  • Good Morning my fine, beautiful creatures of the worldly type!

Friday, payday, GONE already. Oh wel,l money in thank God so money can go out...right?

Big news for me...lol... My boss allowed me to order a stand up desk. Now all you can do is stand up and use it but at least I will be up and down a little more. You can go to Varidesk.com and see what I ordered the Pro 36 plus and the stool. Many of the associates on this floor have them already and are using them at least 50% of the time. Hoping I like it.

    SUSIE...how did the interviews go?

HAPPY...hmmm, must be the week to get frustrated and miffed at our DHs. Sometimes I just want to smack some sense into C. Not often, but there are occasions. I mean, if they would just do as we say their lives would be so much easier. lol. The time waiting on PTs must be universal. When I broke my arm at my shoulder and had to do PT, the gals did the same thing. Got me started on something then went to their office and sat. No attention to me if I was doing the exercise correctly or not. Bah. I need a job like that. How is the knee feeling? Seems my ankle pain is nil but the rest of my body has achy issues. Is the ankle taking a toll on my body or am I just getting the old age crap? Probably a little of both. The guy Sam is dating is ok, but just have the gut feeling about him. Maybe I just need to go to the bathroom. lol.

LAURA...I am saving my voting for Tuesday. Hopefully the line won't be too long. Maybe everyone in my area voted early. I already told my boss that I am voting Tuesday on the way to work, so I will get here when I get here. He said he voted early and only waited about 30 minutes in line. Good for him. Any luck with the raffle tickets? Win anything? Did you get to sleep on the new mattress last night? What did you think of it? Better than the old one?

CEEG...Not much longer now till you are in your new home. Yeah!!

Another busy day, tomorrow is Samantha's BD so I am taking a couple of hours of PTO this afternoon to get a few surprises done. She has to work the fund raiser for Jacob's Pre-K class tomorrow.

    Have a wonderful weekend...HUGS ALL
  • Morning all. Happy Friday. I was lucky to get a train quickly and one that's not jammed - I even have a seat to myself. I expected a bad situation because today is the parade and rally to celebrate the Cubs and their World Series win. I'm relieved - I wouldn’t have gotten on a train without a certainty of getting a seat because of my heel. And I didn't want to work from home today because it's my last day at work before I'm out of the office for over a week. So I'm in the train and except for the constant chatter, all is good.

Annie - Let us know how you like the new desk. I wonder is the accommodate an adjustable keyboard tray with a separate mouse tray. Happy birthday to S. Hopefully with all the early voting, election day polling place lined won't be long.

Happy - How annoying re the PT & pharmacy line. I'm not really a fan of any drive up except maybe ATMs.

Train's pulling in, gonna cut this short. BBL.
  • Hi everyone! I have noticed recently that the forum is not as active as it was back when I signed up, so I've been reading through some threads I never visited before. Great group here, very supportive of each other, and I notice that you are all long-term members. I have gone through some of the things I've read about here and can sympathize.

Good luck to all of you!!
  • Afternoon all.

It’s been very quiet in the office today – I think a lot of people worked from home to avoid the big crowds for the Cubs parade/rally. Can’t argue with that. I lucked out with my train ride, but the walk from the train station to the office was somewhat slow because of the big crowds.

The parade route was not where we could see it from our office. It actually started up at Wrigley Field (north side) and ended up at Grant Park, well to the east of the central loop downtown area. I hope my evening commute is back to near normal.

Bf hasn’t picked up the new mattress yet and we’ll go together after work today to get it. It will be easier with two people. This is just a new twin mattress for our daybed, so it’s unlikely either of us will be sleeping on it anytime soon. We bought a very basic mattress, but not the cheapest one. There was a noticeable difference between the one we bought and the next one down, even though the difference in price was only $10.

I had my hair appointment last night. My stylist was back from maternity leave, so that was nice. I had a touch up and trim, nothing different than usual. Before I left the house for the appointment I remembered to put in my contact lenses. I didn’t really want to because my eyes felt awful because I was so tired. But I did anyway because I hate sitting around without my glasses. I couldn’t stop yawning during my appointment!

When I got home I took them out right away. My right eye was irritated – I probably rubbed it too much during the day. I went to bed at a decent time and fell asleep right away. However, I woke at about 3:30 to go to the bathroom and my right eye was bothering me. I couldn’t get back to sleep, so I took my book into the living room to read for a bit. I eventually got sleepy and even overslept because the alarm went off, but I’d slept on the living room sofa and didn’t hear it! But bf did and came out to ask me if I was working today – uh, yes!

I already did the check-in for my flight tomorrow and printed my boarding pass. Just need to pack up and get myself to the airport. The weather is supposed to be good tomorrow both here and in MO, and I hope it’s also good from wherever the plane is coming from so there won’t be delays. Fingers

That’s about it for me. I’ll try to post next week, but it probably won’t be much since it will be from my phone. Ceejay, I’ll PM you my cell phone number, and if you could PM yours to me that would be great. I will try to figure out quickly what day/time might work best for me.
  • Good Morning.
I had to go to the house in Battlefield yesterday morning to let in the man who needed to look at the floor where we had a carpet pulled up to lay the new laminate. Good news is they start laying the floor on Monday and I will be back in my house on Thursday. I'm getting excited.
Last night I had another sick spell. The first one we know was a virus. Guess I could have picked up a bug while I was out and about yesterday. Better this morning
Looked up my voter registration status this morning on line mainly to find out where I am to vote and what I needed to take with me to vote. I will vote Tuesday. Missouri doesn't have early voting. sigh.

    --------
Hi Carol Sue. You are more than welcome to join.

    Annie
I've seen those stand up desk. Not sure I would like them, I was up where I used to work.
    -----
My sister has challenged me to be a weight loss buddy. And I've accepted.
  • Happy Saturday morning chicks,

Supposed to be a FANTASTIC weekend - close to 60 degree temps. About 25 degrees above what it should be. I need to get off the computer and get outside and enjoy it. Even if it's only mid afternoon when the temps are at their best.

Yesterday we went to our favorite Italian restaurant for dinner. I did enjoy one glass of wine. Dinner was great too - ate half and will have the other half for lunch today. But LOTSA garlic. WHew!!!! I also pulled the shower chair out of the shower and tried standing. I still can't stand for long periods of time but I did ok. Will have to get used to regular life again - no shower chair at my sister's! My arthritic knee is starting to bother me faster than the operated one - that's good. I need to get more stabilized before I rush into the second operation. And that means past the pain (which is diminishing) and most importantly - get sleep. Last night I was going to suggest a short outing to the casino after dinner but I was too tired. I crashed in the recliner and slept deeply at least 90 minutes. Forced myself to get up as it was going on 8:30pm. I went in the hot tub and was in bed before 1am. Was really surprised to wake up near 10am today! Lazy bum!!! Maybe I need to drink more wine - really I only had one glass of mild moscato as I don't want to mix narcotic pills and alchohol. Outside of my knee aching and needing an ice pack this morning, I felt pretty good. DH ran out to do some errands, I think he plans on working more on the deck railings when he gets back. He had to go buy more black sunflower seeds for those hungry turkeys. Now they come up to the house and bark loudly when they want to be fed I guess they gave birth to the whiney, annoying generation at last

Ceejay- hope you are feeling better. Remember you are in a different area with different stuff floating through the air. And the chaos of the last few weeks. Will be a lot of changes over the first year. I bet you can't wait to get settled back in again.

    Carol Sue - welcome!

Laura - hope the new mattress works out. Have a safe trip - I assume you are picking up Mum to bring her back? Good luck with all you need to do. When I worked downtown I was at the corner of Michigan and Randolph (in the "ivory tower" ) Right where they turned at the Cubs parade to go to the park. I would have been right in the midst of everything except we would have gotten a good view from the 9th floor. I'm just not sure how difficult it would have been to get into the office in the morning. That was some parade! I have mixed feelings about all that dye they dumped into the river to color it.

Annie - argh - stand up desk. I know they are touting the benefits of standing but geez, people been sitting at desks for a hundred years. That would really bother me now - I still remember how badly I hurt when I was standing 9 hours straight at the popcorn shop. Good luck with your desk, I hope you do better at it. As for aches and pains, I 'm sure you will still feel a bit of residual weather related aches going forward. Just so they are manageable.

Shad - have you finished the very last test. You must be so tired of being poked and prodded at this point already. Hopefully this is the last of it, a clean bill of health for another 25 years and you can rest and then get back to full on Shad speed on projects and such.

    Hi Susie

ok, get busy Miss Happy. Hope everyone has a good weekend!
  • Hi all,
Feeling okay when I wake up in the morning, but it all seems to go downhill by mid afternoon when I need to stretch out for a nana nap. Then the bloating sets in and by dinnertime I am in pain. It's not unbearable, its bloody uncomfortable. The blurb says it will last 2-3 days. Well day three is coming up. It better get better.

Back tomorrow morning when I usually feel pretty good and fairly energetic.
  • Hi Ladies! I just read through the posts. You ladies are so busy but manage to get here daily. I need to be better at it--because I miss you all when I don't.!

My interviews haven't happened yet. Tomorrow is one and it is at 4:30 and the other one is Tuesday at 4:00. Thanks for all your good vibes, thoughts and prayers. If I don't get one of them, it will be ok as I like my role but I sure want one of those other positions.

Oh, and I did find my glasses--on my desk when I got to work...thanks goodness!!

Welcome Carol--great good of ladies here. I am the newbie..I think I've been here 3 years now. Jump right in!

Dee: Are you out there? I hope all is well.

Laura: I hope things go easy with packing mom and getting her moved.
I also hope your heal won't give you too much trouble since you will be on your feet a lot.

Anne: Sorry that you have to be in the boot 2 more weeks. I agree with Laura, you will be very thankful on Thanksgiving to have this all behind you.

I think you will like the stand up desk. I use mine a good part of the day.

Guess what?! I'm going to be in Indy on Saturday with my DH and my BF. We are coming to the BOA competition. It starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 6:30 p.m. Maybe we can try again to meet? I expect at sometime we will leave the area to go get some lunch. Most likely at that Mall that is close to the Arena.

Ceejay: It sounds like you will be home soon! I hope you are feeling better.

Shad: Glad the colonoscopy is over. My DH had to do that prep and I could tell it wasn't pleasant. I hope you are feeling better.

Happy: You have wild turkeys that come right hope to you house?!!!
I know the knee recovery has been tough but really, I think you are doing well with it and making progress.

I need to finish getting ready for church.
  • Morning all,
It's cooled down a bit out our way, but is still warm. The humidity hasn't hit yet but no doubt will shortly. We seem to be having an invasion of the white caper butterfly (at least that is what I think it is) and I am hoping that nothing in the garden is attracting them to lay eggs and such. Love butterflies but they can be destructive from time to time.

Still no news from the keyhole surgery. The wounds are healed and the bruising is gone and I don't expect to get news from the colonoscopy until the end of the week. Waiting is hard but I said yesterday that it was time to start living again. Time to get on with life be it long or short. I am going to enjoy what is left. Accordingly, I am making plans for putting the vegetable garden to sleep for the summer and sorting out the house so I can get on with planning this RTW holiday that has been hanging about for several years.

Annie - have you come down to earth from the Cubs win yet. Good on them. Well done Cubbies. Must have been the brightest I see you have my favourite team (in the whole world) in Chicago this week - playing the Irish in Rugby Union. Unfortunately the All Blacks lost, but it sounded like it was a good game. I wait to see the result in the next game. Like the Cubs, the Irish hadn't beaten the Nzrs in 111 years. They have finally broken the drought.
Always good when you have the house to yourself. You do get past living with the kids again. I feel your pain.
Lucky you having a stand up desk. I had one in the last job I had in Melbourne. I loved it.
Hope S had a good birthday.

Susie - good luck on the interviews. Hope you ace the lot of them and then have to decide which job to take.

Happy - Yeah, I am totally with you on the weird appointment times that happen. I know when I had the keyhole stuff, I was told I wasn't 1,2 or 3 on the list so don't arrive before eight. When I go there at 7.45, they said they had been ringing me to find out where I was. Got home to collect the mail, and there was a letter telling me to report to the hospital at 8 yesterday morning. Then I got 2 letters reminding me to go for an appointment - they must have really wanted to see me! I would not have been happy to have been left to get on with it as you were. That's not any form of therapy. Sounds like the session from ****. I hope you are doing okay on the pain stuff now. It's been a while and I can empathise on the time taken as I feel exactly the same way and I am not in the same pain frame as you.
I hope you have sorted the railing now. Would it be possible to put another thinner rounder railing on top of the drink railing and glue and screw to the steps side of the drink rail. You'll never get a drink to stand up on that anyway - I know cause I have tried I know exactly what you are talking about here.
Your Italian dinner sounded good. Unfortunately or maybe fortunately I don't have my appetite back yet. But since the internal systems are beginning to resume normal operations, I think that will come soon. Were you Pepe le Pewwwwwwww?

Laura - I don't think I will ever get over that prep stuff. I spent a fair amount of time leaning over the kitchen sink with a badly extended stomach trying not to be sick and knowing that if I was I would probably have to do the whole thing over so I was NOT going there.
Glad to read that you have done your civic duty and voted. I am so over your elections over there. Why the heck does it have to take so long. Ours are all over in 6 weeks, change of government takes one week and then life just carries on. I don't envy any of you making a decision here - either the class clown (and a scary one at that) or the lady in a jacket with the supercilious smile and the smug hand gestures. I give no preferences for either. If I had a choice I would ask the Obamas to stay on based on a monthly contract until such time as you can find someone with decency and honesty and put them in the white house. At least with the Obama's there isn't a trail of scandal or a whiff of corruption, or mega mania reigning supreme. I should stop there it isn't my country and my input is beyond the bounds of friendship.
Is the mattress looking good in it's new home?

Hello Carol Sue. Feel free to drop in at any time

Ceejay - must be a bit of a pain getting in to the house and trying to get settled and then getting chucked out again for renovations. But it won't be long before you are permanently there and away from the family squabbles. It's tough living with family again after you have been on your own for a long time.
Hope you and your sister enjoy your buddyship in weight loss. Have fun.

I think I am now sort of up to date. I really need to get off here and go tidy up, dust and clean my room and start on the third bedroom. ODDU is asleep in the bathroom. It is quiet around here at the moment. I will go down to the garden shop shortly and pick up some more Echinacea plants. They were in the nursery hospital yesterday and I got three, I might need some more to fill in the area I am intending them to go. Garden is growing quite nicely now.
So be good or be careful
  • Evening all. The travel to my mom's went very smoothly yesterday. The weather is beautiful. Wish I could be spending time outdoors, but we're very busy inside.

We're very happy to have my nephew with us for a very short two days - he drove up from Dallas. Such a huge help.

We've gotten a decent amount done since we arrived. Still, I'm daunted by the amount that remains. I fear my mom's closet will be the worst. It's a giant thing and she has tons of clothing. The bulk of which she doesn't wear. And not just clothes are in there- I saw a lot of boxes filled with who knows what. My sister is taking a lot of items for both her house and for the thrift shop she volunteers at. I've taken very little. Much of it is not my style, and I have very little space for all the knick-knacks she has. And frankly, I don’t ever want to end up in a position like this.

More in that vein...When I talked with bf tonight before I came here to post, he told me about going to a friend's condo last night to help him fix a leaky faucet. I don't think I've been to their place since before they had their kid, who is now at least 5 yrs old. Back then, it was so filled and cluttered, I grew anxious just being there for an hour. Now bf tells me it's so much worse now. I feel awful for their little boy. He won't be able to have friend over when he gets to that age(soon). As it is, they can't have anyone over to the house, and how can the kid or the husband and wife feel any peace or relaxation in a home that most would consider to be that of a hoarder or hoarders? What a situation!

Going to knock off now. I'm tuckered out. G'night.

P.S. to Ceejay, I'm thinking Tues or Wed will work for me. I'll be in touch.
  • Good Morning! Last day of the stinking political commercials on the tube. Sick sick sick of them. And the entire process for that matter. Be glad when it is all over and we learn how to deal with whomever wins.

Saw a minion cartoon on FB...I wish all the fat on my body would fall off and turn into money. hahahaha

Busy weekend of this that and the other thing. Just busy. Went to 4 craft fairs on Saturday with my bro and SIL. Was a good time. We ate at Bob Evans. I had thee best veggie omelet and fresh fruit cup ever. I am usually not impressed with B.E. but this time it was extra good. Stopped at a Paparazzi jewelry booth. Got the cutest neclkace and matching earrings for 5 bucks. That was about all I purchased, oh did get some fresh roasted coffee from on booth. It was the best coffee I have ever tasted. No bitter aftertaste. Saturday evening was quiet at home. Boys were with their dad, Sam with a friend for her BD and C did not get home from work until 8:30pm. Me, Sass and Bruno evening. Bruno is getting a little klingy with me and so funny. Just like a grand dog. Yesterday was cleaning, laundry, no church as I couldn't get my act together. Thank God he doesn't take that attitude with me.

LAURA...mom stuff this week. Hope all goes well for you and you get to meet up with CEEG.

SHADDIE...still take it easy girl. You have been poked and prodded way too much for one week. The before and after of prepping for colonoscopy is much worse than the procedure itself. It is all just yukky. Take some sweet naps with ODDU. He will be your heating pad. Hugs sister, feel better.

SUSIE...fingers crossed on the interviews. Have to see how this weekend goes for meeting up, my son is supposed to come up and repair my kitchen sink leak. I think it is the garbage disposal. Not sure when or what time he will be here.

CEEG...the bugs are out there. Royce has a snot nose again, hoping it doesn't go through the entire family. Feel better.

HAPPY...the stand up desk is just the stand for the keyboard, monitor and laptop which adjust up and down. So you can either sit and work or raise the stand and stand up to work. It is all good. If things start bothering me, I will certainly sit. <---yeah we know my lazy arse will not take much uncomfortable standing. lol Glad you enjoyed the Italian restaurant. You sure have a wonderful DH. Happy for you.

HI CAROL SUE...nice of you to drop in, you are welcome any time.

Hey DEE, how are you feeling.

    CHELLE...have we lost you sister?

Make it a great Monday, 4 day work week for me, we get Friday off for veteran's day.

    Love and hugs.
  • Evening all. Weary as all get-out in one way, but needing to wind down the day, especially after bf lectured me over the phone on how to deal with my mom. Taking way too many clothes and linens with her. I will talk to my sister about trying to get my mom to take less and donate more. Take more time to cull down what she takes and less time packing it (currently being done with the thought that she'd save money not having the movers pack all of it vs just packing fragile & hard to pack items). Otherwise I fear she will be awash in boxes of stuff she has no room for in her tiny new home, and then having to go through this process with her all over again. Big sigh. Enough of the whining.

Annie - Yes, oh so tired of the political ads. I try to mute them as much as possible. As a fledgling minimalist, I commend you on buying jewelry (small, easily transportable) and coffee (consumable) at that craft show.

Shad - Sorry your colon screen prep was so awful. Glad it's done & you're getting on with life, especially the RTW trip!! == we're so over our elections here too!! I'm almost certain not many voters are relishing our civic duty this time around. No need to hold back your thoughts - I've been curious how other countries are viewing this election & candidates.

Susie - How was interview #1? Good luck with the next one tomorrow.

Happy - Hope you enjoyed the lovely weather weekend. Yum, Italian food. I like garlic a lot, not too much of it!!

    ==
My nephew headed home at about 6 pm tonight. So glad he came & helped us out. And he's such a nice guy. Wish we got to see him more frequently.

More decent progress today, but the load is still heavy with the deadline looming.

Okay, time to post & read for a bit. TTFN friends.
  • SHort post this morning. All is good in Indiana, I think. Stood in line exactly one hour to vote. Got out of my car at 6:14 and back in at 7:14. At work by 8 am. Must get busy, came into 2 fires. Sheesh.

LAURA...may the force be with you!

    Hello all.
  • Laura
It was good to finally get to meet you. Sending good vibes as you finish cleaning out your mom's house.

    Annie
I got in line to vote this morning at 9.14 and back to the car at 9.41. The line was moving at a good pace.

    Shad
Try not to over do things until you get stronger.

    Happy
    I miss my recliner.

    Susie
I'm anxious to hear about your interviews.

    --------
Went back to Battlefield today to let the guys in the house. Girls, my floor is beautiful. They were going to do the bedrooms today so I'm hopeful that I will be back in the house by Thursday.
  • Thanks Ceejay, i need those vibes! It was wonderful meeting you face to face today- so glad the timing worked out. I love your Southern accent!
