Got this banana information from another thread, thought it was interesting...
Bananas

A professor at CCNY for a physiological psych class told his class about bananas. He said
the expression 'going bananas' is from the effects of bananas on the brain.
Read on:

Never, put your banana in the refrigerator!!!

This is interesting.

After reading this, you'll never look at a banana in the same way again.

Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined
with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.

Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a
strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit
with the world's leading athletes.

But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help
overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making
it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND
amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better
after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan,
a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to
make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains
regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of
hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in
potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure.
So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed
the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to
reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school
(England) were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas
at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power.
Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist
learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help
restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without
resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to
make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms

the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood
sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body,
so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.
Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps
to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try
rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people
find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

Overweight and at work?
Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads
to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital
patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in
high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food
cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high
carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal
disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only
raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases.
It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the
lining of the stomach.

Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a
'cooling' fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temp
of expectant mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat
bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help
SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer
tryptophan.

Smoking &Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help people trying
to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium
and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects
of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heart
beat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance.
When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our
potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-
potassium banana snack.

Strokes: According to research in The New England Journal of Medicine,
eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by
strokes by as much as 40%!

Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want
to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart,
with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster
or surgical tape!

Hello ladies,

Just a quick post. Trying to digest all the banana info. Did't know it was that good.

Mitchellez - you plant cucumbers & squash in pots? What size pots are you using? Do you use a trellis? Might have to give you a call on this one.
With the price of food, i'm thinking of planting a few more items this year.
So far my list is tomatoes, (grape, cherry, roma), bell peppers, and jalopenoes. ( I don't like bell or jal, but i grow for mom and dad)

will post more later...

annie175 03-05-2009 01:55 PM

Patty....

I plant Roma tomatos for salsa making. THen a good beefstake tomato for munching. I also plant bell peppers, jalopenos, cucumbers, pumpkin, and maybe spinach this year. I am liking spinach as my salad staple rather than any lettuce. Oh and I plant basil. I love fresh basil. I put the basil in a pot on the patio table then leave the slider open and man does it smell good.

diyana 03-05-2009 05:08 PM

Hi ladies -

The rest did me good. And after work today, I'm going to the gym for cardio and strength training, then on to pet sitting for an hour. My PT says that most of my problem is due to the fact that I have an exaggerated sway in my lower back. :( She gave me some new exercises to strength the muscles to try and pull my spine into proper position. I think this might be a long haul - my PT calls it a crock pot type fix...rather than a microwave type fix....in other words, slow and steady. Unfortunately, patience isn't my strong suit. She suggested I go see a doc again, but my back specialist has left the "network" that my insurance covers...so I've got an appt with a Sports Medicine doc on 3/18 and an appt. with a really good orthopedic doc on 4/2.

Shad - I hope you've been able to conquer Mt. Stationery and Mt. Technology!

Annie - have a great time in St. Louis! Thanks for the great banana info!

Happy - Good for your DH for helping Mr. Feral defend his turf. Congrats on your wedding anniversary! 32 years is a long time! Good for you (both)! You cracked me up about unharnessing the girls and them doing the typing!

Rose - I'm sorry you had to cancel your trip. That's too bad. Hopefully you can go another time when the weather is more cooperative. Sounds like you have A LOT of fun things planned! You go, girl!

Patty - Yes, I grow cukes and squash in pots. I grow them vertically supported by tomato cages. I use the biggest pots I can find (that are about one size down from whisky 1/2 barrels).

Mel - Glad you had a great time at TJ's! So nice of Willy to help you out so much!

Ceejay - I hope things are going well for you! And that you're relaxing whenever possible.

Well, it's just about time to head home (and to the gym) for the day.

Have a great evening ladies.

Love and hugs,

ceejay52 03-05-2009 05:52 PM

I'm on the last day at work. I would do a happy dance but to tired. The newest employee is coming along. She should be going to nights next week.

Annie
Like the tidbit on banana's. Congrats on the 6 months anniversary?
Like the picture in the avatar.

I'll tryo to do more personals tomorrow.

Shad 03-05-2009 07:34 PM

Oh Joyous Day (it's Friday and there is a public holiday on Monday)

I'm really looking forward to this weekend although it will probably be fairly chilly. I'm going to look for some warmer clothes tomorrow and then on Sunday we will go down to see the penguins. If we can find accommodation down there we will take it and stay down that way until Monday, but if not it's about a 2 hour drive home and should be fine as well. We can then go down to the other side of Port Philip Bay on Monday and see the sights down there. Life is good.

Conquering Mt Technology, but Mt Paperwork (Stationery) is looming ever larger. So many problems from one place. Still the best we can do is to look at one thing at a time and set our goals to do the best we can for one wind farm at a time. Slow but steady - crock pot stuff as Michelle would say.

My niece (the pregnant one) rang me to see if we could sort a date for her baby shower but I won't be home. I've said I will be there for Easter so maybe we will just have to have a private shower come Easter. Having said that, I had better go check the flight times for Easter since it will be a busy time for the airlines.

Happy - one boarder at a time at your place huh?? Fair enough. Haven't you got enough azaleas for the entire neighbourhood of cats? Why do they both have to try to sleep under the same one??

Annie - thanks for the banana issue. I always knew there was a sound reason why I liked bananas. But I can see now if I eat too many of them, I might have a problem. All that sugar must go somewhere!!

Michelle - I hope to join you as the exercise queen next week. The apartment has a gym and swimming pool available in the building. I look forward (well sort of) to trying it out.

Mel - there will be no drinking on St Paddys day unless you lose 10lbs before then! Understood?? Capisce?? Hope the government gets back it's computer service soon. Trying calling reception and see if that has happened. You may find it has never been down!!! That happened to me once. That's how I know what to do!

Rose - sorry the holiday was cut short. I'm sure you will find something to do with yourself and Toby the wonderdog.

Everyone else - look after yourself. I've got to go. More boring meetings

annie175 03-06-2009 08:21 AM

Good Morning Good Morning....sunny and high 66 today, break out the shorts!!

MEL...Yes, that is me and the Tony. That is the night we went out to watch my brother's band. Glad Trader Joe's went so well. Lots of yummy, fresh stuff there.

Michelle...have you thought about seeing a quack-o-practer for your back? I went for my neck and shoulder and he did wonders.

Ceejay...I will do the happy dance for you. I took a major poo this morning and feel so much better.

Shad...enjoy the penguins. Hope you find accommodations, it is always fun to stay out, of course, you probably get enough of that with your job travel.

Got laundry done, scoured, ran the vacuum, and packed last night, so am all ready to head to St. Louie for the weekend. I am so looking forward to it.

Pizza Noodle Casserole

1 lb bow tie pasta, or any other pasta you like
1 lb italian sausage
1 large onion
2 jars spaghetti sauce, any flavor (plus I add 1 T sugar to the jar)
1 lb sliced pepperoni
3 8 oz bags of shredded mozzarella cheese
1 t garlic powder
1 t dried oregano
(I also added 4 cloves fresh smushed garlic)

Cook pasta in boilin water til al dente.

Cook sausage, garlic powder, oregano, fresh garlic, and onions until juices run clear...(sausage done)

Grease 9 x 13 pan (i use pam), pur small amount of sauce to lightly coat bottom.

Layer ingredients in order listed below:

1st layer...1/3 pasta, 1/3 sauce, 1 bag mozzarella cheese, sausage and onion mix.

2nd layer...1/3 pasta, 1/3 sauce, 1 bag mozzarella cheese, pepperoni (pizza style to cover)

3rd layer...all remaining pasta, then all sauce, 1 bag mozzarella cheese, all pepperoni (completely covering the entire top with pepperoni).

Bake 375 degrees for 45 minutes. I covered mine with foil for the first 30 minutes. May have to bake longer if cheese is not all melted.

Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

(on the second layer you can replace pepperoni with ham)

Hello to everyone and all have a marvelous weekend.

Love and Hugs.

diyana 03-06-2009 08:24 AM

Happy Friday ladies -

I did not make it to the gym last night. By the time I left work, I had a migraine and was feeling really nauseous too (typically goes along with migraines for me). Anyway, another night of R&R was just what I needed. I'm doing much better today. I may go to the gym tonight...or I may just do the grocery shopping and the laundry so that I'll have the rest of the weekend to have fun. We're going to the Sports Show tomorrow, where there will be exhibitors on fishing, camping, kayaking, and reps of camping and cabin resorts from across the midwest and Canada. There will also be a lumberjack competition demonstration, which is always fun to watch. A retriever dog training demo. And a demo from the local Dog Training club. We have a great time every year when we go to the Sports Show.

Ceejay - I'm hope today you'll be able to rest and relax! I'm glad the new employee is working out well.

Shad - How lucky you are to have a LONG weekend! :woohoo: Sounds like you have a great weekend planned. I wish I could go with you to watch the penguins! How nice that your apartment building has a gym and a pool! That's great!

A big  to everyone! I hope you all have a Fabulous Friday and a great weekend too!

Love and hugs,

diyana 03-06-2009 08:26 AM

Annie - we posted at about the same time! Have a wonderful time in St. Louis! I've thought about going to a chiro, but am going to wait and see what the Orthopedist says. The pizza noodle casserole sounds so yummy! Thanks for sharing the recipe!

 WHERE ARE ALL OUR MISSING CHICKS?

annie175 03-06-2009 12:11 PM

Oh yeah, I forgot to add that I got in 12,284 steps yesterday. We walked at lunch today and so far I have in 7653 steps. It was so nice walking outside today. It has been a long time coming. However very windy, it is very warm outside. The sun has dissappeared, but still warm. I will take it.

ceejay52 03-06-2009 12:27 PM

Annie
good for you in getting in your walk. I'm so ready for warmer temperatures.

Mel
I'm with you, where is the rest of the worldly chicks.

Michelle
Enjoy your week end.

Shad
lucky you in getting a holiday on Monday. Enjoy the trip.

ceejay52 03-06-2009 12:29 PM

Forgot to mention that I'm off the next couple of day. Still to tired to do a happy dance.

Shad 03-06-2009 11:01 PM

No time for long post today. I've been into town and checked out the apartment and figured out a path to get to work from it. It will be a lot of walking exercise unless I can find a shorter way to get around.
I've picked up some new clothes to keep me going for the week until I can get some more from home.
We have found a Begonia festival in Ballarat and intend to go to that tomorrow instead of the penguins and then hop up to Euchuca and check out the paddleboats on the Murray River. I've been there before but it is worth a second trip. The penguins will still be there in later weeks. They've been there for 100 years already so I don't think they will disappear over night.

Every one seems busy for the weekend. I'll check in again tomorrow and on Monday. Have a good one.

Good morning,

:bday2you: Mel. Glad you liked the cake - it's super low in calories so you can have 2 pieces  I know what you mean about the years flying by. And they go faster and faster. Hope you have a great weekend.

I hate that we lose an hour this weekend. :( It's supposed to be super warm here. I have all the windows open. With the warmth comes the thunderstorms. I still want to wash the car today and get all the bird poop off. Then it's tackling the house work.

I'm making a pledge to myself to stay off the computer and focus on the house this weekend.

Hope you all have a great weekend too.

I did owe you a recipe

Kinda Like - Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki Sauce

Serve on sandwiches or as a salad dressing with vegetable garnish of your choice and the cooked deli style chopped chicken breast strips. Recipe makes 10 tablespoons each at 1 WW point. This is really sticky so be careful if you spill it. Stores well in the refrigerator. This recipe is a bit less sweet than it's famous sandwich shop counterpart and has more of the sweet / tang of the sugar and vinegars - you can always add more brown sugar or a bit of honey if you like it very sweet. It covers the greens well so you really don't need that much and 1 tablespoon does goe a long way.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 tablespoon minced / finely diced fresh red onion (white will do but red is milder and more on the sweet side)
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
2 teaspoons white distilled vinegar
1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon brown sugar or honey
1 teaspoon dry buttermilk powder
1/4 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
1/8 teaspoon poppy seeds
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 pinch cracked black pepper
1 pinch garlic powder

Directions:
1. Combine all ingredients in a small microwave safe bowl or 2 cup glass measuring cup. Stir well.
2. Heat mixture uncovered in the microwave for 1 to 1-1/2 minutes on high until mixture boils rapidly. Watch as this cooks because it will begin to foam up and can boil over which will make a very sticky mess. I cooked it for 30 seconds. Stirred. Cooked for 30 seconds again and stirred. I let it sit for a minute and then stirred again and cooked it the last 30 seconds. The mixture will thin out quite a bit after cooking and doubles in volume.
3. Whisk well and let cool off. Store the remainder in a container with a tight fitting lid (as you don't want this accidently spilling) in the refrigerator. It keeps well, if it gets old the sugars will start to crystalize.

I measured out 10 equal tablespoons from the recipe if made as indicated above. Came out to 1 WW point per tablespoon as calculated from the WW recipe builder.

Dried buttermilk powder is in the baking aisle near the powdered and condensed milk. I passed it by 3 times before I found it.

The ingredients can get a bit pricey so either find some friends who like this and share the cost or find a friend who likes to cook and has all these vinegars on hand. The most expensive item was the buttermilk powder.

Enjoy! :hungry:

MELODY525 03-08-2009 08:57 AM

:balloons: THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR THE GOOD WISHES. I HAD A GREAT DAY. JEN AND RICHIE WERE HERE AND WE HAD A SMALL CELEBRATION. THEY'RE COMING DOWN TODAY. I GOT THE MOST WONDERFUL EDIBLE FRUIT BASKET FROM A CLOSE FRIEND AND WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A DIPPING FIESTA AND DVD DAY!

Good morning ladies,

We were supposed to get storms overnight but they must have blown past us. Still a chance today. It's gray and cloudy out. I'm already feeling the loss of that precious hour of time from daylight savings. I did stay up late last night/this morning as I have always wondered about the digital clocks on the time change. Sure enough, it went from 1:59 to 3:00 am. Now I know for sure. And my experiment made me tired this morning.

I worked outside cleaning up in the yard with DH yesterday. It was nice to be outside. Still have all that inside stuff to do today and I also have some errands to run. It's not getting done sitting here so hello and enjoy your Sunday.

ceejay52 03-08-2009 01:13 PM

happy
know how you feel this morning. 5.30 sure di come quick. Thanks for the recipe.

Mel
Enjoy your day.

We mised those storms also. There is still a few below us an hope they stay there. I'm glad to be by myself today at work even though the wind does sound like it's going to take the roof off.

For some reason it stinks in the contol room today. and more supplies left this week end. hmmmm wonder where they are going.

diyana 03-08-2009 04:03 PM

Happy Sunday ladies -

I like Daylight Savings Time because of how nice it is to have the extra hour of daylight after work. I needed extra sleep today too. And I'm still tired. It's just a lazy, rainy, stay inside kind of Sunday here. I had to go into work for a few hours yesterday morning, then we went to the Sports Show - where we had a really fun time! Today, I went grocery shopping, and now I'm doing laundry and cooking (make and freeze meals). I'm running out of energy and just want to relax....luckily, I've got a pot roast in the crock pot for dinner tonight (and DH will do dishes - yay!).

I guess it's getting colder because the rain sounds like it's turning to sleet or hail. We're supposed to get 2-4" of snow tonight....hopefully it will be closer to 2" or less and hopefully the roads won't be slick in the morning. I'm so tired of snow and cold. Mother Nature teased us last week with temps in the 50s and 60s. She's getting a good laugh today as she reminds us that winter's not over yet.

Mel - So glad you had a nice birthday.

Happy - Thanks for the recipe. I hope the storms aren't too bad.

Ceejay - I hope work is going well for you!

A big  to everyone. I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!

Love and hugs,

MELODY525 03-09-2009 08:24 AM

:rain: I THINK THE SOUTHERN STORMS ARE UPON US AND STAYING HERE. POOR CONSTRUCTION MEN ARE WORKING IN THE RAIN AND MAKING LOTS OF NOISE. GOOD THING CAUSE I WAS GOING TO SLEEP RIGHT THRU MONDAY! NOTHING NEW AND I NEED TO MAKE SOME INCIDENT REPORTS. SENIORS TOOK TO FALLING ON THE FLOOR OVER THE WEEKEND. BUT NOTHING TOO SERIOUS...MAINLY BLOODY NOSES AND SMALL CUTS.
I BEST GET DRESSED BEFORE I FALL ASLEEP SITTING HERE. FOOD SHOP TOMORROW SO I'LL SEE YOU AT NIGHT.
HAPPY MONDAY :moped:

HAPPY~ I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT YOU STAYED UP TO WATCH THE CLOCKS!! :lol3:  :lol3:

JEANETTE~ ARE THE DESTRUCTO WINDS GONE NOW? I THINK I FOUND THEM!!

MICHELLE~ SNOW??? YIKES!!! REMINDERS OF MONTHS THAT HAVE PAST :wreath: STAY WARM!! GLAD THE SHOW WAS A NICE TIME. GOOD TO RELAX.

annie175 03-09-2009 09:35 AM

Good Morning Worldlies............

The weekend was fantastic. We had a marvelous time in St. Louie... Little Ms. Olivia is so sweet and smiles all the time. Ate at a great BBQ place. Bandana's BBQ. Yummy!

Blew a tire on the way home. Thank God Tony was driving at the time, altho I must say it blew because he hit a basement of a pothole on I70.. He felt really badly about it. I told him not to worry, we were all safe and stopped fairly quickly. Between Samantha's Chris and Tony they had the tire changed in about 8 minutes. They looked like a pit crew at a Nascar race. I stood back on the shoulder and cussed at the truckers that wouldn't get over in the other lane. Needless to say, I had to add $$ to the cuss bucket.

Shu weee, I am still tired from the weekend and could of stayed in bed. I didn't roll out till 6 this morning and had to hustle to get ready and to work on time. I am usually up by 5. Let's see lost an hour in St. Louis as they are an hour behind in Indiana, lost an hour due to the clock set back change, and lost an hour this morning. Guess I am 3 hours behind in sleep. lol.

Hello to all.

Love and hugs

Good morning to yahs,

Had a terrible sleep last night. It was freakin' 78 degrees for a high yesterday. Although that would be sweater weather for Miss Shad, it's kinda warm for this chick, particularly at night. I changed the clock last night to set the alarm earlier but forgot to actually turn on on the alarm. Woke up this morning in pitch black night - good thing I woke up on my own because I had to get out early for a doctor's appointment this morning. It was my annual physical. No orafice was left unchecked :o tho many of them protested  I guess I am ok. So far. I told the doctor that my chest tightens up when I try and sprint or walk fast and hard. She wants me to see a cardiologist probably due to the fact that there are horrid heart issues on both sides of the family. They were nice enough to make an appointment for me, but they made it for Wednesday when I have to take DH for his cataract surgery. Other than than nothing's up. Weekend flew by. The waxwing birds were flocking all over the berry bushes. Must have been at least 30 of them. Back and forth up and down the driveway. I went out yesterday to go to the grocery store and the stinkers dive bombed my car totally. It was slightly less than a metal version of a guano pile. Very ewwwwwwww. I didn't have time to wash the car first, was quite embarrased to be driving it around town. Also had to drive it to the doctor's this way but will get it cleaned up this afternoon.

Yikes on the tire Annie - good thing you were safe and sound. Those potholes are horrible. We even have them here. Thanks for the banana info but why aren't you supposed to put bananas in the refrigerator?

Mel, I didn't really intend to stay up that late but I was up until 1:30 and figured I was this close, I might as well stay up 30 more minutes. Besides, I knew you wanted to know just as much as me  Sorry to hear the seniors spent the weekend "kissing the floor". Will send you some Sesame Street bandaids to make them feel better.

Michelle - was always the worst this time of year to get teased with warm weather and then the cold decends again. Same here. It's unusually warm now but a cold front is coming and it will cool off tomorrow. It's nice enough now that you want to start planting but you have to remember, this is the teaser stuff and it can still get cold enough to freeze yet so we have to hold off. Make ahead and freeze is the best way to go, even if it seems like you waste a whole precious weekend day just cooking.

Ceejay - did you find the source of the bad smell at work? Sure was breezy around here...

Break's over, time to get back to work. Later chicks.

I HAD TO COME BACK......I FINALLY GOT THE OTHER GOVT AGENCY AND I JUST MAILED OUT A PAPER THEY SAID I DIDN'T SEND! BUT I CANNOT ARGUE WITH THEM. THE SAD THING IS THAT I TRUSTED SOMEONE IN OUR OWN OFFICE TO PUT A LETTER IN MY ENVELOPE AND SEND THE PACKAGE OUT. VERY EXPENSIVE LESSON IN "TRUST".... $625 WORTH!
NOW ALL I HAVE ARE THE 2 PHONE INTERVIEWS FOR SOCIAL SECURITY ON THE 16 & THE 23!! YAY!!! I FEEL CALMER ALREADY. MY DUCKS ARE LINED UP IN A ROW ONCE AGAIN.
JEN JUST FINISHED HER INTERVIEW ON FRIDAY AND WE FAXED OUT HER PAPERS TODAY. NOW WE WAIT TO SEE IF ANYONE CAN THINK UP SOME MORE STUPID AND USUALLY UNNECESSARY QUESTIONS!! :tantrum:

ANNIE~ GLAD YOU ALL HAD A GOOD TIME AND SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THE TIRE. THANK GOD ALL ARE SAFE AND SOUND AND HOME!!! IF I HAD A CUSS BUCKET IT WOULD BE EFFING OVERFLOWING!!! I DON'T MAKE ENOUGH MONEY FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR TO COVER THAT EXPENSE!:lol3: :lol3: i HOPE YOU ENJOYED MY BD DRINKS

HAPPY~ I WILL SEND GOOD THOUGHTS TO THE DH FOR HIS SURGERY. GOOD LUCK!! AND NOW SOME GOOD THOUGHTS FOR YOUR "BREATHING". HOPE ALL WILL GOW WELL WITH THE TESTS. THE BIRDS ALWAYS SEEM TO HAVE SUCH GREAT AIM!! WHY IS THAT?? DO THEY ALL GO TO DIVE BOMBER SCHOOL AND LEARN ABOUT TARGETS?? WTF!!! HAPPY CAR WASHING!

Happy Monday ladies -

I'm tired. Still not adjusted to DST, I guess. I had to be at work at 6 am today....but the good news is I get to leave in a couple hours! Yay! Then I'll be going to the gym and coming home to cook dinner for me and DH (leftover pot roast from yesterday). We got a lot of rain over the weekend, and around 2 pm yesterday, it turned to a wet snow. Luckily we only got a couple of inches, and the roads weren't too bad at all today.

Mel - Sorry to hear about all the seniors falling over the weekend. I'm glad there were no serious injuries. We're supposed to be having big time winds tomorrow night. Time to batten down the hatches! That sucks that you had to endure that very expensive lesson in trust, but I'm glad your ducks are in a row (for you and Jen) again!! As for an overflowing cuss bucket, I've got one too.

Annie - I'm so glad you had a nice time in St. Louis and with Ms. Olivia! How scary to blow a tire! Phew that you all got through it safe and sound! Good that they got the tire changed so quickly (too funny about looking like a pit crew!!). So since your 3 hours behind in sleep, are you gonna relax this evening??

Happy - 78 degrees?? I'm so jealous! I'd be happy with temps consistently in the 50s at this point. And yes, while I am eagerly anticipating spring...I know the warm weather is just a teaser and Mom Nature has more in store for us for at least a few more weeks. I'm glad your physical went okay. Sorry the birds turned your car into a guano pile. I don't mind spending a few hours on the weekend cooking....if it means that during the week I don't have to cook at all, and I can go to the gym or relax or whatever! :) Sending :goodvibes: and good thoughts to DH for his surgery. I hope your cardio appt goes well.

Shad - I hope you had a fun weekend and got to see lots of penguins!

A big  to all!

Love and hugs,

Chicken With Mushrooms and Green Beans

Makes 4 servings

Hands-on Time: 0hr 20m

Total Time: 1hr 20m

Ingredients

1 3 1/2- to 4-pound chicken, cut into pieces
3/4 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 1/4 teaspoons kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped, plus 12 whole cloves, unpeeled
1 small navel orange, halved
3/4 pound green beans, trimmed
1 10-ounce package button mushrooms, caps quartered
Directions

1. Heat oven to 400° F.

2. Rinse the chicken and pat dry with paper towels. Place in a roasting pan.

3. In a small bowl, combine the thyme, red pepper, 3/4 teaspoon of the salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of the black pepper.

4. Brush the chicken with 1 1/2 tablespoons of the oil and sprinkle with the chopped garlic and spice mixture. Arrange the whole garlic cloves and orange halves around the chicken. Roast until the chicken is cooked through, 35 to 40 minutes.

5. Meanwhile, place the green beans and mushrooms on a baking sheet. Drizzle with the remaining oil and season with the remaining salt and pepper. Roast until the mushrooms are cooked through and the beans are lightly browned, stirring once, about 15 minutes.

6. Divide the chicken and garlic among individual plates and squeeze the roasted orange halves over the top. Serve with the green beans and mushrooms.

Tip: You can use this recipe to roast a whole chicken―just leave it in the oven for at least 20 minutes longer.
