Good Afternoon, Flowers! I've been outside helping pick up branches, twigs, leaves, etc., from our yard as well as the 'good' neighbors next door. We had a half hour+ major wind storm last night -- one where all of a sudden it quits and gets deathly quiet. The sun was setting and there was an eery glow in the western sky. We got a little rain but mostly wind. The picture on the TV was frozen for almost 2 hours so I read my library book. The other side of town was/is w/o power so Bob couldn't paint at the church today. Not sure if we will head up to Ian's game or not. It's cloudy and thunderstorms are predicted for here later. It is very very humid outside, but no sunshine -- weird weather!
Susan -- You were wise to do your chores yesterday so you could 'play' today. I'm so glad you like your swimsuit and it fits! I would have a hard time passing up having lunch out vs making one to take along. I guess I fixed my lunch, for school, for too long. Good for you!
Maggie -- It has certainly been hot in your neighborhood! You will regain your FOCUS and take care of the small gain in no time. I've been playing with the same 2#s for weeks and it's making me at myself. I know you will enjoy the movie site you found to record the CDs from. Bob enjoys the old cowboy movies too. How exciting to meet John Wayne! I don't know how many times Bob's watched Paint Your Wagon; we saw that when we lived in Minneapolis back in the early 70s. My favorite is still Pretty Woman. Maybe I will buy it someday.
"Gma" -- on being down a half pound . . . every ounce counts you know! You are right . . . we did buy an Enclave! For whatever reason Bob called it an Encore from day 1, and now I do it too. T doesn't look overly excited about his first day of school. I remember as Beth and Jason got older they really didn't like having their picture taken on the first day, but I did it anyway.
I have another load of laundry to do so better get a move on. Enjoy the rest of your day!
JEAN having lived so many years in CA I met lots of movie stars. Some lived in the same small town we did so we ran in to some daily. Those fierce quick storms can sure tear up the landscape. I remember in SD when we had what was called a micro burst it did burst the windows out of the cars in the new car lot on the side of town. It also took the windows of the show room out. They had quite a sale on those cars that year.
Applique was so much fun today. We got there about 10 and didn't leave until after 5. I did take my lunch and felt really good about that. With only 18 points, you can't eat out too often!
Faye, I don't blame Thomas for not being enthusiastic. It's too hot to have to go to school! Congratulations on the half pound. It all adds up.
Jean, I'm having dinner out tomorrow night and lunch and Friday. Enough for one week. That was nice of you to pick up the stuff for your neighbor, too.
Maggie, you are determined and focused so you will be successful. We are all human and have a little setback from time to time. It's what you do after it that is important.
Tomorrow I'm going to water aerobics at 6 am, then work, then dinner, and finally quilt guild. A long busy day but fun!
Good morning to you all! I have set up my meals at ww online so am ready for the day. I now know why the USPS is losing money hand over fist. Besides people emailing instead of snail mail, and using UPS or FEDEX instead of regular mail, it seems like they hire idiots, at least in Memphis. I was expecting my chair umbrellas yesterday and she delivered the mail and no chairs! It kept showing it was out for delivery and I checked it this morning and it said they delivered it. GRRRRR! Well, I got to thinking that stupid as it was, I would look out front and sure enough there it sat in front of the storm door. It was delivered at 2:20 yesterday so it was delivered by the mail lady and NOT by another stuck as that is when she came through and delivered the regular mail. Why she delivered out front I'll never know but in this neighborhood we are lucky it was still there. We do have two large bushes on each side of the walk so they may not have noticed it. I do think they will work really well on our chairs. They are a nice size.
Jean: Glad you guys came out of the storm ok. We had major thunder roll through here and a few drops, but that was it. Jack says it isn't possible, but I swear this excess heat keeps it from raining. I know when I lived in New Mexico in the summer heat it would cloud up like it was going to rain every evening than nothing. Kelly says he was sleepy because he had to get used to getting up before 8 am every morning again. He loves school so I am sure once he is up and going he is fine.
Susan: Hope you had fun at water aerobics. I always loved my classes. I took them from several places when we lived in Indiana and enjoyed each instructor. I fixed the baked shrimp in lemon garlic sauce and Jack enjoyed it very much, me not so much. I am not a big fan of lemon on seafood, never have been and I thought the taste of the sauce was very flat, but the shrimp were ok. I paired it with rice and a garden salad. It didn't help that the shrimp were supposed to be deveined, but when I took them out most of them weren't so I had to sit and do that, UGH! They are a lot less expensive that way though.
Maggie: Hang in there and just put one foot in front of the other each day, that's all you can do. We are imperfect human beings so we do the best we can each day.
Jack's got to take a sick day on Friday so he can get all his bloodwork done for his cardiologist. He was supposed to do it last week after his appt, but they were all out to lunch and we didn't want to wait. I changed Fortune's grooming appt to Friday and we are going to do the downstairs rugs on Friday because I haven't gotten to them yet.
Well gals, time for breakfast. You all have a great day! Faye
Good Afternoon, Flowers! I've been to the bank to order new checks; this is the first time I have ever used the last check w/o reordering a new batch first, and I still can't believe I did that. I use my debit card so much that I guess I wasn't paying attention to the amount of checks left. I even had the reorder form in my checkbook! Also stopped at the library to return and get new books. It is across the street from the courthouse and usually parking spots are nonexistent -- today I had my choice. It is warming up outside so think I am home for the rest of the day.
Maggie -- I hope you are enjoying a cooler day today. The wind was strong enough to blow over camper(s) on the opposite side of the lake from us. There are huge branches down and even a few trees blown over around town. We were more lucky than I realized.
Susan -- You're having a busy day today! If each point is approximately 50 calories, 18 pts. would be about 900 calories for the day, right? That's not very much fuel to keep a body going. I just read, in a health magazine, that 1400 - 2000 calories was ideal intake assuming a person was somewhat active while taking height and body structure into consideration. Have fun at guild tonight.
"Gma" -- I'm glad your umbrellas were safe and sound by your door. I know that Lands End has been sending my stuff by USPS rather than UPS lately. The couple things I ordered for Maddy's birthday came by USPS -- one charged more for shipping than the item itself cost.
I need to do some ironing so better get a move on. Have a terrific Tuesday today!
Good morning to you all! Boy, this is sounding like a broken record, but it is hot again today. I saw the temp at 5 pm and it was 100 degrees here. I like the heat more than the cold, but this is rediculous. If we cooled down to 85 we would think it was a cold snap! lol
Jean: My Land's End is coming ground UPS so it takes longer. I am hoping either today or tomorrow it will be here. My LL Bean should be here tomorrow, maybe Friday and my bras have been mailed so probably Christmas... I guess it depends on what you are ordering, how big or whatever as to how they send it. Who knows anymore? I just know that it seems like the postal service has really bottomed out in recent years and their customer service is the worst it has ever been. I have more trouble with postal issues here in Memphis than I have in all the years since I got married. It is like they hire the laziest people they can.
Do any of you ladies have a regular cole slaw recipe that is made with the vinegar, sugar, water mixture instead of mayo? My mom used to make slaw that way and I would love to have the recipe back. I have looked all over and can't find one. Seems like no one eats it that way. I know Maggie has to have one, she has something for all occasions!
I see it is already 7 so I guess I better get going, get chores done, breakfast and some cleaning done today. I also have laundry. I told Jack last night I do not know how a house gets dirty with just two people living in it. I hate to say it, but I think one of them being a man has something to do with it. My house is never cluttered because I have drilled it into him to " pick up, pick up" but he will ick up my floors with his shoes when he comes in and stuff like that. I seem to always be behind him wiping up something. Ahh well, I wouldn't want to live without him so I am glad to clean it up!
Good Morning, Flowers! It is going to be another hot humid day in my corner of the world. I have my lunch bunch at noon and we are heading to Sioux Falls for Ian's last game later. I hope it doesn't get rained out this time. Bob is trying to find 2 guys to go fishing at the last minute; Amanda's dad and brother decided not to go because of her Grandpa being in the hospital. The problem is that not everyone has a passport. I should make a WM run but may put that off for a couple days.
"Gma" -- I don't make coleslaw. If I really really want some, we drive to a nearby town to buy it at KFC. Our local KFC was bought by Mexicans and they don't use the original recipes for anything. I know what you mean about the house getting dirty with just 2 people living there. Bob has tennis shoes with a huge tread bottom; I always find tiny rocks or mud clumps after he's been out in the yard. I have to admit that I am the "pile it" person living here. I'm with you though -- I wouldn't want to live without him, and he puts up with me!
I need to get dressed and clear off the counter . . . again. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
Yeppers it is gonna be another hot one today ~ but there is no where I have to go outside. I would absolutely wilt taking the short walk out to the truck I do declare. Our young man that we let stay here for awhile came yesterday and got the rest of his things. Since the candidate won that he was working for he is being considered to to to DC with him to work. While he is still in the state he said he will see us each Sunday though. Ragg Mopp was overjoyed to see him once again. My order of two tags came today and I made explicit instructions which are in the envelope so let's see if that dummy can get it right this time. I also included a copy of the bill for them which includes shipping.

JEAN Have fun with your lunch bunch. I sure hope that Bob can find some men that can go with him for I know from your telling that he loves this excursion each year.
Good afternoon, ladies! The usual 100 degrees and humid.
I went to the Y this morning and did my strength training, walked 15 minutes on the treadmill and did 15 minutes on the exercise bike. I feel great! The trainer recommended protein within an hour of working out so I went to Walmart for whey protein powder. Jillian Michael's was the least expensive one they had ($10 for a big jar) so I got French Vanilla and Triple Chocolate. It has 100 calories and 3g of fiber (20 grams of protein) when made with water. I put it in my rocket blender with 5 ice cubes and could not believe how good it was. It came out thick and creamy and tasted very good.
Faye, I never did get Stan trained to pick up after himself right away, but eventually he would get around to it if I didn't do it. I'd love to be doing it now. I found a recipe in my PA Duth cookbook for that kind of coleslaw. It sounds like what I do, but I don't measure anything.
CABBAGE SLAW
Large head of cabbage, shredded
1/4 cup of sugar (or Splenda)
2/3 cup cider vinegar
1 t. celery seed
1/2 t. mustard seed
1 cup water
Mix everything but the cabbage together, pour over cabbage and toss. Refrigerate several hours before serving. Will keep in refrigerator for a week.
Jean, 18 points is closer to 1300-1400 calories. You have to add in the 0-point foods and a point can be from 50-100 calories depending on fat and fiber. I track my points and also my calories and I'm always over 1300. And I do use some of my WPAs.
Maggie, Thanks for the recipes!
Stay cool and hydrated and have a great day!

Will brought home a Hormel spiral cut ham when he went to the market. After we had lunch I proceeded to tear it all apart and bag it in serving sizes to put in the freezer. I love having one done that way so if we have company I can easily thaw enough to serve but there is usualy just the two of us so the small packages are great. It made nice packages of pretty sliced ham. BTW I had a taste and it is not at all salty. Horrah I am going to make a nice pot of beans with that hambone in it later on this week sometime and get it portioned out and in the freezer. Come winter time I will be glad I did.
SUSAN Thanks for your recipe. I copied it and now have it saved with my other ones. Sounds like you had a good workout this day. You go girlfriend you are doing great.
