New Mom Needing Weight Loss Buddy
Hi I'm new here, and looking for some support and hopefully, to somehow be a support to others. I am a new mom of a 3 month old, and a bit depressed with my physical health with regards to my wieght and inactivity :( I need to get active and make healthier choices with my eating! :o So I'm doing it the old fashioned way. I need to lose 50+ pounds, and I need to get happier with myself :) Is there anyone in the same circumstances who would be interested in supporting each other?:?:

Thanks for the note Christie. I'd love to have your support. I'm 25 and have a little baby, so I don't have a lot of opportunity for exercise. You said you have 25 pounds to lose, if your goal weight is 145 then you only have 17 to go. I was also reading in your journal that your high was 205. You have done great, keep it up. I'm not sure either waht my high is I was 216 when I was 9+ months pregnant, now I'm 201. So is my high considered 216 :?: My goal is 147, I think that's it's reasonabe. I just started my weightloss yesterday, so I'm a bit motivated now, but my motivation usually fades quikly. Notice I said usually, I've done this before. I lost 20 pounds, then gained 22 :o then gained 22 during my pregnancy (not bad I figured). It's the 22 pounds that I gained before I got pregnant that I regret :( My goal is down 2 pounds for labour day. Then 6 more by Thanksgiving (Canadian Oct 13) which is also my b-day. Then 10 more by Christmas. This is my problem, I make goals too far in advance and then have a hard time reaching them, and then get sad and eat and well you know....

I totally understand where you are coming from! I have yo yoed for 9 years and am so ready to break this nasty cycle! I am hoping Weight Watchers will be just the nitch I need to do it, plus I am in Tops and the meetings and weigh ins are a definate lifesaver! I missed about a month and a half and gained 10 pounds :( BUT I am now accountable and not just eating to make myself suposedly (feel better). So how is being a new mom? I know there is not a greater feeling than to have someone that loves you unconditionally and depends on you so much. I will do the best I can to help you stay on track if you help me.... I am sure we can do this!! We have too.....our kids depend on mom tooo much to let food keep us from being able to enjoy them ;) They were and are my inspiration to stay as healthy as I can so I can do all the things I missed out on....my mom died when I was 4 and it makes me thankful for everyday I have with them, I prayed VERY hard to be able to lose the weight and be here for my girls, now I just have to get back on track and try not to ever lose focus again! My oldest suffers from being overweight too so I HAVE GOT to show her there are other ways to deal with pressure and food isnt the only comfort there is, she saw me eat when she woke up in the middle of the night when she was smaller and I know it had a lasting effect on her. She is only 9 and weighs 147 so I have her on WW with me. Hope you got some sleep tonight and trust me you are definatly getting in exercise with a baby :lol: |

I understand the gaining 10 pounds when you were away form TOPS that month. I regained my 22 pounds when I moved to a different town (with no bike paths) and started a new job. I found my self not keeping in tabs with myself and my weight and voila....a massive gain. :mad: I feel bad for your daughter. I was overweight since my high school years and that was tough, but it must be even tougher as a child. I hope you and her both do well on WW. There is a WW an hours drive from where I live. It's just not worth the trip for me. I'm hoping to get my support from my husband, sister, and people on this website. :?: I'm still wondering if you or anyone out there knows the magic rule, how do you figure your high weight? My highest was when I was way pregnant, as I'm sure it is for a lot of women. Anyone? :?: :?: Another question, do you or anyone out there know of a weight tracker on-line? I used to use one on Cyberdiet, but now they have a fee for members, and I'm not into that. I found the chart very useful it showed the ups and downs very well. This site should set one up. I use my highest weight as the highest from pregnancy but I was using the 185 because it was pre pregnancy weight , also on the food chart site I think there is a way to do it on other sites and I will look it up for you and get back to you ASAP. Oh and on the WW ..I am doing it from home and not the meetings, I cant afford the meetings so I am getting all my info online and I did go to the office for WW here and buy the companion shopper book and a recipe book to get started, it was well worth the money and I only paid 20.00 for both. Now it makes it easy to count points when shopping because I make my list before I go since I know the points beforehand. I try to get 25 or less a day, and let me tell you ...ths weekend has been the roughest one I have ever had!!!! I'm sorry that you've had a rough weekend so far. But, it's not over yet. Maybe go for a walk with your daughter and that will be a good end to it. :) I've had a good weekend but that's because my husband is home and there's always something on the go, but look out during the week. Actually this week I'm going to my Mom's 3 days all day and having the baby at a sitters. I'm helping my mom to pack for moving. This will keep me busy. I do worst when I'm alone, so it should be a good week. I'm oging ot weigh tomorrow as I haven't weighed in a few weeks. I hope the news won't be too bad. Well, I should go and make a late supper. Yahoo for you, you didn't cheat. :cb: Well, I didn't either today, as I was busy helping my Mom move (ughhh). I weighed in today and it was worse than I thought. 202, I thought I might actually be less than 200, but nooo. :mad: I really have to do something about this. Wednesday I'm at home alone all day, it won't be good. I'll be snacking all day. Why is it that weekends are more difficult for you? My husband is at home watching me then, so it's haard for me to cheat. Although he eats alot (high metabolism) and I find myself eating more because of it. We both did good...thats wonderul! The reason weekends are so hard for me is that my husband and I used to go out EVERY weekend and celebrate his days off with food, we ate lots of mexican food and unhealthy stuff and it has been a habit of ours for about 3 years now to do it. So this was our first weekend we didnt go and it was so hard not to give in to it :dizzy: Oh and I have a tip for you on the eating all day while you are alone....Buy LOTS of fruit and clear out all unhealthy stuff from the cupboards that way all you will have available to eat are the right foods, it works SO well for me....well I am off to bed as well :D ...catch ya tomorow!! |

Hope you had a good day. :) Igot my physical exercise running up and down stairs with boxes. But (why must there be a but :( ) I ate poorly at both lunch and supper. I hope I burned it off. I'm holding my baby, rocking and typing, very difficult. Thanks for the tip, my problem is that I will bake something if I want it. :mad: My worst time is the afternoon, and tomorrow I'll have company then, so I should do ok. Do you find that you have a bad time of day? I gained a ton of weight when we lived in the city and went to restaurants all the time. Here there are no good restaurants, good for the health and wallet ;) Have you ever tried the Atkins diet? I think about it from time to time. But I've heard about some people who once they could eat regular food, gained all the weight back. It seems to work for some though. Just a thought. Take care, Diana |

Sounds like you did get quite a workout today :dizzy: I am sure you burned it off though, you will do better tomorow ;) I did the Atkins diet for awhile myself and just as you said, I gained it all back and then some :( I mean it was horrible....I lost 14 pounds and then gained back about 17 to 20 ! Now some people do really good, But others like me , just cant live without bread and potatoes for the rest of their lives ... I love pasta too and soy pasta isnt my idea of spagetti :lol: But if you decide that is the plan you want to follow I will do my best to help in any way possible, I know what you mean about the baby crying and you typing at the same time, it is only something us moms can do...we learn how to do what we have too when we need to get things done. Hope your day goes well tomorow and if you feel weak or tempted just pop in here and write it out, I found it really helps to get your mind off it....nite nite sleep well, you deserve it :) |

Well, today is going okay so far. I think I can't try any funny diets if I want to keep it off. The problem with diets is that one day you will eat "normal" again, and then regain the weight if you haven't made lifestyle changes. I was bulemic at one point and lost weight, but you know that has to be stopped, and voila gained weight. Hey, I just found a thread, New Years goal. Why don['t you join me there and make a Goal for New Years? Maybe yours could be to lose 17 pounds and be at your goal weight :D I thought it ws a good one to join. I am sure we can lose 17-20 by then :D I am also glad to see you are going to do this the right way, like you said...most of these diets are temporary fixes and I know just by increasing the amount of good foods and avoiding the high fat and loaded with sugar choices we will be doing it right, Its really just a matter of eating less in the longrun. Glad you're feeling better. Hey, I noticed a new weight, you lsot 3 pounds :cb: That is absolutely fabulous! Tomorrow is the weigh day for the New Year's Challenge, don't forget. I had an okay day. Could have done better, could have done worse. I've had my baby a the sitters 3 days this week, and will do so 4 days next week, and a couple days the following week. Makes me feel guilty, but I have to help my Mom with this moving, we'll all be glad once that's over. I hope to go for a walk yet tonight with my hubby and baby. I'm nervous about tomorrow's weigh in. Hope you're having a good day, how did it go without your girls today? How did they enjoy their first day back at school? I went to Tops tonight and lost 3 pounds from last week and about had a fit :lol: I love WW ;) Dont be nervous about weigh in ...you have been doing great and it will show :D The girls loved school and I made it through the day with out cheating once, even had to erase some points I didnt use....that was a new one :lol: I have my 1 month old nefew tomorow so I will be too busy to eat while he is here...he is very clingy. I will be sure to weigh in tomorow on the challenge thread and remember ...Your doing GREAT!!!! |

That is great for you that you're doing well on WW. I lost 2 pounds, and I'm quite happy with that. My aim is for just over a pound a week. Next week I hope to be under 200, and never to see those numbers again. :crossed: I'm not having the best of eating days, I really have the munchies as it's rainging outside. That seems to do that to me. My baby isn't wanting ot sleep today, I think he's over tired and can't fall asleep. It's almost time for his next feeding and he still hasn't napped. Oh well, at least he's not crying. So how is your day going? I hope well. Is your nephew treating you well? 3 month olds are a bit easier than a 1 month old. Best of luck, Diana :wave: |

That is wonderful!! I just know if we even lose one pound a week or even maintain, we will be doing good, I did the program at Tops last night and tried to encourage the ladies to at least shoot for a 1/2 pound loss every week and it will add up to a victory before you know it...I mean that is 24 pounds a year ;) And it is SO worth it :D ! I jusy dropped james back off to his mom, and boy did he wear me out today LOL, he tummy was hurting and it seemed like he just couldnt be comfortable, I fely sorry for him and rocked him and walked him around as much as I could. Hope your little one gets some sleep today, And I understand about wanting to eat when it is rainy I am the same way:o Just be sure to load up on fruits and veggies and you'll be fine.....Catch ya later tonight!..........:high: |

Hope you are doing well so far today, I too had a rough day yesterday food wise, Weekends are the worst for me:mad: I want to eat like I used too when they roll around, but it is all in my head and I am working through it best I can, I did stay within my points but it was sure hard! We have some friends from church coming tonight and it was hard to figure out a meal that I can feed all of us and still stay on track but I think I found it ;) I will have a cup of spaggetti, 1 breadstick and 1 slice of low fat lemon pie I make myself and end up with 10 points for that meal. Wish me luck today I will need it...you said weekends were easier for you but I will still say a prayer for ya :angel: |

I hope you're supper went well. Low fat lemon pie, that sounds good. I did good today except for one snacking episode. I bought the cheerio/pretzel mix and hubby and I had quite a bit. I've done really well today otherwise. I also got quite the workout as I cleaned my whole house today. I had the baby in the Snugli while I vacuumed the whole house, and even broke into a sweat. He fell asleep while I was vacuuming, interesting. I'm just really waiting for the crop on our field to be swathed so that I can go for walks on it. I hate to walk on the road because of hte traffic, so I never walk now. I hope you have a good evening with your church friends. Diana :wave: |

Sorry I didnt get back to you sooner....I got a virus on my new computer and had to go back to the old one :( Oh well it may be slower than molasses but it works right?? ;) I did great the night I had company and have continued my WW all weekend without a hitch, My hubby took me for mexican today but I ate within my points and feel really good about that, I have about 8 left and I have a microwave dinner that has 4 so I will be fine, How is everything on the homefront for you?? Bet the baby loved being snuggled up too mom while you cleaned :D Well got lots of e amil to check LOL check back with ya a little later!! |

Sorry that I was not responding. I didn't turn on the computer yesterday and today I was at my Mom's moving again. I'm getting rather tired of it, but one good thing is that it's exercise and it keeps me from eating. I've done good today, but not so good yesterday :mad: I should lose my goal of 1 pounds this week with all the moving and cleaning I'm going to be doing. Sounds like you're doing well, sticking to your points and all, that's great ;) I'm getting a little overwhelmed that this summer is coming to a close, it's almost September :( There's so much I should be doing. I am so proud of you for watching how you are eating and being as busy as you have ;) I remember when the girls were little...seems like I never got caught up with the house or anything else for that matter :lol: But I will give you a piece of advice my grandma gave me at the time...mind you I got pregnant again 9 months after the first one was born :o She said....Honey it will still be there when you get too it ;) And ya know what she was right...ITS STILL HERE LOL (just kidding) But in all honesty my house was never perfect or even close while the girls were younger I mean I am still cleaning deep down and they are half grown! There, I went and put the baby down so now I can type using all my fingers instead of jsut the one. Sorry that I'm not on the computer that much these days. As usual I was at my Mom's all day. In the evening our pastor couple came to visit, a baby visit they called it, a bit late but still great. They're leaving our church the end of September and we still don't have a replacement. Oh well, it's all in God's hands. So how have you been doing? Have you been exercising? And how's your eating been? Do you find that you eat while the girls are in school? That's my bad time, when I'm all alone. Although, I'm not alone, my boy is learning from me already, I really don't want to teach him the bad food and health habits I have. I'm going to have to be very aware of what I do around him. I'm going to weigh in tomorrow as I'm going to town and can weigh myself at the clinic. My scale is suspicious, before, it was 0 when nothing was on it, now it shows 2 pounds when nothing on it. Weird. I want to know what I really weigh and then I'll have to set my scale accordingly. Well, I should go to bed soon as tomorrow is another cleaning day at my Mom's. Oh fun (note the sarcasm). Today was not a good day for eating, not too bad though. We went out for lunch, and I should have had a salad, but didn't, and we had cinnamon buns for coffee break. I ate a very lite supper, beets and yoghurt (just what I had in the fridge). Your advice from your Grandma is good, but some things won't be there when you get a round to it. I want to do canning from my garden, but don't have the time, and soon it will be too late. That is AWSOME!!! :D:D I always hate to call anyone a loser but in our case it is a wonderful name to be ;) So working at your moms had a few benifits I see.... WAY TO GO!! I am a Loser too so we are both doing really well and I want to say thank you for being here for me, It is so much easier knowing someone else it there to help through the rough times ;) I actually joined WW yesterday and went to my first meeting! I am paid up for 4 more so we will see how well I do in that time, I only have to show up once a month so the 44$ sign up will be all I am out if I reach goal by November, then if I hit goal it is free to attend every week free of charge. I hope to hit their goal by then but we will see...they want me at 144 but I am happy at 150 I think, cant remember honestly LOL, Hows that baby??? Well I guess I had better run off and start the day...catch ya a little later ! |

I know how you feel being home alone and wanting to eat...I fight everyday since the kids are gone not to just pig out on account of lonliness. I am glad to see that you are getting to relax and spend more time with the baby, I know it feels good to be able to relax ;) Did you get some fruit for days like today? I bought strawberries and bananas and rasberries and apples so I am ready! My family reunion is tomorow so I am taking a fruit tray....wish me luck! I will need it, and I hope you have a great weekend also :D Well the laundry and dishes are behind so I had better get them in check just incase someone needs to stay here tonight......... :wave: |

How was the family reunion? Fun I hope. Did you stay on track? I did good on Friday, went for a walk in teh afternoon, that's when I usually eat. Today I did bad. I've done worse, but still it was bad. I got a bit of exercise today, if that counts for anything. There's always tomorrow. Had chocolate (too much) and cheerio mix snack and pepsi. Ate okay for meals, it was just my snacking that was so bad. I feel so guilty, and I don't think that I really enjoyed eating it. I think I actually felt enslaved to it. I hope you two don't mind me dropping in like this.... But I recognized you both from my challenge and while reading your posts I confirmed you both are Christians... After reading your posts I have 2 things to add.... (one) Fitday.com is a great tool for weightloss and tracking your progress. It has one of the best progress charts I have seen, and it's free.... And (two) Your ultimate high weight is what you weighed right after having the baby.... I love seeing how you guys banter back and forth and how much you encourage each other.. Keep up the good work! You guys are what this web site is all about... Faithful Friends! May the Lord bless you and keep you! And by the way.... Don't forget to post on the challenge! Everyone needs to hear your progress! Well looks like its finally here ;) Monday blessed Monday :D Now it is easier for me to get back to my points and stay in them LOL, Diana ...looks like we both had a moment of weakness I ate too much Saturday too so we are both guilty :dizzy: :lol: BUT today is a new day and there are no mistakes in it right?? ;) We can just jump right back on track and forget about the goofs and go on and win this battle :D Plus we didnt do like we used too and we are determined and that is what is going to make all the difference :s: ! I t must have been a good feeling seeing your before pictures and to see how much you've lost. The people must have been impressed to, or did they say anything? I hope you're having a good day. Our field is now cut so I can go for walks :) I'll have to go today, maybe even 2 walks. I'm sure baby would enjoy that too :bb: He likes to go outside. Thanks for the encouragement, I really need it. Guess how many walks I did today, NONE. :mad: I did mow the lawn (riding mower) and that takes 4 hours. So I guess I'll have to go tomorrow. At least I ate pretty well today. Probably because I kept busy. Tomorrow I want to work in the garden, that should keep me away from the food too. :)

I am embarrased to say that I havent started exercising yet...I know I should and I know it will just help me to reach goal faster but just havent been motivated in that area yet....I did have a lady call me though and ask for a walking buddy...so I will be sure to get with her and start, I think having someone to go with may help, Lord knows I like to visit and I am sure it will make the time go by faster. Good job on eating well yesterday :D I am sure you will do good at weigh in! The girls are really liking school so far and I am so glad... makes it nice to know they actually enjoy it and that they dont dread it like I used too :lol: I was never really big on going myself :dizzy: Well I guess I had better get to cleaning the house...I have been so lazy lately, I think it was just nice to kick back after the summer home with the girls ;) Catch you a little later...... |
