my little goddaughter sent me the girl scout cookies i ordered from her a while back. i gave away all the boxes fast, because the couple of boxes i was planning on giving to a friend (when i saw her in a few days) began calling to me. my friend may be out the cookies (which she didn't even know about anyway), but those cookies are no longer here to call to me. felt good to get rid of those things. granted, it would be even better not to let them call to me, but recognizing that they wouldn't last long in my apt. without ending up in me and taking postive action felt pretty good-a moral victory!
have been sticking to my pre-planned menus the past couple of weeks now to keep it very simple during pre-move stress. has been working well thus far. plan to do same again tomorrow. |
:yikes: Wsw, you are a Demon Food Slayer extraordinaire!!! You GAVE AWAY ALL YOUR GIRL SCOUT COOKIES!!! :cp: Good job! I hear tell the judges have awarded thee 10 blue ribbons that look like bananas! They're waiting for thee at the judge's table:
:cb: :cb: :cb: :cb: :cb: :cb: :cb: :cb: :cb: :cb: Thou be a better DFS than moi! A moral victory of the highest water!!! Huzzah!!! :cookie: NOT!!! Saith Wsw!!! |
thank you, amarantha, i will collect those blue ribbons (looking suspiciously like bananas)!

PS, tomorrow is the end of my original 21-day challenge. It didn't go as planned but all in all the enterprise was quite successful as I definitely have more control of food and have lost some weight and shed some elderly jeans. Hopefully, the trend will continue, but if it doesn't, I'll just try harder. I appreciate everyone who is participating on this thread as it's really helped a lot!
Elberta Crone saith thankee! :thanks: |
Yo!
Elberta Crone hath made a surprising discovery: If one buyest the 4-pack o' peanut butter cups instead o' two 2-packs, one saveth 40 calories of worthless sugar and fat because the little cup things are smaller!!!! :jig: :cp: :balloons: It be stuff like this that maketh EC's day!!!
In keeping with the quest to include more whole wheat, I found some REAL whole wheat spaghetti (not the "blended" kind that masquerades as whole grain but is really made with refined flour). It has considerably less calories than the white or blended kind and 7 grams of fiber per serving. My blood sugar is already thanking me and I haven't eaten it yet. Tomorrow I am going to try to make spaghetti alfredo with low fat alfredo sauce, cottage cheese and the whole wheat pasta! Amarantha's Saturday menu: 2 apricot bars (140) EAS Carb Control Vanilla Shake (100) 1 apricot bar (70) EAS Carb Control Vanilla Shake (100) EAS Carb Control Vanilla Shake (100) 4 smaller size pb cups! :s:  (420) EAS Carb Control Vanilla Shake (100) 1/4 cup Scottish oatmeal (75) 1 T. turbinado sugar (45) Butter Spray (10) 1/4 cup Scottish oatmeal (75) 1 T. turbinado sugar (45) Crabcake (170) Corn (70) Brocolli w/lf cheese sauce (50) EAS Carb Control Vanilla Shake (100) Apricot bar (70) Total: 1740 |
About yesterday----don't ask....Let's just let that day slink away into oblivion. It was G's birthday and it was a feast day, but I overdid it. One of those 'in for a penny, in for a pound' kinda things.
Stepped on the scales this morning and I'd gained 4 pounds since yesterday morning. Impossible, I know, but still a little demoralizing! Let us never speak of it again....... |
Yo, Demon Food Slayer Eydie, worry not, it's just water weight from a little extra food. It's all good! Eating a lot in a day is actually a cry from thy metabolism, saith Elberta Crone (though she be not asked and have no scientific evidence to back this up). To maintain a healthy weight, she saith, you've gotta keep the ol' metabolism happy and thinking that every day's a feast day, so she saith thou probably did the right thing ... and humans were made (EC also pontificateth) to celebrate things with food ... it be not wrong, just has to be balanced out.
As for Amarantha, she had a good caloric day of 1680, won't bore thou Slayers with the menu as it was singularly uninteresting and contained too much Scots oats and sugar. No interesting experimental recipes from EC as she hath gotten all excited about a kitchen gadget called THE ULTIMATE CHOPPER she saw on ye TV (she's weak minded and infocommercials get to her) and she be determined to have it, so we'll see what develops! |
I've had a great food day! Sometimes it's worth it to have a couple of truly appalling food days so I can see how glorious good food can be! I'll check back later. :)
|
Well, I had a good calorie day: 1765, but it was a sugar-laden nutritional deficit! :yikes: The Sugar  be loose in Amarantha's neighborhood! Drank two EAS Carb Controls this evening to even out blood sugar! No use typing in a menu here, as thou canst guess what's on it!!! :s: Later ...
SUGAR  GET OUTTA TOWN!!! We don't want no sugar around! Sound off!! Sound off ... etc. :drill: :drill: :drill: |
Sugar  's been attacking in this cold spell we're having!!! And I never got my healthy muffins baked. Here's my really not so healthy menu for today:
EAS Carb Control vanilla shake (100) 1/4 cup Scots oats (75) T. turinado sugar (45) EAS Carb Control vanilla shake (100) Butter Spray for day (10) 4 small pb cups (420) 2 lf mozzarella sticks (160) 1/4 cup Scots oats (75) T. turinado sugar (45) EAS Carb Control vanilla shake (100) McDonald's cheeseburger (330) EAS Carb Control vanilla shake (100) EAS Carb Control vanilla shake (100) Total: 1660 This exercise of posting a menu is really helpful as I found a math mistake and ate less than I thought, so I COULD (but won't) have another shake tonight. I think it'd be a good idea if I bought that handheld calorie counter thingie to start using when things get hectic in the spring. Where be the  Food Slayers? |
Yo! This be my third lonesome postie in a row ... saying bye-bye to this thread as I think it's dead! That rhymes! :) :s: :jig: See thou all on the other threads!!! Yowza!
|
AAACK! Don't leave, Amarantha. I'll stay if you will. Sorry I haven't been on in a few days. I've been lazy and tired at the end of the day--a condition my father always referred to as 'pure sorriness'! :o

Yo! Ok, dokey, sorry Eydie, dinna mean I was mad or anything, just thought maybe we were easing off on this thread and I dinna wanna push it. I like posting my menus here but not all by meownself so if you're staying, so will I!!! :s: I totally understand being braindead at the end of the day. I think I'm kind of overtired as well but here's my menu ... the recipe for the muffins is on the main thread ... the crabcakes are frozen, BTW, and not super healthy but they don't have transfat so I think I'm ok with them ... maybe will try making my own soon ...

Hi all....
Just a few minutes ago, I tried a WW's Chocolate Smoothie mixed into my coffee... its a full calicum serving and since I only mixed it into the coffee its only 1 pt... and I thought delicious... :o :o Only issue... in my opinion, a little pricey but I am going to see if there are .. sf equivalents in the grocery store.. I know the sf hot choc brand used at my job advertises that its calicum fortified and if I'm right, 1/2 the calories but may not have as much calcium....BUT it is made w/ Splenda which DH tolerates better than the other SF substitutes.. .... and yes, I not been here much either but I've just been stretched in too many directions this week.... Sorry you got left all alone Empress... Am interested in the blueberry/cottage cheese recipe... think I might have all the ingredients here in the house. hmmmmmm... |
That sounds good, Kaylets ... yea, a bit on the pricey side, but I think the "smoothie" aspect makes it sound like a Starbuck's special thingie or something.
Sorry I were cranky about no one coming to the  Food Meetings ... been hangin' around w/Elberta Crone too much, methinks. She's extremely cranky these days due to lack of sugar in the palace! Blueberry cottage cheese receipe? That soundeth quite good. I know a lot of people who eat blueberries with their cottage cheese in the summer ... I've blended both into smoothies. It be extremely cold 'n rainy in Amarantha's neck o' the woods and she be taking the royal carriage to the mountains to work tonight. Will post today's menu tomorrow as I'm keeping to the straight and narrow and watching food like a hawk. Later ... |
I just wanted to share that I have spent the last 2-3 weeks in a state of dehydration. I haven't been drinking much water at all. I have had to really refocus on getting several good "gulping" sessions during my workday, and it has helped.
I've just gotten down my first quart and am filling up my drinkie bottle for another... |
Wow, for breakfast this morning I had chocolate. CHOCOLATE! I don't know what happened there. I was at work setting up a reception and there it was. -possessed I guess. Well, that's it. Just wanted to purge my soul. I'll check in later---maybe I can redeem myself!

Tomorrow will be better. |
Yo, Demon Slayer Cerise, congratulations on thy victory over the  Dehydration ... I have to fight that one, too. Shall go drink a glass in thy honor!!! Huzzah!!
Huzzah to Demon Slayer Eydie for thy eight fruit/vege servings to balance off the chocolate/caramel treasures (I don't think I want to know what those are or how to get them!) ... but chocolate DOES have antioxidants, so it's all good. In thy honor, I'm going to have an EAS Carb Control Special Dark Chocolate shake for dinner ... :s: I'm lucky to be on today because of the storms, will post my Friday menu tomorrow because I'm not done eating!!!! Tried to conquer the sugar on oatmeal thing but got a worse headache than I've had for a month, so it didn't work. Thursday's calories were up by mistake as I forgot to write down the brown rice until I sat down to post this. Thursday's menu: EAS Carb Control vanilla shake (100) Pear-Cheese muffin (95) Butter spray for day (10) 1/4 cup Scots oatmeal (75) 1 T turbinado sugar (45) Pear-Cheese muffin (95) 1 1/2 serving Apricot/Curry Chicken (155) 1 serving fruited brown rice (250) Asparagus (20) EAS Carb Control vanilla shake (100) EAS Carb Control Vanilla Shake (100) 1/4 cup Scottish oatmeal (75) 2 T. turbinado sugar (90) Pear-Cheese muffin (95) EAS Carb Control Vanilla Shake (100) Pear-Cheese muffin (95) 2 Pear-Cheese muffins (190) EAS Carb Control Vanilla Shake (100) Total: 1790  |
Ok, I found more math mistakes in my written journal today so put the daily log on a spreadsheet and here it is for Friday (I haven't had the last carb control shake ... and I do know I'm drinking too many of them but it's transitional) ... I think I'm going to try the spreadsheet for awhile but order the nutrition calculator I want so I can carry it around ... or not, dunno ... later ... maybe index cards for carrying and the spreadsheet for once a day! I'm obsessed with calorie counting!!!! Yowza!

Yo, the coconut marshmallows sound interesting, Eydie!!!
I'm having much fun calorie counting. Love my new spreadsheet and am going to buy colorful index cards per Kaylets' suggestion so I don't keep making math mistakes in my journal ... so busy sometimes that I just scrawl stuff into that book or forget about it. That could make a difference and sabotage my weight loss!!!! Yowza! Will be back later with a menu! |
Ok, Elberta Crone be nagging at me to close the kitchen, so I'm posting my menu and my totals for the first week of my new initiative. Again, I caught a math mistake I made on the index card (love this idea ... bought pink and blue index cards and a card box to keep both the empty and filled cards and am periodically updating the spreadsheets, but I forgot to write down 90 calories, found it when entering into the spreadsheet ... this could make a big difference over time). Anyhow, I'm about to eat the last meal of day ... it was a high day but I made all my initiatives for the week ... exercise and calories. The initiative again is for a weekly average of no more than 1500-1700 cal; I had an average of 1790 and for 390 minutes of exercise; I exceeded this by 80 minutes!

Hello all!
Empress- Maybe I should ask for more nutrition details on EAS shakes... Maybe they have a website...I could take a look... Saw an interesting recipe this am on the CBS Saturday am "Shoestring" segment... Pea and Carrot soup... So I made it... and almost gave myself a small stroke when I found out that 1/2 cup of cooked split peas is 2 points! The whole time I thought peas were 0 points! hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm........ I had plenty of points to spare tonight but what a suprise...Not even sure what made me look to see if there were points... So... peas = lentils ( cooked dried peas/lentils) Guess that makes perfect sense..... Its a shame ... I thought I had figured out another zero point soup... . SO I can relate Empress... 4 points here, 90 calories there.... sometimes we just don't realize... we think we're doing well but we learn every day.... and Eydie-- hats off to you for only eating 4 of the marshmallow thingies... I'd have not stopped till the package was gone.... Think I better go tell DH about the peas... |
Kaylets, I'm pmg thee!!!
|
I remember the coconut marshmallows from my childhood. They were so easy to find then. Empress, they're full-sized marshmallows rolled in toasted coconut---very tasty indeed, and a reasonable treat, if you don't eat the whole bag! ;) Interestingly, I found them in the Passover foods section at the supermarket.
Here's yesterday's menu: Coffee w/ ff 1/2 and 1/2 orange juice hi-fiber bagel w/ 1 tbsp. cream cheese, egg sub. 2 stuffed grape leaves w/ 1 tbsp. cucumber sauce 4 coconut marshmallows :D sweet potato-veg.-tofu Thai curry with rice FF frozen yogurt w/ caramel and pecans Here's something crazy: Garry and I lost our minds last night and drove 90 minutes to the closest Thai place for dinner. It's insane, I know, [his idea!], but I'm proud that I went and did something spontaneous and weird. Good to go out of the comfort zone once in a while! Hey, where's Ceara? Haven't seen her in a bit. |
Yowza, :queen: E, that soundeth fun to zip out to a Thai place and congrats on the good job thou did there foodwise!!!! Thy menu looketh good!!!
Seconding the wondering about Ceara! Hope she be ok! No weight gain, no weight loss for me! So shall continue on in the same vein!!!! I had a few more of the carb control drinks last night as wasn't feeling well. That likely slowed the scale weight loss a bit but it's a mere bagatelle (sp?)!!!!! Gotta go! Will post menu tonight!!! |
Elberta Crone hath declared the kitchen closed for the night! Here be Amarantha's menu, not great healthwise but chasing those cals back closer to the 1500s:

Greek food is salty!I'll have to drink lots of water today.} |
Pay no attention to  Scale, Eydie!!! He's such a liar!!! Thy menu looketh good ... I'm having a pita with prepackaged salad, precooked chicken, fat free mayo w/curry powder for lunch ... Old Dog knows the chicken's in the house and is staring at me as I type!
Will be back w/full menu either tonight or tomorrow. Working in mountains tonight. Have already had pb cups but everything else looks good for a healthy calorie day. |
Monday

I have to correct that immediately! The thing is, I'm really hungry! I feel that i'm doing more strenuous workouts---would that make me hungrier? If that's the case, I have to make sure that I have better choices ready. Too much bread-y stuff lately. |
Yo, Eydie, I've been hungry lately also ... and craving bready things, hence the healthy baking spree. I know the healthier muffins I've been making have really kept me away from donuts, at least, if not from pb cups.
I bought Bill Phillip's BFL cookbook yesterday. I really love the recipes and will be playing with them soon ... they are just right for me. Gotta work now, going to gym later (sorry, not a food item, but yes, I do think the extra exercise makes one hungrier, so IMO it's really important to eat satisfying healthy food and make every calorie count ... so the journaling and counting do seem important IMO!!!) Here's my yesterday's menu: EAS CC van shake 100 Pear-cheese muffin 95 Pear-cheese muffin 95 EAS CC van shake 100 Pkg. of two pb cups 230 EAS CC van shake 100 Chicken breast 150 Whole wheat pita 160 1/4 package spring mix salad 10 2 T fat free mayo w/curry powder 20 EAS CC van shake 100 EAS CC van shake 100 Oats/2 T. turbinado/butter spray 175 2 pear-cheese muffins 190 EAS CC van shake 100 Total: 1725 |

I'd post yesterday's menu but I didn't write it down---I know it wasn't bad, but it wasn't the greatest either. Feeling a little depressed actually---I'm really proud that I worked out today; I was inclined to blow it off.
|
Yo!
Be of good cheer, Food Slayer Eydie!!! It's hard to feel like journaling everyday! Congratulations on working out when you didn't feel like ... actually, I haven't either ... the ups and downs of the weather and repeated sinus infections are messing with my head, but I'm sticking with this unless the thread dies off ... cooked a whole pot of barley with mushrooms today and divided into individual, calorie controlled servings. Am thinking it will go good with salmon ... am proud that though I did stop for pb cups on way back from mountains tonight, I only bought one package (2 cups), though I wanted to go on a binge ... here's my menu ... using a spreadsheet makes posting this a breeze ... I just copy and paste ... haven't really been archiving each day ... I just type over each day's entry on the spreadsheet ... make notes on index cards until I can get to computer:

Yo, I found the barley at a supermarket chain we have here (Basha's). I just happened upon it next to the soup! Guess they think it's a soup ingredient only.
Thy menu looketh good, Eydie!!! Thanks for posting it. I'll be back with mine later. I bought a little hand-held blender and some fruit to make a smoothie as I don't feel like dragging out the big smoothie machine. I saw another blender there that was like the smoothie machine but had an individual travel cup that you blend in and then just take your smoothie and go. The travel cup keeps it cold and is spillproof. I was so tempted but decided to wait on that and see if the little hand thingie works out. I just want to make quick smoothies, not have a big production. Later ... |
I'm tempted to do this some days - maybe today's a good start.
2 slices whole wheat toast spread thinly w/pb grilled cheese on whole wheat - no butter or spray 1 apple (Western Red Delicious) no sugar added ice cream est. 200 calories 2 Viactiv 40 cal. 2 rings canned pineapple - 40 2 small slices meat loaf lettuce, cuc, onion salad w/It dressing I intend to have another snack before bed. Currently planning to nibble on a serving of Kashi Heart to Heart. Alternately some salt free pretzels. Still a bit low on water for the day. Have had four cups of tea and one can of Tab. |
