Good morning ladies,
Sure was a heart pounding back and forth baseball game last night. I am happy for all those Cubs fans who have been waiting forever and never gave up hope. Their usual mantra "... wait till NEXT year " finally came true. Geez it was a long game though. I wanted to go into the hot tub. Put some chemicals in and let it run for an hour. Also ran the dryer to throw a bit of heat into the 3 season room. By 10pm there was still clearly another hour of the game left. Then they went into overtime. I told DH I would watch it for one more inning only and then I was going in the tub. I am glad they wrapped it up in 10 innings. I imagine the city of Chicago was in chaos last night. My friend said there was all sorts of fireworks and other such mysterious noises going on long into the night!
Yesterday itself was a bit frustrating. I had an early morning therapy appointment. I got there, checked in and was waiting on them to call me into the area. Sat about 7 minutes and when the girl therapist (new one, not the guy I usually have) came to get me, she said "oh I just called your house looking for you. Which made me

because DH just LOVES to give me krapp about being late ALL THE TIME when I am NOT. I said to her - well I have been sitting here for the last 7 minutes waiting for you to come and get me. If anything, I was maybe 2 minutes late. And what's the big deal any how? You walk in, they immediately put you on the stepper for 12 minutes while they go back and sit in their office. Then the timer goes off and you wait for them to come back while you sit there. Sometimes the next thing they do is put you on the bike for another 10 minutes and go sit back in their office. I dunno - this girl rubbed me the wrong way from the get go. When she put me on the bike instead of the single level I have been working on (enough strain for my knee) - but no, she put me on the FAT BURNING strenuous program. After 2 minutes I thought I was going to die - I am not strong enough for this. I tried calling her but she was sitting in her office staring at her computer. So finally the receptionist noticed and called her out. Then she had me do some squats that were equally too much strain again. We went into the room and she went and measured my leg. She complimented me on the range of motion to which I replied - well that's NOT my operated leg you know. She got

and measured the other one. I was 2 degrees less on the operated leg so doing well all in all. After therapy I went to Walgreens to get my pain meds filled. I waited 15 minutes at the drive up and all that time they didn't even acknowledge the car in front of me. I said this is B.S. there are 5 pharmacies in town - why continue to put up with bad service? So I pulled out. Passed the gas station that has the deli with great sandwiches and picked up a meatball sub for DH. Stopped at the thrift shop to get some numbers I needed for my monthly report. Then I popped in at the hospital - the orthopedic guy told me that they were going to be in town on Wednesday holding office at the hospital and I needed to return the crutches they lent me. By then it was shortly after 12 and they were already gone which was a pain as I have to walk almost through the entire hospital complex to where they have their offices. I was starting to feel the intensity of the morning's therapy session. I stopped at the hospital cafeteria and got their lunch special of a cup of tomato basil soup and an egg salad sandwich on pumpernickle bread - all for $2.75. Stopped at the pharmacy in the building where I do therapy and they filled my prescription in less that 10 minutes while I waited. Less time than I spent just waiting in line to get acknowledged at Walgreens. And I walked out, pills in hand. I was also able to ask the pharmacist if it would be ok to take a PM type pain reliever (those with the added Benedryl) to supplement the night time oxycodone and help with sleeping through the night. He said that was fine. I am really afraid of the oxy and overdosing although I am on such a tiny dose it would not matter. I would prefer to be off everything although I am seeing a TINY bit of improvement at night. I know I will be on this stuff - at least for the night - for a while.
DH got a bit miffed at me. He is hurrying to finish the deck rails - the spindles on the railing as well as the topper on the rails. The topper is what they call "drink rails" - I dunno - a board maybe 5 inches across instead of the more compact hand rails. So the problem is - the stain he used on the decking is very nice but water totally beads up on it. That makes it almost icy slippery in the morning dew. I need to be able to hold on to a hand rail when I do stairs - both with my weaker operated knee right now and going forward with my arthritic other knee. I will always need a bit of support. The drink rail topper is wider than my hand stretched out. So I have to grip the side of the board which actually "pulls" on the entire piece of railing. I could hear it pulling and cracking as I did the stairs yesterday. So I told him right away that this is NOT going to work out. It looks pretty but is not functional. At first he got really p.o.'d which of course got me all nasty and mad too. Functional HAS TO TRUMP asthetics here. I was also angry that he didn't even ask me why I felt it was bad, just got annoyed. After 10 minutes he said come outside and he asked about it. I told him my concerns. He said I should not be pulling on the railing for support. I said I'm not, I can't grip this properly. We talked a bit, he may need to install a side bar along the railing for me to grip. He got miffed because he is chasing time and the decent weather trying to finish up everything and he has alot to do yet. I cannot help him with it at all. If he doesn't get the rest of the railings done, it will create a problem with storage because we have the wood out of the wetness and in our garage so we can't bring the cars in. He also bought a very large portable work bench and drawers to work on and now that takes up with the deck rails the last bit of room we had in the man cave. (Man cave is full with the UTV, large John Deere lawn tractor and snow blower, ATV, a large 4 piece cabinet set he wanted for our living room in TN that we have no place to put in this house and several boxes that should be gone through. The weather for the next 4 days is unseasonably wonderful - running about 20 degrees warmer than it should be. It's sunny - I wish we could go for a ride and enjoy it but we can't as he needs every spare minute to work outside. He is even forfeiting this week he paid to borrow that camera lens to test out. I need to suck it up even if I am not up to speed and go rip out the last of the garden, go through a few more boxes in the garage and take advantage of the better weather too. AND STOP WHINING.
Ceejay - I can totally understand how you might be feeling a bit unsettled after moving and then not really being able to settle down. I do hope that the house repairs go quickly and you can really get established for good. I thought it was amusing that you were complaining about traffic - is there more where you are now than back in Arkansas? Thank you - yes I have made some great memories. You will also. Always fun to discover new and interesting things.
Anne - oh oh - is Sam dating someone Momma ain't too keen on?

I have to believe no matter how old your kids are that watching their selections for partners has got to be tough. Especially when you're opinion isn't very welcoming.

Your Sassy sounds like our Nina - looking for closeness for warmth and just feeling safe. And a bed hog too

As for your wishing what you can't have - I hear you sister. Sometimes I think the same and then I am reminded to be careful of getting what you wish for -

Jacob does not eat candy? WOW - how did you pull that one off. Yay for him. I am hoping your washer and dryer hold up - I can imagine the beating they are taking. I have a giant pile of cat blankets to take to the laundromat - don't want all that animal hair clogging up my septic system. Bedding is also extra rough on the agitator as are towels.
Poor Shad - the colonoscopy prep not doing well? When I had it they gave us some "flavor" packets to add to the drink. The first 2 cups were not bad but the more you had to drink, the more wretched it became. I thought people were saying there were pills you could take - just had to be mindful to drink alot of water to "push" things through. Good luck with all that. You have all our sympathies.
Laura - how were things downtown this morning after the Cubs win? Although I imagine it was more crazy in Wrigleyville. Will you get to see the parade from your office building? How did your hair come out - just a trim or did you do something different? Did BF get the mattress home ok? Did you sleep on it last night?
Hi Susie and the rest of the chicks

I need to get my arse in gear. Tonight is another cooking class. They are making venison (deer) many ways (not keen on this) and DH is bringing some bison steaks for chef to cook. Double ugh.

But chef has got me to try some things I would not have otherwise eaten so I am keeping an open mind.
