Good morning to you all! Today is Jack's birthday so we are meeting Kelly and family at Olive Garden for his birthday dinner. Since I bought his birthday presents early for him, I just got him a card and a package of white chocolate Lindt chocolate balls. He loves white chocolate and doesn't get it very often so I thought he should be treated on his birthday.
Susan: So glad you had a nice birthday and nice plans for the weekend. I take Zantac for any heartburn flair ups. Do you have things that always give you heartburn? I always get heartburn when I eat jelly or jam of all things, tomato based products almost always do it, like pizza, spaghetti, lasagna and such. I rarely if ever get heartburn from very spicy foods though like things with jalepenos on it or stuff like that. I have Prilosec upstairs that I probably should start on as I hear it works pretty well.
Jean: Oh, it will be so much fun to have all your kids together this weekend. I am sure you will enjoy it even though the little ones will poop you out. They can celebrate your birthday with you if they are still there on Monday. I can knit by feel but I have to go slowly so I would say I knit looking at it. I am always afraid I will slip something or split a stitch if I knit without looking. I imagine I will start the next hat today. I usually give myself a rest day between them because it will make my hands hurt eventually.
Say a prayer for my nephew and my sister. He is the one that has prescription drug problems and supposedly been sober for awhile, but he hasn't been home since last Friday and he won't answer his cell phone and when my sister texts him he won't tell her where he is. That family is under some huge pressures of late and my sister now has some serious health problems with cysts on her ovaries and they found a spot on her uterus. Worrying about him will not help. They are in deep financial trouble and my bil has taken on a second job, but he has diabetes and he will be standing on his feet constantly as he is going to be working at Penneys. He is about 50 lbs overweight which won't help either.
Well, I need to get up and going. I have lots of chores to do today. Faye
I had quilt guild this morning, then lunch with the girls. Came home for an hour then went to Curves. Then friends from NC stopped by on their way to their son's house. So a full day. Now I have to get stuff ready for my quilt class tomorrow.
Faye, I have a list of foods that give me heartburn, too - coffee, tea, soft drinks, cooked tomatoes, citrus, and chocolate. I really miss my coffee. If you have Prilosec, take it. It's a huge help. I'll pray for your sister and nephew and put them on the prayer chain at church.
I have a quilting friend in need of prayers. Two weeks ago she went shopping and started feeling sick so she set out for home. The more she drove, the sicker she became so she turned around and headed for the hospital emergency room. She got so sick she pulled off the road and started throwing up. A passing motorist saw her slumped over the steering wheel and called an ambulance. Two hours later she had emergency gall bladder surgery. Everything went well and they told her she could go home the next day. During the night she became disoriented and started throwing up again. They diagnosed pancretitis. She got worse and her kidneys shut down. They started dialysis. She got to where she couldn't breather on her own so they put her on a respirator. Then they decided they better transfer her by heliocopter to MCV hospital in Richmond. They still aren't sure what is really wrong with her. After being there she started to improve. They took her off the ventilator, stopped most of her IVs, and she talked a little. They moved her into a regular room. Her daughter gave her some water and a little applesauce. Instead of going into her stomach, it went into her lungs. Huge thing with respiratory having to pump it out. She's back on the ventilator, her kidneys have shutdown again, and her blood pressure is all over the place. They put in a feeding tube. They told her husband she'll be in the hospital for months if she doesn't die. And they still aren't sure what is causing all this. She's only 62. She has 7 children, 2 still at home but nearly grown. It's really sad.
Hi, Jean, I hope the kids didn't give you a hard time today.
Happy Friday, Flowers! The sun is shining, it's 75 degrees, and it's windy! The leaves are raining down from the trees. I need to get started on the laundry since I don't know what the schedule for tomorrow is. Jason and family will be here around 2, but I think Beth and family will be here for lunch. I do need to finish my grocery shopping. I'm just so glad it is Friday and the weekend is here!
Susan -- What little heartburn I have, I take OTC meds for.I would miss coffee although I am not a big coffee drinker. I just like it to get my day started. It sounds like you had a nice day yesterday. Today was a good day at school. I put one kid out in the hall yesterday and told him he was getting 0s every time I had to put him out there. He was pretty quiet today, for him. We had a full class for reading which is a first in a very long time. You've had a busy day today! I will keep your quilting friend in my thoughts and prayers. It is scary how fast one's health can deteriorate.
"Gma" -- to Jack! I think the kids will probably want to stay at the waterpark most of the time. Check in time is supposed to be 4pm, but the lady said to try around 2:00. When Bob called to confirm the reservations she said it wouldn't be full and they could probably get in before noon. They charge $5 if you just want to go in and watch . . . I'm hoping we can just go in for a few minutes to take some pictures w/o paying. Our tax dollars helped pay for the joint in the first place! I will keep your sister and her family in my thoughts and prayers. I can't imagine what it must be like to have an adult child addicted to drugs and not know where they are or how they are. I hope your sister and bil will be able to get through this without any major medical problems brought on by the stress. They have enough on their plate as it is. Living far away from them is hard on you too.
I'm off to start a load of laundry and head out to the grocery store. Have a great weekend!
Good morning to you all. We had a lovely time with the kids last night. Thomas was his usual Thomas. His mom said he has started the "if I say the moon is blue he swears it is red" and give facts to back it up. Her dad says it is a phase all kids go through testing their parents. He has started trying to order the most expensive thing on the menu too for some reason. Kelly puts a kabosh on it most of the time. He is too smart for his own good! lol They gave Jack some gift cards to Chilis and one to Best Buy and Thomas included a free jr frosty coupon from Wendy's that he got at his dentist's! lol Iget so tickled with him. They don't keep a lot of sweets in their house so when they go out to eat he makes the most of it. He wanted the full size gelato, which is huge and his mom said no, he could get the kids one scoop size. He whipped right through it (he had eaten salad, bread stick and about half his adult meal) and said, "See, I could have eaten a big one." The kid is stick thin and I don't know where he puts it.
Susan: Oh how horrible. I will make sure I pray for this poor lady and her family. Sound like one of those stories from "Mystery Diagnosis" on the discovery where someone gets real sick and they aren't sure why. As for my blasted nephew, he took off with friends to Las Vegas!!!! He came home Thursday night. This kid is 29 years old with no job, living on his parents who have their heads in the sand up to their navels. I mean, she says to me how thankful she was to see him "clear eyed." Like I told Jack, he could have been on a bender for 5 days then got off them the day or so before coming home and had clear eyes. On top of that, that are drowning in debt and they pay all his bills. Never once did she mention that the $500 he won in Las Vegas should be given to them for the thousands of dollars they went into debt to keep him out of prison when he lived in Florida. They had to take out a $25000 loan to pay his legal fees and bond. When I posted about them before I almost asked Jack if I could send her $500 because they are in so much money trouble until I talked to her yesterday. Sheesh, how gullible can you get? I am not about to send her money to give to him!
Jean: Is it still warm enough there to be in the water or is this all inside? Hope you have fun with the kids this weekend. Jack and I are slumming at home all weekend.
Everyone have a good one. I am going to finish chores and start on the next hat I guess.
Faye
Good Morning, Flowers! It has been a strange day for weather and it isn't even noon yet. The sky was clear when I got up and the sun looked like it would be coming up over the lake. We were having coffee and it got quite dark all of a sudden and the rain showers began. It only lasted long enough to get everything wet and then the sun came out. It's humid now -- supposed to be another 75 degree day. Beth should be rolling in soon and I decided to order pizza for lunch since no one ever seems to be on the same time table for meals. Tonight I think we will grill something; I need to decide what.
"Gma" -- I can see where Thomas would keep everyone on their toes. It's nice to see that instead of the "ho hum" attitude that some kids have. It's too cold to be outside in water. There is a huge outdoor waterpark (which closed before Labor Day when school started) connected to the hotel/indoor waterpark. There's also a big outside playground, a lighthouse ($5 if you want to climb to the top!), and a newly landscaped beach area where they had to cut down some really nice old trees. That set a lot of people against the whole project. We got state/federal money to fund this project, but it's also costing the local taxpayers too. It's been known that some people come once and then won't come back because there is nothing to do other than the waterpark and shop at WM! We are an hour away from a huge tourist attraction of two big lakes with lots of motels/hotels/condos/houses, an amusement park, fun shopping, and lots of eating places. That is where we have our cabin although we don't do the touristy stuff very often.
I have the washer, dryer, and dishwasher going; need to vacuum the fur/dust fuzzies I noticed on the stairs. I so want to have ALL carpet again!
