We are aherd of our time
Thought it was time for a new thread.
I have looked in seven furniture stores for a sofa and I finally found one. YAYYYY!!!!!!! They have -800 of them. That is they need to make 800 to fill the orders. The story is they make them in the U.S. but use thread from Asia and Asia sent the wrong color thread. But he promises mine will be ready when I need it. Heard from u-know-who. He's ok. Everybody can relax now. Sugar, if you have something MORE BORING THAN THIS TO POST, I'D LIKE TO HEAR IT |
Bye cowiedoodles
Have a nice weekend. It finally cooled off here, just in time for us to leave town (I hope it's fairly cool there when we have to lug suitcases and instruments up dorm stairs).
Painter, are you sure DH is not just trying to get your goat? If mine said that to me while I was exercising, you can be sure he was trying to be funny. Congrats on the sofa, Cowpeach, I hope it's not a long wait. I can't believe they go to school in July, Sugar! How gruesome! How much time do they get for vacation? I'm helping pack the car right now: I'm holding the dumb cat (the smart one is hiding from the confusion) so she won't run outside and be stranded for the weekend. I'd just let her be dumb, but she doesn't eat what she hunts for, so I don't want her to be hungry (I'm a softie, even for dumb cats) Kiwi |
HI all,
Now we have two Bunco players.....maybe we'll get invited. I went to NYC yesterday with DD, my cousin, her son and her other son's girlfriend. What fun. The son(17) was rude all day. He could not keep his hands off his brother's girlfriend. He did not talk. He would not walk with us. DD was pleasant all day, though we did finally stick to ourselves and make our own good time. i would say how reiieved i am not to have such bratty kids, but sincs ds11 crashed the babysitter's golf cart which he wasn't supposed to be driving.my bragging rights have been curbed. The Lion King was like one of those shows that they have at Disneyworld. cool effects, adequate performers. many of the voices were too weak to project through the theater. it was ok. it cost about $400. from the beginning to the end of the day, for that much i was hoping for better than an ok day and lousy company. why would peachez care about thst old coot????? somebody get her a dr. laura book to straighten her out. i would whine about the weather, but then bagz would gloat. i couldn't take that. i'm going to curves, bye. |
Yes, Lushwoman, we are lucky to have NOT bratty kids. I say that while mine is still in Pennsylvania. How can people in Pennsylvania stand to have to spell that all the time? Did I mention they went to Washington and ds thinks they saw the president's car?
The weather here is Floridian. Hot. Muggy. A bug's favorite climate. Dr. Laura will straighten me out? Yay I insist that Sugar post now. I am tired of waiting. |
sissy, i am expecting you to help pay for damage to golf cart because
1. you should have offered to babysit. 2. the nephew should have stepped in as a role model to ds11. 3. dr laura says so |
I am proposing a new theme ... one that has more philosophical and religious significance. We will all change our names:
Sugar = Esther (the beautiful young queen) Bagz = Moses (bossy enough to part the Red Sea) Lush = HeeHaw (the little donkey. a VERY important part) Kiwi = Jonah (because she has a boat) Cherry = Mary Magdalene (good hair) Wabby = Solomon (didn't he write the one about glass houses and throwing rocks?) Painty = Martha/Mary (whichever one was a cleanie) me = I dunno. Does Jehovah sound too extreme? If so, then I get to be Solomon (wise) and Wabby has to be a gambler in the temple. We'll make up a name later. Ok, discuss and change your names. p.s. to sissy. Blow it out yer shorts. |
I am shopping for mattresses and trying to use the internet. I am looking at Simmons Beautyrest. It is impossible to decipher this stuff. The furniture store man, Buddy, showed me a queen size for $599. He had more expensive ones of course. I called him and told him I was trying to find these things on the internet and what was it called. He said each store has their own name for the mattresses and I had to look for 800-coils. I have looked. They all have 825 coils. Does anyone know anything about mattresses. It's for DS. Getting him Queen size because he long and getting longer.

Don't blame me, I was off having fun!
Just got back from the picnic which was a lot less bad than we thought it would be. Sort of sad to know that the class is breaking up. They have to go to another school for grades 5 and 6. Their teacher has been at the school so long she says the kids of her former students are now attending. She lives with her mother and weighs about 250 lbs, I'd say.
My brother and family have now officially moved to Nova Scotia and Mummy is a bit upset but she'll get over it. We can't get over until next year but that means she has a year to fuss and prepare. Have I bored you enough or should I go on? Beastly hot here, no a/c, thunderstorms aplenty to break up the monotony. Will spend all day tomorrow throwing stuff out. |
I am testing my new signature and I am SO PROUD OF SUGAR FOR JOINING ME in trying to pack. Or whatever she's doing.
I have two questions: 1. What language does Sugar argue with her dh in? 2. Do Canadians have porto pottys? A Canadian woman I met on the net is getting a new house but she says the workers peed in the sump hole and it's yuckkkyyyy. Says there's no porto potty. |
i say throw the kid on the floor with a futon. then, get yourself a new mattress.
i have a sealy. it is fine. i think all the main ones are fine. really, how picky will he be? 500 sounds like a good price. it really hurts my feelings that you called me a donkey. |
I just got a phone call from the "home" where my mother is saying "I just want to let you know your mom was involved in a scuffle with one of the other residents. No one was injured. Just a little disagreement."
Honestly, I am so lucky that Lush got certain genes and I didnt'. Sorry I hurt your feelings. You can be Methusula. |
Wowie Zowie Cowie... whatEVER gave you the idea that I'd be the clean-ish one of the M&M combo? I'm more like Zacharias.. or whoever it was that was up a tree.
I wanted to post my wild hibiscus picture, finally, but can't figure out how to embed it.... Can some tech savvy person send me a PM? I could also use help making the format smaller. I know I did it once... but can't do it again! :?::?::?: DD called me this am and has horrible cold/allergies (in DC). Had 4 years of tartar removed at dentist this week, so it freaked me out that it might be some sort of blood infection. She's clear that if she gets worse she'll make an emergency call to the DDS or get to doc in the box. DS said he's in the middle of Harry Potter and still enjoying being a chef for the summer in MN.:chef: I wish that money DID grow on trees. When you don't have it you don't have it. And I've got enough good credit, that I have more debt than cash. yuck. sympathies to all of those socked by the economy, layoffs and Iraq war. :grouphug: |

2. 'Course they do, they just call them Johnny-on-the-Spot. Silly woman. She must be from somewhere uncivilized. All picnicked out. Did nothing today but snooze. May attempt to clean out the fridge tonight, but surfing the net looks like a lot more fun. |
Ausgezeichnit (SP?)
SugP-- please send me a PM with trenchent curse words in German. I had an inhibited German instructor back in my college days (ancient history) and I went to a women's college, so I missed the obligatory cursing lessons. I am hoping that if I had great cursing skills, I would never have to use them... (Just like I'm really good at tasting brownies, but no one ever asks.) Have had a terrific weekend. 10# goal is in site for July 4. |
Sugar, I just love the thought of you cursing the poor DH in german! Did you find anything interesting in the fridge?
I'm right there with Sugar P - I'm so boring I have nothing to post. Not that I thought Sugar was boring. I had an incredibly boring weekend too. No bbq's, no socializing, no fun. It was too hot to move. |
Sugar is at such a disadvantage if she has to fight in her second language. I am sure that someone here would be willing to tutor her.
I lost my credit card. I can't imagine what I did with it. I'm so tired from the weekend, not that I did anything. I barely left the house. I did exercise, though. I can't think of a thing to write. I have to go find or cancel my card...bye |
Found card.
I see that Bush is campaigning in Sissy's state. Why bother? They'll rig the election for him anyway. I blame Peaches. It is the real reason she changed her name. I'm on the computer to see if an bounced check is in my future. As you see, the details of my life are falling apart. I've been writing checks like mad with no deposits. Why? I think I'll make dinner. |
I am outraged. My keyboard broke causing me to stay off the computer for almost 24 hours and I come back to find this???!!!??? No one has taken seriously my suggestion to adopt a theme. Don't care for the religous tone? How about Disney characters? I will be Jumbo, the sweet and delightful mother of little Dumbo.
|
We're apparently not as bovine as we think we are... because we won't be herded into a theme... Sorry, Cowp. Please don't take it personally. My kids are so old I don't remember any Disney characters I'd want to name myself after. Do you think there'd be better response if we picked ancient Goddesses? Hestia? Brunhilde?
|
Hmm...how about Lazarus?
I don't mind Jonah, but I was thinking I could use a whole new life, so maybe I could be Lazarus, raised from the dead. I don't seem to know many goddesses. I actually know more biblical characters than goddesses. I must have had a wasted youth. I know lots of Disney characters, but I don't think I want to be any of them, except maybe Minnie (mini  )
How come when I go away for 5 minutes (or 3 days) dear Peaches always gets so creative? One time I came back and we had all done amazing fantastical things. Your cousin's son sounds abominable, Lush. Your son is merely a bit reckless, not vile like that one. I wish Lion King had been better, maybe you should have gone to Urinetown instead. Speaking of which. Never mind. We got back earlier this evening from taking DD to music camp. We had to come home and change our clothes and go out to the wake for DD's friend's brother. They had 2 2-hour open casket visiting times today at the funeral home, and they packed the place both times. The line of people coming in the door and waiting to speak to the parents and file by the casket continued without interruption for two hours, twice. I've never seen anything like it in this town. The funeral tomorrow will be in the largest church in town, even though they are not members of that one, because they are expecting hundreds. The state park authority closed part of the park (where the mountain is that he died on) to hikers last week for 2 days because they determined that the heat and air quality (ozone) was too dangerous. Too bad they didn't do that before it happened. DD's music camp is going to keep her hopping -- and hiking. Colgate is built on a hill and she has to go from top to bottom several times a day, probably carrying a guitar. Oy. She ought to have a great time, though. It sounds like a really good program. Well, I'm tired. Bye cowies Kiwi |
Wow, I found a slide show with actual pictures of my town, including
The church we were married in! Aren't you impressed? I came across this local web-paper while I was looking for an article about the boy that died. His obit is on there, but not the articles about what happened to him. But what I did find was a great article about a local film festival that warmed my heart, although I wasn't able to attend. Ta Kiwi |
Beautiful church, Kiwi. I guess in your town you don't have to deal with those annoying "Do Not Dig" signs indicating unground cable. Ha. Ha. Just a little joke, albeit a rude one.
I can't sleep. Why isn't anyone else up? Love that article. I may have driven through Maine with Bagzie once. Can I be on the committee? I'm famous in certain areas of Dogpatch. |
Yeah, I don't think we do underground cables much around here -- tough to dig through all that frozen tundra
Throw all that stuff out! :cp: |
You can be on the committee. We need more voices of reason. More than we need Barbra Streisand or something.
Funeral today went on for over 2 hours! They had live jazz playing before the service -- the band teacher who left his job at the end of the year came back and led a jazz ensemble and played in it. The boy who died was very active in the music program. They had a sizable (high school) chorus that sang at the closing of the service and in between, several pieces sung or played by friends of the boy. DD's friend (his sister) sang a duet and managed to get almost all the way through before she had to stop. The place, as predicted, was packed. Amazing tribute to a very accomplished kid. Tiring, though, I'll admit. Haven't heard word one, email or telephone, from my dotter. Not that she's ever very good about that. By the way, Suzanne 3fc explaned about the outage this morning. Under, um, I don't know, Announcements or Help or something? Well, maybe here, I didn't look here. :dizzy: Me tired. Kiwi |
:balloons: HAPPY CANADA DAY!! :balloons:
To all you lovely Canadicows!! We love Canada. Well, most of us. I do. I think of it as my second country. and :chockiss: :chockiss: :chockiss: , Kiwi |
I'm so ashamed. I didn't even realize it was Canada Day. I guess it's because, like the rest of the US, I'm so self centered I forget there are other countries in the world. Like Florida and Joisey.
What a sad day, Kiwi. No wonder you're exhausted. Quote:
It's quittin' time!!!! Who says it's quittin' time? I say it's quittin' time!!! See yas! |
Kiwi, why donchall want a park? Parks are good.
|
Oy. They want to seize all the forest land to make a playground for people from other states. Because, hey, those National Parks are soooooo well run, right? Meanwhile, everyone here makes their living from the forests that they want. And I'm not talking about quaint little wreath-weavers, which is what the Burt's Bees lady thinks. We're talking lumbering and paper making. We are simply unwilling to be turned into a town of ice cream scoopers and windshield washers.
The name of the Park Project is "Restore: The Maine Woods", which of course implies that Mainers have squandered their woodlands, which is ridiculous. My favorite bumper sticker is this one: "Restore: Boston -- Leave our Maine way of life alone" I think it's very appropriate -- let Mass. and NY and so on clean up their own backyard before they start looking greedily into ours. End Rant Thank you for your patience. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming. Kiwi |
Painty, you didn't stop the threads. They just became long enough to off and live on their own. No rules were broken. Give yourself a cookie. Some of us don't like long threads so we give 'em up.
T.S. Bill was here yesterday. We had tornado watches (or warnings?) water sitting on the ground, new improved potholes and in the worst of it, ds was off taking a driving lesson. Some brave teacher! In just four days, ds leaves again. I am tired of being alone!!!! GRRRRRR. I know that when he goes to these programs, they have one phone for a whole dorm, limited time to use it and unless he spends his whole free time waiting in line, he won't call. So he doesn't call and I'm glad he has found something better to do. He will call once or twice in three weeks. Kiwi, your park argument was very convincing. It sounded rather like me when I lived in Los Angeles and discussed with a friend in norther California why WE should have cheaper gas tax. (We HAD to drive. There was no choice.) Isn't there any movie star at all (say, Sean Connery?) who you would want on the committee? |
Further rant and cleaning list
Kiwi, here in the center strip of NJ the land has been environmentally protected by about six different agencies...national forests, wetlands, state reserves...what ever it takes to keep the Christy Whitman types from having to rub elbows with the less republican (and blonde) city types. What that means is that it has, in effect, been confiscated from the farmers who've owned it for generations and made worthless. We're in the "Pinelands National Reserve." There can be no building...right where I am it takes 10 acres for a local to build a new house and 40 acres for an outsider. The only legitimate use of the land is farming....which is a dead industry in NJ. What that means is that developers can buy this land for 10cents on the dollar and then with their political clout, change the environmental laws to allow development. In the end they make billions(literally) and the original owners are out of luck. Down the street from me they are building these monstrous houses....I'd say about 5000 square feet. They've changed the zoning to allow them on about two acres, so they loom out of the ground, one after another. Three+ stories high with only about 15 feet of grass surrounding the house... Hideous.
END RANT Paint, we usually do stop at 5 or six pages because it becomes unweildy. AND when someone comes up with a cow pun, like "aherd of our time"....would you really want them to keep that to themselves? We used to do a new page everyday, but we're too lazy for that. I don't want a lame disney name. I was just ripped off by "The Lion King" on Broadway..I have a resentment. I may go to making all of you call me by my full name, Luscious. I feel I deserve the respect. DS13 is having friends over all day. I should clean the house a little and catch up on the wash...I'm hear all day, I shoud make the best of it. I will have to do pool duty later, but if the house is in shape, I won't feel bored. Here's my list: 1. shift wash done 2. unload dwdone 3. Load dwdone 4. wipe bathok 5. clear dr table 6. call dumpster people...we're doing a roof 7. swiffer kitchen floorok 8. dust 1st floor 9. windex 1st floor 10 vac 1st floor Mail is here..report cards are due....ours are mailed...it is always such anticipation. I like the old way when they got to get them and study them on the bus before giving it to us. They are always so nervous, even though there is never anything to be nervous about. I'm off to get my jobs done. I'll be back. Miss Luscious( note title of respect. I' quit....I don't feel like it. I"m going outside |

I like Kevin Costner--and he's been to Maine. Although not this part of the state. But he'd probably side with the Park People. Lush, that is exactly what we're afraid of here. The place becomes this destination (rather than a place to live) and every other piece of land is sold to developers and only the wealthy can afford to build. I couldn't live here that way. I'm not good at conforming and being squeezed. A lot of places in Maine no longer have ordinary people living in them because they are squeezed out by money. It's a messed up economy, because the "poorer" towns are getting poorer by the minute. Something funny and sort of disturbing happened recently on Mt. Desert Island (where Bar Harbor is--very upscale summer place). Some rich guy decided he wanted a full grown apple tree planted in his yard and the only place he could get it was off the island. So he hired someone to deliver this big tree. Doesn't sound like that big a deal, but it turned out to be a nightmare. It was so big around -- somebody said 30' in diameter -- that they had to stop traffic in both directions. And it took them 10 hours to move the thing 10 or 15 miles or so. There is only one road to most places on the island (and only one road to the island), so people were stranded. There were people who couldn't get to their jobs the whole day!! Unbelievable. That's a lot of work, Luscious Dear. Should I be doing stuff like that? Here's my list: 1) Unpack my suitcase 2) Wipe down the bathroom 3) Sort the mail and take out the recycling 4) Clean out dead things from the refrigerator 5) Take the big garbage bag down from the ceiling in the kitchen, because DH has admitted that it isn't doing anything. Apparently he just likes living in a dump That oughta take me all day Kiwi |
Dear Miss Luscious and Kiwi of the Woods,
why has no one mentioned that adorable picture next to Cowpernia? She lets me post for her at times because my name is already set up on the puter at work. Bye, Princess Peaches |
people mentioned..... you were probably rude in reply. go get your packing done.
my dumpster is late |
I repeat that no one mentioned the adorable but old picture of the funny looking child. I am at work. I don't have to pack here. Do you want those tapes of the scary radio shows?
|
Can I put stuff in your dumpster? Does UPS deliver to your house?

I'm so hungry. I had to fast for 12 hours so I could go get some lab tests done this morning, and I haven't had anything but coffee since I got home. I'm warming up soup right now, but it's not ready yet.:cbg: How do I get DH to do something other than play guitar allllll freeeeking day? He washed the car yesterday, and he's going to take the car to get it fixed tomorrow, but that's not going to keep him out of my hair today. I'm going completely freaking nuts!! Oops I think he heard my key-pounding; he put it away! Ah. silence. Kiwi |
Hey did you notice the funny lookin' kid in the black and whites next to cow p's posts?
Kiwi, men do not notice where they live. If they have a fridge, a tv remote and a bed they are happy. My DH is trying to make me crazy. He told me last week that we would be closed thursday and friday for the 4th of July holiday. Then last night he asked me where I ever got the idea we were closed on Thursday? Everyone knows that the 4th of July is on friday!!! He has absolutely no recollection of our previous conversation. Which doesn't surprise me because he does not listen to me. Kiwi, I hope you get to keep your state. We always have celebrities trying to tell us how to run Oregon. |
Quote:
I know just what you mean, Wabbit. Men don't even listen to themselves when they talk, let alone anyone else. My sweet DD called her grandparents last night when she couldn't get hold of us. Give that girl a phone card and a list of phone numbers, and who knows what she'll do. :spin: Well, I've gotten through more than half my list and I'm tired. Can I have a nap? Kiwi |
One thing I object to at this site is that celebs can't post their opinions on the future of Kiwi's state. I'm certain that some of them would have insightful things to say like how they have indeed been to Maine and that's where they order their little hand woven wreath earrings from and how they treasure them because they were woven by local natives of the area. We might even get one of them to sponsor a school or open a stand near the new park to sell handstitched aprons and quilts.
Yes, you may have a nap. Then get out your needles. |
