  • Shad - Yeh, the crown is only on the radar because we can have our out of pocket expense amounts taken out of our payroll check without being taxed on it. If you don't use it in the calendar year, you LOSE IT, so one has to estimate this amount carefully. Reminds me, have to check this year's remaining balance and see if it'll get used or if we have to find a way to use it...Might be buying a few boxes of contact lenses in December.

Annie - Oh how sucky that IT did that - cc'g your boss. Could have just warned you and been done with it. I don't think our IT group looks at anyone's internet usage unless their boss believes there's an issue and wishes to confirm it. I know what you mean about not having time to post after work. In my case, it's just not wanting to sit in front of the computer anymore after doing it all day, and I also don't like our home office much so I tend to avoid it! For sure gonna keep praying for lil Jake. Get some sleep girl, we don't need you getting sick and not being able to visit the little guy!!
  • Back from one day in Jonesboro. The meeting went well.

    Annie
The IT man should have warned you. I'm going to miss the updates on lil Monkey and hearing about you and Curtis. :sigh:

    WILL TRY AGAIN TOMORROW
  • Hi all,

took a breather here for a minute. This is just as crazy as when I was working. Up in the morning, stuff to do - all day long, maybe peek at the Internet for a minute at midnight and curse myself for staying up too late. So far I have not experienced "being retired". We set this house up with extra odds and ends like a sort of "vacation house" with just enough to get by when we visited. Now I have to pitch all of that and carefully plan out where everything will go for the permanent home since I don't have alot of room of inside storage space. Then I have the adventure of finding the stuff I need first and most with over 300 boxes of stuff that is in a 3 car garage, storage shed and 2 car "man cave". The movers had a couple come in on Wednesday who packed my kitchen, downstairs bath and dining room. They did a great job and not only listed where the stuff came from but also what they packed in the boxes. Unfortunately they only came for one day. The 3 guys who moved the stuff packed Thursday (I think they expected me to pack up most of the house - fat HA HA there) and IF we were lucky they marked the room of the box they packed - but no contents and most of the boxes have nothing at all on them. So it's a great big mystery. I needed lamps and found 3 lamp bases in 2 boxes, a single shade in another box and who knows where the light bulbs are! I had a beautiful large artificial flower arrangement on my dining room buffet. They shoved and I mean shoved it in a box with a lamp on top of it. The piece is ruined - all the flowers are crushed beyond repair. It was a housewarming gift from my sister in law and cost over $100. I think we are going to find more broken and damaged stuff as we go through it. Right now it's just rather overwheming. I want to get the house in some basic order. Also my credit card got compromised before we left and I still haven't gotten the replacement which worries me that it's floating back and forth between here and Tennessee. My insurance has not kicked in and we are locked out of our mail order medications and who knows what kind of medical insurance we have. I still have not gotten the COBRA papers to sign up for dental insurance - so much for 6 months of free premiums I got when it takes me 5 months to get it set up. Our out sourced benefits vendor SUCKS BIG TIME!!!! Useless, totally useless. I submitted my health care reimbursement expenses to the tune of $4,000 before we left and they still have not processed our claim. And while I had a delivery confirmation filed with the post office, darned if I CAN'T FIND THE RECEIPT to check if they got it And next week starts the holidays. So it's been hectic. Friday they do the closing on our house in Memphis, so far it looks good so we should see a nice bank deposit come Saturday morning. At least that is out of our hair. It's quite cold here - snow flurries each day - they were talking a 6 inch snowstorm for Saturday but are talking that down already. Thank God for personal heaters I had at work and fleece from the Land's End store. My cousin keeps telling me to calm down that I have the rest of my life to get moved in but I just want to get the basics done. It's in the low teens temperature at night and I want to get some of the stuff out of the garage. DH found 2 of my music box snow globes looking for the power cord to his tv and they would have frozen and broken for sure if he didn't rescue them. I also finally got to do some grocery shopping today - monster bill over $400 but considering we had nothing but a box of Sugar Pops, some tea and 2 cans of soup, guess you could say the cupboards were bare Will be making clam chower and beef oxtail soup tomorrow.

Mel - sounds like you did a mega shopping haul. So you have all the food until New Years? Wow. The pork roast sounds delicious - I'm sure you will have a great meal. Let us know if you find any good recipes in those magazines...

Ceejay - you sure have had the wild weather. We left the heat on low when we left, I'm sure the buyers turned the air conditioning on when they did their final inspection a few days later and I see now it's almost freezing out there again. What crazy swings. Sound like you got a ridiculous amount of rain there. Hope you didn't float away

Shad - that is awful about the teeth. One guy at work had one of those pricy implants - it sure took a long time and many dentist visits to get taken care of. Before you do this ask the dentist if there are things you won't be able to eat once you get the implant or if it needs special care. Something that I can't remember exactly had me asking him if he thought it was worth it in the long run. Will your mouth be buzzing at security in the airport? You know you travel alot I'm glad to hear you will be going home for Christmas to be with your family.

Annie - that really stinks about getting cut off at work - especially "abusing" it - you didn't post that much. They are crazy. Abusing is downloading music and playing internet games and emailing all day long. I guess we will get updates via Facebook. Glad things are going well with Curtis. I keep sending good wishes for baby Jake - he is really growing which is good - I guess it's hard to realize that even when they come out of the oven, they are still not ready and things are developing - just like their little tummies. I know you are all anxious to take him home but I'm sure it will be best if he's ready. I would be nervous and watching him 7 by 24 if he was home. Sissy looked tired in the picture you posted. Is the hospital far from home? I assume she is home now.

Michelle - it just sucks being here in Packer land. But I suck it up and take the high road and try not to be too obvious rolling my eyes So DMIL will be here before you know it. So nice she is spending the holidays with you. Sounds like you are still crazy busy. Good luck on the procedures for you and DH hope all goes well for both of you.

Laura - 2 words - gutter guards. Worth EVERY penny. That rotted leaf stuff is pretty nasty looking if you don't keep up with it. Do you have problems in the winter with snow and ice weighing them down and then dripping all over your sidewalks? You will have to give us the run down on that book "The Stupidest Angel" sounds like a very different kind of holiday book - but then again when you think about all the books ever written, how can people come up with new story lines after a while?

    Hi Amarantha

Well one thing I am sooooo happy to be back north again - good DAIRY - good cheese, good milk, good butter. And I was happy to see some old favorites like Vienna Beef hot dogs. I'm kind of thinking the beef will taste better too. We'll see when we chomp into the pan fried steak tomorrow night.

I've babbled far too long. Should see if I can get to sleep a little earlier tonight - might take a snort of Nyquil cold medicine just to help me sleep. Goodnight chicks...
  • Happy Friday ladies -

Sorry but I have to keep this short. Really. I've got a full day of work to cram into 1/2 day, then it's off to the vet, then home to clean, do website work, and then shop.

The pain is getting worse during the day, and even at night. It hurts to move, roll over, everything. I so hope this procedure helps!

    *****************

Laura - It is chillier nowadays. Today will warm up to low 40s (which is where we'll be most of the weekend). I hope you had a good time at exercise class.

Annie - Bummer that you can't post at work. We'll still be praying for Jake and all of you. I'm glad Curtis is so good to you...you definitely deserve the best.

Ceejay - So glad the meeting in Jonesboro goes well. Sending : for your doc appt today.

Mel - So happy to hear you were successful at Walmart. I hope you get to relax a bit with some good movies and a warm comforter.

Happy - We had to have people (our friends and relatives) help us pack when we moved here. And since it was free help, we couldn't make too many requests. Some listed the contents of the box. Others just put "fragile" even if it wasn't. 10 years later and we're still looking for things! We don't have much storage space either...so we keep a lot of stuff in the basement. That's why I say take as much time as you need to unpack and organize. That's so sad about your flower arrangement. And I can understand your concerns about the credit card. That's awful about the hassles with the COBRA and other insurance nightmares. As for your weekend snowstorm, they're saying rain here...please keep the "S" up your way. As for being in Packerland...it was your choice to move there...so you're a Cheesehead now! Gutter guards...Laura already has them...and they're on our list (hopefully next year). And yes, the rotted leaf stuff was nasty. And since the tree in the front yard is still dropping leaves (and yet still looks like it hasn't dropped any), the lawns are covered and the gutters are full AGAIN! You're right the dairy (and the beef) are so much better here in Cheeseland than anywhere else in the country!

Amarantha - Hope you're having a fabulous Friday!

I'll be back this weekend when I can...lots of cleaning and website work to do. I keep telling myself...I'll be relaxing (out of necessity) next weekend.

    Love and hugs to all,
  • Morning all. TGIF.

Ceejay – Glad the meeting went well. More safe travels today!

Mel – Wow, that sounds like some shopping trip. Congrats on getting it all done!! And working the office after that - you rock Mellie. Sure hope you had a nice restful evening with your feet up in front of the tv.

Happy – You poor thing, you sound so overwhelmed! I’d be soooo aggravated about the way the boxes were packed – hope you don’t find too much more damage. I agree with your cousin – you have plenty of time for the unpacking – take your time! (But I agree w/ you about the stuff in the garage – get to that quick so the cold doesn’t damage it.) It’s the medical/insurance/financial stuff that sounds like a major PITA to deal with. Just take a lot of breaks and a lot of deep breaths. Did you and dh get your photo of your first day in your home, i.e., the first day of retirement?? Just think, you don’t have to rush through trying to fit as much as you can into a weekend, and you can push stuff off to another day if you want/need to!!

As Michelle said, I’m the one w/ the gutter guards – though I did mention my neighbors without the guards making multiple trips to the roof to clean their gutters. Bf is so happy we don’t have to deal with that. However, we do seem to get more icicles now with the guards – not sure why, except I guess that snow settles on top of them and melts/freezes and so on.

Michelle – I’m so sorry you’ve been in pain! Stop with the overdoing it girl! Especially with the cleaning – I’ve decided it’s highly overrated, LOL.

Hellos to Shad, Annie & Amarantha.
    --
Got myself to the circuit class last night. Decent workout, but didn’t go all out . The last couple days I’ve had some mild asthma symptoms – not sure if it’s due to the cold air the past few days. Nothing severe, but just that tickly feeling when taking deep breaths – which makes me cough. Need to start using the inhaler now. Today my shoulder blade is bugging me. I could so go for a nice massage right about now!

Another quiet day at the office. I’m catching up on cleaning out my e-mail. Need to kick it into higher gear w/ the software transition though.

Tomorrow morning I’m meeting a former co-worker for breakfast. Been trying to eat better, so I need to really be careful tomorrow – those breakfasts out are usually when I eat stuff I never otherwise eat very often at all – eggs, pancakes, hash browns, corned beef hash. (Sorry for the food porn!) Need to go with better choices – maybe some kind of healthy veggie/egg white omelet or something. Also makes me think I’d like to make a batch of steel cut oats this weekend to have for breakfasts this week. And boil some eggs too.

More leaves to rake this weekend. Our maple is maybe 2/3 done. It’s very windy right now – maybe that’ll help finish it up. The backyard oak is not losing anything yet. BF got a quote for tree trimming. I have to say I hate when bf gets the quote and I’m not around – he just gears the questions, etc. toward his preferences, one of which is to totally remove the large maple tree in front and a small crab apple in back that is totally overgrown. But I have to be honest and admit I’m being too emotional about these trees (e.g., I just love when the crabapple blooms). Maybe I should just go with the plan. That big tree in front, the only thing I like is that it shades the house. Otherwise, I don’t like it. One of the previous owners allowed a sucker branch to just keep growing, and now it’s a major limb of the tree, and whenever I look at the tree, I hate that giant sucker branch. And after the tornado in May, the tree has several major limbs missing and it just looks odd. Even if we trimmed away some lower branches, I think it would still look goofy. I think I’ve just about talked myself into getting it removed, LOL.

Okay, enough of this novel. Time to post and get back to work. Have a great weekend all!
  • Mel
You did do a lot of shopping. But that's a good thing to plan ahead.

    Laura
I was concerned about your asthma and exercising. How did your breakfast go?

    Happy
I'm with the other's and just take one day at a time. And yes we're in a roller coaster type weather again. The weather people are saying that November is anothe good month for tornado's. Hope we don't get any of those.

    Michelle
Don't work to hard this week end. and Amarantha

    ----
Back again from Jonesboro. This time with a trip to the doctor's office. My "hip joint" pain turns out to be 3 bone spurs on my lower back bone. The doctor said my joints looked good. He also checked out my vericose vain and my toe nail fungus. Got my b12 two rx's and another shot for the bone spurs.

I called my uncle tonight to let them know I was okay. And that I would be at church Sunday morning. I need to get some things done here. Most of the inside stuff is done but I 'm mulching the leaves tomorrow. The ones that were raked to the side of the road last week are still there and I called street and sanitation to come and get them.
And the good news is that my electrical problems were fixed today. Worse than what I thought they were. Had to repair the electrical box. They changed out two plug ins and tried one and blew half the house's electrical. Needless to say that made me jump.

  • Quick post for me...DH and I checked out the new grocery store this morning. We bought the stuff that was reasonably priced and/or higher quality than our regular store...but we found that much of the stuff on our list was outrageously priced...so either he or I or both will have to go to our regular store tomorrow or Monday.

I completed a bit of website work...still more to do. Now it's time for cooking some make ahead meals and then cleaning. DH is being a real gem helping me out with the cleaning. I'm so lucky to have him!

Ceejay - I'm so sorry to hear about the bone spurs in your hip/back! That's awful. I hope the shot helps the pain. DH has bone spurs in his knee and I have one in my ankle. Hang in there, my friend.

I hope you all are having a great weekend! I gotta get back to it.

    Love and hugs to all,
  • Mel
Yes the i njection was cortisone and it kept me awake till 4 this morning. I woke up at 9.30 this morning and I have loads of stuff to do. He's starting with Mylexocam first 2 times per day.

    Michelle
I'm making a run to Blytheville to super Walmart and hope they haven't sold out completely on the things I'm wanting. I told myself that I'm going low carb as much as I can this week. And I'm taking things I can eat for Thanksgiving also. My sis is a very healthy eater so it will be easy. I'm asking her to evualate my insulin resistance. She's read my blood work before. I can deal with the bones spurs now that I know what they are. He also told me that my lower spine was a bit curved which cold be giving me some pain.
    ---
after my trip to the super Walmart I'm going to be mulching leaves.
  • Good Morning/Afternoon...I barely know which it is anymore. Worked at CVS this morning then ran over to a friend from CVS, her DDs house about 30 minutes away....Bought a Pack n Play (we called them play pens), carseat, bath, clothes, and toys for when he is two-ish. All for 25 bucks, barely used. Such a deal...the pack n play alone, new, is 159.00. Just got home and heading to the hospital to see my little love monkey.....nurse called Sissy this morning and said he is still doing great and goes home TOMORROW, SUNDAY, if no episodes between now and then. Yeah! I am so excited. Tomorrow, Curtis's DD and BoyF, and Sam and Chris (and baby?) are coming for lunch at noon. After seeing the babe, heading to the grocery to buy stuff for tomorrow and TG. Then home to clean the house...I am just exhausted thinking about the rest of the day....babe is 5 lbs 4 oz. today.....sorry my thoughts are random and out of order...I think about what I need to do and what I want to be doing, it all comes out jumbled.

Have a great weekend, I may get back her tomorrow night....loves and hugs all...
  • Dec Title: Worldlies Don't be Delusional in December, Just DO it.
  • Happy Saturday Ladies,

Wish Mel was here right now. It's doing the S word. Big, fat flakes. So pretty in the pine trees. We've gotten about 2 inches so far - about an inch more to go and it should be melted in about 3 days as it warms up again past freezing. I am getting used to being slightly cold all the time. Not getting used to the dry skin though. My hands are starting to crack and I'm itchy. Thank goodness I packed some lotion in my suitcase and I set aside my paraffin wax "dipper" where I can get to it right away. They fixed our fireplace heating stove this morning and I think I'm parking the rocking chair right in front of it and staying there all winter

Annie - I am soooo hoping that 'Lil Monkey comes home tomorrow. What a celebration. I understand the "which way do I go, so much to do syndrome". Just breathe, get organized, make a list and focus on one thing at a time. It's going to be a special Sunday for you. What a great haul on the baby stuff - that's the only way to go now - you're right - alot of the stuff is barely used and what a bargain. Good for you! And Sissy and the baby. Let's you have stuff like that on hand at your house for when they come to visit.

Ceejay - ouch on the bone spurs. You'll have to let me know how you do a low carb Thanksgiving dinner - everything I can think of outside of the bird is starch or sugar. At least everything I like! I think the insulin resistance is a cruel joke when the salty spicy stuff is no longer good for us and now they take away the sweet too! Enjoy your warm weather.

Michelle - I went to 3 different grocery stores here and groceries are definitely more expensive up this way. I think it's nice to have a choice - maybe you go to the more expensive place occasionally for a treat or special dinner and shop regularly at the more moderate place. How nice that DH is helping you get ready for DMIL and get things in place. Hope you make lots of money with the website work for a nice Christmas holiday.

Laura - how was your breakfast this morning? Breakfast out is one thing where it's hard to skip the yummy stuff - although I-hop has some nice not too deadly omlets - provided you only eat half of them. We haven't taken that first sunrise picture because while we've had peeks of sun in the afternoon, mostly it's been cloudy out. Missed the Leonid meteor shower Thursday and yesterday because of clouds.

It sure is DARK out here at night. I'd be afraid to walk off the porch to the garage Can't see anything with no lights out here. We do have at least 4 deer and a fox that feed all night long. My cousin lent us his trail cam and we have pictures.

Mel - hope they keep the seniors busy at the party and leave you alone. Swing on by and we'll take you for a sleigh ride. I'm sure you'd feel quite festive here today.

Shad - Just missed you on Facebook today. Was going to chat for a bit. Will catch you another time early riser.

Well the house in TN was sold. The new buyers were delighted with the house and the spiffy clean condition we left it in as well as the 2 pages of instructions we gave them about things like lights and timers and stuff they should know instead of trying to figure out for themselves. I do hope they decide to continue to feed Mr. Feral who is probably wondering why the house is all dark.

Anyway - I need to get a pot of soup on the stove and more stuff in the kitchen cabinets. So touch base with yahs later...
  • Annie
Sounds like you have had a productive day. And great news about lil monkey getting to come home. Let's pray he doesn't forget to breathe.

    Happy
I'd be a little skepitcal going out on the front porch at all espicially with the fox out and about. Not sure if they are dangerouss though. I love to see th e deer and turkey roaming about at my uncles.
The low carb Thanksgiving may not happen. It's the one time of year I really do like especiall the fellowship with cousins etc. One cousin will be in Texas but I get to see her more than soome of the others.
The white stuff before Thanksgiving. Put on clothes in layers. Do you have a fire place?

    ----
The leaves are done. Nearly killed my back. The ones that were out by the road are no longer there. Even sacked 5 garbage bags of mulch. Now what I do with those is beyond me. We do have a compost plant just have no idea where it's located.
It's time for bed. night all
  • Evening all,

Been a busy weekend what with cleaning the house, sorting out the garden and planting some more plants and then trying to sort out the watering system which hasn't been used for some years.

So I now have rocket, lettuce, beans, onions, carrots, beetroot, tomato and corn in the garden. Still have a little room for some more but there is a group of plants growing where the spinach and rocket used to be and I think these are the result of plants going to seed. Can't actually tell what they are yet. I also think there may be a potato plant coming up in the middle of the lettuce patch. Again, we will have to check it out as it gets bigger.

So it is late and I am tired. Just waiting for the buzzer to go off so I can shut off the water and go to bed.

Annie - good to hear that lil monkey may well be coming home today. for you and the family.

Happy - sorry I missed you on facebook. Must have just missed each other since you had only been gone a couple of minutes when I came back.

Hello to the rest. Too tired to go back and check the pages to get info for personals. Tomorrow maybe. Night all........zzzzzz.............zzzzzzzzzzzzz.
