Good Morning Ladies.

Here its 5:54 am. I hope everyone it having a wonderful day. I for one got not so good news last night. My hubby might be deploying this weekend. I hope they give him more time to pack. It just sucks!!

Today's thought.

Thinking for yourself in the face of doubt

If you accept someone else's idea of reality and personal limits, you'll have no control over your own destiny. You can only go as far as that view will let you. Do you normally accept things as they are, or do you ask "why" and "what if"? Being an individual and thinking for yourself--even while others are calling you crazy--takes courage. For many, trying a new perspective is scary. But if we always stick to the familiar, the known, we never grow and learn. Don't be afraid to go against the grain. Ask the tough questions that everyone else is afraid to ask. Try a new way to do the same thing just to see what happens. We guarantee you that the world won't end. You'll see solutions that nobody else would see if they're all looking at a problem the same way. Practice new ways to combine unrelated objects. After all, somebody had to try peanut butter and jelly for the first time.

I will come back later.

auntie g 10-30-2008 10:24 PM

Hi all! Had some birthday cake tonight and I'm feeling a little queasy. Ugh! But yippee! It's almost Friday! That about sums up my day...

Lu, nice thought for the day! Hope your DH stays safe!

Nighty night!

2CtheREALme 10-30-2008 10:35 PM

Hey Ladies!

I'm going to do a quick check in.

I didn't make it to the gym today because it I was in line for almost 4 hours to vote so I wasn't able to get there before having to pick up my daughter. I was pretty upset about that but, I figured, I'll just go tomorrow. I'm going to beat myself up about it.

I was able to eat my dinner before 8pm today! Yahoo!! I was very excited about that. I defnitely want to make it a habit. It's really hard for me b/c my daughter is a picky eater, and I mean she doesn't eat anything that I will eat; so I find myself making 2 dinners. So, I'm going to try and have my meals planned.

Now I have to figure out when is a good time to turn off the water intake. It's pretty warm in the apartment at night and I drink a lot of water. And boy does it keep me up. I could not use that side effect.

Other than that, today was a good day as I continue to slowly make changes in my choices. I have to remind myself that it's not going to happen over night, and it may not happen in 2 weeks, but if I just stick with my healthier choices, eventually, change will come. And change is what I'm looking, hoping, and believing for.

Until next time....

paradise 10-31-2008 12:52 AM

Thank you Auntie.

Mimi: Every day won't be perfect but at least you were able to eat dinner before 8 pm. Good for you!!

1. 1 hour cardio and abs.
2. 65 ounces of water
3. Last meal 5 pm. (my husband is in duty and won't be home tonight)
4. 1,200 calories. (I had to push myself to eat. With what's going on and I don't feel hungry.)

Have a great night sleep!!

Lu

Friday's Thought of the day.

What do you take a stand for?

Courage comes in many forms. In Hollywood, courage involves evildoers and daring deeds. In real life, rescue workers, police, and the military have the courage to lie their lives on the line for someone else or a cause. Even for those of us who live life on a much smaller stage, courage is no less important. The world and the future can be scary. Fear of failure, fear of change, and fear of taking a chance can be enough to keep us in bed all day if we let them. Do you live bravely or do you often look for the easy way out? Next time you're faced with two choices, choose the bolder. As this becomes more natural, you can be sure that you'll do the right thing when called upon. Stand up for your values. Stand up for your goals. Stand.

Ladies, I hope you have a wonderful day!!

Lu

Marie 10-31-2008 12:18 PM

TGIF Everyone!!! Sorry I didn't get to post yesterday but things have been hectic. Kai Bear keeps getting/falling in the pool and the water is too cold so we're putting up another length of fence to totally block it off. Wednesday evening were bought chain link (geez, that stuff's expensive) and yesterday put in the 9 poles (with cement) before it was totally dark (had to do it after work). So now the cement is doing it's thing and tomorrow we'll start putting up the fabric. It will close off the pool some, but it will keep it cleaner (doggies like to dig around it and throw dirt in), and my beautiful grandson will always be safe as it will always be locked now. It's already enclosed by a 6 ft chain link fence, but he could go out the sliding glass door and there's the pool. So this will keep DGS and Kai safe. I ran into our vet at the hardware place and she just shook her head at the fencing and laughed about the youngest husky.

Welcom Mazza, if you're still around. I hope you are.

Mimi, take a look at your ticker - look what you've already done!!! You are doing fabulous and it is a one day at a time. I'm very proud of you for getting on the scale and making it move downward.

Auntie, I used to have one of thos round bread makers that made a tall round loaf. I would cut the bread in half vertically and then slic 9 slices from each half. Now that's not possible. I get about 12 slices out of my machine so I just do the math... I didn't have time to alter the recipe - I figured you all could. :D

Lu, Is the DH being deplyed to the sandbox? I sure hope not. My hubby is at a training base and they don't get deployed (it's an F-15 training base so they train pilots and he's the part that fixes the planes and the some of the funny boo-boos the student pilots make). When he was a Langley AFB long ago, I had fears of deployment so I do feel your worry. My thoughts are with him and you.

Penny, how awesome of the tattoo artist. Generosity in our world is mind boggling. I'm glad you're going back for the eyebrows. When I see you next (if you'd stop having medical dilemmas when I'm in your neck of the woods) I look forward to seeing the results. Of the eyebrows, of course. Not the recent tattoo. ;) I'm trying to think of a way to do a weekend in Portland, taking the amtrak up as it's dirt cheap and it's so beautiful through the Cascades. I'm thinking maybe a group of my girlfriends might like doing it. I'll see and then let you know when I'd be there so we can do coffee or breakfast (I still owe you and your DH breakfast).

Carol, did you ever have your talk with your supervisor about your 5 year plan??? Inquiring minds want to know.

Judy, I hope that two more boxes are unpacked. Did you resolve the mattress situation?

Food is on track and the scale wasn't horrible this am, especially as TOM came to visit. I really wish it would stop. Very rude guest. I've been doggie walking every day as Blizzards hips are recovering from the lack of consistent walks while my heel was so bad. My alteration on the Nikes was truly the difference as it's only throbbing now. I can live with throbbing, the knife pains were too much. Anyway, Blizzard is doing better, back off the Rimadyl and happy to walk daily.

I'm so happy weekend is in 6.5 hours!!! I really like my house. I really don't like my office. OK, I like my job and I have quite a nice office - but it's doggie-less and that's just wrong!
Marie

paradise 10-31-2008 01:56 PM

Marie:You're lucky that your husband don't have to deploy. This will be my husband 2nd deployment. Last deployment, he was able to talk almost everyday. So hopefully this time won't be different.

Good news, I weighed in this morning 141.5 lbs. Two pounds lost!! Yay!!!

I will be posting later.

Have a wonderfull Halloween ladies!!

Lu

judydc 10-31-2008 06:49 PM

Oh, it's always something...I was so happy to get my home office up and running, but I'd forgotten that my keyboard was acting strangely before I left. So now some keys won't register, which makes posting or doing any typing an annoying endeavor! I convinced Dell to replace my keyboard (it's under warranty), so this should be resolved in a few days. Re my mattress, I didn't have time to fight about it, isn't that sad? My body is adjusting to sleeping on it. Now that Linens N Things is going out of business, I'll go there when they start liquidating and buy a plushy mattress pad.

Penny, congrats on the new tattoo! I got a tat 12 or 13 years ago, and hadn't thought that they fade with time. I've been thinking of getting mine "refreshed." It very kind of your artist to give you a very special one for free!

Lu, hurray on the 2 pounds gone :carrot:.

Mi Mi, I have to stop drinking water by 9 PM. But it's hard for me to have an early dinner! I know you're supposed to, but I rarely get home before 7:30 during the week. When I was self-employed it was great to have a late, filling b'fast, a light lunch, a substantial but early dinner, and then work out in front of the tube. I lost a lot of weight in those days, despite a heavier travel schedule than I have now.

Marie, I'm glad your foot, and Blizzie's hips, are feeling better. And that nobody's falling into the pool this weekend. I've gotten a lot of unpacking done. Now I have to decide to either invest in shelves, containers, etc., keep some things packed and out of sight, or get rid of more things. You'll appreciate this: I'm testing VOIP, with a Magic Jack instead of a landline at home.

Hey, there, Auntie, Carol and Mazza! It's nice to have so much activity on our little thread :)

I am doing well with eating, and have better control of the night snacking. I haven't worked out much this week, though. I've been exhausted mornings and evenings--long, long days at work, then up late catching up on the election news and laughing my head off with Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. If I don't force myself to get to bed before 11, I can't get up and moving at 6 AM, which I have to do if I plan to exercise. The time change this weekend will give me a big lift for the first few mornings--I can't hardly wait! Saturday's the day I promised to step back on the scale...talk about a fright-fest :eek:then I will set my T'giving and year-end goals.

mazza 10-31-2008 08:29 PM

Hey, everyone - thanks for all the warm welcomes!

I've just come back from a spin class and I'm fresh from a shower. The saturday morning spin teacher at my gym is crazy!! But I like it :D

Yesterday was the hottest day in Australia in 18 months. A real scorcher - and windy, too. Today is a big change and right now it's pretty cool.

Heya, Judy - did you ever regret getting a tattoo? I'm just asking because there has been much talk about tattoos on the forums lately and I've been thinking whether or not a large % of people wish they hadn't gotten them.

Marie - good to hear food is on track. I'm guessing Blizzard is one of your huskies?

Paradise - congrats on the 2lbs!

Marie 10-31-2008 08:45 PM

It's Weekend!!!

I'm happily sitting in my house, enjoying the company of my huskies. (Mazza, yes Blizzard is my eldest - she'll be 8 in December. Kodiak is 6.5 yrs and Kai Pixie Bear is almost 8 months). I'm so happy work is done for the week. It's terrible, I thought of taking Monday off then realized how miserable it was to catch up after taking 2 days off and decided it wasn't worth it. How pathetic is that.

Judy, VOiP - wow, you are a trend setter!!! Organization is good. Personally I throw away lots because I'll never find it if I stash it away. Good luck on the weigh in.

Mazza, so you're coming into summer. I envy you. It was howling winds today and it really dawned on my winter is coming. Eeks. But once there's snow in the mountains (it can skip the basin where I live), I'll be back on my skis and filling my need for speed. I watched )for about 2 minutes) a spin class about a decade ago and thought it looked like torture. Horrible torture. If you like it, I'm glad it's you not me. :D

Lu, I've always been thankful my DH doesn't deploy. He does go on TDYs and has gone throughout the world. But nowhere majorly dangerous. I hope your DH will be able to stay in contact often. When does he go?

Now, time to enjoy the evening.
Marie

PS = Mazza, my website has pictures of my doggies, but not many as I'm too lazy to work on the website (I'm webmaster for a school district and I do enough there). www.mariesdogs.com

penpal 10-31-2008 08:47 PM

Well, I decided not to get the eyebrow tats! I did some internet research and found that a lot of people paid mucho dollars to get rid of theirs with laser treatments! I've seen some great 'before and after' pics, but apparently they can fade and change color over time, so I figured it's not worth it for something permanently on my face.

Mazza - Good for you spinning the pounds off! :ebike: I'm an Aussie (and a Brit too) plus I'm in the process of getting my US citizenship. My test is on December 2nd.

Judy - Good to hear all your news and that you're finally getting settled into your new pad after all your traveling.

Lu - Congrats on the loss! :carrot: Way to go!

Marie - That would be great if we can get together again on one of your trips north! I hope Blizzie's hips soon get better - I can empathize. My hip plays up when I miss my exercise routine.

Auntie G - I hope you've recovered from the B'day cake! :p

Lu - I'll keep your DH in my prayers during his deployment - give him my thanks for his service. I hope he'll be able to keep in touch with you regularly.

Mi Mi - It's hard to resist eating when you have to stay up studying, but you CAN do it! Maybe you can "save" some calories from earlier in the day. I find keeping a food log really helps.

Carol - I hope everything is going great!

Happy Halloween Everybody! :witch: :bat: :sklol:

auntie g 10-31-2008 11:24 PM

Happy Halloween! I am glad it's over! No need to continue having evil chocolate thoughts! This has been a strange bloaty kind of week, so I don't have a lot of hope for tomorrow's weigh-in, but at least I believe it's temporary. And now there are 3-1/2 nice clean weeks ahead of us before Thanksgiving :o...

Mi Mi, you already voted yesterday? I guess I haven't paid any attention to those kinds of details. I am anxiously awaiting Tuesday for it to be done with! (Although it never goes away in my house, cause DH is all up in it :frypan:) Good luck with the double meal deal. I think that's where having a bunch of healthy stuff set aside in the freezer could help! And you're absolutely right, this whole weight mess didn't happen overnight, and won't go away overnight - slow and steady wins the race!

Lu, congrats on the 2 lb loss! Is 1200 enough calories with all that exercise? I don't count cals, but that seems kinda low to me. So, how is Halloween in Hawaii?

Marie, oh, the poor baby falling in the pool! I guess you have had your hands full putting up a new fence! I must have missed the bit about Blizzard's hips and being on Rimadyl. My baby's been on Rimadyl daily for at least a couple years now. I sure didn't want to go down that road, but it has helped her so much. She was getting really slow about getting up and down - arthritis, of course, but the Rimmy made a huge difference! Anyway, I'm glad you two are both feeling better!

Judy, gadzooks! Linens n Things is going out of business? I hadn't heard that. The whole chain? Ugh, there are less and less choices every day. Isn't the unpacking fun? I haven't moved for um, 13 years, but I remember liking being able to put things where they belong. And of course there were several boxes that got shoved into the basement that I never opened for years. Then I realized that I must not need that stuff, so off to Freecycle it went. I had to look up VOIP - not very hip to technology here. Almost a dinosaur... Congrats on getting the night snacking monster tamed!

Mazza, Saturday morning spin class through me off, since it's still Friday night here. It's funny when one's world expands... Glad you enjoyed your exercise. And btw, I don't regret my tattoos one little bit. Of course they don't show except in a bathing suit, so it's not that big a deal, but I got things that are meaningful to me, so there's no reason to regret.

Penny, oh, it sure doesn't sound as good to get those eyebrows and then pay again to have them removed. But if they just fade, couldn't they still be covered with makeup? I guess it is a pretty serious commitment, like you said, it's permanently on your face. Eh, go for makeup!

Well, I'm supposed to be going on a hike in the morning, so I best get myself off this computer. Have a great weekend, everyone!

auntie g 11-01-2008 07:21 AM

Woo hoo! Another 1½ lbs down! I can't even believe it!
Off to go hiking... Have a great day!

cckayac 11-01-2008 08:16 AM

Wow took me a bit to catch up and I think I missed some info. Tatoo for you Penny you go girl. My son living in HI has quite a few but they are tastefully done and are quite nice. What is yours?
As far as the job promotion goes sounds just like I thought it would a snag from not having that piece of paper and it was so far its a no. Thats okay a little disappointed but yah know what in a way at least my job is a comfort level in many ways. What happens happens! Its not in anyway they didn't think that I couldn't do the work its a state regulation I guess and experiences don't count. I will catch up later my friend just walked in and we are off to the gym. I walked at work for exercise yesterday but today is the first real day at the gym.

paradise 11-01-2008 01:33 PM

Hi ladies!!

I hope everyone has a great weekend and don't eat too much candy. I was participating in a haunted house that I forgot to come back and post in my stat for the day.

1. 45 minutes of exercise.
2. 72 ounces of water.
3. last meal at 5 pm ( I had to go trick or treat)
4. 1,200 calories

Maries: I'm suppose to eat 1,500 calories but I think of what's going on right now, that I get too busy or I just don't get hungry. I'm glad that my husband was able to get a couple of day to extend his stay here in Hawaii. Monday for sure we will know the exact date. It should be sometime next week. The only thing I know right now for sure is that he will be gone for a year.

Penny: My mother in law has her eyebrows done and she loves them. I have two tatoos, one on my ankle and one on my bottom cheek (it's a yellow rose).
I have my done 9 years now and it still looks good. I wanted to thank you for keeping my husband in your prayers. That means so much to me. I will tell him that you are greatfull for his job.

Auntie: Halloween was great!! My dog was dressed up in scream. I had people take picture of him and I forgot to. Can you believe that? I guess, I got too excited about the whole thing.

Mazza: I love spinning classes. Last year, I use to go every morning. The spinning classes at the gym are in the mornings and I live 45 minutes away.
I can go while I take my daughter to school but they don't start until 8 am and my daughter is already in school by 7 am. It's an hour that I will have to wait. I guess in the future I can figure a way to go.

cckayac: Sorry, I forgot your name. Remember, I'm new. :-) Don't be disappionted about the promotion. I think the experience is better than a piece of paper. You know that you do a great job and that's what count. Think positive, you never know what the future holds. Good luck at the gym!!

I will try to come back today but if not have a great day.

Lu

Marie 11-01-2008 07:51 PM

Happy Saturday everyone. Well November brought drizzly, icky weather. But we were warned. DH and I got the fence up before the drizzle started. We also worked on the wiring in the house. DH still has the moving of lights and such with the remodeling.

Auntie, Blizzard has dysplascia (no idea how to spell it) and severe arthritis. She was diagnosed at 10 months old. We keep in control of the progression with Glucosimine/Chondritan (spelling again...) and walking 1.5 miles per day. If we hike longer, then she has Rimadyl so that she can move easier. Mostly it's in control with the Glucosimine stuff and exercise. When my heel was so bad that I couldn't take her out, that's when she started going downhill. I was getting pretty worried about her as she's my soul-doggie. Other than DH, she's my best friend in the world. But since I altered my Nikes, we're off again and she's better. Not great, but better and I'm not worried.

Carol, I'm sorry the govt regs are so stupid. It's sort of like the military. My DH has been in the military 26 years and has to salute a 22 yo office that just graduated from college. That is so stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid. At least you like your job and you know that your boss wanted you to be promoted. That is something to value.

Penny, probably a good choice on the eyebrows. I use the eyebrow powder because of blonde brows. It's not too hard every morning although I rub it away be afternoon. We'll get together again - the timing will be right.

Lu, you're getting a week's notice for a year deployment??? That's ridiculous. My friend's son-in-law at least got 4 month notice for his 3rd deployment to the sand box. Which branch are you part of?

Well, I'm exhausted and even too tired for typing so I'll be back tomorrow. Oh, exercise - took the doggies out before the drizzle and food is a little on the short side so as my stomach is growling, I'm going to find something. BTW, I made sourdough starter last week and my first loaf is in the bread machine. My fingers are crossed that it tastes yummy.
Marie

judydc 11-01-2008 10:00 PM

Back in business! I bought a little roll-up keyboard for $9.99 at a discount store, so I can type at home 'til my replacement keyboard arrives--and the roll-up will be great for my laptop when I travel :D.

Mazza, I still love my tattoo. It a rosebud (not very original) just above my left boob. I'm glad I got it in a place where it can be seen--or not, and it's a little bit sexy but not slutty, which would be weird when you get past a certain age.

Auntie, a few weeks ago LNT announced that the whole chain is going out of business. So many stores going under these days! Oh, and yet again, congrats on the lost pounds :carrot:

Carol, I'm sorry to hear about the promotion. I hope you had a good time at the gym.

So I weighed myself this morning for the first time in over a month: 219  Actually, I was afraid it would be even worse. So my Thanksgiving (that's Nov. 27, Mazza) goals are to do at least 50 minutes of cardio and/or weights at least five days a week, and to keep my journal everyday. I've been carrying it around all week, but I have lost the rhythm of tracking everything.

judy

2CtheREALme 11-01-2008 10:25 PM

Hi Ladies,

It's good to hear that everyone is still progressing on there Journey!

Judy: I love my tattoos too! I have 2 of them, one over the left boob (:D ) and one on my ankle.

Penpal: It's good that you did your research about the tattoos on the face; very smart of you!

Auntie G & Paradise: Congrats on the weightloss!! Awesome blossoms!

Judy: Yes, linen&things has already started to liquidate here. I bought some nice things for my apartment. I plan to go back and get drapes. They are 50%off.

Friday I did 45 min on the treadmill with a 10min cool down. I've been reading the biggest looser workout book and I wanted to make sure I warm up and cool down properly. I'm prone to get headaches if I don't. But I was very proud of myself and my workout. I have to be careful. I was listening to some really good music and as the beats sped up, so did I on the treadmill. I went alittle too fast on some parts! LOL! I was singing in my own little world!:o Next week I incoporate weights so I'm a little nervous but I plan to stick to it. I've rearranged my work schedule so that I can go into the gym Tues-Fri from 8:45am - 10am.

Saturday was a good day too. I woke up at 9am and started cleaning the house. I pretty much did this all day. This if my first break. I have one more room to do and I'll be done for the night; and then I can do my homework. I can't wait till this class is over with! It ends November
16th:carrot:

I didn't eat before 8pm on Friday, but I did tonight so I'm very happy about that!

Everyone enjoy the rest of their weekend!

Oh, I almost forgot...I got on the scale today and I've lost 3 pounds! Thank you Zelma and everyone who keeps me encouraged and inspired 2CtheREALme.

Mi Mi

auntie g 11-02-2008 10:53 AM

Hi all! I had a nice long hike yesterday, and was feeling good, but then overate at my nephew's b-day party last night. Now I'm feeling bloated and icky. But it's a new day, and it'll all be fine! Cooking chicken soup in the crockpot today- it's starting to smell good...

Carol, sorry about the promotion thing. Just enjoy your current job- you never know what's just around the corner, anyway!

Lu, hope you get some more time with your DH before he has to go. Glad you had a nice Halloween.

Marie, oh, what we won't do for our doggies! We've got the glucosamine thing going too, and I think it makes a big difference. Even with arthritis and knee injuries, Jessi is in better shape than the other dogs she used to play with when she was younger. A lot of them do not get ANY walks. They just go out into a fenced yard to do their business, and that's that. Not good! We all need to exercise, as you know well ;), and Jess is the only one of her peers that gets that. Mmmmm, how's that sourdough bread?

Judy, oh boy, I guess I better get to LNT before it's too late! Glad the scale wasn't as evil as you thought it would be. Now get to tracking!!! :drill:

Mi Mi, :woohoo: on the 3 lbs down! Sounds like you're on a roll - getting in that exercise, and all! Keep up the good work!

Marie 11-02-2008 12:58 PM

Morning all, well I really overdid the exercise this morning. I did my big aerobic/toning workout (52 minutes) because it was drizzling and yucky out. By the time I was done, the drizzle had stopped and it looked promising, so I took the doggies out hiking. My feet are aching now. :D But I got quite the workout.

Today while watching football and nascar (Zzzzz-boring) I'm going to sew a new roman shade for my great room. The one I did 5 years ago is faded and nearly brown (it was forest green) so I started a new one yesterday. I have it cut out and now just have to sew it. Since I already have the hardware, it should be pretty simple.

The sourdough bread looked gorgeous. Big tall loaf and smelled lovely. Bit into it and it was very yeasty. So I'm going to take my sister's recommendation and look for specific sourdough yeast/started and research a good recipe. The recipe might have been just the problem.

Mi mi,:carrot:Way to go on the 3 pounds. You are doing absolutely fabulous. Being careful with exercise is very wise so your on the right track.

Auntie, good for you on the hikes and walking Jessi. If you're taking her out for walks, you are getting exercise whether you realize it or not. Since I live in the mountains, anytime I walk out my front door, it's hiking up or down mountain roads. It's always the workout. About 4 years ago, I couldn't make it up the first hill without a couple breaks. Now I cruise up it and really push to walk fast. All because of my doggies.

Judy, very wise on the keyboard solution. Keyboards are dirt cheap now so not using your computer till the new one arrives would be silly. And if you don't like laptop keyboards (I do) then this will be a good travel solution. Good for you getting on the evil scale. You'll be back down in no time. I have confidence in you.

Mr Scale was very congenial this morning. Since my re-start August 5th, I've lost 12 pounds. Certainly not rocketing down the scale, but 12 pounds is not too bad.

Well, it's football time and I haven't moved the sewing machine out of the craft room.
Marie

mazza 11-02-2008 04:55 PM

Greetings! Over here the day has just begun and I'm taking for granted advantage of starting work today at 2pm.

Auntie G - did you have to travel for long to get to your hiking trail? If not, it sounds lovely living close enough to a nice place to go hiking around.

Marie, are you a big sewer? I've always admired the fact that some people are taleted enough to do awesome things like    make     their own clothes. Good on you for the 12 pounds! and sourdough? Yum! I hope you find a yummy recipe.

Judy - I love bargain electronic goods. A $10 keyboard sounds like a great deal! I hope you get your replacement soon from dell. I've never owned a dell and I've heard mixed reviews on them - what's your take?

Mi Mi - Congrats on the 3 pounds! It's always awesome to see the scale go down when you've worked hard for it.

I'm off to an aerobics circuit class soon. I hope all of you have a great start to the week. :D

- Mazza.

I should be in bed, but here I am on the computer again... :dizzy: Well, my chicken soup was delicious! And that will cover 3 more days this week, so yee hah! DH is fine with repeating meals when there's meat involved, since it's something of a rarity for me.

Marie, was football boring, or just the Nascar? (I know your Packers lost in OT, but I can't stand to watch car racing, so even a losing football game is good in comparison!) (And I don't mean to be offensive about the Nascar, it's kind of a joke around here that we "fight" with a friend about. He's a Nascar fan and won't watch hockey, and DH is all about hockey and won't watch Nascar.)

Too bad about the bread. Better luck next time! And it sounds like an awesome place where you live! We are in what I expect is typical suburbia. The mountains are about an hour away, so we do get there, but certainly not on a daily basis. We have flat square blocks to walk around, unless we get in the car and go somewhere, but that's just not gonna happen all the time. And I don't like to take Jessi anywhere anymore, because I'm afraid of running into strange dogs. She's been attacked more than once (though twice on our own street, so my theory doesn't really make much sense, does it?) Hmmmm, I may have to rethink things... :?:

Mazza, I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the time difference! I'm going to have to look up a world map or something... It's so interesting! My hiking spot was only about 20 minutes away, and that was even with getting lost trying to find the entrance! So it shall happen again, for sure. What's the terrain like in your neck of the woods?

Hey, I'm too tired to look this up now, so just wondering... did any of you NOT get to turn back the clock last night?

Off to bed. Have a happy Monday!

Hello everyone nice to see so many folks on here thats super. I had a busy weekend and enjoyed having the party at my house for the 2 gs bdays. The pizzas I made and sausage rolls were a hit. Then I made a lovely apple tart at only 209 cals per slice great recipe. So tasty. I have been at the gym 2 days in the row and am enjoying it. I will workout again today afterwork. At the end of my workout I enjoy the massage chair wow that only 5 min. but so relaxing after a good workout. The scale was much nicer on friday morning but I had salty things this weekend and did endulge a bit so its my own fault. So today I am starting my week long journey of being good and eat healthy lots of water. I hope for a woosh of lbs. but anything will be better than nothing. Thanks for all your support with the job thing. I guess it was a bit disappointing but in the long run it would of been even more stressful and who needs that for a couple bucks more. I have enough deadlines now. I made a great apple tart of only 209 cals per slice not bad.
Judy good for you stepping on the scale me to at least it helps me to be more in tune with what is happening when I do eat different things. Seeing the numbers go down last week was nice now to get myself back there and then some. Hang in there.
Marie the sour dough starter hummm look for a recipe on the yahoo search. Sounds great. I would like to start some new recipes as well so feel free to share. I currently have been cutting down on bread though.
Penny wow soap time is coming I have to get busy. I have been making some jewelry and would like to start selling some. I have a few folks interested.
Mi mi isn't that such a wonderful thing when you see the numbers go down. Congrats...
Lu being in the service is such a loyal mission. I am proud of all the service folks out there. Hang in here were enjoying your company too.
To everyone else we will lose together and be stronger healthier woman, life stlye changes are the best not fad diets that are short term. I hope to continue with my workouts and learning to eat healthier.

Keep up with your exercises and good eating habits!!

Have a great day ladies!!

Monday Morning... so blue font :(

How I wish it was still weekend. Auntie, Nascar, boring. I did like it for a while, but only the first 20 laps and the last 25. I sleep in the middle. A friend at work calls it a race nap. But the football, it was irritating. The Packers gave the game away. It's so frustrating sometimes that I want to slap my TV. I loved hockey in college and went to see the Minnesota North Stars in a Stanley Cup game, but then they moved to Dallas and that ended that sports for me. Mostly I look at Sunday sports as a time to do stained glass (or in yesterday's case - irritating sewing). I really value weekends where there's no sports though. And come winter and ski season starts, no football or Nascar for me. Although DH and I are going to the Daytona 500 in February. Him a Nascar race (and it is way funner in person) for one day and me, six days on the beach. Fair tradeoff if you ask me.

Mazza, I'm a good sewer. My mom's only real hobby is sewing and she's unreal good. She made sure her daughters knew how to sewing expertly. But I actually dislike sewing quite a bit. I do it only when I can't buy what I want. The roman shades are one of the things. I believe Carol is our sewer that likes sewing. for me it's a chore. I love stained glass and drawing.

Carol, good luck getting back on track. Don't let weekends through you for a loop. Think of Auntie's scale slayer picture and it will help you keep control. I keep the picture in my bathroom by the scale so I see if several times a day. :D

Lu, :carrot:on the 4 pounds. That's wonderful!!!!!! Enjoy the time with your DH. We'll be here when he deploys.

Judy and Penny, I hope all is good with you.

I did 32 minutes aerobis this morning with the 12 minutes of toning. My neck is a little sore so I need to pay more attention to my form while doing cruches. food is right on but heck, it's only 10:00 in the morning. It was raining this morning so the pups couldn't go out. They weren't happy but DH said if it stopped during the day he'd try to remember to take them out. He has the day off. Well, back to work...

holla chicas!!! (hello ladies)!!

I have my monthly friend and she is giving me some bad cramps. I was suppose to take birth control pills to control her but I stopped taking them. I think I will have to get back on them. :-( I hate taking pills. I can have it for 2 weeks straight and heavy. Today, I won't be seeing any kind of exercise done. Hopefully, after I take some hot tea my cramps will calm down a bit.

Marie: My husband is in the Marines. On Oct. 15th they told him that he might be deploying in the middle of November but that it wasn't a sure thing because we had orders at the time to go to California in December. So we thought, after a week or two of not hearing anything about it, that things had not changed. Then all of this happened. Hopefully I will know today when he leaves. He started packing some stuff last night.

cckayac: I'm glad that you are enjoying going to the gym. That's the attitude we need to hear. Just exercise a little more for me. LOL!!

I will be back later.

TODAY'S THOUGHT

Do you really know what you're made of?

It's easy to stay true to our values when life is sunny. But because sometimes hope disappears, options run out, and bright days can turn dark, all you can really count on to be there is your own inner strength. These low points are chances to learn what you're capable of when you refuse to be knocked down for good. You may not be able to choose your hardships or options. But you do have the power to face what you're given with high character. Trust yourself and your instincts, and your best will come forward. Think about the last time you had the choice to fold under pressure or to rise to the occasion. How might you have handled it a little differently? If there's room for improvement, what actions would have made you more proud of yourself?

mazza 11-03-2008 06:11 PM

Hello, hello all.:)

Auntie G - I totally know what you mean about the time-difference confusion. I have a windows vista 'gadget' that is a clock set to L.A time so that I have an idea as to what time it is in the US when I'm posting here. Right now, it says the time is 6pm. Right now in AUS it is 10:00am tuesday 4th.

I live in the heart of Sydney - about 20 mins bus ride from the central business district. I like it and it's what I've always known, but it can be loud and intimidating sometimes. I love the fact that the view from my bedroom window is centrepoint tower and the harbour bridge (the latter which I frequently cross on the train to get to North Sydney). I live in the suburb which they call 'little Italy' - and it's a thriving, culture - rich area. Walking home at night down the main street, the smell of pizza is in the air.

I have an exam later today which I'm not exactly dreading.. I'd just rather not have to do it ...hehe.
Started a new job yesterday which I really like. The boss is only about 5 or 6 years older than me and I have a friend who works there (and got me the job). It's a retail store, and so far so good.

How is the beginning of autumn (or 'fall') over ther in the US? Is everyone feeling the change yet? I know I always get a little depressed when the weather changes from summer to winter... kind of like S.A.D but not nearly as intense.

Over here the weather has been all over the place lately. Going from 36 degrees celcius (97 farenheit) and completely scorching one day to 17 celcius (63 F) the other. Today it is overcast and humid but still quite warm. Eeeew. I'm really happy about the fact it isn't raining much though.

Had a hard day with food yesterday, but kept on track for the most part. Got in a great workout.

I hope everyone is doing well and had a great start to the week.

Paradise - thank you for the inspiring thoughts. :)

- Mazza.

penpal 11-03-2008 06:58 PM

Marie - Way to go with keeping up the exercise - you're doing great since you've been back on track. I didn't realize your DH has been in the military for so long - my thanks to him too for his service and for keeping us all safe.

Lu - I hope the hot tea helped with your cramps. Congratulations on the 4lbs. lost! :carrot:

Mazza - I remember "Little Italy" in Sydney, especially the great restaurants. We lived in Coogee and Hurstville. We'd love to go back for a visit one day and see our old friends down under. We even thought about retiring to the Central Coast (Terrigal) but I think it would be hard to leave our son here on his own as we don't have any other family here.

Carol - Have fun making soaps. I'm going to soon make some for the bazaar. I may make some soap petals as I haven't done those for a while and people like them for gifts.

Judy - I hope everything is going well with you. I'm not doing so great with my Thanksgiving goal but who knows, maybe I'll get a whoosh!

Mi Mi - Congrats on the 3 lbs. loss - way to go! :dancer:

I'm getting my usual "fall stress" with getting ready for our big bazaar & tea on November 21st. I've started some crafts. I'm making some decorated red visors for the Red Hat ladies, some loofah soaps, poinsettia pins (I use poinsettias taken from a swag and attach pin backs and felt covering the pin). I'm also making some catnip toys, doggie scarves and some of the cake stands. For these I use Xmas and Thanksgiving plates attached to a glass candle holders - these were very popular last year and dead easy to make.

We're a bit concerned about our DS as his firm has laid off 10 people and he has a feeling he may get laid off soon too. He works for a large architectural engineering company and they've been hit hard with the slow down in building. There are no engineering jobs in Boise as several other firms have had layoffs recently. He's seriously considering a full time law enforcement career since he has already finished his training as a reserve officer. He likes police work so he has our blessing if that's what he really wants to do. Hopefully he'll be able to eventually find a job in law enforcement where he can use some of his engineering skills.

auntie g 11-03-2008 07:35 PM

Ugh, Monday... The day was fine, didn't do anything bad, and got a lot done around the house. Then I found out DH's pickup needs $700 worth of work, and that made me cranky! I guess this, too, shall pass, but dang! I better start playing the lottery.

Carol, sounds like you had quite a fun weekend! Good luck with the new week's plan! A whoosh week would be nice...

Marie, ok, sleeping in the middle of the race does sound like a fine plan! Don't tell DH, but sometimes I do that for hockey, too. ;) I used to think of football as a good excuse to take a nap, but I've gotten pretty into it now. Just the Eagles, though, I can still sleep through other games. And I think I'd go for 6 days at the beach if I just had to sit through a race, too! Hope you have a rain-free day tomorrow!

Lu, congrats on the 4 lbs! Don't forget to change it on your profile! And yeah, spend as much time with your hubby as you can!

Mazza, all right now, your post appeared here around my 6:00, which would make it 3:00 in California. I'm trying to figure this out... I'm going to have to look at a time zone map, or something. How interesting that you have a Little Italy, too. We've got one in Philadelphia, and maybe they have 'em in every city - I don't get out much! :lol3: I'm definitely going to do a search on Sydney and see what I can learn. I would be totally out of control if I was smelling pizza all the time. Mmmmmm... We're definitely into fall now, but still getting some days in the 60s on the east coast. Trying to keep the heater turned down until we have no choice!

Penny, good luck with your bazaar prep! Sounds like you make some interesting stuff! I'd like to know about the cake stands - how do you attach them to the base? Hope everything works out for your son - times are sure tough, but he's got skills, so it's all good!

cckayac 11-03-2008 07:54 PM

Penny I hope your son does okay with his job so scary these days. My son says he is really booked with work in HI. But it is a lot of folks redoing what they already own instead of building new updates instead. He is currently booked 4 months out. Wish it were that way for my sil here with his work and for your son too. Life is only going to get tougher I think.
Sorry to say.
Gifts from the heart and kitchen will be in this years gift giving for me.
Lu good luck with the hubby. Where are they sending him?
Marie your are right on the mark about the weekends Auntie g I will have to copy that and hang it up.
I worked out again today just for 30 min. but better than not at all so now I am up to day 3 in a row. Wow thats super for me. My goal is 10lbs by christmas maybe I should do 5lbs by Thanksgiving? That might be a good half way mark. My intake today was good around 1400 cals I still have room for my 100 cal yogurt. My homemade ck soup was a bit salty hubby loved it as he is sick with a cold sil was more critical with her opinion and said it was salty. Oh can't please the old dog lately. She keeps it up and pbj will be her dinner hah hah. Naughty me. Well thats about all for now so take care everyone and hang in there with support and laughter we are going to get our goal met...

Marie 11-04-2008 12:25 PM

Bright blue font for the blue sky out my window (I'm ignoring the ring of gray clouds surrounding the basin). I love sunshine!!!!

OK, reading the posts since yesterday made me laugh out loud. We're a funny group. I love humor in the midst of it all.

I worked on stained glass with DH last night. I'm working on his project and he joined me. I really thought with building his plane that he'd have abandoned it so that's why I started on it (many $$$ invested in it so far). It was really nice and relaxing. Then it snowed over night. Yes, with the bits of bright blue sky, there's white on the ground. I had to use 4 wheel drive to work. So Mazza, in my neck of the woods, we skipped over autumn and went to winter. Last week it was in the 70's.

Penny, I think that your son should aim for the FBI - I bet they'd jump at the chance to have an engineer grad. They do lots of stuff with buildings and rescues. You son could have a great time and be with the top dog. Just an idea - can you tell I'm listening to a book featuring the FBI??? :D:D:D

Lu, you gotta love the military for their thoughtful and kind way of dealing with families. The family services sent me a survey on the kind and caring military. I completed the answers with as much thought and caring that the military has for it's members/families. I'm sorry about the short notice. The orders to California - will you be moving or are they temporary orders? Or are they canceled due to the deployment?

Carol, WTG on the 3 days of exercise. It does make you feel good, doesn't it?

Auntie, bad truck. I tell you, bad truck. Did you tell it that it didn't do anything to deserve $700 of your hard earned money? And I agree with you, we all need a whoosh week. :dizzy:

Judy, I hope all is good with you.

No doggie walk this morning - it was still snowing and it sounded like a bad idea in my brain. So I did an old Richard Simmons Sweatin' tape. It was fun and made me laugh except for some reason my DVD player was in the mood to play in black and white only. So the sock hop was really 50's style.

I suppose I should work now... :(

judydc 11-04-2008 12:32 PM

Hi! I've been fixated on the presidential election, sleepy and continually grinding my teeth over some of the more deceptive and hateful commercials that were aired the past few days :censored:. My grandparents' generation (Southern blacks) weren't allowed to vote, so of course this campaign is especialy meaningful for me and my family. Years ago, I was one of those folks who did get-out-the-vote work, door-knocking and phone calling. These days, all I do is send money and fulminate with my friends. The line to vote this morning was long but went smoothly. Tonight I'll hang out with an ultra-political crowd and keep my fingers crossed that we'll be celebrating :crossed:

My replacement keyboard arrived already, so Mazza, I'm happy enough with Dell at the moment. Sydney has always been on my list of places to visit. I always thought it would be cool to do a grand tour of the cities and towns that ladies on this thread hail from!

Mi Mi and Lu, hooray for the big loss! :high:

Penny, I hope that you're pacing yourself with the bazaar this year. You seem to take on a lot of responsibility! Remember, this is all supposed to be for fun, right? ;)

Marie, I wish you lived close by. Along with being my personal techie, you could also run up some kind of a window treatment for me. My new apartment has lovely large windows with a nice view, but they are very drafty. Plus they are covered with nasty venitian blinds...alas, I'm not crafty. I have a friend who is handy with a sewing machine, and I'm trying to get her to visit soon--I know she'll be appalled by the blinds, and maybe I can manipulate her into hooking me up .

Carol, way to go with the workouts :carrot:.

Auntie, I'm a sports fan, but watching cars race around the track would be like some outer circle of **** for me. I'm more into the big three--football, baseball and basketball. Hockey...not so much.

I'm off to a slow start this week. The financial situation at work (a nonprofit) is stressful, and I have such a backlog of to-dos. The cool, damp temperature and the worries really make me "hungry." I've been making and freezing soups, which help--lentil soup, chili, fish chowder--but it's a constant nagging struggle not to munch to soothe myself. I didn't have time to work out this morning (voting) and I will get home very late tonight, so I will make up an errand at lunch and at least go for a long walk, then take a long walk to the election party tonight.

Hi Ladies,

Just stopping in to say thank you for the many good wishes and encouragement.

Lu, congrats Ms. Lady!!

Auntie G--I'm just trying to be like you in this weightloss journey! LOL!

Penpal--you guys just stay positive and try to focus on the solutions, and not the problem.

Mazza, keep up the good work.

Good luck to all the ladies on this day! I hope everyone went out and voted today ;)

Today, I went to the gym and got in 55 min on the treadmill including the cool down; and 20 minutes on the weights. Today was legs! My butt was burning today! LOL! But, it's a good burn!

paradise 11-04-2008 02:55 PM

Hello ladies,

Marie: Because of the deployment our orders got canceled. I'm just thinking positive and hoping that we to go to Okinawa or stay here a little longer. But we will see.

Carol: I know you will reach your goal of 10 lbs by Christmas. My husband will be deploying to Afghanistan and just found out he will be leaving this Satuday, Nov. 11th.

One of his friends will be coming over to help him with his gear, so I decided I should make some chicken enchiladas. His friend will be here with his wife so I told her she should come over for dinner.

I'm still have cramps, so here is another day without exercising. I hate exercising in the begining of my monthly friend because it gets worse. But I should be able to workout tomorrow.

Everyone have a great day!!

Take care,

Lu

Thought for Today!!

For want of a nail, the shoe was lost. For want of the shoe, the horse was lost. For want of the horse, the rider was lost. For want of the rider, the battle was lost. For want of the battle, the kingdom was lost. And all for the want of a horseshoe nail!

Your smallest actions add up to something big

Everything you do makes a difference. Even if you're not on the front lines leading the effort, you have a contribution to make. Without your contribution, no matter how small, so many other things would never happen. The world needs what you have to offer. You have no idea how the simplest of your everyday actions can effect your child, and even people you've never met. Chances are, you'll never know. But if you're looking for a purpose to work toward, all you need is the desire and the right perspective. Define yourself as your task, and that's all you'll ever be. Define yourself as your contribution to your family, and suddenly you're a very important part of a bigger picture. The biggest pictures are the ones where there's room for everyone to be seen.

Take Care,

Lu

cckayac 11-04-2008 07:27 PM

Lu my thoughts are with your family at this time. It must be tough but you both sound like strong folks. Lu I love your little reading they make so much sense.
Marie you keep that snow we are having out Indian summer here. Today was in the 60's sunny and nice. I am driving to a conference about 35 miles away on wed. so glad its nice out. Today I didn't go to the gym but the coworkers and I walked 25 min. and I did an additional this a.m. 15 so I figure wow 4 days of exercise and it feels good. I was a bit sore today I must say. But thats okay at least I know its working. The scale was still up a bit higher today but down from monday. I ate a bagel with ff cr. ch. for breakfast, had a salad with chicken, croutons for lunch with spray dressings. Dinner was a bit on a no no ck parm. with some sauce and thin spaghetti but I only ate 1/2 which was quite big portions. So tonight only a fresh grapefruit for a snack. Lots of water intake today. I am not a person who gives everything up just cuts back and adds cals. Bit higher today around 1600 total but not too bad. Much better than some choices and the walking had to burn some cals. So I will keep moving forward in the right direction for my goal.
Went to vote I am with your Judy at the polls this a.m. by 7. In and out. Awaiting word and praying whom is put in this position is strong enough to make some good choices and move this country in the right directions because its not so good right now... economy is slumping and people are so stressed. Everytime I speak to my daughter my heart goes out to her and my sil. All you can do is try your best to be supportive.
Aunite g your doing good... Maza keep it up girl....

auntie g 11-04-2008 10:19 PM

Evening, all! Having a hard day today. I behaved until a couple hours ago, and then got attacked by the chocolate monster. PMS and being alone all day... not a good combo. DH has been out at the polls since 6:30am, and will not be home until well after I give up for the night. Ugh!

Carol, keep up the good work with the exercise! A little chicken parm won't hurt as long as you keep on moving!

Marie, Richard Simmons - LOL! I used to love him when he was the only game in town, but now he makes me sad. But whatever works, right? Like I have a right to any opinion on the matter... And I sure did have some words for the truck, but I don't think it cared. :( It's so nice that you and your DH can work on projects together. We've got such different interests here that I can't even imagine that!

Judy, ah, you're all wrapped up in the political scene, too, huh? I personally HATE politics, but DH is so involved that I can't keep my head in the sand anymore. Waaaah! I hope you have a celebratory night, assuming we're on the same team, that is... LOL ;)

Mi Mi, you're kicking butt with the exercise! Keep it up! (And stay away from the chocolate monster, too!)

Lu, hope you're feeling better tomorrow. We'll be thinking of you with your husband on the road to Afghanistan. Stay positive! And thanks for today's thought of the day. It was a goodie!

Better get back to the election results - I thought I'd be fast, but I always get sucked into computer land longer than I'd planned. (No TV in the computer room here - eek!)

Have a good Wednesday, everybody!
