I just peeked in here to see what was going on. Boy we have had the wind and rain today. It comes in waves and you think it is over than it comes back for more. We dropped 20 degrees in 10 minutes and it is upper 50's now.
Jean: Why is there glue on candles? I am glad Thomas is in county schools here. They aren't great but sure better than city. He goes to jr high next year so they have to make a decision about private or public school for him.
Susan: Thomas has one of THE most fantastic recalls I have ever seen. He remembers everything he ever sees, reads or whatever. His Nonny on the other hand had trouble memorizing her times tables as a kid and any memorization for school was hard for me until I found the answer. If I can put something to music I can learn anything. Jack laughs at me because I can recall the lyrics to almost any song I have heard. I learned the preamble to the constitution using the song from those old cartoon tv spots they used to put at the end of the cartoons "Schoolhouse Rock." When I was in college I memorized stuff by putting it to music and made the dean's list that way. I got a big chuckle out of you hating gym and now you workout more than all three of us combined. I only hated gymnastics in gym. That was impossible for me.
Well, onward and upward as I am getting laundry done. I gave up cleaning with the wet weather as Jack will just track stuff in on my clean floors. Guess it will hold out one more day. See you tomorrow! Faye
Not much happening here in the Heartland area this day. I have the ingredients that go in the crock pot for the Stroganoff and it will be ready at dinner time. Our guests won't be able to make it afterall so I will have some to freeze for a later dinner since I am doubleing the recipe. I cut up the meat and all the veggies and measured out the spices last night so all I would have to do today was mix it together with the liquids in the crockpot. I love it when a plan comes together.
SUSAN I got all A's even in PE because I took classes in PE that I liked. I took swimming. And Pep Club was also considered PE. They separated the top grade earners out back then and put us all in the same classes and taught us college classes and they called us the X students. The X was for x-cell. I don't think they can do that now days which is too bad. I don't even think PE is required now days either. If you went nowdays you would have gotten straight A's. Schools on the West coast were the best back then and now they are the worst. I certanly am not even close to having a photograph memory ~ I'm just a plodder I guess.
JEAN Hope your haircut turns out satisfactory this time. How do those candle glasses get gunk on them? Is it from the name stickers?
DONNA FAYE You can keep your wind thank you for we have enough of our own here. Your grandson will get good grades through out his schooling I would imagine. That is neat you can rember by putting things to music. Clever way to learn and retain.
I need to get somethings done this day so I will say good day Type at y'all later.
Good morning all. It is significantly cooler this morning than it was yesterday but it still isn't really fall weather. The leaves are falling, but slowly so it may be November before we can get them cleaned up for the year. The deck is kind of a mess at the moment, but it is way too wet now to do anything with it. I imagine in the next couple weeks we will have to get out there and attack it and clean it up for winter.
Yesterday was flea treatment day for Fortune, which I always hate. You would think they could find a way to put it on the dog without it being such a darn mess. It isn't so bad I imagine for a dog that has longer hair, but we keep Fortune's coat shorter so it always tries to run all over the place. I did a fair job yesterday though by applying it in small amount across the neck area instead of one area alone. He also got his weekly clean the teeth bone this morning. I try and do that along with brushing his teeth so he doesn't have to have them cleaned because frankly it is really expensive. They put him to sleep and clean them and it costs about $150! I have only had to have it done once and that was years ago so guess I do an ok job with his teeth now.
Watched a cute movie on one of the movie channels this morning, "Old Dogs" with Robin Williams and John Travolta. Most of the humor in the movie was the last few minutes though, but it was a cute family film I think.
Nothing else much going on here. Jack actually came home last night without his knee hurting. I am hoping they don't jerk him around but do an MRI right away to see what is causing the problem because I don't think it is arthritis. I think he tore the meniscus on the other knee as the pain is in the same area and not at the joint. I guess we will see next week when he goes in.
Have a great hump day all. I am going to hunt up some breakfast and I think work on that other sock today and get it done so I can block them. Faye
Good afternoon, ladies! Its 81 degrees and climbing.
Today was just the Y and after I finish this I am going to start getting my projects ready for retreat.
Faye, I thought about you. I had Chili Rellenos and they were made the way you like, not puffed up. They were delicious.
Jean, you asked how many days I have quilting - here goes:
1st Thursday - First Thursday Bee
2nd Monday - Bella's Belles Applique
2nd Tuesday - Evening Peninsula Piecemakers Quilt Guild
2nd Friday - Day PPQG
3rd Monday - Ladies of the Evening Applique
3rd Wednesday - Baltimore Beauties Applique
3rd Friday - Bella Quilt Shop Lock In
4th Tuesday - River Country Quilters
4th Friday - English Paper Piecing Bee (we haven't come up with a name yet)
And, of course, my friends and I get together just for fun to quilt occasionally. I'm teaching One Block Wonders (a quilt pattern) January 8th. I used to teach a lot but am just getting back into it again. I get $150 - $275 for a full day class (9-4) plus mileage and lunch. There aren't too many of us who teach hand quilting so they come to me for that every once in awhile.
Maggie, we didn't have any choice in PE. There was one class and in high school it was taught by a woman who was very tiny, old (she hung onto the back of a chair for support most of the class) and mean. 2 days a week we had to tap dance. Can you picture an overweight teen tap dancing? That was me.
Have a good day.

It is a chilly day in the 60's this day in the Heartland. Yesser it is fall. Supposed to have frost on the pumpkin tonight. Our furnace is set for 69 and it had to come on for the first time this season and burn off the dust it collected in its parts over the year. I lit a nice candle in my office and that is what I smell instead of dust burning. Will had to do some errands out and about and brought home some of those delicious carnitas tacos. Yumey lunch for sure. Ragg Mopps groomer is going to give me some recipes to make him some treats that don't have any "bad" for him stuff in them.
DONNA FAYE We give Ragg Mopp meds that keep fleas, ticks and mosquitos away. We get the kind that we put drops on his neck right behind his head and down the back bone parting the hair and getting it on his skin. Then we give him his tasty treat that is for heart worm so he doesn't get that horrible dog malady. I would hate to tackle bathing him though. His groomer does such a nice job of that. I am a firm believer if you have a pet ~ take good care of it and I believe you feel the same way about your Fortune.
SUSAN You have quite a schedule there ~ keeps you young. Believe me I do feel blessed that I had such wonderful schools to attend in those days. I don't recall ever having a mean teacher. Strict but not mean. The strict ones kept me in line and the not so strict ones didn't know exactly what to do with me. I'll never forget the time my typing teacher took me and my desk outside on the covered walkway and had me do my days lesson with kids walking up and down it. All our class doors opened to the outside and it was single story type building. Outside was a cement walk next to the bulding and grass on the other side of the walk. Well I finished my assigments quickly and by the time the teacher came out to fetch me I was merily talking with a bunch of my friends all sitting on the grass. My teacher thought I couldn't do my work with so may distractions and wanted to prove a point but it didn't get proven by me. From then on to get me out of the classroom he put me in his office where all the fun machines were. All by myself I was for that whole period. It was the last class of the day right after swimming. But when the vice principal who was the Girls League sponsor found out about that little arrangement she asked how long it took to do my work and when I told her she said she would send a monitor after me to come to her office for the rest of the period. It was much more fun hanging out in the Vice Principals office for sure. I loved school.
JEAN What are you up to this day?
I need to check on some stuff I have going so I am going. Type at y'all later.
Good Afternoon, Flowers! It's another day of strong winds, clouds, and cold. I left early (for me) this morning to get my nails done. The shop has all Asians working there and I don't think they had the heat turned on yet. It was cold in there! Then I went to church to help with the newsletter which wasn't ready so worked on some Sunday School things for awhile. The heat isn't on there either and I was so cold! Bob called about lunch so we went out for a sandwich and HOT coffee. I have bell practice at 5, and then the "ringers" are going out to eat after practice. One of our older members has decided to retire after 30 years because she and her husband leave for AZ in Nov. and don't return until April. She feels guilty asking anyone to sub for that long. Needless to say I didn't get much done on the home front. I did clear off the kitchen counter this morning before I left!
Susan -- You are one busy quilter! When you do the applique, do you sew the design on top of the "finished" quilt or is it sewn in as part of the main layer? Does that question make any sense? I'll bet you are an excellent teacher! It's nice to have some extra spending money.
Maggie -- My haircut is "ok" this time. I'm trying to 2nd guess when I will either need a cut (no curl left at all) or need a perm. We are going on a 2 day bus trip for a "Kansas City Christmas" the first weekend in Dec. which is when I should be needing a perm. With the humidity lower my hair is limper. The candle "gunk" is residue left from peeling the name labels off the candle container glass.
"Gma" -- The church candles are in tall glass containers and the secretary designs the names, a cross, stained glass window, etc. on large sticky labels. I'm wondering if we take the labels off asap if they will leave as much goo behind. I had to chuckle at you brushing Fortune's teeth. I imagine a dog would tolerate that better than a cat! I'm glad Jack's knee seems to be better; I can tell if I sit at a wrong angle cuz I pay for it later.
I'm off to change clothes! Have a wonderful rest of the day and evening!
Good Morning, Flowers! The sun is trying hard to shine between the clouds, still a little windy but nothing like the last 3 days, and it's COLD at 31 degrees! I'm just not mentally ready for winter and don't think I ever will be. I was cold all day yesterday and finally warmed up when I went to bed with my socks on! Today is WW and afterwards a trip to the grocery store and maybe WM. It's supposed to rain for Halloween night but I don't have anything for trick or treaters; we have 2 new little ones living on our block now so might have them stop by.
I need to do some laundry -- my basement floor has had evidence of being wet around the drain a couple times. Bob finally figured out the sump pump "thingy" was slimy from soap scum and wasn't going high enough to pump out washer water. It's fixed now so Ernie won't have to get his feet wet when he goes to his bathroom.
