Worldly Chicks - Let's Jettison the Junk in June

Is it deja vu?

Nope  Just rebuilding the thread after the Great Server Crash of June 5. Apparently all posts after May 23 have been lost.

But we are a chatty lot and will catch up quickly.

Take a deep breath and stretch - how often do you get a second chance to do over 2 whole weeks?

Sounds like a good time to firm up the resolve to me. So welcome to June. I myself will be working on jettisoning some "junk in the trunk"

happy2bme 06-07-2008 12:16 AM

Looks like I'll have to reload my avatar too.

Shad 06-07-2008 12:27 AM

Oh is that what happened? I was there and then I couldn't get back in. Aaahh well we had all been saying how slow and strange the site had been getting.

I'm at the airport, waiting for the flight that never comes. It's been delayed twice now. But that's okay, they may have to pour me into the plane if it finally gets here. Not sure of the reason behind the delays, but they are definitely running late today.

Should be back in Brisbane tonight. I will catch up at that point.
See ya all

Shad 06-07-2008 12:28 AM

Pretty avatar happy!!

Shy Moment 06-07-2008 12:35 AM

Hello everyone

happy2bme 06-07-2008 12:57 AM

Thank you Shad, you were there when DH took it (the picture in my avatar). It's the famous water lily from the pond at the Botanical Gardens in Chicago. I believe you have a white one somewhere in your collection.

I hope your flight got going finally. Flying today is annoying enough but when you get delayed, it's horrendous. Hope you are at least in a decent airport.

Good to see the chicks are gathering back in again. I was wondering why the site was out of commission last night and today. Should have known it was server issues - particularly since Suzanne is good about announcing planned outtages. This website is a labor of love, so glad for everything that Jen and Suzanne do for us.

So... DH was going to head out at 3am on Saturday to go pick up the car. I really wanted to go with him and he convinced me otherwise. I was hoping that all would be well with the car. Now mind you they called us on Tuesday and said the car was fixed and ready to be picked up. This evening I was out pulling briars out of the bushes and talking to Mom who was chillin' on the patio when the telephone rang. DH went inside to answer it and comes out. It was the Toyota place. They took the car for a test drive TODAY and discovered the radiator needed replacing. TODAY - 4 days AFTER they call and say it's ready they decide to test drive it?????? And - when it got towed in, the whole front end is smashed in, the radiator is smoking and the car is undriveable. How could you NOT think the radiator needed to be looked at?????? Has service truly gotten that bad or is it just this way down here? All I can say is that it's a very good thing that DH did not drive 350 miles, drop off the rental, get 100 miles or so down the road and then discover there were problems out in SmackDabIndaMiddleUhNowhere Illinois.  Now I have to say that the customer service person who has been helping us has been super incredible fantasmagoric helpful way more than she needs to be but I still have to wonder... Anyway that will probably take another week so at least I will be available to ride with DH on the next attempt. Although I'm almost thinking it might be better to play co-pilot from here at home.

I had a nice day off today. My friend from work came over and spent a long lunch with us at the house. We had a great visit. Worked in the yard for a while - geez it was hot out. Grilled up some nice fish for supper with some sugar snap peas and a mandarin orange/cranberry/walnut spinach salad. DH took us down to the custard place for some soft serve ice cream :T he came back and had a dish of vanilla with some homemade strawberry rhubarb sauce I made the other day. And another day has raced by...

Didn't have anything special planned for tomorrow - Mom wants another trip to the used book store, I will probably do more yard work. She did all the laundry yesterday because she wanted something to do. So we can kind of chill out. My friend at work recommended a retired gentleman who is going to start doing the lawn mowing and perhaps some trimming for us. That will really help DH as it's getting pretty hard on his back and with the hours I work, I can only really help out just a bit on the weekends. I'm kind of hoping that if DH doesn't have to make the big drive this weekend that perhaps he can work on fixing the broken pipe so we can open the pool. Supposed to be in the 90's all week long - a swim would be nice.

And now I think it's time to get to sleep. Good night chicks. Safe travels Shad.

ceejay52 06-07-2008 11:26 AM

Morning ladies
Happy
Love the new avatar. I worked outside from 5 p.m. on with interuptions from the neighbors. It was hot, but not bad with the breeze.

Shad
did you make it home?

Mel
Are your eyes doing better?

My trip to Jonesboro to the doctor was really good. He's a keeper. He took the heart diesease on my mom's side of the family very serious. Something my previous doctor didn't do.

Thank's to the three sisters for getting the sight back up and running.

My goal for today is to reclaim my bedroom and finish the laundry before going to Paragould for the rest of the week end.

upswife 06-07-2008 01:15 PM

I found the new thread!!! I must have popped on right after they got it back up and running because I didn't see the announcement until this morning.

I am feeling better, now just a little queasy, but much better that vomiting all the time...TMI Thankfully my sister was able to stay with us and help me out, otherwise my kids would have missed the last two weeks of school. They are out now, and driving me nuts! Hoping I feel well enough in the next few weeks to go out to the gym and take them swimming...they have been so good about me being sick...my nose has been extra sensitive, and they have learned that after being outside not to come very close to me. LOL

Have to get moving and hop in the shower...talk to you ladies later!

Shad 06-07-2008 07:16 PM

Morning all,
I did get home last night. 2 hours later than planned but who is counting. DS picked me up wearing a tee shirt, cut off jeans and bare feet and complaining about the cold. Since I was wearing thermals and about 3 layers of everything I was complaining about the heat. Came home to find the DS had cleaned the kitchen, cleaned the lounge, done some washing, cleaned the loo and bath so today is not looking as busy as it was. I suspect we may have a new lady on the horizon!!!

The Go-Advanced setting is working again. Must have been something to do with the server problems and not just me as I thought.

Happy - good job the DH hadn't left for his long journey when they rang. I think you are justified in feeling a bit annoyed about the radiator problem, however it may have been that while the car was sitting around waiting to be picked up, they noticed a pool of water on the floor, or they wanted to move it someplace to make way for something else and were alerted to the problem. I remember an old car we had once that did just that. Fine while the car was moving along but idling or standing was another story. I'm just guessing here, but there may be a reason for this. Anyway, better as I said to know now and not when he is a hundred miles into his journey.
Melbourne Airport is okay. Nice shops although expensive, and I have membership to the Qantas Club so I could go get a drink and a nibble as required. Just glad there wasn't a huge delay or I might have had more than one drink.

Mel, I have had to unload all the cookies and temp files on the laptop to be able to get past May as well. Microsofts Vista sure keeps me guessing on occasions. I'm using the laptop because DS2 has shifted the modem because we are now on wireless internet and he had my computer going okay last night but this morning I can't get onto my mail or the internet on it, so I am using the laptop, where I can do these things. Bah humbug. I did walk alone and unaided to my plane. I stopped at the shops along the way. Didn't buy anything but went slow so they had to wait for me. After all, I'd had to wait for them and I knew they wouldn't go without me. Wouldn't dare.

Morning Ceejay - yes I did make it home okay. Thank goodness. Glad to hear you are getting on well with the new doctor.

Ellen - hi, hope you get to feel better from now on.

And with that, I'd better go and get on with today. The poor garden looks awful. I need to weed and trim.

Madcat 06-07-2008 08:20 PM

We crashed? I wander off for a few days and we lose all our posts? Sorry I missed it~
Happy ~ I love your new avatar! Geez, what a car story. Yeah, wouldn’t checking the radiator be the first thing you would do in a front end crash?? I think it’s a great idea to get someone who wants to do the yard work to help out.

Mel~ Glad you made it out of the woods and found your way, following breadcrumbs, out of the forest again. Stay Cool!

Shad~ I had to laugh that your conclusion that the house was clean because your DS wanted to impress a chick! Men!

Ceejay~ How terrific that you found a keeper doc. Hang onto him!

Ellen~ Hope you feel better and better soon. Geez man, I do not know you how Mom’s cope when you get sick, but it’s good that you got some family help. I am in awe!

The warm weather is finally here (YAY) and so the DH and I patio’d, and tomorrow I will go for a LONG bike ride to compensate. Tomorrow morning is grocery shopping and the plan is to buy things to build 3 lunches to take to work. I can manage that, I think. If all else fails, at least I am eating veggies!

Ok. I’m not going to press my luck but I’m going to post this entry. Thank you to the sisters for getting the techie issues under control. Work has been crazy busy this week as we get into system testing with some of the users. We’ve had some good feedback, but spending all day coming up with ways to break the darn thing can be tiring.

happy2bme 06-08-2008 01:21 AM

Hey all,

I'll probably post now as Mom and I are going to church in the morning which means getting up and dressed early so I won't get to the PC for a while tomorrow. The days are flying by - Mom is leaving Tuesday morning :( we have all enjoyed each other's company. I told her she had to come for longer next time. She said who would take care of the house? I told her if she sold it that would not be a problem but she is not quite ready for that yet.

Today we went shopping and happened into the library when they were having a huge Friends of the Library book sale. We got a bag full of bargains. I'll probably be shipping some books home to Mom since she got more than she could carry. We had a nice dinner at Outback Steak House and then came home, watched a movie and had some ice cream. It was a nice day - well maybe not for poor DH who slaved working in the very hot yard while we were shopping. But next week will be back to the routine and I'll help him and he will also have Mr. M helping him out.

Madcat - good luck with the testing. Hope you and DH have a great bike ride tomorrow. Isn't it wonderful to have nice fresh weather again? And fresh veggies to take for lunches. I am excited that the farmer's markets are open again.

Shad - that was very nice of DS to clean up the place -even if he had ulterior motives ;) nice to come home to an orderly ship. Did you get much gardening done? Have the weeds awakened with the recent rains?

Ellen - sorry to hear that the morning sickness is still hanging around. Nice that your sister was able to help you out. Hope you get back on your feet soon.

Ceejay - I like that phrase - reclaim the bedroom - it fits the battles I have sometimes  Did you get everything done on your list? Looks like it's even hotter up your way than over here. You must be sizzling.

Mel - I still have the wheels - won't ever delete them. Will be glad to send them your way again. I hope you were able to get outside for a little bit. Tonight Mom and I watched the movie 27 Dresses. It starts out with Katherine Heigl talking about growing up in YOUR TOWN! It's famous now!!!! I said to Mom - that's where Mel lives!!!!!! I get excited about the littlest things :)

Well Mom went upstairs and then came down and we wound up chatting for over an hour. So now it's really late and I have to get up early so I can get ready on time and grab a cup of coffee before church.

So hello to Shy and Carla and our other lurkers. And a good night to all, good day to those on in the sun's light right now...

MELODY525 06-08-2008 07:15 AM

JEN IS LEAVING TODAY. THE DD IS ARRIVING TODAY. GRANDPA IS BUYING A NEW TRAILER FOR SURE AND IT'S GETTING DELIVERED NEXT WEEKEND. THAT'S ALL THE NEWS FROM NJ. DARE I SAY IT'S BEEN A BIT QUIET?
HAPPY SUNDAY/MONDAY :moped:

diyana 06-08-2008 10:11 AM

Happy Sunday ladies --

I tried checking in Friday, but the site was unavailable. We've had lots of storms here since Friday night. We did manage to get a bit of fishing in yesterday morning before it got hot, muggy and rainy. We didn't catch anything, but we did have fun. It'll be a rainy, stormy day with thunder, lightning, hail and all the rest. So we'll be close to home, but away from the computer.

I need to shore up my resolve as well. I've been eating more treats than I should and exercising less. So that's gotta change.

Happy - your new avatar is lovely. What a pain about the car repair place! Why didn't they test drive it BEFORE they said it was ready. :dunno: At least DH hadn't left yet. Sounds like you're really enjoying the time with your mom. :) How nice that your friend could come by for a visit. What a shame that your mom is leaving so soon. I feel so fortunate that DMIL has been here since the end of April and we still have a little over a month left with her - even that feels like too short a time. So I can relate to your sadness.

Shad - I'm glad you made it back home. So nice that DS had cleaned the house and done the laundry. What a treat! Even if he did possibly have to clean to impress a lady friend.

Mel - I hope your A/C gets fixed. We had ours on yesterday and through the night, probably today too. Just to keep the mugginess out of the house.

Madcat - Good luck with your system testing.

CeeJay - I'm glad to hear your doctor visit went well. It's so nice to find a good doctor. DH and I finally found one here. I hope you have a nice time in Paragould.

Ellen - I'm glad the morning sickness is getting better. So nice that your sister was able to help you out.

Well, ladies, I'd better run and get going on my day!

Big  and  to all!

upswife 06-08-2008 02:21 PM

afternoon ladies! I didn't make it to church this morning, still feeling a little ugh. Slept all morning...I must have been pushing too hard the last few days. The kids had a couple of appts so I pushed to get to them...one more on MOnday, Then Friday I have an OB appt...thankfully they are super close and I don't have to drive too far. the family should be home soon, but the rain may hold them up a little. all the rain we were supposed to get Friday and Saturday is coming now...my yard is already flooded and there is a small river flowing on the sidewalk. well, I Am heading off, have a great day!

Shad 06-08-2008 05:11 PM

Morning all,
Happy birthday to her Maj as well. Holiday weekend here. It's obviously rained overnight so everything is damp and fresh this morning. After I have finished here, I'm going out to pull some more weeds for an hour or so and tidy up some of the yard which looks somewhat uncared for at the moment. I may even cut some more of the hedge (if I rack up some energy to get the ladder out of course.)

Not a lot to report today. Did very little yesterday apart from laundry and shopping. Absolutely nothing exciting at all. Very boring life I lead sometimes. But at least I haven't coughed at night this weekend, so I guess that's got to be a plus.

Madcat - yeah we crashed. Didn't know much about it myself - just that I couldn't get into back into the site to edit after I had posted. Probably my fault in that case  but the site had been acting funny for a couple of weeks. Glad to here you have had some downtime with the boy over the weekend. Do you guys get Queens Birthday over there still? Or have you done away with such sentiment to the crown. Here they keep on with it because they don't know what to call it if not Queen's birthday. Presidents day??? Doesn't have the same ring somehow. And he would be probably corrupt if we had one!
Best way to break anything is to stomp on the plug. Usually takes them a while to sort that one out.

Happy - the weeds have definitely re-awoken with a vengeance with the rains. Not fair!!!! But I will go out there, dig em up and hoe em out for while and then see if I can keep on top of them. Not easy when some of the seeds come from next door or over the back. But then again, I have neglected the garden and the only thing that will get it back is to get rid of the weeds before they seed or run or whatever.
Have fun with Mum before she goes.

MelHope Jen gets away safe and arrives safely. New 'van?? The old guy is splurging out - long may it last. And I hope he leaves them a bit of a pile for afterwards too!

Michelle - time to get back to the gym - or Happy and Annie will whinge again. I haven't been since I got home. I thought about going today but don't know whether they will be open over the public holiday. So I will do some gardening, go for a long walk and do some cleaning and tidying as well. That should fix it.

Ceejay - drive safe. Enjoy the weekend with the family.

I'll be back to check later

Ruthxxx 06-08-2008 05:26 PM

Whew! That was some jettison! The DB was corrupted, the nightly and weekly backups didn't work and we had to go back to the last monthly. Of course I had about 17 wonderfully witty posts that disappeared in here!

Just back from doing some testing for Thera Paws. Luckily we were in an air-conditioned facility and there were only four dogs. They all passed although I had my doubts about one wee Yorkie. He was overtrained in obedience and made eye contact only with his owner. Sort of sad when he is to be visiting nursing homes. You may as well take in a stuffed toy. However, he did pass all the tests so.....

We are just steaming in the heat and humidity. Right now I am pouring a G&T, changing into a loose caftan and going to loaf around on the deck with the Doggage. Disney continues to be a great addition to the family. She and Hersh did have an altercation over who got petted first the other day but it settled quickly and they are pals again.

Have a great weekend - or Monday in Shad's case.

ceejay52 06-08-2008 09:32 PM

Ruth
Glad the dogs are friends again. Are those peonies in your avatar? If so that is one my my favorite flowers. My grandmother grew those in her flower garden.

Mel
Don't you love those who knock at the door at 5.30 a.m.

Shad
Have you thought about weed eating in the flower beds? I've gotten lazy the past couple of years about doing any flower beds. To much work for me when I'm not at home all the time. My excuse this year is the neighbor's 2 year old. He tramples through every thing.

Ellen
Maybe the OB will have something to make you feel better

Mischelle
Let's both get back on track this week. I've just gone to the grocery store and have bought several things for next week. No soft drinks for me this week. It's decaf iced tea and water.

Happy
My bedroom looks better and it still needs to be vacuumed, at least I can see the floor. And there is clean sheets on the bed. My to do list is shorter but there is still more to do. UGH.

The trip to Paragould was short but sweet. Our three year old is getting over bronchitis. She has inherited allergies like her nanny.

To the rest Hello

MELODY525 06-09-2008 06:40 AM

MICHELLE...HANG ON TO THAT RESOLVE!! TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. THUNDER AND LIGHTNING ARE NOT COMPUTER FRIENDLY! :yikes:

SHAD...I THINK THE DAD BOUGHT THE BIGGER HOUSE TRAILER SO THE GF'S FAMILY COULD VISIT OVER THE SUMMER TOO! BEGINNING TO SEE THAT NOTHING HE DOES IS WITHOUT MORE THAN ONE REASON :rollpin: GOOD TO HEAR THE COUGH MIGHT JUST BE GONE FOR GOOD....FINGERS CROSSED!!
HOPE YOU HAD A HAPPY :queen: QUEEN'S BD :hb:

RUTH...WILL DISNEY BE A THERAPAWS ALSO? GLAD THEY ARE GETTING ALONG. POUR OUT THE G&T'S AND WE'LL ALL BE THERE! :beach: I WOULD LOVE ALL MY OLD POSTS TO DISAPPEAR!!

CEEJAY...TOO BAD ABOUT THE 3 YR OLD!! I SAW SO MANY KIDS IN THE ALLERGY CENTER WHEN I WENT. GLAD THE TRIP WAS GOOD.

:sunny: I WAS ALREADY OUTSIDE AND IT SMELLS TERRIBLE. 80* BY 6AM AND MUG CITY!! P.U.!!!!
FOR SURE I WON'T BE OUT TODAY. NOT TAKING ANY CHANCES WITH THE EYE CAUSE IT LOOKS A LOT BETTER. I T SEEMS TO BE DRAGGING IT'S BUT HEALING THO.
I WILL KEEP MY OTHER EYE ON IT  THANK GOD I AM STILL LAUGHING. MADE REPORTS TO GET THE HALL A/C FIXED. HOPEFULLY THE GUY CAN COME TODAY. IT'S GETTING PRETTY HOT WAITING FOR ELEVATORS OUT THERE. JUST GLAD MY A/C'S ARE RUNNING!!:brr:
OFF TO BREKKIE AND WISHING YOU ALL A GREAT DAY. HAPPY MONDAY :moped:

Ruthxxx 06-09-2008 07:13 AM

Ceejay, yes, that's a peony "tree" in my avatar. It blooms earlier than the herbaceous peonies but is not great this year. It suffered from being under snow mountain! The other peonies are just starting into bloom.

Mel, I hope you manage to stay cool today. It's terrible here so I can imagine what it's like in the city. Yes, I hope Disney will eventually be another Thera-Paws dog. She definitely has the personality for it and loves people. We start obedience training classes next Sunday as she needs to walk better on the lead at heel. I could do the training without classes but need the imposed structure of lessons and homework.

Upswife and Diyana, I hope you are safe from the floods and crud happening in the Midwest. Mother Nature seems really pissed off lately!

Shad, it's just about a year since we sat on the back deck and watched fireflies! It must be about time to see them again. We've had so much rain their little butt lights are probably washed out!

I still don't have my garden all planted. It'll either happen or it won't. I keep reminding myself that I can BUY veggies from local producers but do love my own fresh beans and tomatoes. Right now, it's so wet that I'm considering converting to rice! It's a good thing I have my flowers for enjoyment. Poppies and lupines are glorious right now.

ceejay52 06-09-2008 12:46 PM

I'm at work trying to catch up from the week end. Sure wish Matt would come and bring those parts we need.

More later.

happy2bme 06-09-2008 12:52 PM

Howdy peeps,

This site is still very slow to load for me. Nothing special going on here. So I'll just  and say hello.

Off to make tuna salad for lunch...

happy2bme 06-09-2008 12:57 PM

Shad - have you ever eaten fiddleheads?

diyana 06-09-2008 02:34 PM

What a Monday! Sheesh!

So I have to be at work extra early today to check reports, and DH is supposed to drive a company car to Michigan. So rather than leave his SUV at work for 3 days, I drive him to work. Only to find out that there was a change of plans at the last minute and someone else went to Michigan. Would've been nice if they would've told him.

Anyway, during the drive to his work, DH noticed that my clutch was slipping a little. So he said we should get that fixed ASAP. Of course, we haven't gotten our stimulus check yet, and this is a $700 expense that we didn't need and really can't afford. Luckily the repair place can work on my car tomorrow...so it will either be done late tomorrow or on Wednesday. So DH will have to drive me to work. What a pain in the :censored:.

The storms we had did major damage in Milwaukee. Thousands of people's basements flooded. Luckily we had no damage. Of course, I did get up on the ladder between rain storms and clean out the gutters AGAIN! We have 6 maple trees that were overloaded with spinners, helicopters, maple seeds...whatever you want to call them. So our gutters were completely clogged after all the storms we've had. I didn't mind doing the gutters...it's something active to do and given the choice I would ALWAYS rather do outside work than inside work. I hate cooking and cleaning - this chickie is NOT domestic at all (although I am a good cook...I just hate cooking).

Other than that....things are going okay. I'm going to work out tonight either at the gym or at home (depending on when we get back from dropping my car off, etc.). I need an endorphin fix really bad!

Ellen - I'm guess you didn't have any damage from the storms since you didn't mention it. That's good. I hope you're feeling better today.

Shad - I'm glad you're not coughing as much. Nothing more frustrating than being sick and needing rest but having coughing fits wake you up all night long. I will be working out tonight - hopefully at the gym. I could always work in the garden which is such a mess after the torrential rains. And the junk from the gutters is all over as I was hurrying to get it done before the next wave of thunderstorms started.

Ruth - How neat that you do testing for Thera Paws. I have a dog that would be pretty much perfect as a therapy dog. I need to get him signed up for Canine Good Citizen testing first though. I'm glad to hear that the Disney and Hershey are getting along well. Your peony avatar is just lovely. My peonies have buds but haven't bloomed yet. Your poppies and lupines are gorgeous too! We haven't seen fireflies here yet. I hope they show up. I just love watching their light show.

CeeJay - I'm with you. I will definitely get on track this week. I'm glad you had a nice trip to Paragould.

Mel - I'm definitely holding on to the resolve. Sorry that you're having the hot and muggy weather too. We definitely have had our share of it since Thursday....and the storms didn't ease the humidity one bit (until today that is). I'm glad your eye is doing better.

Happy - I hope your tuna salad was yummy and that you and Mom are enjoying the day together!

Love and big  to you all!

annie175 06-09-2008 03:23 PM

Ahhhhh, I found you all. A tisket a tasket, I think I lost my basket.....

Indiana was hit awfully hard with storms also Diyana. We have major roads closed, damaged, people cannot get off their own street and out of their neighborhoods. It is awful, luckily me and my house are safe.

Dave, old bf, is coming to my house on the 13th and stay the weekend. I am a bit nervous, but all should be just fine.

I didn't sleep a wink last night, as I drank way too much iced tea. Hopefully I can get some sleep tonight. Bella even kept growling at me to lay still as I was disturbing her. haha.

My bathroom sink had a leak. Well I took apart the sink and to get hair out and thought I had it back together, NOT. It leaked for two weeks. Fortunately, I had a longenberger basket with a plastic liner under the sink with lotions etc in it, and it filled the basket up with water. So it could of been a lot worse. My brother came over and fixed it. He said I "almost" had it back together right, but not quite.

I am glad the thread is back, I thought may someone really did jettison off with it.

Have a great evening.

Love and Hugs

Hello Ladies,

Taking care of a sick dog is very tiresome... BUT I think we're on the upswing now. The hard part is making him eat slow... ya right... so I have to basically hand feed him or he gulps it down. (Wonder where he gets that from??))

Needless to say, I have been off track with my eating and the girls I workout with were on vacation thurs through today, SO I didn't go either...

Back on track tomorrow.

I'll come back later and post more...

Shy Moment 06-09-2008 07:43 PM

1day
When life gets in the way we just have to get back on track. Glad the dog is doing better.

annie
Think DECAF lol.

di
Hope your check comes real soon. Think of cooking and cleaning as camping. Pretend you are cooking on an open fire and you have to clean up or the bears will eat everyone lol.

Happy
Hello, glad you had a nice time with your mom

Ruth
Pretty flowers

Melody
You stay cool lol.

cee
Glad the little one is getting better.

Shad
It is hot out there, be careful and don't do to much at one time.

Been in the 90's here in Ohio for a few days. Just beautiful outside. Yes, hot but it could be -12 so who is going to complain lol. Still trying to get things done around here that I haven't gotten done. House is clean, laundry is done. I never seen to get all the windows cleaned at one time. I need to get rid of some of these windows lol. Bella is doing great and Winkie doesn't want to eat her every time she walks by lol.

Afternoon ladies,

I am enjoying my last day with Mom. She took a shine to one of my t-shirts and even though it's a favorite of mine, I figured - what the heck - it's only a shirt and heaven knows I have LOTS of them. Years ago I literally gave her the shirt off my back when she was just enchanted by a nothing special workout shirt I picked up and she still wears it. It's her favorite shirt and her lady friend said that when Mom gets tired of it, F wants it. Now over the years I've bought Mom lots and lots of shirts and sweaters but just like an infant who for whatever reason decides that "this" is their special toy or blanket - you never know what someone will like. I brought my dad a hooded sweatshirt that said San Francisco after a business trip. He wore that thing to shreads. When I went out there again, I picked up another shirt - same style but a different color. When I saw him with the tattered one I asked him why he didn't wear the new one. "Sweetie, it's just because I love this one so much".

Patty - taking care of a sick anything is hard. Hope Blackie is doing better - hang in there.

Annie - was wondering where you were. Did the basket get ruined? I guess better the basket than the cabinet although some of those Longenberger's can be real collectors items. Those sink leaks can be nasty though. I think when Dave comes over, make sure you have your friend Louis within easy reach (as in Louisville Slugger :rollpin: ) just in case he needs some persuading which I'm sure he'll be the perfect gentleman.

Michelle - ouch on the car repairs!! Always something, isn't it? Bummer too as I bet you had other plans for the stimulus money. I hope it's not too pricy. And gosh get out the waders. I can't believe how much rain you had. I heard they closed Milwaukee airport because of the flooding. I was looking at the radar yesterday and there was just this huge mass of red storms on the radar descending down on you. What has happened to the weather - geez louise!!!! I'm glad you didn't have any damage yourself. And after always wanting trees and now living in a very mature wooded area with lots of leaf/gumball/helicopter/seedpod/pine needles/broken sticks ALWAYS falling and needing clean up, I'm thinking the next place will have maybe one oak tree  I feel for you cleaning the gutters out. We have those leaf covers which are a wonderous invention. Stay dry and safe!

Did you get those parts you needed Ceejay?

Peony bushes are gorgeous Ruth but I don't like them because they are super ant attractors. I'll take hydrangeas instead thank you.

Shad - I'm feeling puffy - please get back to the gym  thank you very kindly

Mel - I'm glad it's quiet for you. Good thinking on staying inside to protect the eyes. If it's stinky outside, you know the air quality can't be that good. I remember traveling to Los Angeles in the 80's where you could see the layer of brown yuk polution in the sky. Ick. Here we have the occasional smell of horse pastures

I hear you on the windows Shy - just one in each direction should be good enough

Timer went off - gotta get supper on. Later chicks.

Shad 06-09-2008 09:12 PM

Morning all,
Quick note and then back to work. It's raining again - getting completely tired of that now. However it is not as bad as the weather in Wisconsin or where you lot are having floods at this time.

Happy - Fiddleheads - known in NZ as Piko Piko, and no I haven't eaten them. They have only come on the market in the last couple of years. I believe you can only eat them at certain times of the year. That means they are probably expensive.

Ruth - the G&T's sound like a darned good idea and not just because of the heat. I'm having problems getting things to work at the office as well and we seem to be having the odd problem with the wireless internet. Bummer. Certainly was a decent jettison. We all seemed to be having problems of differing natures - mine was that I couldn't see the posts in the Advanced posting section. Happy was getting slow response time. Etc. It probably all related to the problems the site was experiencing.
I was just thinking yesterday that it is exactly a year since I left Mel's place and went to Toronto. What a great trip that was. Sad that the fireflies have been temporarily suspended from a neat performance. The garden will grow. Mother Nature is just having a bit of a hissy fit, that's all. Just look at what she did to China and Burma. We should however consider it a warning.
Glad to hear that Disney and Hershey have come to the alpha dog understanding. Pity the same thing does not work in the human world huh!

Michelle - went to the gym this morning. Did a cardio workout. Thought about you lot while I was there. Glad to hear you didn't have any problems with the weather. Feel very sorry for those who did though.

Annie - glad to see you found us at last. Hope the weekend with the b/f goes well. Have you told the family about this yet?

Morning Ceejay

Pattie - glad to hear the dog is eating again. Don't know how one teaches a dog to eat slowly unless you only give them small amounts at a time. Can imagine it would take up plenty of your time.

Rennie - I never manage to get all the panes in one window done at a time before I get real bored and give up and then see all the streaks and smears on the ones I have done. It was much easier when one did them with the pressure hose.

Mel - stay in if it is stinky out there. That haze is something awful. I well remember it from when I was with you. Saw the same brown haze on the horizon in LA as Happy saw, and again in NY and Newark. The air quality must be a constant source of distress to a lot of people.

Happy - I went to the gym - see above, so stop the puffy puffing. Enjoy the day with Mum and get on with the work.

And speaking of which, I'd better go do some. I'm way behind.

Shy Moment 06-09-2008 09:42 PM

Shad
These are all real easy ( except for the ones in my bedroom, hall and bathroom ), they are all those replacement windows that you can tip in or take all the way out to clean. The problem is the sills get dirty real easy and need cleaned at least once a week. I just can never get myself to find the time to do them at least once a week when I am trying to scrub ceilings and walls.

Happy
At least only one in each room and a window doesn't have to be 6 foot wide and 4 foot tall all over the darn house lol. I have 7 of these darn things and other 7 that are regular size and then bay windows and windows over doors and oh my gosh. The people that put all these windows in should have to come and clean the things a few times a month lol. Isn't it funny what people like. I have a t shirt that is in tatters and 6 sizes to big for me. I still wear that t shirt at night when I cuddle up to read a book.

happy2bme 06-10-2008 12:19 AM

I have those large floor to ceiling windows all over my house too. 33 of them last count I think. I find that window blinds hide them quite nicely  I hate doing windows - not for cleaning them but for trying to get out those stupid streaks.

It's storming here. Mom is concerned that the flooding in Milwaukee will affect her flight. I tried to reassure her she will be ok. We are both saying novenas (prayers) tho she is a bit panicky that she seems to have lost her favorite Jesus necklace. She pretends it's nothing but I know better. I have searched this house and called to him but if he's hiding, he's doing a very fine job. I just hope she doesn't fret too much - 81 year olds fret alot.

We had the most marvelous time tonight. Watched some TV - an amazing adventure show on the learning channel as well as some silly summer replacement show full of videos of people doing silly things and falling down in the process. I don't know how it came up but Mom said that my BIL is not fond of her frequent use of the word sh*t. (I apologize ahead of time if I offend anyone - then read no further...) Mom and I happen to think that is an all purpose word that covers a gamut of emotions - surprise, anger, disgust, kidding around. So to prove that I got some of my bizarre sense of humor from her, we started making a running commentary to the television show all using phrases with the 4 letter word in it. We nearly fell on the floor laughing several times and we had tears in our eyes and narrowly escaped some accidents. You may feel this is most unbecoming of 2 grown women - particularly genteel southern women but my excuse is that I am a brawling south (read "sout") side Chicagoan at heart who is prim and proper when I need to be and rolling in the aisles with my family when I can do so. The laughter was soooo good for the soul. DH and I laugh but Mom and I were especially goofy this week. I'm going to miss her. But both DH and I are chipping away at the resolve for her to stay put in her own home. I even told her I'll take out one of the windows in the master suite downstairs and put in a door to the outside if she felt she needed her own entrance

Hard to believe that a year has come and gone already Shad. Seems like just last month we were enjoying that porch music, having panic attacks in the caves and selecting fireplace grates. It was great fun. If we move to the Nashville area next time we'll make you a country and western star :encore: Thank you for getting in a workout for me - I feel better but I think you could have pushed it a bit more, don't you? :s: :lol3:

And despite the loud claps of thunder, I have to hit the hay - we're getting up quite early to get to the airport tomorrow. I probably won't be posting in the morning.

Shy Moment 06-10-2008 12:28 AM

happy
Ammonia is great stuff. Ammonia and news papers. You get a clean real quickly with no streaks. I love the old floor to ceiling windows. I have always thought those were so great. These are stupid they are real wide. Who needs two huge windows in a spar bedroom lol. I am glad you had a wonderful time with your mother. She sure doesn't need to get upset about things at her age. This should be a time in life for her that is stress free.

happy2bme 06-10-2008 12:50 AM

Shy - I have tried ammonia, newspapers, plain newsprint, Windex, vinegar, Dawn dish detergent (for a streak free shine), dish washer detergent. Various products, towels and devices. I am fully convinced that some windows just like to streak. The best thing I have found is a squeegee but I have those windows that are divided into tiny little squares which makes using a squeegee a real adventure. I have decided life is too short to fuss over perfect windows so I have cleaned them as good as I can, donned my purple hat, took my dessert fork (both references to some very wise essays) and went in search of getting excited about my life :D

Shad 06-10-2008 03:43 AM

Really sorry, I'm going back tomorrow and I will put an extra kilo or two on the bar.

Really the cheek of the woman. Give her 15 mins on the bike, 15 on the eliptical and 15 on the treadie, plus a free weight workout and she wants more!!!!!

annie175 06-10-2008 08:06 AM

Hey hey hey Worldly Chickies....

Great day for ducks around here. Supposed to stop raining until at least Tuesday. Hoorah!!

1 Day...glad to hear doggie is on the mend, slowly but surely. Get back on track girlie.

Rennie..Enjoy the weather, this Indiana stuff is on it's way to you.

Happy...The basket was not ruined. The plastic liner caught most of the water and saved the day.

Shad...the kids know about Dave. My older brother also knows.

Went to bed at 6 pm last night and didn't wake up till 5 this morning. Making up for the night before I guess.

Hello to everyone.

Love and hugs

happy2bme 06-10-2008 09:16 AM

Cheeky old :censored: aren't I? ;)

diyana 06-10-2008 09:29 AM

Hey ladies -

Mother Nature definitely reigns supreme in Wisconsin. Yesterday, a popular tourism lake in Wisconsin Dells, Lake Delton, breached its banks, took out a road and five super expensive lake front homes and is now a mud hole. Many people in Milwaukee and surrounding suburbs had waist high flooding in their basement. Our subdivision is atop a gravel hill, so we are dry.

Annie - I'm glad you and your family and house are safe. How exciting that Dave is coming to stay the weekend. Glad to hear your bathroom sink is fixed.

Patty - I'm glad to hear that Blackie is eating! I can imagine your relief. It's back on track for you (and for me). :)

Rennie - Speaking of bears, my DMIL left a box of cookies in her room....and one of my doggies found it and ate nearly the whole thing. I asked her why she didn't just leave them in the cupboard in the kitchen...she said she likes them as late night snacks. So I said, would you leave food in your tent if you were camping in bear country? Think of our dogs as bears! They will sniff out food and eat it. Not sure that camping analogy would get me to enjoy cooking and cleaning. And hey, since your house is clean, want to come do mine?

Happy - That's a sweet story about your mom and the shirts. I give my DMIL shirts too when she finds one of mine that she likes. I also gave her a coat of mine that was a fall coat for Wisconsin but a perfect winter coat for California. The car repairs will be between $700 and $750. We were going to get gutter covers or pay off some credit cards with the stimulus money. Oh well. I really wish my website side jobs would pick up. It's been a slow year or so. After DMIL leaves, I may look for a second job at a Petco. As you said, at least we are dry, safe and the house is in good shape. A lot of folks are a lot worse off. You mentioned pollution...in Silicon Valley, California, the air is always brownish haze and really messes with my asthma whenever I go there. Funny that here, I forget I even have asthma as it hardly ever acts up. My DMIL always loves coming to Wisconsin to see our gorgeous blue sky and breathe the clean fresh air. I think your mom will be able to get home fine. Most of the areas are cleaned up from the flooding, except the Dells (Lake Delton) and Waukesha. I didn't hear about too much flooding in Illiniois. I too use the word sh*t a lot...I also use crap for when I'm at work. Glad you and your mom had such a laughing good time. I sure hope she will come live with you soon. You two have such a grand time together. My DMIL and I worked on a puzzle last night. I didn't help much....but I enjoy spending time with her as you do with your mom.

Shad - Good for you for getting to the gym. I took a walk yesterday after work, which felt good. Today after work I'm going Miniature Golfing with co-workers as a team building event. Should be fun. I'll walk at lunch if it's not raining.

Mel - I agree with the rest of the ladies...stay in if it smells outside. That can't be good. I heard on the weather that you're getting the storms we had. Be careful. And I hope you stay safe and dry.

I've got a very busy day ahead so I must get going!

Love and  to all!

Shy Moment 06-10-2008 01:09 PM

Annie
We had about 10 min of down poor a few min ago and that was it. Now we have heat and high humidity again lol.

di
If I come and clean your house will you come and put up with my kids today. I am just in no mood to put up with them fighting with each other lol. There has NEVER been food allowed out of the kitchen or dinning room. They have enough food in their rooms to open a store lol.

diyana 06-10-2008 01:37 PM

Rennie - It's a deal. I'll bring my dogs over to tire your kids out so they're too exhausted to fight and you come clean my house. I have no problem with my DMIL eating snacks or whatever in her room, but I know my doggies well enough to know that they will FIND food. No matter how well the food is hidden, they will hunt it down, and eat it all. Just like me. :o

diyana 06-10-2008 01:39 PM

I forgot to mention....I just got back from an hour long brisk walk! I walked about 4 miles, and I feel great! I'm still down in the dumps a bit about finances, but it's amazing how well a bit of sweat lifts my mood.
