Good Afternoon! It is COLD in my corner of the world today! -13 at 6am warming up to -6 right now. The sun is shining and a breeze is blowing. The furnace is running nonstop which is good. We had 70 people in church this morning; some of the rural churches canceled their services. We went out for breakfast after church and now are home until we go play cards at 6. Other than reading the papers, scooping litter boxes, and putting away the island clutter, I have nothing else planned for today.
Susan, 59 degrees sounds like "shorts" weather right now! I think the older I get the more I notice the cold. I hope we hear from the generator man this week although I sure don't blame them for not wanting to work outside in this weather. He said the power would be off for 2-3 hours and I don't want to be without the furnace that long either.
Hope you are toasty warm wherever you are, and enjoying the rest of your day!
The temp dropped so low last night our water lines froze so we have no water at present (except some we saved before this happened). We knew the temp would fall during the night so we filled up a large pitcher and a gallon water bottle with water. There was enough for us to use to ready ourselves for church this morning. Will is out there now to see what he can to free up the hose that leads to the MH. If he can’t get it freed up today we do have enough water to get by with.
The preacher today preached a good sermon and from the pulpit thanked Will for the idea and some material for it. This is the second time he has done that and the people are getting used to just “who Will is.”
Nothing much else happening around here today ~ we ate at Sonic for lunch and I ate my chili dog without eating the bun and didn’t finish my tater tots. Tomorrow is weigh day and I have been bad and didn’t write everything down that I ate and am afraid I will be up some at weigh in. Oh well ~ it will be, what it is.
JEAN Going out for breakfast is good, we like to do that sometimes and it is treat for someone else to make it.
SUSAN Yes that is as far as I have gotten is "thinking about my doll making." When the weather warms up and I clean off this table where I plan to do my sewing on then I will get to it. Right my wooden planter in which I plan to have an herb garden sits on it along with other misc. things. That is my excuse and I am sticking to it.
DONNA FAYE I do hope all went well with your treatment. Let us know when you feel up to it.
Hey gals. Short and sweet as I am not feeling up to par. They had to repair a colon perforation with my hysterectomy which of course worries me. I came home and felt pretty good until Sat afternoon then started having problems. I wasn't passing gas nor having bowel movements and it kept getting worse. Since the surgeon who did colon repair just dropped me on my gynos lap and the office is closed on the weekend I had Jack go to the pharmacy and talk to her about it all. She recommended the gas x stuff so i took it 2-3 times but my bowels still weren't moving and stool softeners weren't working. Long story short took some gentle laxative and finally did something this morning. I am hoping it will continue to work. On top of that, I have had bad nasal congestion. It is so bad i cannot breathe through my nose. Lots of dried blood up in there. Finally got relief using simply saline a few times and opened up passages when i blew out a large bloody mucous. So having a rough time but wanted you to know the surgery itself went fine and was done lapro.
Good Afternoon! It's a cloudy cold day in my corner of the world, but just a bit warmer than yesterday at 14 degrees. With the breeze it has that damp cold feeling, feels like -4 according to the Weather Bug. Counting went fast this morning since there wasn't much money and the regular gal is back. I was a happy camper!!!! The gift shop has had all Christmas items on sale since the week before Christmas so the deposits have been better there. I had checks to write so returned those to the hospital after lunch. Bob has practice tonight so supper will later. Supper (for me) is blueberry pie from the coffee shop. Bob gets leftovers along with his pie! Last night I won high at the card party. They have "high" prizes for men and women; I got a new deck of cards and a $10 gift card to the coffee shop downtown. I beat Bob by 10 points which is unusual, he is lucky at cards.
Maggie, I'm so sorry about the water pipes freezing! I hope Will can figure something out to fix it. Good luck at WW tomorrow night!
"Gma," it's nice to see you peeking in today. I hope you feel better each day!
I have towels that should be dry and another load in the washer. I'm trying to make myself walk on the dreadmill when I go downstairs for laundry duty. Enjoy the rest of a marvelous Monday!
Good morning to you all. I am finally starting to feel better, a big part from being off some of the meds. This has been a bit tougher than the other surgeries even though less invasive and I think a big part was the meds. I was on an antibiotic that really messed with my gastro system and pain meds that always mess with it. I am hoping they are out of my system or pretty much so I can get my strength back. It screwed some with my blood sugar too and have to get that back where it should be. I never had high blood sugar but did get below what it should be.
I have been doing little things like laundry, though I don't pick up anything and I used a chair to fold stuff into the basket. I do morning dishes and depending on how I feel dinner ones and help with dinner if I feel up to standing up for any period of time.
Our son will be in town this weekend to help his sister with some stuff so hopefully we can have lunch or dinner on Saturday with him before he goes back home as he is on his own.
I have lost weight with all this, around 12-13 lbs so hopefully I can get back to eating correctly and not gain. He had me on a low fiber diet, which IMO didn't help me either with my previous colon problems. I am going to fix myself an egg and toast for breakfast this morning.
Jean: Yum I love blueberry pie though cherry is my favorite. I grew up eating pie for dessert so it is my preference I think. Unfortunately, pie is one of those things that don't come out well sugar free or at least I have never had one that tasted very good. Sorry I haven't been in here. I just didn't feel up to doing much of anything.
You all have a great day. I am going to fix some breakfast.
Good morning, ladies! 36 degrees this morning which is a big improvement over the previous 3 days when it stayed in the 20s.
I have my knitting bee this afternoon. Yesterday I finally went and got a pair of Alegria shoes. They are a bit pricey but oh so much more comfortable and they will go with my jeans which I wqear 90% of the time. I never knew uniform stores had such pretty shoes. I'm going back to get a pair of dress shoes and a pair of sandals.
Donna, I'm so glad you are starting to feel better. Take it easy! Think about how good you are going to feel on your next cruise. Is your son still thinking about moving to NC?
Jean, just standing up and walking in place during tv commercials can add up to 1 mile in an hour. What an easy way to exercise. You can keep the cold. I don't think I could stand it. I always feel like hibernating in winter.
I don't like pie crust and now that I can't eat it I make the filling and eat that. I make a meringue crust for lemon pie and put whipped cream on top. My favorite Italian restaurant just added gluten free pizza to its menu so I will be going soon to get a slice of white pizza.
Good Morning! The sun is shining and it's 30 degrees outside! Crafty Club is today but I decided I needed to stay home and get a few things done around here. I'm making a WM list so hopefully will only have to make one trip there next week.
"Gma," I'm glad you are feeling better! Getting back into your normal routine will help too. Do as much as you feel like and then relax. Hope it works out for you to see Jay when he is there.
Susan, I will take a look at Alegria shoes since I've never seen any around here. The local shoe store is expensive but doesn't have a large selection. What project are you knitting on now? Have fun this afternoon.
Not much newsy from here today, and I need to get busy. Hope you all enjoy a terrific Thursday!
I bought a Fitbit at WW meeting on Monday evening which is so cool. You wear it on your wrist and it monitors heart rate, workouts, caller ID, a watch (accurate time), exercise mode, records exercise on line; auto sleep +alarms, wireless synching to smart phones and computers, and has a long battery life. What a neat little gadget that does all of that. I got it through my WW meeting but you can get them at sporting goods stores and other places also. There are several models from which to choose from. I am currently charging it on my computer as I type. It comes with a wire that connects to the computer and to the device and charges it. I understand the charge lasts for a week on the device.
DONNA FAYE Just take it easy and don’t push it to get back to exact with your housework. It will be there when you are feeling better for sure.
Good morning to you all. Well I ventured out with Jack last night to buy a new dishwasher. I rode in an electric cart, didn't exert myself at all then we went and got dinner. I ate about 2 bites and couldn't eat anymore and he finished and we left. I came home and got sick around 9 PM and am not feeling too great today so obviously I am not ready to be out and about quite yet. I will just take it easy today.
Our new dishwasher is special order so it will be a couple weeks. We bought a Bosch as I am tired of buying cheaper dishwashers. I got one with a flat panel so I don't bang my hip into the handle too. It should be here in a couple weeks.
Wednesday we have someone who is coming to clean up leaves and debris, trim bushes and clean gutters for us. He did ask Jack why the home owners' assoc wasn't doing it. Besides the fact their cheapskates, they consider it our responsibility because it is behind the gate.
Susan: Cute shoes. I can't wear them because of the build up, but I found a cute mary jane style with sunflowers all over them I liked. We canceled our cruise for this year. Something came up that ended up being much more important. Hope you get no snow this season. I am already urning for spring. Ok so how do you make a meringue crust that will hold up to lemon filling? I am interested
Maggie: I know what Fitbit is. My kids all have them as does Thomas.
Good Morning! We are back in the deep freeze this morning; heading down to single digits tonight. The wind is blowing which makes the cold feel even colder. The sun is shining and it has changed position enough I can see the dust on my curio glass shelves. I braved the grocery store this morning and stopped by the church to pick up my updated 80+ birthday list. I'm staying home and inside for the rest of the day! I need to get back to my list making and work on the clothes pile.
Maggie, I have several nonWW friends who have Fitbits and really like them. I personally don't want another challenging technology gadget that I have to learn how to use. Have fun using your's.
"Gma," does your new dishwasher have the tray where you individually place the silverware in slots? I'm not sure of the brand but have seen pictures in magazines and thought the concept was interesting. I assumed all dishwashers heated water during the cycle and that's not so. It really bugs me when my time flashes 90 minutes even though I know it only runs for an hour because I don't use heat to dry. This time of year I open the door to let the steam out. I'm sorry you had to cancel your cruise since I know how much you both enjoy that.
Hope you all enjoy a fantastic Friday; do something nice for yourself this weekend!
We have been out food shopping today to replenish our supply. Funny how things just disappear and you have to get more. We try to get smaller cans of stuff for just the two of us but that doesn’t always work out for not all foods are packaged that way or the store doesn’t handle them.
DONNA FAYE What model of Fitbit do your kids have? There are several ones and mine is the one that has all those other things on it also. It is second to the most expensive one that has a couple of features I didn’t need on it and is lacking a couple of the ones that I have on mine.. Mine is the Fitbit Heart Rate + Activity Wristband where every beat counts. I also put a couple silver charms on my band and one is a little flat tag ¾” x ⅜” and a couple silver keys that are ⅝” long. The silver tag has MAGGIE inscribed on one side and FOCUS on the other. The keys stand for “I have the keys for the program.” I have them on a jump ring that goes on the buckle and dangle down toward my hand. I hope your kids have personalized theirs and have a Fitbit that is suited to them.
JEAN The Fitbits aren't just a WW item and they are very easy to use and I don't think you would have any trouble.
Good morning ladies. I am up and around for awhile. We will be having lunch with Jay today but that is it for me. I am just want to get recoup time better and I need to stay home and rest as it makes me really shaky and such to do much away from home.
Jack just went to Lowes to exchange some clamps he bought that don't fit. For now he has to put a small piece of plywood under the countertop to screw the dishwasher into and the clamps he bought won't open wide enough.
We are skipping grocery shopping tomorrow until next Saturday as I think it is too much for me to do at this point even riding in a scooter. We have plenty of groceries except for odds and ends like veg and fruit.
Maggie: I have no idea what Fitbits they have but I am sure it is top of the line because all three run marathons.
Jean: We were going to buy the one with the silverware thing, but I told Jack that after about a month he would get fed up loading the silverware one piece at a time into it's slot so we didn't buy that one. Oh btw, that one is a Bosch too. We bought the one that runs half loads since it is just the two of us. It is supposedly so quiet that it has a red light that shines on the floor to tell you it is still running. I bought it for the half load capability mainly.
Everyone have a good Saturday. Going to balance the checkbook and then watch "Law and Order."
♪♥♫ GOOD AFTERNOON IN JANUARY MAGNOLIAS

We just got back from getting some plastic containers to store some packaged food in to put it in our little wooden building. I hate it when the mice can get to the cans and leave their droppings all around. This way if any mice do get in there they won’t get to the food for sure. Mice like to eat the glue that holds the labels on the cans. We are limited to space in this MH so it is nice to use the shed sort of a pantry for us. We are able to get several cans of whatever they are running a special this way. He has installed some shelving to put some of the cans & packaged food up and out of the way along with Deacon to kill whatever mice appear.
Will is snoozing in his chair with Bennie snoozing draped across his lap. The side effect from these chemo pills he takes is his having to take naps. I am sure glad, and so is he, that he doesn’t have any other of the horrid side effects that some folks get when taking the pills.
I am planning to make some Scalloped Potatoes, Ham and a salad for dinner this day. I am going also to really heat up my shower area for I plan on taking one this afternoon. I don’t like to take them first thing when I get up in the morning when it is so cold outside but summertime is great for showering in the morning. The shower in this MH works great. Right now it is raining with snow mixed in. Burrrr.
DONNA FAYE I don't know how well the Fidbits work for runners for everyone I know that has them use them for walking. It is good that you are taking it easy and easing back into your routine.
Good Afternoon! It's a cold windy day in my neighborhood; 3 degrees when I got up this morning. We had a snow shower of huge lazy flakes for a couple hours and now the sun has come out of hiding. I haven't accomplished much this morning. I got lazy and didn't clean my steam iron often enough, so now it hardly steams at all. I'm thinking a new iron is on my WM list. I baked some frozen cookie dough cookies this morning and they turned out good. I think they were a Zowie fund raiser. Girl Scout cookie sales will be going on while we are gone, but Maddy has already asked for my order. There are two boxes of Thin Mints in the freezer from last year.
Maggie, I'm glad Will is doing well with his new medication. Naps aren't all bad. Scalloped potatoes and ham sounds really good. I haven't fixed that in a long time.
"Gma," I hope you enjoyed your lunch with Jay. Does your new dishwasher have two separate compartments? A friend bought one of those because one drawer was smaller for just the two of them. I don't blame you for passing on the commissary shopping.
I have sheets ready for the dryer and another load for the washer so better keep moving. Tomorrow is church and I doubt many will be there with the minus temperatures. We have several elderly widows who are so faithful about coming, and I worry about them when the weather is bad.
Good morning, ladies! We've already had our high of 40 degrees today and it is now 36 and falling. We are having sleety rain and it's supposed to become snow. A good day to stay inside but I did go to Mass.
Not much going on. Since the Harry Potter books are now available on Audible, my plan was to get one a month. I forgot how good they are so this month I got 3. Of course, that means I have to spend time quilting so I can listen. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Boston Butt was on sale for $1.29 a pound this week so that will be in my crockpot with garlic, salt, pepper, and onion powder for the next 16 hours. Half way through I pour off the juices that have accumulated and its like it was roasted. I got the recipe on Nom Nom Paleo. My other crockpot has beef stew in it.
Faye, I'd love a dishwasher that does half loads. As it is, I only run mine once or twice a week, but I do run a rinse and hold every other day. I'm sorry your recovery is going slower than you hoped. Bummer about the cruise.
Jean, you are always such a sharing and caring person but you really could have kept you snow and cold.
Maggie, there is a class action suit against FitBit because they are so inaccurate. I have one and never use it. A man's doctor told him to never let his heart rate rise over 160 while exercising. His FitBit HRM gave him 82 and if it hadn't have been for his trainer, telling him it was 160, he could have had real problems. He started the class action suit about a month ago. I wear a VivoFit by Garmin because its waterproof and I can wear it during water aerobics. The reading always closely match the readings on the machine at they gym. Mine uses a 2032 battery and downloads by wifi to my computer and smartphone. I love it.
