Morning all,
Sorry I wasn't here yesterday, but I did a raft of housework and then went into the city with my friend Chris who had an interview with a recruitment agency and I went to see my friend the big T for whom I have been writing doco. It was late when we got back and she wanted to talk about my 'condition (the lichen etc.) I didn't but she just carried on until she got a phone call and the recruitment agency had lined up a job interview for her tomorrow. I've never been so pleased to hear a mobile phone. Anyway, today I have to face it and will be going to the Chemist to fill the RX and we will get started on that tonight. I guess I will do my shopping at the same time not that I want much. I haven't eaten much. Annie - so sad to hear that Dad is not doing too well and that you have to think about housing and rehab etc. I'm presuming that he can't always breathe properly on his own and that he will need nightly checking which is why you can't look after him. I'm wondering if you can get something similar to what S the granddaughter had when she wasn't into breathing properly. It's like a board which goes under the chest and is covered by something soft like a sheepskin and it is attached to a monitor which goes off when breathing is interrupted for a set period of time. Might be worth investigating with the meds or medical gadget people. That means you could keep him at home nights but he would need to go to day-care days. Happy - garden sounds like it will be so nice. I've never thought about growing carrots in pots. Last ones I bought were the 'roly poly' variety and they don't take up much space in the garden. I am going to have to find a place for a spare key, but hey I don't do it often so hopefully I will find where I left my brain sometime soon. I will be researching the net over the weekend to see what I can find. There may be a site for people with the condition. I remember my friend Chris found one when she was bad with the Churgs-Strauss and said that it helped here as much as the hospital did. I'm not going to rush it and will just absorb it first and try to get it into some sort of remission. Mel - Sorry to hear that you are not on top of your game. It happens from time to time. Hope that it clears up shortly and you are more with it. The same could probably be said to me - being more with it that is. Ceejay - here's hoping those horrible tornadoes stay away from your neck of the woods. Michelle - sounds like you are enjoying the weather and being close to the beach. Laura - Pity to lose those ticks on the punch cards. But it happens. Life is what happens when we start planning how to life it. But you will get back into it I know. You are the most exercise conscious person I know. Right, shower time, I didn't run today. Just walked but at least I did it. Tomorrow is another run day. I'll try to do some yoga, pilates, tai chi stuff today but for now I need to go fill this rx, do the shopping, clean the bath and make a start on cleaning and clearing out my bedroom. That's the list for today. |
Lil man did not wake up once last night and is still sleeping. It is going on 8 am. Yeah!! I am staying in my bedroom, quietly watching news until he wakes. Could use some coffee but hey got time for that later.
SHADDIE...you certainly had a very busy day yesterday. I will mention this to my brothers and check into the gadget type thingy for breathing. Dad already has to sleep with the CPAP machine at night, don't know if the two machines will "get along". GOOD MORNING ALL YA'LL... Have a fantabulous day/night. Loves |

Morning all. TGIF!! I neglected to mention that for some reason Wednesday really felt like a Friday to me! Glad I'm past that and that my real Friday is now here. :)
Mel - Hope you're feeling better physically. Sorry you've been getting a lot of bad news about people losing loved ones. I heard a blurb that somewhere in NY got bad flooding - not sure which part of the state or if it was NYC. Hope you don't get too much rain or other severe weather your way - but TV marathons sound like a great way to spend a bad weather weekend. :) :) Unfortunately neithier bf's mom or mine have taken the opportunity to get on the internet and enjoy what it has to offer. My mom frequently calls the reference desk of her local library and asks them questions - I can't think how convenient she'd find G00gle! But I suppose she likes to think she's also making the life of the ref librarian more interesting, LOL. Love the bike graphic today! And the bike itself. :D Thanks for posting it. :) Annie - Yay for li'l guy sleeping through the night!! ::spin: Hope you have a wonderful day with him today. Sorry to hear your dad won't be able to live with you/your brother. I suppose it's not a condition that can be resolved by having your dad simply go on oxygen (tank/mask type setup). After a lifetime of smoking, my dad had emphysema and he eventually did that. You're right - I need to give up the punch-card guilt!! (And same for the unread magazine subscription guilt, LOL.) Michelle - I was able to get to a class last night. But Annie's right - need to get over not being able to finish the punchcard - who needs more guilty feelings. How was your dinner last night?? And what movie did you end up seeing? Bf and his friend went to see Mud and they also enjoyed it. Shad - I'm sure you were glad the phone call ended the conversation about your condition! I can see just not wanting to talk about it and wanting to get it off your mind after having it weigh heavily since the time the doc ordered a biopsy. Took a quick look at the Mayo Clinic site - they make it sound like it's not cancer, but could increase the risk of it. The other complications don't sound pleasant AT ALL, so I'll be fervently hoping the rx puts the lichen in remission. Thanks for your comment about exercise, but I'd like to think an exercise-conscious person could manage to get in more than a couple sessions a week, lol! And not just when she's trying to get punches on a card, hahaha. Hellos to Ceejay and Happy! Hopefully I'll be back later to see what's up. === Bf and a friend went to an early showing of Mud yesterday so I came home, took doggy for a walk and got into my workout duds by the time bf got home with the car. I did a Tighter Assets class. As expected, zillions of squats and lunges. We also used some glide-y discs for some of the moves. Tough instructor, tough class. I was really feeling it in my legs while cycling to the train this morning (cue the Wizard of Oz mean lady on bicycle (aka wicked witch) music. Anyway, punchcard be damned, I'm glad I'm not going to any classes today or tomorrow. There's actually a single Friday night class I could make it to today, but a) I don't feel like doing a workout on Friday night and b) the class is Hip Hop Fitness and I'm just not sure it's me. (Even if I'm pretty sure I'd be making a fool of myself in front of the same old bunch of people who attend the other fitness classes and not a bunch of young adults.) Today the office closes at 3 pm. I'll probably leave a bit early so I can make the special 3:10 train. I'd like to get over to the garden center for my flowers and veggies after work - maybe beat the rush?? For dinner, bf will grill the chicken breasts he marinated. It's gonna be cool again tonight, so maybe it'll finally be a good time to kick back in chairs in front of the fire pit. We'd added a bunch of twigs to it eons ago but whenever I have a hankering to light them up, it seems like it's windy as heck. Tomorrow I'm having breakfast with a former co-worker, and then I have my eye exam appointment. Saturday night I'm meeting several of my hs friends for dinner in the city at a place we used to gather at occasionally during HS. Sunday I might do an exercise class in the morning, but nothing else is firmly planned except dog walks, of course! Okay, I keep getting interrupted, so I'll get this posted and see if anyone snuck in on me. Everyone have a great weekend! |
Morning girls,
My computer's been goofy lately and getting worse. I think the IE browser has finally died, Firefox is flashing at me and Chrome is hanging on by a thread. Perhaps it's time to just tear it up and rebuild but I'm afraid I'll lose something important. Yesterday DH and I went up to Duluth to see the cardiologist. He got a clean bill of health - everything is looking good after his procedure. He will stay on meds for light palpitations for another month (this is very common after this procedure) and they will give him a monitor in a month to see if things have settled down for good. I had to move all my plants into the man cave day before yesterday because we had another night of below freezing temps. Moved it all out in the yard for some sun yesterday, then back into the building at night. I'm so glad we have heat in there. I hope we are now done with the damaging cold weather - it looks like it from the long range forecast, I do need to get things planted once and for all. I think tomorrow will be the day for that. We did get the extra dirt and compost we needed so all ready to go with that. Some housecleaning and laundry today so I can spend the weekend outside. Also the door handle broke on our main door yesterday - hopefully DH can fix it because it's a hassle using the other doors for the interim. Laura - that's cute about your Mom callling the library when she has questions. My Mom feels like she is missing out not having a computer but we were able to dissuade her from wasting her money on buying one - with no one to show her what to do and her being nervous about breaking something, I just think it would not work out very well. I got a very good laugh about the Wizard of Oz music while you were cycling  Especially if you were running late and trying to make your train on time. A fire in the firepit sounds nice - I was looking at ours and all the extra firewood we have laying around but after that wildfire we had up here last week, no way  On the way back from Duluth we took a detour through the area that burned, always sad to see black trees and scorched earth but I also know that for some species of plants, fire renews growth. So enjoy a nice evening fire for both of us. How nice to get out of the office early - I wish they timed the special early trains such that you could get there on time - ie. how can you get across town to the train station in 10 minutes??? Anyway getting out early is a great feeling. I also laughed about the train seats with the stretched out butt indents. I can picture them exactly  Mel - it does seem to come in spurts with people passing. I always use it as a cue to remind myself that life passes quickly - don't waste it on frivolous stuff. Sorry you are having a gloomy weekend to the start of summer over your way. As you were talking about your volunteer jobs I had to laugh - was told alot that volunteer positions "often lead to other kinds of opportunities". I bite my tongue each time in that it's been my experience that the only "opportunities" these lead to is more unpaid volunteer work ;) ;) ;) Have a good quiet weekend with you and Jen. Shad - I meant to say a while back when you mentioned it that I got garlic chives (plant) for the first time this season. Have never seen them before and I thought they sounded interesting - what goes better with onion than garlic  If carrots like cold weather to be sweet, how did yours do in the warmer climate? Annie - glad you are having fun with Lil Man and sorry to hear about Dad. Are the breathing issues and his general weakness the reason why he will need someone around all the time? Hope you can come up with a workable solution that does not drain you dry of money. Hope you get to have a little bit of relaxing long weekend and don't spend it all doing things for others... Loved the conversation with Ainsley- thank goodness she's talking about space and not boys  Ceejay - did you get some flowers for your garden? If you go with orchids you at least have an expert gardener in Shad to help you along. Michelle - hope you enjoyed your night out with friends, finally a long weekend to kick back and relax. Have fun on the beach for all of us! Just got a phone call from the doctor's office    I renewed my blood sugar meds because my A1C is just slightly higher than I want it to be. I can't take straight Metformin because it upsets my stomach really badly. The stuff I am taking has an enteric coating on the capsule to help ease tummy upset. The insurance company WILL NOT PAY for this. I would have to pay out of pocket which would be over $400 a month for this. I already pay out of pocket to keep my brand name thyroid medicine. Just what am I paying a king's ransom in insurance premiums for?????? We got Caremark last year and both of us have had very unhappy experiences with them. Caremark blames the policy holder and neither one of them give a rats butt about the humans who are affected. I swear they will take our money, bleed us dry and leave us to die. Yes, I can take this as incentive to work harder to lose weight so that I don't need the Metformin at all but it still doesn't change the fact that I pay more than alot of people's mortgage payment (with taxes) in monthly premiums and get almost nothing for it. Makes me so MAD  :tantrum: Anyway, the morning is ticking away - I need to get my plants out of the man cave and into the sun and get started on my work around the house here. And go figure out some way to enjoy those beautiful berries I bought the other day before they start to fuzz up on me. Have a good weekend everyone - happy kick off to summer holiday for those of us in Northern Hemisphere even if it doesn't exactly feel quite like summer yet. |
Happy Friday ladies -
Had a nice time last night with my friend. This is the guy I dated before I met my ex. Then we reconnected after my ex and I separated. I saw him when I came to CA at Christmas, and he came to WI for a visit in Feb. I've only seen him a couple times since I've been back. Not sure if this is going to go anywhere. Since we've both been hurt before we're taking things slowly with no expectations or pressure. Anyway, we saw the new Star Trek movie, and if you're a fan of the Star Trek series or movies, I highly recommend it. I really enjoyed it. All the actors did a great job, and I thought the plot was good. After the movie, we had a yummy dinner. Today, I'm working from home, with Santa by my side. :) Santa and I may go to a doggie walk on the beach tomorrow. If we do, I contacted a friend of mine who lives about 40 min. down the coast from where the dog walk is to see if it would be convenient for me to drop by and say hi to him and his wife. I realized yesterday that I'm happier than I've been in a long time. My job is going good. I have a really nice team of people that I work with. And I'm able to stay with my step-mom, which is going well, and save a bit on rent. BTW, my landlord in WI was able to get a renter starting June 1st, so I don't have to pay rent there any more. :) ==================== Annie - I'm so sorry that your dad isn't able to rehab. Sending you many hugs and prayers. Shad - I hope the meds are able to clear up the issue and keep it in remission/at bay. Good for you with all the exercise you're doing! I'm not that close to the beach. I'm about 45-60 minutes away. I wish I was closer...but that will come in time. For right now, Santa and I are enjoying staying with my step-mom. Laura - How nice you get to leave early and get a headstart on the long weekend. I'm doing a bit of that today by getting my laundry done while I work from home. Those lunges in the Tighter Assets class sound brutal. Well done! No wonder you're doing so well with the weight loss. Have a wonderful breakfast tomorrow, and a fun evening with your hs friends! Mel - a TV marathon sounds like a great way to spend a cool, rainy weekend. I hope you get to relax. Happy - Can you back up your files before you rebuild? I use a service called Carbonite. It's about $60 a year, and it automatically backs up your files every week. So glad to hear your DH got a clean bill of health! :woohoo: Bummer about the blood sugar meds. I totally understand about Metformin upsetting your stomach. My doc in Wisconsin had to increase my dosage VERY gradually because when she upped it quickly it led to a HORRIBLE weekend of stomach issues. Do you have Walgreens up there? Reason I'm asking is that for the month of May I don't have insurance. Starting in June, I'm paying for insurance with my contract agency. Anyway, I needed to renew my diabetes med and cholesterol med this week, and they were going to run me over $300. So the Walgreens pharmacy tech suggested I sign up for Walgreens Prescription Savings Plan which costs $25/year. Turns out, with the savings plan, my prescriptions came to $75. And before I signed up for the Walgreens plan, the pharmacy tech checked to make sure it would, in fact, give me enough of a savings to be worth it. In my case it's $25/year to save $225 per month. I understand your frustration about medical expenses. It sucks when premiums are high and you don't get much for it. I hope the insurance coverage was good when your DH was in the hospital and for his follow-up visits. Gotta get back to it. Sending you all much love, and many hugs and warm wishes for a fun and relaxing weekend! |
Went to Blytheville yesterday and bought some plants. One planter was already planted but I need to work on the others to get them in a pot. Need to get some dirt. How could I forget that!!!!!!
Still working on the office area. Why is it when you rearrange things you end up with a mess! Annie Glad to hear that lil man had a good night. Laura Don't blame you for taking a day off from exercise. Mine was yesterday, mainly because I forgot about it. Happy Glad to hear that dh had a good report yesterday at the doctor's office. And I agree about the insurance companies. Your doomed if you have it and more doomed if you don't. Mel Sorry that you have had a lot of bad news this week. It's hard and crying is good therapy. Shad As they used to say the bell saved the day. -------------- Need to go to Walmart sometime this afternoon to get a few things for the office. Would like to get a filing cabinet but not sure if this is feasible with my moving in a couple of years. But first I'm fixing my lunch. I'm hungry. |
Ceejay - Instead of a filing cabinet, you might want to get a portable file holder like this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/15170108?w...l5=pla&veh=sem
I've got a couple and they really were a lot easier to deal with when I moved. In fact, my ex offered me one or two of our large file cabinets, and I turned him down because I didn't want to move them. Have fun at WalMart and planting. |
Michelle
Didn't realize that their was a new Star Trek movie. I'll have to make sure I see that one or wait for the DVD. How nice to get to walk by the beach! Thanks I'll look into that storage box. |

Good morning ladies,
I imagine it will be quiet around here as most of you are out enjoying the first holiday of the summer's weekend. Happy Memorial Day and thank you to all the service men and women near and far who have served our country and protected our freedoms. http://www.millan.net/minimations/smileys/military.gif (thank you Mel for an appropriate smiley!) Yesterday I brought my plants out into the sunshine, watered them, trimmed them and put the sugar snap peas into the garden. One more night for the rest of them in the mancave and then it's a planting marathon tomorrow. I was sitting very close to the bird feeders and enjoyed a rather colorful show as I was working. One could easily sit nearby and take some great photos. The hummingbird boys - I think there are 3 now if not 4 - are VERY aggressive this year. Chasing each other clear across the yard, almost to the next town. Mel - poor thing, burning roasts and kids with an attitude. :( And no beach / shore for them to take off to - or have they pretty much cleaned up the area by now after Sandy's wrath? I suppose it's good that you don't have balconies in your building - if the seniors can't mind the roast, imagine what they'd do with BBQ grills. Perhaps you can start a business - drop your roast off by 9am, Mel will cook it up and have it ready for you by dinner  Jen can help and if it comes out especially good, take a "cut" for yourselves  Oh well, they'd probably complain about the seasonings or something... Ceejay - did you go back and get your planting soil? So easy to forget that when you're focused on the plants - or as is the case with us, not enough room for both dirt and plants - even with the 4Runner. And you could always get a half height filing cabinet - there will ALWAYS be papers to file - especially as we get older it seems. Michelle - thank you for the Walgreens prescription program suggestion. I looked into it and now I at least see that I am getting some value for my premium money although the Caremark website is sometimes hard to negotiate. What I paid $70 for, Walgreens would charge me over $900 for a 90 day supply. :faint: I told my doctor's office that I needed a specific med for the blood sugar as the metformin was too harsh for me and they pursued it and were able to get it approved. And thusfar it looks like it will only cost a forearm which is better than an arm and a leg  I guess you must be getting generic meds - hence your cost savings. For me one does not come in a generic form, and for my thyroid I insist on name brand as I have had issues with the generic version in the past. But it was worth looking at so thanks for the suggestion! Glad you are happy and settling into things now, especially at work. That's great that they found another renter and you are off the hook for the rent. Did your roommate find someone else to stay with? Annie - sounds like you are having a good time watching Lil Man. Have a good weekend and don't work too hard unless it's garden stuff that you enjoy. Laura - hope you got your flowers and veggie plants. Have fun with your friends tonight and join us tomorrow in a garden planting marathon  Shad - between the yoga, pilates and run/walking - sounds like you are getting a good workout. Before you know it your Assets will be tightening too ;) Ok, almost time for lunch here. Not sure if I should do the light housework first and then head to the garden or reverse them. Usually when I come in from outside I'm done for the day. But if I wait too long then I don't want to water things before the cool sets in. Oh such problems, eh? Enjoy your weekend chicks. |
Morning all,
Get this done while the coffee is hot and tasty then I need to get moving again. Got lots to do today. I'm finishing off in the bedrooms. Then it is outside and in the garden. Gotta prune the tomatoes. They are just about finished, but not quite. I've still got a lot of eating to do. Winter is upon us and unless it clears up a bit, there won't be much in the way of ripening. Annie - so great that you have had a wonderful time with the little one. They are precious. I'm looking forward to having S come to us for her birthday. The gadget thingy may not be available for adults, it probably works on the same principle of the CPAP that your dad already has. Seems that he is going to need constant supervision and you can't provide that while you work. Mel - what is this? Sending the oldies to me to train on getting books from the library? I can hardly find the library these days much less train them on how to use it. So the kids are arriving shortly. Surprises me that they still want to come and spend time in the woods with Richie. I would have thought that they were too old now. on the burnt roast. Maybe we should send them all out to the commune - oh maybe not, Happy's place is in drought. Much more sobering is the fact that the alarms did not go off. That is unforgiveable. Laura - I echo the pleasure I get in saying that I am not exercising this morning. In fact I managed to sleep in. Miss Puss was not impressed. I haven't been to the gym in an age - not since I left Darwin. I hear you about making a fool of yourself in classes. I always seemed to be one step behind everyone else and can't catch up. Happy - back up that computer and rebuild it. You may lose everything anyway if the thing decides to bust the phoo phoo valve. Happy planting today and tomorrow. Next week is my time for the garden. That is after I go for another eye test to have my glasses replaced and also gotten the stitches in my mouth out. Then I am done with the medical stuff until the new tooth goes in. My assets are tightening up thank you very much. Especially my wallet assets! Time for budget constraint especially as I want to get a new car next month. An hour in the garden and an hour in the house, repeat as required. That way you get a lot of everything done during the day. Michelle - good to hear that you are feeling happy again. Sometimes it takes a huge leap of faith to get back to where you want to be. Good on you for that. Hope the friendship thing works for you. It is so nice to have someone who you can just call up and go somewhere with not too many expectations - just good friendship. Ceejay - I bought a filing cabinet a while back which looks somewhat like a piece of furniture. I should have gotten something smaller as I just use it to store a lot of stuff I really don't need anymore. Go for the mobile things on wheels or the concertina file. I got the medication on Friday. You only use a very small amount which is probably good since the stuff is not available on PBS and costs around $33 for this small tube. It is used at night time. Thin smear over the infected area and seems to work quite well. I no longer wake myself up scratching. Well I haven't over the past two nights anyway. So hopefully it will stop the itch during the daytime sometime soon. The daytime is much more embarrassing that night time. Anyway....... Laura was right, there is an increased risk in cancer in the area but it is rare. My doc said that only one or two people in a hundred get Lichen and of those one or two about 1 to 5% of them get cancer. My chances are good. Okay time to get off here. Change the bed linen, sweep the floors and clean out the wardrobe. Time to change over from summer to winter (moves 3 jackets and 2 pairs of pants from one place to another). Then some laundry, dusting and sorting in the spare room. I might even get to clear out some of that goddam big filing cabinet. |
Whew, I got a lot done today outside. I thoroughly enjoyed being outside. Trimmed the bushes, planted the flowers in pots, and washed my dirty vehicle. I'm tired but a good tired. When I was putting things back into the shed there was a snake's skin about 2 foot long. Didn't remember seeing it before. Gives me the creeps to think that a snake may be in the shed.
-------------- Happy Yes, had to go back to Walmart to get another rx this morning. It was in my purse yesterday but it was over looked and while there I asked some one in the lawn and garden department if they had potting soil. And they did. Got more than enough. My flowers are now planted. Shad It's almost winter there!!!!!! We may be begging for some of your cooler air. I'm going to have to look up lichen. I've seen those filing cabinets that look like a piece of furniture. Mel Did you burn the roast or did one of the tenants. I haven't gone back to read.. I can say one thing your job is never a dull one. Laura and Annie  |

I should have know it wasn't you that burned the roast. ------------ Back to work for me. and yes I have to work tomorrow as well. Didn't want to be here at all. But I only have 2.5 years left till retirement and I'm so ready for that. |
Good morning chickies,
Had a productive day yesterday. It was on the cool side and overcast - I didn't even pull my plants out of the man cave. But it was perfect weather for DH who is busy building a pine needle path out in the back of the property. We have lots and lots of pine needles he is raking up and they have to be put somewhere so they can be nicely recycled by laying a path in the woods. It also is good for avoiding the ticks as they don't like pine needles and there's nothing for them to sit on and wait for a passing victim. He is pleased with his progress. We have our share of bugs here too - ant mounds all over the place outside making DH crazy. Ticks are our biggest problem - they are already warning of lyme disease and to be careful and do a tick check. DH better get that lawn mower working pronto as the grass is getting pretty high and I have to make several trips across it to get to the garden. :s: I had a good day myself. Tidied up indoors and got the laundry taken care of. Started a box of donations to the thrift shop. Now if DH would only pick up after himself and keep things tidy. He has a tendency to drop stuff where ever it lands and it makes me nuts. Today I will spend most of my day outdoors. The time for planting has come. Last night it got down to 36 degrees but that's as close as it looks to freezing for now. Long range forecast - which if you can't get the next day or two right, how can you trust 30 days out??? - indicates pleasant days in the 70's and nights in the 40 - 50 temps. Good daytime weather, good sleeping weather. Also looks like tomorrow and for the next 5 days or so, the rain all you are getting now will be cropping over to us which will be good for the plants. More incentive to get the garden set today. Yesterday we decided to go out for pizza. As we pulled up in the parking lot DH thought that we might be next to my cousin's car. Walked in and sure enough, there were both sets of my cousins. Actually 3 sets since one of them had gone into the city to go pick up her sister and bro in law. Hey - thanks for asking us to join in  There was some awkwardness and a few very transparent excuses made and of course we all pretended to ignore the big white elephant in the room. I did have a nice time talking with my older cousin from the city - we have not seen her in a good many years. All in all we did have a nice evening out and then had to rush back home at last light (which is close to 10pm up here) to get the feeders in for the night. Have not seen Mr. Bear in over a week but by now we know he travels a circuit and you never know when he'll be back in town again. So we stopped ground feeding and take the bird stuff in overnight. Ceejay - 2 and a half years is not a long time - it will fly by quickly - not exactly zoom by but you are definitely rounding the bend and time to start doing some planning for when the time comes. 5 months of this year have already zipped past. We had a garden snake in our boat shed last year - he kept peeking around a garden pot. We named him Snake Plisken from Kurt Russell's character in the movie Escape from New York. Not sure he stayed too long - DH was not fond of a snake popping up unexpectedly - you do have to be mindful of things out this way. Glad you got all your planting done. Mel - loved the hummingbird graphic. We have a bunch of super aggressive males this year. DH said he was watching one boy who flew in and just whacked a girl right off the feeder. Maybe I have to put some plant estrogen in the water to calm them down - too much macho testosterone  I know what you mean about waiting for the heat to get here and then complaining about it being too warm  I imagine it gets pretty steamy with the concrete but at least you have the river to provide some humidity and a bit of coolness at times. Yum on the popcorn and NCIS marathon - if you can't solve life's problems, then perhaps you can take on life's mysteries  Shad don't you DARE think you're sending Mel's blue hairs over to the commune. :nono: I will build an iron gate at the end of the street faster than lickety split and that's pretty fast ;) I have enough with my Mom thank you very much. The commune would quickly become a very loud place with all the frustrated yelling that would be going on. Funny how we wait so long for the tomatoes to come in and then the end of the season / change of weather comes up quickly and we have all this leftover bumper crop to deal with. I am excited that I may have found a yellow cherry tomato plant like my sister planted last year. It gave the best tomatoes I have ever tasted. And the arugula is particularly tasty this year - even I'm getting used to that peppery bite. Do you have enough of a garden plot to do corn? They had some nice sized plants at the garden center but I didn't want to devote 1/3 of a precious garden bed to them, particularly when so far the corn in the stores has been delicious and will be priced at about 25 cents an ear or less when on sale. That has become a growing criteria for me - if I can grow it better at home, it goes in. If it tastes the same as in the store and is relatively inexpensive - I'll buy it. And if it's a pain in the neck to grow and needs alot of TLC like celery - for sure it doesn't merit a spot in the garden. Well I should get some food in me and get outside before it gets too late to get the garden in and watered for the night. Have a good day everyone and hello to the rest of the chicks. |
Happy Sunday/Monday all. Short and sweet hello. Hope you're all having a good weekend. Just been invited to a cookout at a friend's. Last minute invite, not thrilled, but we have to eat anyway, lol, so we'll probably go.
I'll be back tonight or tomorrow to catch up on your posts. TTFN! |
happy Sunday/Monday ladies!
Santa and I have had a fantastic weekend so far. Yesterday, we went for a dog walk on the beach with another woman and her dog. After that, I drove a bit further south and visited two friends that I haven't seen since I was here at Christmas. Despite having 3 cats, they were very kind about inviting Santa (who was on leash) into their home. Santa was very well behaved and only tried to chase the kitties a couple times. Today, Santa and I met up with a group of women who have Westies (West Highland White Terriers). It's a group organized on Meetup.com, and I asked them if they'd mind having a Schnauzer tag along. They were very welcoming. We walked around the gorgeous Stanford University campus. 4 women and 7 dogs. It was quite a sight and many people stopped to take photos of the adorable dogs. Now we're relaxing in my step-mom's beautiful backyard, and later we're going to BBQ burgers on the grill. I'm sorry I don't have time for personals right now. I hope you all are doing well and enjoying the day/weekend. Much love, |
Morning all,
Not a lot happening here. I was supposed to go for an eye appointment to check out my glasses, however when I got there I was half an hour late. I swear it was a 9.30 appointment, but............... guess it wasn't. So that is put back to next week now. I went around to help the DS2 and G/F with his latest project yesterday and managed to get a blister on my heel. So no running today. Hurts to put shoes on. I did a 40 min Tai Chi and pilates and yoga routine instead. Shortly I will need a coffee so a break will be in order. Might make some scones for DS2 for his afternoon tea since he is busy plumbing and putting beds together and cleaning up etc. It's his rostered day off from his job. Ceejay - nothing like working outside on a good fine day. Makes one tired and ready for bed in the evening. All that fresh air I guess. Mel - that is a pretty frenetic hummingbird you have there this morning. Wears me out just watching it. Glad to hear that you have had a quiet day in the building. Although you might have been warmer if you had been busy running the corridors. Tell the blue hair brigade that I'm available. $60per hour, and they will be running the country by the time I am finished. Let's face it, can't be that much worse can it - of course it can, the GenY could be running the country. Then it would be a case of what's in it for me. Happy - Ant hills everywhere? Put petrol over the mound, let it sink in a bit and set fire to it. Might burn for a short while, but the ants will be gone. Alternatively, boiling water does the trick as well. Just ensure you start on the ones nearest the house otherwise you might be housing a few million more guests. Can you spray for ticks? Yeah there is corn in the garden. I had a good crop last year. So tasty and sweet. Mind you the neighbours and friends got most of them although I did snaffle a few and smuggle them into NT when I went back and forth. Hiya Laura - hope you enjoyed the cook out. Michelle - Sounds like you are having a great time with the dog, doing the walking and joining in with things. You'll be all settled in no time. So I am about to take my coffee and wander out into the sunshine for half an hour or so. It looks so nice out there today. Then I will finish the bedrooms and get stuck into the garden. House is clean - apart from the windows and plans have been sorted for some redecoration in a couple of rooms. Time to get on with it. |
Well the vegetable garden is in for the season :faint: :faint: :faint: I do have a couple of vegetables going into pots - the yellow summer squash and the baby carrots and I just ran out of time for that so it will be done later today. I also have the herbs and flowers to be planted in pots. Even if it rains today, I can work in the greenhouse on those.
It was a very tiring day. DH had to get the lawnmower blades sharpened and the mower ready for the season. He got about half the lawn done today. The grass in the garden as well as the whole lawn is quite high. One deer tick was trying to make a beeline for me but I squashed him before he could make contact. That set me to having the skeeves about ticks so later on when I went to the loo as I took my jeans down one was on my upper thigh but had not attached itself yet. I whisked it off so fast it landed in my pants. I'm surprised the britches didn't start on fire considering the speed with which I ripped them off. Shook them all over and could not find that darned tick. Refused to put those pants back on and got another pair. I HATE TICKS. They left me alone after that but I was pestered by biting flies and a few mossies that left a good welt or two. And I just bought a can of bug spray - doesn't work sitting on the shelf inside missy. It should be a nice garden - I'm hoping everything takes well and the weather cooperates. You have me interesting in sweet corn Shad - not this year, perhaps next. Do they need deep roots as my beds are not that deep. Thanks for the advise on the ants - I do know boiling water works - that's what we will have to do that is IF I can get in front of DH with his scary toxic sprayer junk. He is just a fanatic when it comes to dandelions (coming into bloom now) and ant hills. On another note, with the dryness out here and the wildfire last week that burned over 8,000 acres - you can bet there will be no lighting petrol on the property - even if most of the ant hills are in sandy soil. Several of our beautiful pine trees have suffered damage from the late heavy wet snow we had the beginning of the month. We lost 1/2 of a twinset tree - hoping the remaining half will survive. Today DH showed me a tree in the front that the darned bear "marked" by ripping the bark clear off the tree in several places. Blasted bear. Happy is not fond of bears either. Ok, I just wanted to do a quick check in. It's off to bed for me. 'night all. Sweet dreams and a good afternoon's nap to you Shad. Nurse that sore foot. |

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY Good morning everyone. A cold Memorial Day so far on the East coast. This nip in the air gets to you after awhile. I woke up on my own at 5AM...when I can sleep in, I can't?? WTF It must be because I don't get used to a solid night's sleep. Who knows. Any way I got tired of tossing and turning, My refrigerator is making a sound like a diesel engine. Guess it must be getting ready to break down. Sounds like the fan cause the rest of it is working fine. I'll leave a repair note for myself tonite along with other tenants. I watched NCIS all day and did little jobs around the house. Finally got out the sewing box and put buttons back on blouses. God I hate that job. I would l.ike disposable clothes:rofl:  I am off to find something to eat. Richie bought me a guava bun. Jen bought me a coffee. Breakfast is a treat today:love: Ceejay....Sorry you have to work the holiday. Maybe the phones will be quiet with everyone doing the BBQ thing. My friend can retire about the same time as you. We can celebrate together:gift: Happy....I had some laughs at your post. Felt good to giggle so early in the morning. The humming birds are too funny. Guess they won't be needing an Viagra this year. What irony to go out for pizza and find the cousins!! ROFLMAO They got snagged for sure. Too funny but not funny. White elephant for sure. Cracked up about the blue hairs being vetoed from the commune!!! I don't even want to meet up with any of them in Heaven. Going to ask God for a favor to give me a cloud of my own!!! Hope your plants make it and it stays warmer. :crossed: We still have heat on low. 47 this morning. I can just see you whisking the pants off!! OMG!!! I hate any kind of bug let alone ticks!! Forget what I said about moving out there.  Laura....hope the food was better than the invite!! Haaaaaa! :D Michelle...glad you are enjoying old & new friends. Have a good time with the BBQ!! Shad.....Scones??? YUM!!! I'll bring the cream, jams and butter!! Put the pot on and we'll all have a cuppa! Hope the blister heals fast. Great exercising. I took the weekend off from pedaling but did it last night anyway. You only have 29 kg to go!!! I only have 50 lbs!! :faint: How are the meds working??? Sending love your way:hug: |
Mel
Love your graphic this morning. And your post in red and blue. I'm praying for a quiet day as well. Happy I saw the pictures you posted of the garden on FB. Looks healthy so far. Yikes on the bear marking his spot in the woods. Don't you love being outside. Tick's. ugh can't stand them. Deer ticks can cause lyme's disease. Michelle So glad you are finding things to do with Santa. And what a great way to meet new friends. Laura How was the bbq? Shad I'm with Mel -hope you bought enough scones for everyone. I hadn't thought of burning out ants. I have poured bleach down their den though and boy did they scramble. Even the queen emerged. -------------------------- Yesterday was almost to quiet and praying that today will be quiet as well. I'm wanting to take up Yoga. Found one DVD on line that had stretching which did my body good. I was sore from being outside on Saturday. Guess I need to get to work. My computer is acting funny, like it's going to crash. I've told the boss. |
Good morning all,
Quick post for me as I should get outside and get busy before the afternoon rains come in. It's cloudy, it's sunny, it's cool, it's breezy, it gets dark. So hard to figure out what it's going to do. Ceejay - you can't beat yoga for exercise. There are different styles and different instructors, see if you can find a person you like by looking online and get one of their videos. Bummer that you have to work today. Hope it's a quiet one. Michelle - you sound like you are in touch with lots more people than you were in WI. That's a good thing. Mel - know what you mean about the mending thing. I just fixed a bunch of stuff the other day. Still having found my sewing box from the move, thank goodness I don't need any weird thread colors. Love the idea of having your own cloud in heaven  I wonder if everything just gets along because it's heaven but I doubt it - that's probably why sometimes you see little bits of clouds all over the sky  Sounds like a yummy breakfast fit for a holiday. Enjoy. Shad - 60 dollars an hour for tutoring is quite the bargain but I'm thinking the blue hairs would think it highway robbery. How do you feel about $2.50 an hour? Hope the rest of the chicks are enjoying themselves. Make sure you work in a picnic or at least go outside and eat sitting in a lawn chair. After all, this is the All American BBQ holiday  See yah later chicks... |
Morning all. Barely. I'll probably have to change this before I post because it will soon be past noon. Anyway...Happy Memorial Day.
Happy - Glad to hear dh's cardio appointment went well. Good thing you got approval for your medication - that out of pocket cost was insane! You sounded very busy with your veg garden planting, and the photos on fb prove it. Makes my grand total of 4 veg plants seem very humble, LOL. What a tomato variety - weather (and garden gods) permitting, you should have a great harvest! Scary what the bear did to the tree, and eek re the ticks!!! Just can't stand insects at all, and you can get really sick from ticks in particular. Be careful out there! Michelle - Your dinner and Star Trek movie sounded like a nice evening, though I'll leave that movie for the Trekkies. Not my thing. Your dog walk meet-ups sound wonderful - what a great way to get out and for you and Santa to enjoy being outdoors and to meet people/dogs and make new friends. So glad it worked out for you. Ceejay - Glad all has been quiet yesterday and today at work. Did you get your filing cabinet figured out? Eek, snake - even just the signs one was nearby!!! Hope it's long gone and isn't around to scare the bejeebers out of you on a future visit to the shed!! I'd like to have time to do yoga - have to figure out how to fit it in because it's excellent for developing flexibility and balance. I'd like to find a video with an instructor that I like, but no luck so far. Let me know if you find one you like!! Mel - LOL re the burnt roast, but scary that the alarms didn't go off!!! Boo on the chilly weather, but if it keeps things quiet, good enough. You've got that NCIS marathon to keep you entertained. :D I had the same thought as Shad - that Richie's kids would be at that age where they wouldn't want to spend the summer away from their friends at home in FL. Do they have friends up at the trailer?? Love your red white & blue post today. :) Fingers :crossed: your fridge hangs on until someone figures out the problem. Shad - I slept in on Saturday too, almost to the point of oversleeping for my breakfast with my former co-worker. You sound your usual go-go-go busy. I like to think people like me balance out the world of people like you and Annie, LOL. Glad the cream is working. As for not keeping up in these classes I take...I'm getting better at doing what's best for me, especially if it means I don't end up too sore or tired to function the rest of the day or the following day! Hi Annie - you must be busy having fun or just plain busy! === Nice weekend so far. It was nice to get a headstart on my long weekend on Friday. Bf and I walked doggy and then went out for an early dinner. Then it was off to the garden center for the flowers and veggie plants. Saturday I had a nice breakfast with my former co-worker. Woulda been healthier if I'd gotten the side of toast instead of the side of pancakes - I ate one of the pancakes with butter and syrup of course. The turkey sausage was tasty - had me wondering if it was really the turkey sausage or just the full-fat pork variety...Always interesting talking with my former co-worker B. On home maintenance matters, the topic of getting a proper exhaust fan vent installed in our roof for the full bathroom came up. When I mentioned that what I thought was the vent turned out to be the vent for the plumbing stack, he was clueless - plumbing stack, sewer gas??!! He's the squirrely confirmed bachelor type with too much time on his hands, so I imagine he went home and got on the internet to research it. Back home for r&r before I left again for my eye doc appointment. That went alright. Going back to get a trial of a different brand contact lens, and some sort of scan for the eyes that the doc likened to an MRI for the eye. I have some thinning of the something or other and he just likes to make use of his fancy equipment I think. No, seriously, I feel better with this new doc, he looks at things the old doc either didn't consider at all or just didn't want to invest in the equipment to allow the tests to be done. Dinner with my 3 HS friends was nice, and later, I went with one of them to a bar closer to her house to watch the end of the hockey game and wait for bf and his friend to meet us. BF and I drove into the city together and he met his friend to go to an outdoor neighborhood music fest not too far away, while I dined w/ my pals. He enjoyed the two bands, but it was too chilly for his taste to be standing outdoors for extended time periods. Glad I was indoors! :D Yesterday I went to the Beach Ready Body class. With the kettlebell instructor - very challenging. The guy's obsessed with those plank moves! Next Sunday is the last day of this punchcard session but I might do the Zumba class instead of this one just to give myself a break and enjoy the Latin rhythms. After my shower I was ready to spend the day slothfully, but instead I got my 4 veggie plants planted. One regular size tomato, one Sweet 100 cherry tomato, one Blue Lake green bean plant and one Fresno Chili pepper plant. I might plant some cilantro again too. I put tomato cages around all four plants and skipped putting up the fence around the plot. Right next to the veggie plot is a hodge-podge garden bed with a bit of everything and always something new popping up. This year, there are iris blooming in there! Pretty! Otherwise, there's always peonies, daylilies, milkweed, phlox, columbine and some poor sedum. The sedum are shorter than everything else in there and get buried in the tall foliage. Taking pity on them, I decided to dig up the two good-sized clumps of them and move them to the other garden bed. I think they'll do better there, it's shadier too. Too funny, I was showing bf where I planted the sedum I'd moved and said I could have sworn we already had some more in this other spot, but I only saw one existing clump. We looked more closely and found the other clump had been overtaken by more daylilies! And that's our garden in a nutshell - always in the midst of being overtaken by weeds or out-of-control perennials! I stopped after that, so I still have my window boxes to plant w/ impatiens and other planters/beds to plant w/ geraniums. I wasn't up for doing it this morning and still not in the mood, so they can wait! The cookout yesterday was nice - very low key. Company was nice - hadn't seen some of those friends in a while. Food was fine. I did okay on all my portions except for the potato chips - which is why I don't keep them in the house!!! Very ho-hum day today so far. I put in a load of laundry and it sounds like the cycle has ended. Fingers crossed - I bought a nice cotton casual jacket at the thrift store last weekend and belatedly noticed it had what looked like old grease stains on it. Boo. I laundered it after putting some Oxy Clean on it, but nope, spots remained. Saturday I treated the spots with some Dawn dishwashing liquid and today laundered the jacket again. Fingers :crossed: it budged the spots. It's not the measly $4 I paid for it, it's that I really liked the jacket... Wish me luck! Everyone have a great rest of the weekend! |
HAPPY Memorial Day!!!!
Just busier than a one armed paper hanger. Wasn't so bad with bro and SIL....they were busy, didn't get home each evening till 9 pm, I went to bed shortly after. They left each day by 9am. BYE!!! She was actually friendly to me, but I am still leary of her. Weird feeling. Fish fry at bros was great. Took all the fish we caught in FLa. I also took marinated chicken for those that did not like fish. Then made the following homemade...potato salad, deviled eggs, baked beans, macncheese, cole slaw, banana cream stuff I made up, pumpkin mousse pie, and then had lil man and took sass roo with also. Played cornhole and ate....Got home at 5:30 Sis and Chris got her at 6 pm after the race and picked the babe up...which he was absolutely perfect all 3 days for me. Such a treat. I then died on the couch till bro and SIL got her. Sass is now resting her head on my hand while I type. All and all it was a fantastic great 3 days...happy all went well. Now going to put fencing around gardens as Ms Sass has destroyed 2 pepper plants and my cucumber mounds. As soon as C gets home we are going to work in the yard and get everything under control from this little mightly mini daschund! hahaha Hello to all...no time for personals....maybe tomorrow from work. loves and hugs |
Morning,
Taking a quick time out to post 'cause there is so much to be done today. And it has decided to rain on my parade so a change of plan means I will be doing most of my inside stuff today and hope for another day tomorrow where I can garden. Bloody weather Not much else happening here. I am due to finish the doco for the bigT this week. And he didn't get to send me the information I required yet, but I can at least format what I have and insert a couple of bits of information from other documents. Meantime I am into cleaning and clearing out the 2nd bedroom. Time to get rid of a few more bits and pieces and package up some others for life in the loft. Some things you just can't get rid of. Time also to clear out the filing cabinet. Decisions, decisions, decision. And of course the bills keep coming and we are threatened with higher taxes and utility bills. Pretty soon I will be generating power from a bicycle and it is time to revisit solar power. I have solar hot water but not power. Mel - don't you know that appliances are programmed to break down at the worst possible time. Hopefully that will be an easy repair. Scones are ready. I'll expect you in half an hour or so. Ceejay - lots of ways to get rid of the ants. Never tried bleach but don't see why it wouldn't work. What would worry me would be the effect on the soil and surrounding plants. Happy - I don't think much of $2.50ph unless you had 1500 in the class all paying the fee. Reckon I could cope with that amount of people? Especially old and rascally people? Laura - I thought the purpose of the classes was to make you all sweaty and sore. Stretching things you hadn't stretched in forever - or sometimes didn't even know you had those things. But everything in moderation apparently works as well - just look at the weight you have lost. Your garden sounds interesting - just like my friend Chris in NZ - she has veges popping up in all sorts of places and sometimes in the flower beds as well. Parsley makes an interesting border plant. Annie - the Fish fry sounded great. And it is good that you had a reasonable visit with the annoying bro and his wife. I have to shoo the cat off the garden from time to time but I'll bet she is not as bad as Sassy. I'm done. Time to get back into it again. Hang out the towels, put the sheets and pillow cases into the wash. Then I can mark that one off and get on with the windows. |
:cofdate: Sorry gals....om the run already.
One maint. man is on vacation. No one told me...and if they did I didn't listen :lol3: Maybe check in later on. Gonna be a busy day. If not, see you gals tomorrow. Have a wonderful day:encore: |
Ok....time to rest for a second.
People are running late and called to say so. That's OK by me. Happy.....you are the busy gardener. Not sure shad would take on that much aggravation for $2.50 Maybe we should go all out and make it $3.50!!!  Ceejay....hope the computer made it thru the day. Being back at work must be a real change up from vacation. The yoga video sounds good. The PT lady comes here once a week to the community room. She is forever telling the people here to walk & stretch!!! Shad....maybe we can hook up one of my chairs to the electric. Much easier to push a joystick than to pedal   How did the interviews go for your friend? Good luck with the coco. Annie...had a laugh at the damage from Sass. She surely gets around....LOL I am glad the 3 dqays flew by without a hitch. Especially with everyone getting along. Hope Dad enjoyed the company too. |
Morning
Mel You are an early riser for sure. Shad I wish I could take most of the stuff to the Goodwill or to throw it sway, but like you some things I have to keep. And some thing need to stay inside and not in the shed. Are You going to wash the window? Annie You always have more to do. But glad you had a decent visit with Bro and his wife. -------------- Yesterday was okay and nothing drastic such as a major power outage Did have a couple of streets that lost power but that wasn't bad. Everything else ran smooth. I was expecting calls about garbage pick up but not one person called about that. I did have a few that stated they had cut notices for that day, but since no one was here to do that I told them to pay first thing in the morning. Went through some exercise DVD's last night and found a beginner's Yoga. I did most of it, for about 20 minutes but the sitting poses I could not do. Mostly because of my knees. I will probably stick with my DVD with Peggy Cappy Yoga DVD made for the rest of us. She uses a chair. I can do most of hers. But I sure would like to get into some of the poses that my nephew's wife does. She, however, is advanced and actually teaches Yoga. |
Morning all. Happy Tuesday/Wed.
Ceejay - Glad your workday was quiet yesterday. Good job on the yoga. :) I think it takes time to get to the ability to do a lot of the poses, so don't give up and be patient!! Mel - Hope your day's not too busy - it's nice to be able to ease into the week if at all possible. As for the senior computer training - Shad might be thinking there's not enough money in the world to do that. Shad - Sweaty and sore is one thing, extreme soreness for days on end is quite another. Sunday's class turned out to leave my quads fatigued and slightly sore right after the class, but not the delayed onset variety that comes the next day. But my pecs were sore the next day. Guess it depends on how accustomed the muscles are to being worked. Good luck with getting the bedroom cleared out. Annie - Sounds like you had a fantastic weekend! Glad the visit by the bro and SIL wasn't too much of a trial. Hellos to the rest of you! === Nothing much to report. We didn't end up doing too much yesterday. It was overcast and gloomy all day, but no rain to speak of until after I went to bed last night. I did some stuff around the house - laundry, etc. The spots on the jacket didn't come out or are now white - which I think is from leftover Oxy clean, which I understand has a bleaching effect if it's left to dry on the fabric. Guess I didn't get it all rinsed out from the previous attempt. So the jacket is going to end up for dog walks only I guess. I finally got around to filling one of the bobbins I bought a few months ago (Singer brand) and it worked fine in my sewing machine. I closely compared both these new ones and the ones I'd bought previously (Dritz) to one of my old bobbins and even though both are labeled as Class 15, the previous ones were a smidge different in size and that was enough for them not to work properly in my machine. I pinned and machine-stitched the hem I lowered on a pair of my thrift store slacks, and I also mended a couple items. Watched a library dvd movie - "Robot and Frank" with Frank Langella. It was a cute movie that takes place in the near future. The main character is experiencing Alzheimer-type symptoms and his son gets him a robot to help out around the house, keep him to a routine, etc. As the man gets accustomed to the robot he realizes he can use him to assist with jewel thievery, LOL, his former profession. I was going to skip the movies tonight and exercise, but the movie chosen is The Great Gatsby and I'm interested in seeing it despite some very mixed reviews. I will probably go. Well, it's ww weigh-in day today and my scale at home was up quite a bit, so I surely see a gain today. But it will be well-deserved - I didn't track a single thing I ate all weekend long, and we ate out 4 times, and that's just restaurant meals, doesn't even include the cookout on Sunday. Anyway, back to tracking today. That's it for now. Back to work. |
Quick post for me. Santa and I had a great weekend with old friends and new friends. Yesterday's BBQ was quite crowded, and Santa barked A LOT so we left early. After we got home, we just vegged out in front of the TV.
For some reason, I couldn't fall asleep until well after 11 pm, so I'm quite tired and hoping the coffee kicks in soon. I'll read later about your weekends...I hope they were fun and/or relaxing. Much love, |
Morning all,
Back to work for most of the Worldlies. I have to go to town this afternoon to start orientation/training for the Thrift Store. It's run by volunteers - all proceeds to the benefit of the Humane Society. Does double duty of getting out for a bit and seeing people. The lady I will work with today is a delightful lady - said the people who come into the thrift store are not as "snooty" :snooty: as the out of towners who stroll through and shop on Main street. I go in tomorrow for a morning set to sit with the man in charge of all the volunteers and the shop itself. Shifts will be 4 hours. I only wanted to do twice month but that seems so little so I'll probably sign up for once a week. My recent bunion pain and cost is still fresh in my mind so no over doing it. ;) Yesterday I did more container planting. Got the last of the container veggies done - container tomatoes, baby carrots, summer squash. Had to dig all the dirt out of our log planter in the yard, when I loosened the dirt it was chock full of ants. Those little buggers are everywhere. Got a few containers of flowers done too - DH came out to help. We ran out of dirt and went to Walmart and decided to pick up some Chinese food for dinner. Yum. I had to walk clear across the store twice to pick up the stuff I needed and realized I was just plum tired. Exhausted. So when we got home we ate and then I just packed up everything into the greenhouse. Not going to get too much done today - I was counting on it raining last night and it didn't so I have to run the hose out to the garden today. Need to be in the shower by noon so that doesn't leave me much time today. Ceejay - good going on the yoga. I have a Peggy Cappy DVD also . That's very gentle yoga. With my knees and wrists I think I will always have to do modified poses of several moves like the downward dog. Like anything, with practice you will stretch and gain flexibility. When you feel Peggy just isn't doing anything for you any more, perhaps you can trade her in for a newer model  I selected my DVDs on Amazon dot com by looking at reviews. This way you can weed out the more challenging ones that appeal to well experienced people or twenty somethings and find something written by people like yourself. Laura - that's unfortunate that your jacket wound up with problems. I would get grease stains on my shirts from the popcorn place and had a difficult time getting them out. I think I used a combination of Tide and Oxy Clean but like you said let it sit a bit but not dry out on the fabric. Not so sure I like Oxy Clean - some people claim it's responsible for creating those tiny holes in t-shirt fabric around the belly button line. Don't know about that but I do think it might be a bit more harsh on fabrics than they claim it is. Interesting premise on the movie Robot and Frank. Hope you do ok on weigh in today - funny how a meal or two off plan just jazzes up the works! Annie - Sassy sure did a number on your garden :yikes: Sounds like you need a fence. Not sure if giving her an area of her own to dig in is the best option - she might not be able to tell the difference between on and off limits. Apparently like you have a digger though. Seems like you had a good time with Lil Man too. That's great! Dinner sounded delicious too - so sad I missed it :( Mel - no rest for the wicked - on the move already are yah? :s: I totally agree with the exercise lady at your place about moving. My Mom's knees bother her something terrible but it seems when she goes to my sister's and moves around more she does feel better. Just gets tired quickly. Maybe we need to line up the seniors with the hand harnesses like they do with the preschoolers and march them around the block and tire them out. OMG - can you IMAGINE? Shad - sounds like you are making great progress going through the house and purging. I guess that's the secret - periodically do that. The problem with me is that most of the time when I'm in the mood to do that I have other stuff planned. But some of the time I actually get to it and feel better for having it done. Isn't it funny how the outgo always rises much faster than the income???? For years people have been getting told a big story about how there's no money for raises yet food, gas, housing, taxes continue to rise. Meanwhile we just get used to doing more with less. Or doing without entirely. Hi Michelle  Nothing's getting done sitting here so I'd best get off the computer and get out there and water things. Have a good day - short work week for most of you. |
Afternoon all from the dreary, muggy, cloudy, gray Indiana. Not supposed to rain until tonight. Pacers are s*cking in the pay-offs but my man Tony Kanaan won the Indy 500. Life is good.
Finally got the fence around the garden. Sassy just sat and looked at the garden through the fence. C and I laughed at her. Got my plant re-planted. Still need to get the cucumbers re-planted. Got the sheets washed, dried and folded but not yet on back on the guest bed. Didn't get much accomplished other than that yesterday. HAPPY....seems we both have been doing some gardening lately. One thing good with all this rain, certainly do not have to water in my neck of the woods. Next will be a drought. I do need to get out and cut the back grass. CHELLE...You sound so busy, active and happy for the most part. I am so happy for you and Santa. LAURA...I, too want to see the The Great Gatsby. Let me know how it fairs. Good luck on the WI. Holidays and eating out are hard hard on the healthy eating. CEEG...good for you on the yoga. I really need to do something. MELLIE...I will go with no one told you the maintenance man would be on vacation. SHADDIE...everything is rising in cost except my paycheck. It has been over a year since the last raise and there are none on the horizon. But you can bet your sweet bippy that the upper management got their raises AND bonuses. Strikes a nerve with me. Hello to everyone. Loves and hugs. |
Laura
I definitely want to see the Great Gatsby. I had to read that book for English Literature way back when. Happy Good for you in volunteering at the Humane Thrift Shop. I have the same problem as you do with the wrist and knees. I may have to stay with Peggy for a while. She has both chair and regular moves on the same DVD. I found some more poses online today and will kinda go through a routine with those tonight. There are also some good things online if I could remember how I found them. Annie Sounds like you do quiet a bit of exercise working outside. Mowing the lawn is very good exercise unless you have a riding lawn mower. ------------ Work has been good until now. There is a small power outage. My boss friend is telling every one that he's retiring in 2 years, even the Mayor. The publics work director has already put an add in the Jonesboro newspaper. I will be surprised that some one from Jonesboro will move here and accept that position. People are leaving here and moving there. I hope his plan doesn't back fire on him. He's also putting his house on the market. I haven't told anyone for sure and certain that I'm leaving here at age 65, but I'm not taking any more crap off of them either. Hopefully my anxiety meds will help me through these next couple of years. |
Pretty dreary here too Annie. What happened to our fabulous winter weather. Usually deep blue sky, nice day temps and cool nights, but not so far this year. Hope it resumes normal weather patterns soon.
I've been through another Denise Austin Yoga routine this morning. Heel is still not ready to run. But it at least gives me a reasonable work out. Will have to try another dvd tomorrow - maybe Jillian's 'Shape up frontside' or maybe the 'Shape up backside' It will be nice to have a bit of a change. And I should work up a reasonable sweat with those. Mel - not sure even 3.50 would compensate for the extra grey hair I would reap from a course like that. I used to be able to do it, but not sure about now. Chris' job interview did not go well. Mainly because they changed the goal posts and it is considered that the job may be too junior for her. I suspect they have promoted from within and need a junior to cause further havoc. Ceejay - windows are my least favourite job. I am doing the insides at the moment. When I get to the outside, I use one of those sprays that fit on the end of the hose. Then I dry off what I can and go over them with methylated spirits - having a good sniff as I go  Only way to enjoy the cr*ppy job. Hope you can come to an understanding about the job. Sounds like the boss has some plans in mind for retirement which is good. We should all plan for the life after work. It isn't always easy. Laura - shame the spots didn't come out or that the cleaner managed to bleach them. Personally I don't think the store (even it was an Op Shop) should sell things with stains on, but then as far as the Op Shop stuff goes, I guess it is a case of buyer beware. We are having the Great Gatsby pushed at us big time here. I haven't been to see it. I rarely go to the movies anyway. Hope the scale doesn't give you too much grief. Happy - think I might settle for 2 times a month volunteering just to see how it goes with the foot. You can always ramp it up if you need to. No point in going in all guns blazing and then have to leave it because of pain. The garden is starting to sound good. No doubt some rascally bear will be in for a feed of flowers and grass at some time. Good idea to protect the vege patch although a determined bear or deer will make a mess of that. Marching the seniors around the block would only work if you did it in batches and had them on leads. Then you would probably get through the ordeal. And you would probably get the freedom and liberty movement ****s out in force! Are you volunteering to help Mel with that. We could probably hire a couple of trained sheep dogs to keep them on the straight and narrow. I'd volunteer my two since they were both good at shepherding but neither of them are here any more. And even if they were, they would be so old, they would probably aid and abet the seniors anyway. Yep doing without entirely is what a lot of people are doing around here. What with profits going up, utility prices going up, food prices going up, petrol prices up again, it's not an easy world to live in on a fixed income. Yet the rich get richer, pay less taxes and spend less as well. This mining boom is not really helping anything here. Not your average person anyway. And our political situation sucks. Annie - taking away Sassy's fun - you mean mum you! I hear you about the cost of living and things. You try to provide for yourself and your family and because you work hard and don't ask for anything, you get stung time and time again. Don't start me. Anyway, it is time to get out there while the sun is shining. Time to plant out the chili bushes. They've been growing wild in the garden and need to be harnessed to a specific spot. Also have some washing to hang out. So tea break is over. Time to get on with it. |
Testing. Well that works. Must be just facebook that is causing me problems.

Good evening ladies,
Santa and I are having a relaxing evening watching The Voice that I recorded last night. I'm hoping that I sleep better tonight than I did last night when I didn't fall asleep until nearly midnight. A lot of you are commenting about how happy I sound. In some ways, I'm happier than I have been in so long. My life is far from perfect or settled, and I'm struggling a bit with the programming languages used at work, but I'm so much more light-hearted than I have been in the past few years. I will probably check out another doggie day care...this one is part of the PetSmart store. My current day care is really good, but I have to pick Santa up by 7, and there Shad - I'm glad the medicine is helping you so you don't scratch at night. Is the lichen clearing up or just not as itchy? Ceejay - good for you for doing so much outside over the weekend! I want to help my step-mom more around the house. My step-brother does a great job of taking care of the yard, so I'm helping with vacuuming, dishes, etc., and when she gets back from the trip she's currently on, I've got a couple recipes I want to try. I've used a Peggy Cappy Yoga for the rest of us DVD. Good way to do sensible, back friendly moves. Mel - I love the hummingbird graphic you posted. The other day, I was walking along, and noticed a hummingbird fluttering next to a bush. I was less than a foot away. Must've been some tasty nectar for it to stay put even though I was so close. I hope your frig gets fixed. Happy - What a great idea to use the pine needles to make a tick-free path. I totally understand your getting the heebie-jeebies at the ticks on you. I found a tick on me many years ago after hiking in the woods. I was taking a shower, saw it on my thigh and freaked out. I yanked on it, but it had already attached, so the head stayed attached. I ended up going to the doc, and he dug the head out of my thigh. Yuck! And my ex's sister contracted Lyme disease and will be on meds for the rest of her life for it to maintain brain health. She's an artist who can no longer paint due to the effects of the lyme disease on her joints. So please be careful with regard to ticks. Your garden sounds absolutely lovely. You and Annie will easily get your 5 servings of veggies once the harvest starts. How did the Thrift Store training go? I've been in some thrift stores that have that funky smell that can give me a headache if I'm in there too long. Hopefully, your thrift store doesn't have that. Laura - Glad you had a nice time with your former co-worker and friends. Sounds like you had a weekend with a nice mix of fun, friends and relaxation. If you see Great Gatsby, please let me know how it is. It's one I've been thinking about seeing. Annie - A busy but fun weekend, huh? glad things went okay with your brother and SIL. The stuff you made for the dinner at your brothers made my mouth water. Okay...gotta sign off for the night. Much love to all, |
Morning
Michelle That's the DVD I have with Peggy Cappy. Plus I also ordered some more of her DVD's but they're all basically the same moves. It's a good work out for me. When and if I get more limber I'll try some other poses. I'm looking forward to my long week end. Talked to the boss who is mowing my lawn and he said that they couldn't mow until Sunday. Think I'm going to mow the lawn myself. His son is just to busy to keep it mowed like I want it too. More exercise for me. |
