is training to get on to the U.S. Olympic team for something-or-other. I love to see how strongly she trains ... was thinking about our  food missions here and wonder if she ever eats pb cups? Probably not too often! :) Here's my final menu, plan to eat about 2-3 more points later ... esp. if I decide to make the whole wheat, high pro oatmeal cookies I have planned for this weekend: EAS carb control shake (2 points) Scottish oatmeal w/tablespoon Turbinado sugar & butter spray (3 points) 2 pkgs pb cup (4 cups, total 10 points) EAS carb control shake (2 points) Scottish oatmeal w/tablespoon Turbinado sugar & butter spray (3 points) Dilled salmon (2 points) Brussel sprouts w/butter spray (1 point) Corn w/butter spray (2 points) Planned for later 2-3 points Total points: 27-28 Avanti! |
Ok, Food Slayers, listen up!!!! This be Elberta Crone, the oh-so-fab-100-year-old-babe-who-looketh-and-feeleth-so-good-because-she-eateth-so-healthily, and I have a few announcements for the gathering!!!! Welcome to the Imperial Kitchen and this meeting of the  Food Slayers/Challengers Club.
We be the best and most consistent group o' food slayers/challengers and  Food (not cake) summoners within a radius o' 15 magik :queen: doms!!!! WE WILL PREVAIL over the forces o' milk chocolate with peanut butter, caloric wine and just general nutritional slackiness!!!!! RIGHT? Right! I can't HEAR ye, Amarantha!!!! :drill: Right? RIIIIIIGHT!!! Too right! Ok, Amarantha, what be THY  food challenge for today? And by-the-by, didst thy points total hold last night? It did not, EC, but all my food was  food. Not cake, I hope! Nope! Anyway my  Food Challenge for today is to get back on track with 28-30 points AND NO PB CUPS! Amen? Amen. Anyone else? Let's step up to the plate, Slayers and make this a  Food Challenge Saturday!!! Yay! Ok! Bye! |
My  food challenge today will be to simply keep my calorie count at or below 1500. There's been too much creeping up the last few days. My own clever inner demon, I think.

9-grain bagel w/ lo-fat cream cheese, lettuce, peppers, carrot 3 cheese blintzes w/ strawberries coffee w/ ff 1/2 and 1/2 2 ww toast w/ boca burger, lettuce, onion, ketchup, mustard brocolli salad w/ 1 tbsp. cashews raspberry sorbet bar snack: slimfast bar water: 5 cups [not nearly enough!!!] calories: 1725 fiber: 26 grams fat:34 grams EXERCISE: 15 min. lower body stuff 30 min. belly dance video 4 miles treadmill |
Yea, :queen: E, them  s are sneaky ... creepy and sneaky!!! Stay strong!!! I will, too!!!!
Am thinking of a lemon bar whole wheat makeover this weekend! Soundeth doable! |
Empress, I was in Wal-Mart today and saw quick-cooking barley in their tiny 'kosher' section--maybe you could look there. I wonder if there's a big difference in the fiber content of the whole natural barley vs. pearl barley. [I always think Pearl Bailey when I say that! ]
|
Eydie-- Did you make the blintzes yourself?? Sounds delish!
DH just made steamed apples w/ cranberries-- 3 apples sliced in water w/ splenda and cinammon...we put a handful of fresh cranberries too.. then served w/ big dollop of vanilla yogurt in the middle.... yum. Went to the library and found a Moosewood Daily Specials Cookbook.. I have no idea what took me so long to realize "soup" and "supper" are related words... Anyway..... I remain candy free... in fact, I have a new "mantra" when faced w/ a temptation.... "Do I want to start a binge over......?"......So far, its worked w/ bagels... and some cookies a coworker had on her desk... you know those big bags of sandwich cookies... these were Peanut butter sandwiches.... I know one of these times I will be faced with something that yes, might be worth a binge..... but so far...so good... |
Yo, Slayers, must report that today's mission for Amarantha was a failure! We aren't even gonna talk about it and Amarantha be glad she decided to go for the two week weigh-in again this month ... this Saturday binge may NOT be over yet, :queen: s!!!
Howsomever, A be not discouraged and intendeth to get back on track tomorrow and have a nice weigh-in next week. This is going to involve some debingeing and lots of healthy experimental cooking and Elberta Crone hath been pressed into service because A needeth healthy baked goods and stuff for travel, especially Tuesday which shall be a killer day. Exercise needeth to get back on track as well. Eydie: I'll look in Walmart, thanks! I did find two interesting items in Basha's natural food section (Basha's is a grocery chain). I've been looking in vain for brown rice syrup, which even Trader Joe's doesn't sell anymore, so was pleased to find barley malt syrup (which is similar to the brown rice syrup only with a bit more of a bite) ... it was almost $6 a jar but worth it (needless to say I ate a tablespoon of it as soon as I could get it open). This will make good muffins, or maybe gingerbread bars with whole wheat four and protein powder, mayhap? :) The second item was bulgar wheat ... I'm going to make a pilaf (sp?) with this sometime as soon as I can find some good salmon to go with it. I'm amazed at how much my diet is starting to resemble Body For Life again ... except in my case, I'm having several of those "free" days a week ... clothes are tight. :queen: s I need to get these demons outta the :queen: dom!!!! Tomorrow! I'm posting a new challenge and going to go at it! Ok, bye! Finally finished work ... messed up and lost some info I need but sent the story anyway hoping they can fix it for me ... sigh ... brain dead! Congratulations to Kaylets for remaining candy free and to Eydie for her good day and to Ceara for the good day I KNOW she's going to report!!!!! Yowza! |
ALL ABOUT AMARANTHA: Sorry to shout, :queen: Slayers, it is I, Elberta Crone, the fab-well-you-know ..., reporting that the fab Empress Amarantha be about her  Food banishing missions with gusto this a.m. ... she cometh into the palace kitchen and saith, "EC, I've had it with counting points as it is artificial and doth not reflect my scientific belief that calories DO count. Fiber and lower fat be good but there is no real science that saith that fiber makes foods less caloric. Accordingly, please tell the imperial nutritionist that I be wishing to set up future menus and challenges on a counting calories basis. I shall henceforth strive to eat in a modified Body for Life (or Zonelike, if thou prefer that term) pattern of small healthy low glycemic meals roughly balanced between carb/protein/fat and continue in the quest of learning to bake treats this way.
Editing: Decided to get real and weigh in and I'm only up 2. This is good, considering. Will change my sig now and set out on the mission being as pure as an  (not cake)! Amarantha's February Food Quest I, Amarantha, pledgeth this day, Sunday, Feb. 8, to set forth on a 21-day quest to banish the Binge Demon , a particularly evil member of the Demon Food gang  that be seemingly forever loose in the royal neighborhood. To accomplish this banishing, I’m pledging to eat in a range of no more than 1500 calories six days a week and no more than 1500-2000 one day a week so’s my metabolism will stay strong!!! :strong: :rollpin: Though this be not about eating, but in a way is, I further pledge to exercise 360 minutes each week of the three week challenge! Quest Report: Week 1, Day 1 & Counting; Calories ????, Exercise ?? Minutes |
Kaylets, I didn't make the blintzes--Brand name was Ian's--got them at the natural foods market. They were quite good and they really hit the spot! I was at Wal-Mart yesterday checking out their meatless frozen stuff. I saw a meatless version of sweet and sour 'pork' and meatless 'chicken' and gravy. I thought I'd seen it all with the veggie corn dawgs! Will wonders never cease? Of course I bought them--gotta support that!
Amarantha, if you don't mind I'm going to steal your idea of 1500 calories 6 days, 2000 one day. I like the idea of having a little something extra one day a week! I'm with you, counting calories has been "the way" for me. Like it or not, calories do count. And it's done wonders for my math skills----really! When I met Susan Powter she told me that she takes in between 3000-4000 calories a day. Well, God bless her---wish I could have that much! Maybe if I had her energy.... I also want to make sure I take all my supplements this week. I've parcelled them all out into their little compartments for the week. I don't know why it's so easy for me to forget them. Gotta make it a habit. Have I mentioned---I LOVE THIS THREAD!!!! :D |
Saturday--Feb. 7, 2004
coffee w/ ff 1/2 and 1/2
spinach frittata 2 'sausages' clementine 2 ww toast w/ humuus, spinach, peppers, cucumber tomato soup spinach frittata 1 c. ww pasta w/ butter buds, brocolli snax: ff vanilla pudding w/ strawberries and banana Snickers 'Marathon' bar calories: 1475 fiber: 26 grams fat:42 grams water: 7 cups exercise: 3 miles walk If you haven't tried it yet, the snickers 'marathon' is good, but I'm not deluding myself that it's anything more than candy. I'd have it again when I'm in a candy bar mood though. Best thing about it was it was chewy and lasted a while! |
