Afternoon My Friends..........

We only got 5 inches of snow at my house. Other parts of the state got anywhere from 6-15 inches. So very lucky. Poor Ohio got his hard. Rennie you got his pretty hard.

I went to a breast cancer awareness brunch this morning at the Marriott North Indy. The speaker was Robin Roberts of Good Morning America. She is so inspirational and awesome. I truly admire her. She is so genuine. I got to shake her hand and a hug. It is amazing how a hug can make your day so much better. My momma is a breast cancer suvivor. She is 16 years out and doing fine with that. I think I may get Robin Robert's book that came out last spring.

I feel so blessed in my life and to have you all as support means so much to me. Yes I am freakishly emotional today. One woman in the audience said she was a nurse at Community Hospital in Anderson Indiana, and was dubbed the "singing nurse" Robin Roberts asked her to sing something, so she sang How Great Thou Art. It was so beautiful, and such a lovely voice. Everyone in the place was teary eyed.

Samantha, my DD has her surgery on Monday, please include her in your prayers. She is about to lose another 1/3 of her cervix, leaving one third.

Hello to everyone.

Love and Hugs

annie
So far at least 20 inches lol. I broke a piece on the snow blower that holds the cord inside after the first 16 inches. Have had to shovel the other inches by hand. Wouldn't be so bad if my drive wasn't at least 200 feet long and parts of it as wide a a three car garage lol. AND IT IS STILL SNOWING LOL. Going to be to dark soon to shovel snow. Glad you are feeling well and doing well today. Why don't they just take all the cervix out?

upswife 03-08-2008 11:29 PM

Good evening/morning ladies!!! So we are almost done with the floor. Had to drop the kiddies off at grandma's this afternoon, they were getting antsy. only a small portion of the floor needs to get done, yay. Also Dh and I decided to pull out the floor molding and get new ones, so I will have some staining in my future. (they had 3 different kinds on the walls) MAy not post again until Monday.

Very cold here, had some snow, but very little accumulation. Hope it stays that way...hoping for a warm up soon.

Annie~will be praying for your DD. hope things turn out ok for her this time.

Later chicas!

Howdy chicks,

Today (this Sunday) is my least favorite day - turning the clocks ahead and losing an hour of an already time crunched weekend. On the other hand, my favorite day is 6 months away -when we gain an extra hour and have a 25 hour day.

We got 5 inches of the fluffy stuff today. I took pictures with my cell phone but for some reason it didn't want to transmit the pictures. It was a winterwonderland last night (well except on the roads where there were over 70 accidents from the bimbos and bozos who have no concept of SLOW DOWN when the weather gets a bit fiesty). The sun came out in full force today and by the afternoon it mostly had all melted. What didn't get done today will be gone by tomorrow.

We did our cat petting today. Poor kitties. Many of them stuck their paws out of the cage and tried to reach out to us as if to say "me, me - don't forget about me". DH and I got to darn near all of them. Some of them did not want to be held and cuddled but they sure enjoyed a head scratching and one of my special "kitty massages".

We were not able to pick out our door today. Apparently the door man's wife was in an accident with a truck this morning. She is banged up but not seriously injured thank goodness. DH took a look at the work order and thought it looked like it was around $5,000. That is substantially more than we were told at first, particularly since this is a fiberglass and not a wood door. We will head back to the store tomorrow to pick out something less expensive.

Caught up on the goings on with the family via my mom and sister tonight. My niece is having surgery like your DD Annie. Prayers and good wishes for both of them.

Rennie - I don't envy you all that snow. Just be careful walking, driving, shovelling.

Annie - the best mentor/manager I ever had in my life hailed from Anderson, Indiana. If only we could get him to talk faster, he said he was slow and thoughtful ... Those emotional days are good for the soul, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Shad, I think it's quite amazing that your orchids are blooming again. We were led to believe they were delicate flowers but I'm starting to think otherwise.

Mel, I'm glad you got to talk to Miss Linda. How cool that must have been. Did they have the book available in larger print?

Well it's 1am - and since I will lose an hour of sleep I really should scoot off to bed now. DH wants to start taking daily walks. I have some laundry and all the meal planning and grocery shopping to do as well as some house cleaning tasks. And if I have a few hours I could tackle some extra work I brought home from the office. Life is too busy, slow the merry-go-round down, will you? ;)

Might not get back here tomorrow. to the Worldly Chicks.

happy2bme 03-09-2008 01:56 AM

Ceejay - keep forgetting to tell you that it was nice of you to post your picture from newspaper a while back. It was a bit washed out but we have at least verified that you indeed belong to our little club of short, but mighty women

Shy Moment 03-09-2008 03:35 AM

Happy
I took it easy on the shoveling. I don't walk in the stuff if I don't have to and I am not a nut. I do not go out in bad weather unless it is really necessary. Thanks

MELODY525 03-09-2008 08:57 AM

ANNIE~ GREAT STORY ABOUT MOM :encore: SENDING GOOD THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS TO YOUR DAUGHTER.
I AM GLAD YOU GOT TO MEET ROBIN. THEY SAY SHE IS A WONDERFUL PERSON. HUGS LIKE THAT ARE PRICELESS. HANG IN THERE

ELLEN~ GOOD LUCK WITH THE FLOOR MOLDING AND THINK OF ALL THAT EXERCISE!

RENNIE~ SO NOW YOU'RE HOARDING ALL THE SNOW AND THE LITTLE PEEPS??? Hmmmmmm... SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS!! AND TALK ABOUT SHOVELING EXERCISE! :faint:

HAPPY~ NO THERE IS NO LARGE PRINT. I THINK SHE RUNS A VERY SMALL ONE WOMAN COTTAGE INDUSTRY. DOES THE POSTING OF THE BOOKS HERSELF. I WAS IMPRESSED WITH HER JUST FOR THE FEW MOMENTS WHILE SHE FILLED THE ORDER. DON'T WORK TOO HARD. SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THE DOOR PRICE :yikes:
AND I HOPE YOU BOTH FIOND ONE YOU LIKE!!

CEEJAY~ I HOPE YOU DID NOT GET SNOWED IN! :brr:
I DID SAY THANKS FOR SHARING THE PICTURE LAST MONTH...RIGHT?? LITTLE CUTIE IN THE CENTER!! :belly:

LAST NIGHTS WINDS NEAR TORE THE SCREENS OFF THE WINDOWS AGAIN. THE SPEED OF THE WINDS THESE LAST 2 YEARS HAS REALLY CHANGED. LIKE HURRICANE ALLEY HERE. THE FOG YESTERDAY ROLLED IN LIKE WE WERE ON THE COAST OF THE BRITISH ISLES. ALL I COULD THINK OF WAS THE POOR DRIVERS OUT THERE. IT WAS LIKE ONE OF THOSE OLD SHERLOCK HOLMES MOVIES. LOVELY SUN TODAY AND WATCHING THE NEWS THIS MORNING MADE ME THINK I BETTER STOP WISHING FOR SNOW....SOME PLACE HAD OVER 200 ACCIDENTS! :faint: NOT A LOT TO DO TODAY. JUST THE ACCOUNTANTS AND THE REST OF THE DAY IS MINE.
MAYBE WRITE OUT THE BILLS AND GET MORE LAUNDRY READY FOR TOMORROW. CHANGE THE SHEETS TOO. I FORGOT YESTERDAY. FUNNY HOW WE KEEP SOME OLD PATTERNS. MY GRAM CHANGED THE SHEETS EVERY SATURDAY MORNING. WE ALWAYS TOOK OUR "SATURDAY NIGHT BATH", WENT TO BED ON CLEAN SHEETS AND GOT UP FOR CHURCH THE NEXT MORNING.
AHHHHH....THE GOOD OLDE DAYS!

HAPPY SUNDAY/MONDAY :moped:

Oy! If you want snow, come up here. We got over 20" plus massive drifting. The Ontario cops were dealing with one accident every minute yesterday. This morning I couldn't get two doors open because of drifts - outside, sillies! I shovelled out the deck door before bed last night so Hersh was able to get out for potty but she had a problem going down the steps to the yard as they were under a massive drift. She sort of swam through. What a good dog!

In a few minutes, I am going to put on the knee brace and do a bit of clearing of the side and back doors. The lane has been done with the big machine but the walks and steps need to be done. I'll take it easy and do it in stages. Right now there is a pile of snow beside the barn that is up to the second storey. It's going to be some melt eventually.

Hershey and I spent a very lazy Saturday. I must confess that I stayed in my robe all day. I read, made some baked beans, dabbled at TV and watched the storm reports. Today I have to get in gear a bit more and may even do a short session on the treadmill if the knee cooperates.

Stay safe, warm and dry. It ain't over yet, Chickies!

ceejay52 03-09-2008 10:46 AM

Good morning chicks.

Happy
I always get these spring forwards and fall backs confused. Hopefully this snow will get rid of some of he germs in the air.

Ruth
Take it easy doing outside stuff today.

Mel
No didn't get snowed in. We got around 4 inches of snow. Most of it left yesterday. Streets were clear by 10.30 a.m. My neighbors made a small snowman. The mother was having a snowball fight with her 2 year old little boy. He's got a preety good arm. He was hitting back. They were enjoying the snow.

Hello to he rest. I'm at work so I'd better get busy.

happy2bme 03-09-2008 11:11 AM

Good morning ladies,

Wakey, wakey - it's later than you think! At least now it will be lighter in the evening - don't have to worry about getting stuck in the dark at work if I have to stay late.

It's a bright sunny day, will warm up by the afternoon - all the snow should be gone. Wish I could say the same for you northern folks - guess you have to find a way to enjoy it.

Lot's to do today so I'd better get busy. Have a good day everyone. :D

We are all dug out. Enjoying a beautiful wintry Sunday. Very happy not to going to work in this.

HUGS!!!

Ruthxxx 03-09-2008 01:41 PM

Not completely dug out yet but Rob and John are working on it. They are such sweeties and told me to just stay inside while they do it. I'm whipping up some muffins right now so we can have tea and treats afterwards.

There is sure one heck of a lot of snow here. Hollyhock, I need to dig out my camera - I think I just MAY have more snow than you do. The pile beside the barn is up to the loft window and I can't see out to the meadow. I sure hope it melts slowly when it finally happens.

This is starting to feel like an afternoon nap sort of day once the lads leave.

Hollyhock 03-09-2008 02:10 PM

Ruth- we had rain last Monday that melted all the previous snow. We got about 18 in all together. We missed the snow Friday night too. HUGS!!!

Hello Ladies,

So much as been going on this last two weeks... We'll my brother found a lump (tumor) in his neck and that needed to be taken out. It was taken out this past thursday in Houston. He lives in Austin... My mother and I went to Houston to be with him and his family during the surgery and for some of his recovery. It's really hard to be on track when your staying in a hotel. And of course, I'm a stress eater. The surgery went fine and now we're just praying for good results.... (Prayers needed here)..

Needless to say, this last two weeks I have eaten really bad and haven't exercised... Tomorrow getting back on track though.

Hope everyone is doing ok and I will post more later...

OH.... A big hello to my old friend MichelleZ...I'm so glad your back....

happy2bme 03-10-2008 12:13 AM

Hi ladies,

Going to try and post now so I can get out of the house earlier in the morning. The only issue is that this site seems to slow down quite a bit late at night. :(

Today is my most unfavorite day of the year. I am missing the hour we lost today :tantrum: DH was most insistent that we start going for walks on a regular basis - starting TODAY. I really didn't have the time but I didn't want to make excuses either so I strapped on my uncomfortable sneakers and out we went for 35 minutes. It was a nice day, I was quite warm with just a turtleneck pullover and a light sweater. DH was just in a t-shirt. Mind you there are still traces of snow on the ground. We passed one woman who said she was dressed for Alaska and we were dressed for Florida (by then I had my sleeves pushed up as far as they would go). She wanted to know how it was possible we were both walking on the same street. One of the nice things about walking the neighborhood is sometimes actually seeing someone who lives here. Our street is a ghosttown typically.

Then for making me walk with him, I punished DH by making him go grocery shopping with me. We both hate shopping. Actually it worked out, he suffered but did get to pick out his own lunches and some ideas for dinner which actually helped me out and I spent less money because he is horridly impatient in the store and we have to get in, pick up stuff fast and get out. No browsing with this guy. If I stopped to look at something - he'd say - we don't need that, let's go. We came home and grilled steaks which were yummy. We split a baked potato and I made a big salad. Back to eating clean.

Patty - I'm sorry to hear about your brother. Healing prayers will be sent to him. As for going off plan, well sometimes that happens. The important thing is to get back on track again now. You are back in control of things again.

Ruth - don't go getting any ideas about hauling out the toboggan. Just keep thinking those cuddly thoughts in your robe. ;)

Nice pictures Holly. Sure is pretty out in the country.

Ceejay - I don't know if it stayed cold long enough to kill off any germs. I hope the snow doesn't freeze the daffodils that just started blooming.

Wow Mel - I hope the gusty winds didn't blow you down! Batton down the hatches there matey  Ah your comment about Saturday baths and fresh sheets reminded me of being a kid. We took baths more than once a week but always on Saturday when mom changed the bedding. I LOVE the smell of clean bed linens, especially if they've been hung outside and smell of fresh air - always a good sleep on those. :cloud9:

Sounds like the floors are coming along nicely Ellen. Matching woodwork will look so nice!

Where's Shad - oh yeah, didn't she say she was headed out for a trip on the coast or something? Enjoy the autumn weather.

Time for this chick to pack it in for the night. Hellos to Shaker, Painter, Madcat, Carla, Rennie and Michelle and anyone else I'm sorry if I missed.

Sweet dreams to all...

happy2bme 03-10-2008 08:37 AM

:coffee: oh boy - everyone must be sleeping in this morning. Although it's nice to have it lighter later in the evening, it sure was hard getting out of bed in the cold and dark - that is, unless you're one of those freakishly happy early morning risers :spin:

Just thought I would pop in and spread my good mornings before I knuckled down on the reports and charts and things that make my job fun. :comp:

Have a good Monday all!

Oh and I weighed in down 2 pounds this morning. Maybe there is something to DH's urgent need to get out there and walk :dancer: I must admit, getting the exercise in is probably my greatest challenge.

upswife 03-10-2008 09:36 AM

Morning ladies! The floor is all laid down!! Yay, have to work on the moldings, and the threashholds, but will be done soon. I have the stain for the moldings, and will work on them later today. Recouperating today from all the work this weekend, but will try to get a few things done. Have to run back to home deopt for a few things, and to look into rening a small power tool, as I don't want to buy it. Hope everyone has a good day, and I will be back later to do indies!!!

Roseblush 03-10-2008 09:42 AM

Good Morning Worldly Chicks,
Hope everyone is adjusting to the new time..... so dark again in the morning. Well, my car did a number on me and is costing me some of my reitirement money to fix..... it is my luck with rigs...oh well. I am still trying to do my treadmill and eat two meals with one shake a day.... I walked jogged to work for a couple of days that was refreshing.
I need some good thoughts and prayers for my son////he has been doing so well and had an incident with drinking and driving last week...it is so sad it is breaking my heart..... this too will pass but a mother's heart is sometimes just not ready for such news.
My house is still locked in lots of snow compared to the houses just below me..... the deer are still staying away but I have lots of birdies I am feeding.
I do hope this finds eveyone well and working to take it off
Peace,
Nae

diyana 03-10-2008 10:20 AM

Good Morning Ladies --

I went to the gym yesterday and did an hour of cardio. My hand/wrist is feeling a little better, but boy if I move it wrong...ouch! I'm planningon going to the gym tonight for a 1/2 hour step class and a 1/2 hour weights class. I happened to turn on the Weather Channel and they were showing West Virginia freeways that were like skating rinks! Cars sliding all around! Yikes! What a dangerous mess! Sounds like there were lots of car accidents all over the country due to the weather! Yuck! I was busy all weekend. On Saturday, I helped my best friend pack as she is moving to Florida at the end of this week. And Sunday, we ran errands and then I came home and cleared out our bedroom closet. Two bags of clothes and shoes to go to charity, and two big storage boxes of clothes that are a little too small (but they'll fit in another 2 or 3 months).

Rennie - 16" of snow! That's good that you love it. It is pretty, just lots of work to shovel (you have a great attitude about it!) and makes driving difficult sometimes. And it's awful when the snowblower breaks before the snow stops! Hopefully spring will get here soon.

Ruth - 20" of snow! Wow!! My goodness! I'm so glad we didn't get hit with that storm. I normally don't mind the snow...but this winter has been so snowy and cold...I'm very ready for spring.

CeeJay - Glad you're enjoying the snow you got.

Happy - You got snow too! 5"? Wow!! I can't believe the snow went so far south! I hate bozos that don't know how to drive when the roads are slippery! 70+ accidents! Yikes! It's so sweet of you to do volunteer cat petting! Those kitties (and puppies) really deserve extra love - much more than they are able to get from the busy staff. I smiled when you mentioned your kitty massages, and I do doggie massages (I think) and want to eventually be formally trained in the Tellington Touch - which is a massage/acupressure type thing that is suppposed to help dogs and cats overcome illnesses and behavior problems. My thoughts and healing prayers go to your niece. Sorry to hear that the door price was so expensive! Sheesh! I've never priced doors, but I never thought they'd be that much! Wishing her a successful surgery and a speedy and complete recovery. Good for you and DH for getting out for a walk. The roads are a bit slick still, otherwise I'd walk outside. For right now, the gym is a better choice for me. You should get some comfortable sneakers to make your walking more enjoyable. Congrats on the 2 lb weight loss! Woooo Hoooo! Another thing your DH and my DH have in common, he is also incredibly inpatient when shopping (unless we're at the Home Depot or something - LOL).

Shad - I can just picture how beautiful your garden is. Roses, orchids... Lovely!!

Mel - Sounds like you had a great party! What a surprise!! Congrats on getting debt free soon! My DH and I are working toward that. Luckily, our tax refund will make a little dent in our debt. I know what you mean about the generosity of friends! It's incredible! A few years ago, both of my parents had Stage 4 cancer and had just months to live. My mom lived in Southern California and my dad in Northern California. My co-workers pitched in and raised enough money to buy me two round trip plane tickets so I could see them one last time before they passed. I wouldn't have been able to afford it otherwise. It was such a wonderful surprise and such a very special gift for both me and my parents. I will forever be grateful to my former co-workers for their generosity. That's cool that you bought the 100 days and Life is hard food is easy books. I'm going to have to look into those. They sound very beneficial. As for being a victim of past poor food and exercise (lack of) choices. I REALLY don't like using the victim word, but I can say that I am working on correcting health issues that resulted from poor food and lack of exercise choices.

Annie - My thoughts and healing prayers are with your DD as she has her surgery. Wishing her a speedy and complete recovery.

Ellen - Congrats on finishing the floor! I'll bet it looks great!

Holly - Thanks for posting the beautiful snow photos!!

Patty - So glad you posted even with as busy as you are. My thoughts and healing prayers are with your brother and family. And with all the stress you've been under, cut yourself some slack from going temporarily off program. You're getting back on track now, which is what is important. I've missed you too, Patty.

Nae - Sorry to hear about your car expenses. And my thoughts and prayers are with you and your son.

Gotta sign off for now. Very busy day today! Hello to anyone I may have missed! Here's to the a great day and great week for all of us!

di
Last count we had 22 inches of snow. It stopped the drive is clear. We now have heavy Charlie brown snow coming down lol. Sounds like you had a busy weekend. I don't understand people. We get snow every year you would think they would know how to drive on it. I never worry about my driving, it is the darn nuts that don't understand slow down and pay attention that scare the heck out of me lol.

Rose
Sorry to hear about your rough times. We never have enough money when things like this come up. Kids, you know, we try to raise them right. We give the advice we can from our years of experience. That is all we can do.

Happy
I think it is great you and hubby walking together. Time just for the both of you.

1day
Will sure keep everyone in my prayers. It is hard to eat right when you are out but remember just do your best and that is all you can do.

Ruth
Glad to see the knee is still getting better. Yes, we too had to dig out the patio and make a little path for pepper. She isn't happy she can't patrol the whole back yard. Snow is up to my knees out there.

Melody
My son told me not to go out into the back yard unless he ties a rope to me. I said why not. He said as short as I am I will get lost in the snow. I am going to have to do something about that child lol. My peeps are safe since you can't get to them through all the snow lol.

A lazy day here
I have NOTHING to do. No baking no cleaning no laundry. Everything is done. I just don't know what to do with myself.

happy2bme 03-10-2008 02:16 PM

Rennie - please come to my house. I have enough to keep all the worldly chicks busy. I vow to catch up some day before I take my last breath

Mel - I caught up with Mr. Mailman this morning and asked him to take special care with my package to you. He looked very grumpy. I hope he didn't take it down the road and do the frisbee toss :yikes: I would say you'll be getting a rather large envelope by Thursday. Good luck trying to get it opened as I had a difficult time stuffing it.

ceejay52 03-10-2008 05:30 PM

Stopping in to say hello---

upswife 03-10-2008 05:33 PM

rennie~always welcome to come here...in fact I need to go put a load of laundry on right now. Ran to the store for (hopefully) the last time. I keep forgetting things for these projects, so I have to keep running back. Put the fist of two coats of stain/varnish on the baseboards, will finish off later tonight...and will start the other set as well. My sis is bringing my dad's saw over tomorrow, so hopefully I will be able to put it all up. DH works extra tomorrow sue to a meeting so the thresholds will have to wait for him. I would do it, but not sure If I could drill thru the concrete. My hands are so sore from the floor, that I prob can't hold the drill anyway. Even my knitting has to wait, as I am having issues with the knuckles...will have to try again tonight.

Laundry is waiting, so will run back later.

Shy Moment 03-10-2008 06:02 PM

happy
Funny that you say that. I tell the kids the house has to be clean enough each day that if I should die. I wouldn't be embarrassed if someone came to the house lol. It really only passes my clean test two days a year. The day I finish spring cleaning and the day I finish fall cleaning. Please put the tea kettle on. I will be right over after i go to ups house lol.

shaker 03-10-2008 08:29 PM

Hi Ladies, stopping in to say aloha sorry I have been so tardy of late, is there a piccy of a chicken running around with it's head cutoff.. that would be me!! anyway I have 5 little babies that are taking up most of my time, it is like having a little her of cows because apart from one they are black and white patchy. They follow the mama around everywhere begging to be picked up and cuddled and I oblige when I can but soemtiems have to lie on the floor so they can all have a piece of me

I have been OP last week alhough the week before I fell off with a huge ka-thud only to take the whole week to get myself up again .. and manage to lose what I put on so that was good, off to a fresh start.

DH and DS went to Perth on Sat so things are quiet although DD is the one with the sports on the other side of town during rushhour so the stress is still there most of the time... yippee for easter next w/end huh!!!!!

I am going to read back and find out what everyone has been up to and do my posts.. having a few work things going on just personality clashes and things, always fun isn't it.. happy do you still have the overstayers in the building? must fly.. bye all..

Hiya all,

Yesterday I went off to gym early and then down to NSW to go to a funeral. Didn't get back until mid afternoon and was completely stuffed. We still had out visitor from Perth - he went home today. So it's back to work for me today - only problem is that I seem to have lost the mojo, so if you find it please send it back. I need it. Beginning to see some jobs coming in now. Don't know if I will get any of them. I'm probably going up to Groote for a month later on. We will see what they want to know when they decide that for themselves. Rio are also looking for someone - they don't seem to know what they want the person to do, write or train and they don't seem to have too much information on the subject, but no doubt someone will come up with the info sometime in the future and we can start to talk. The only reason I am even looking at this one is because it is six months at home. I could use that time.

I am sending thoughts to those who need them for themselves or their children in strife or sickness. Nae it is a sad thing when you discover your kids are not working in the way they were brought up to behave! However we do not have jurisdiction over them after 18 and although it is distressing we are not responsible. Annie, I hope DD is coming through her latest ordeal okay. This time I hope they either get the lot or take the lot. She doesn't need this in her life.

With that I am off. I'm not ignoring you and will be back properly tomorrow. So much washing and stuff to do at the moment, I wonder if I'll ever get on top of this lot. Adding to that, the thought of going back to work half finished is not pleasing. So for today, I'd better grab what energy I can muster and get on with it.

Oh yes - so far, one spike of orchids (called Towering Inferno- bright red) with 5 flowers, one spike (magic fire - dark red) has two huge flowers and another (Tennozan - white and blue/purple) has two buds which will open in the next couple of days. Of the roses I have managed to free from grass and weeds, Mr Lincoln is blooming like mad, Jude the Obscure has 14 flowers and countless buds and the fragrance is overwhelming and Radio Times is just coming into bud. I had to rip two out and I think I will lose at least one more but I am amazed that anything so beautiful could survive such hardship. Gotta go. The washers finished it's load.

Good morning ladies,

Shad, what's this about going back to work? I must have misinterpreted things - thought you were home for a bit in between work assignments. Hmm much too soon to return, much yet to be done but those pesky bills do have to be paid I suppose. You are overdue for a fun assignment - hope one is soon to come your way.

Welcome back Shaker - we missed you. Are you fostering some kitties? Awwww, I'll help herd them. As for your question, yes the overstayers have marched back across the way to their home - for just a bit. The company is not renewing the rent on that building when the lease comes up for contract in the summer and they will all be moving permanently into what is sure to become a very overcrowded and unbearable area. I'm so thrilled - NOT!

Hello Rennie, Ellen and Ceejay

Mel - your story about the phone made me want to go searching on the internet for one of the early cell phones - you know, the ones as long as our arms and just as cumbersome  Unfortunately I ran out of time. Hope you get a new, spiffy one.

Michelle - I had some problems with tendonitis that I kept making worse by reinjuring it in the same manner you describe. I wound up getting a stiff hand brace at Walmart that helped greatly. Keep icing and hope it gets better soon. Kind of tough with you having to use your hands as much as you do at work.

Nae - sorry about the son but kids do those things, long after they aren't "kids" anymore sometimes. Hope things work out.

Ruth, Holly - hope you are both dug out.

Is Madcat somewhere in that snow pile? :mag:

Is Carla madly spinning in an igloo? :ebike:

Spring must be here - the daffodils are blooming, the trees are budding, the birds are singing a lovely concert of songs and the bugs have returned. I just saw one of these little annoying gnatty things that buzzes the light and the computer screen. They are tiny enough to come right through the holes in the screen so there's no keeping them out. They don't come in hoardes, just one or two to annoy you like mad. :frypan:

Still sending good wishes to the brother Patty as well as the DD Annie.

Busy day ahead so I'd best get on with it. Make it a good one folks...

ok got the staining done this AM. now I have to wait for it to dry so I can put it up...will porbably work on it tonight after the kiddies go to bed. They sleep thru anything. Will try to go out to the gym this evening too. Weight has been the same...I am really trying to keep my head in the game, because after two months of being good I should be seeing some loss. will try to measure inches again, as that will usually cheer me up. Hoping that I can do this... love and hugs to all!!!

ceejay52 03-11-2008 06:12 PM

Ellen
I'll take the inches anytime.

Annie

Happy hump day everyone, mine has only 3hrs leftof work and I am outta here. We have had some lovely hot sunny days, today being one of them so I hate to miss them..

Shad the roses sounded lovely all down-to-earth name that you can pronounce! yes happy I do have the kittens they are so lovely, but when they rang I felt mean to say no, I could imagine them in a orphanage and noone wanting to take them coz there was to many of them, and they do make you smile. they are safe and well fed, although one took a flying launch at my curtains last night  at least she missed and I don't have nets so no ripping noises to be had.

I have never been vertically challenged but lots of my friends are.. well to me anyway and they are great so have to agree that good things do come in small packages - although I am glad for my sons sake that I am tall so he will be taller as he does have food issues, a bit like his mother!!!

I need to go and look around Maui for a bit, will take my surfboard just in case I manage to catch a wave .. will catch you beach chicks later.. hello to all the wonderful chicks out there

Shad 03-11-2008 09:07 PM

Morning all,

Starting to rain, gym is done, filled the car up with petrol this morning and went for the half price car wash. The washer thingy got stuck on the wax cycle and my car was bombarded with wax suds about halfway down the car. I ended up having to get out and get the man to fix it. They tried pushing and pulling and resetting and nothing worked until I backed up (it's half price this morning - every man and his car were waiting for me to finish) and went in again where upon the car wash gave me another complete wash. So the car should be clean RIGHT???

I have the son home today. He decided not to go to work this morning (I am a little less than impressed). So he's gone down to bank a cheque and do some shopping. I'm doing the washing and some more clearing and packing and taking stuff to the shed. I guess I'll be down at the dump sometime as well.

Happy - I am not sure where Carla is at them moment. I might have to stir her up and see if she is okay.
Sorry to hear about the price of the door. Ouch - was it gold plated or something - did it come with side panels and handles of gold???
I'm not going back to work yet. Groote will wait until I am ready. They haven't exactly figured out what they want yet. Rio is doing the normal and dithering and to be perfectly honest, the only reason I would want to go back there is because the contract will be in Brisbane and not travelling. No I don't really want to go back yet. Too much left to do here. I will be painting for the rest of this week. Ceilings and some walls in the kitchen. Don't have to be perfect because the cabinets will cover much of them. However I won't be doing the splashback for a week or two and so need some covering on the walls to take care of the cooking bits and pieces.

Mel - between my washing and yours we must be keeping the washing powder companies in business. I can't seem to stop finding it. As soon as I clear the laundry basket it seems to be full again. I guess we are just the dirtiest people in Brisbane or Queensland or maybe Aus.

Rennie - what was that old saying - we may be little but we are loud????

Patty - sorry to hear about the Brother. Best wishes go out to him and your family.Hop back on that wagon now. It's time to come aboard.

Annie - your poor children are in the wars. What do you do to them???

Shaker - I do love my roses and the orchids. Apart from the names given to them, there is a long spiel on the tag which gives me it's pedigree. I wouldn't even begin to pronounce some of those. I have Aotearoa as well. Lovely rose but it is only just starting to recover from the choking weeds and grass. DS was remarking this morning that the ones I have uncovered, have really started to perk up. Well yes son, they do that when there is nothing choking them. Human beings are the same! His Orange rose is still somewhere under the weeds. I think he is waiting for me to get that one out. Actually I buy roses for their fragrance. I keep saying that the Orange rose is not really welcome as it turned out to have NO fragrance at all. But he loves the colour.

Ellen - keep on going to the gym and doing the exercise. You'll see the inches disappear first and then the weight. I haven't lost this week, however the shorts I have on have to be continually hitched up, so something is happening around the waist or hips.

And there I better leave it. The washer has finished the load. The dishwasher needs emptying and there is a lot of dusting, sweeping and cleaning to be done - apart from other things like painting things, tearing the kitchen apart, packing things, fixing things, making things etc. Be seeing ya!

1day@atime 03-11-2008 09:58 PM

Hello Ladies,

Thanks for all the prayers. My brother was released by his doctor today to go back home (Austin).. Doctor said he's healing great. The wait now is for the results, but the doctor did say he got everything out.

As for me I was back working out at 5:00AM.. It was really hard to get up, I kept trying to think of an excuse but then thought, NO, it's time to get back on track. I did gain about 5 pounds this past month, but that was my way of stressing out. I have got to learn how to handle stress better.

Annie - keeping DD in my prayers too.

Melody - do you have any recipes for grilled chicken? or any chicken

Michelle - hope your hands get to feeling better..WTG on your workouts...

Hi to Happy, Shy, Ceejay, Shad, Shaker, Ups and to everyone else....

carla49 03-11-2008 10:16 PM

No need to go chasing after Carla. I've been dividing my time between staring in awe at the humongous snowbanks everywhere - including on my balcony - and hanging ten with Gidget and the Big Kahuna. Was very pleased to remember that Hawaiian culture favours (or did favour many decades ago) extremely well-marbled women, and have done my best this week to add a ton of lard to the old carcase... Always wanted to be part of the "in" crowd, don't you know. Seriously though, I may have to stay out of all stores until after both Easter and the post-Easter candy specials are over. :(

  to all of those with family crises: Rose's misbehaving son, Annie's two having surgery, Patty's brother, Ceejay's niece (?). Sending :goodvibes and positive thoughts to you all.

Mel, what the heck is a legger?????

Happy, good news that the DH is dragging you out for walks - followed by two pounds down at the weigh-in!

Ruth, it sounds like the knee is coming along really well! The snow is a mixed blessing - on the one hand you don't want to damage it trying to shovel, but shovelling would be one heck of a calorie-burner! (Easy for me to say, of course, up in my high-rise...)

Shad, enjoy the time off - one thing you know is that when you're ready the work will be there. Congrats on the too-big shorts!

Shy, I haven't forgotten that you'd like the flourless cake recipe - I'll PM it to you one of these days, just have to convert bits of it from grams to ounces and so on. Of course, you do realize that while it is flourless it is not, I repeat NOT calorie-free... If anyone else wants the recipe, just let me know and I'll send a group PM when I finally get to it. I don't dare post it on the thread - much too subversively rich and :censored:

Holly, you call that snow? Hah! Come on up to Ottawa, and we'll show you snow.  Really, though, the photos looked lovely, and the kids must be having a ball playing outdoors.

Ups, I hope the sore wrist improves soon. Two years ago I developed a weird tendinitis in my wrist/thumb, and it took months to heal.

Shaker, I think you and I may be the only non-vertically-challenged people on this thread. Maybe Annie too? I would kill to have little tiny feet like some of the worldlies. Every time I travel I curse the giant shoes filling up half the suitcase, and that's on the rare times when I can find a pair of 10 1/2's that fit.

Spin class was cancelled yesterday - all the snow and ice built up on the roof and caused flooding in the studio, and they needed a couple of days to reconfigure the place so we can get in and out via the dry back entrance. It's always risky for me to miss a class - I lose good habits with lightning speed - but it was fun playing hookey.

Greetings to anyone I've missed!

happy2bme 03-12-2008 08:40 AM

Good sneezy morning to y'all,

Don't know why I'm sneezing so much but I sure am keeping the tissue companies in business this morning! It's supposed to be a glorious 72 degrees out today. Was pretty nice yesterday too I hear but I had a very long day and lots to do so I didn't even get out with DH for a walk last night. But for sure we will do it today.

Carla - I agree. I think this is the most dangerous time of year to be walking past the candy aisles. Even moreso than Halloween. Be strong, be good  Bummer on the snow all around. I would not only be tired of it but achey to my very bones from the chills. Brrr. But I guess that's the charm of living up that way. Hope you at least get some :sunny: to help out. A "legger" is a centipede/millipede - those brown creatures with a bazillion legs that scoot fast across the floor. I guess they can bite too.

Patty - good going on doing the exercise so early. I find myself too having a mental debate about things and then just pushing myself to do what needs to be done.

Shad - you certainly are one busy woman. But I understand - get as much done as you can in between stints. Must be difficult to be away for so long and then try and get everything organized in such precision. Hope you can squeeze out a bit more time before you have to take on the next assignment. Good on yah for the saggy pants :carrot: Progress even if the scale won't co-operate.

How was the surfing Shaker?

Mel - ugh - I hate thousand legger season - used to find them in the basement :yikes:

I did put in about an hour last night going through the closets for a charity pick up this morning. I have such a hard time parting with clothes, particularly the favorites that no longer fit. I know, I know, if you haven't made progress getting there within a year you either take that to step up the motivation or just outright pitch it. I have a couple of cute skirts, some of which I never even wore and I'd really consider it a good thing if I could fit into them again. Now mind you, I have not worn a skirt in oh... perhaps 10 years  Also have some cute jumpers (not your kind of jumper Shad and Shaker) that I would wear again if I could. I guess if I retire the problem is solved - I won't need dresses ever again and then there will be no qualms about chucking them. Actually since many still have tags on, I'd probably learn how to sell on E-bay.

The morning sun is streaming through the front door and blinding me in my left eye so I guess I'd better get ready and get to work.

Hellos to the chickies I didn't get personals to. Happy Tuesday.

JUST WAITING ON THE MERRY MAILMAN  WE WERE SUPOSED TO BE EMULATING THE BIKINI CLAD BEAUTIES ON THE BEACH...NOT THEIR MUU MUU MOMMAS! :faint:

PATTY~ I WILL LOOK AROUND FOR THE GRILLED CHICKEN. SENDING MORE GOOD THOUGHTS

SHAD~ MAYBE DS NEEDED A "HEAD DAY" AND GET THINGS SORTED. WHAT DID HE BUY? ANYTHING GOOD??
SO THE CAR WASH REALLY WAS 1/2 PRICE...YOU GOT 2 FOR THE PRICE OF ONE :lol3: HAPPY DUMP RUN!:scooter:

SHAKER~ I'LL GET MY BOARD TOO AND MEET YOU THERE :beach:

ELLEN~ WHAT'S THE NEXT PROJECT???

JUST WHEN YOU THINK IT'S SAFE TO COME OUT OF THE WATER...THERE IS SO MUCH CRAP GOING ON IN THE OFFICE AND NOW ANOTHER THREAT THAT I MIGHT LOSE THE EXTRA $$ ONCE AGAIN. I AM GOING TO SEE IF I CAN SETTLE THIS ONCE AND FOR ALL. IF NOT I WILL LOOK OVER MY FINANCES AND SEE IF I CAN MAKE A THREAT OF QUITTING WITHOUT CUTTING MY OWN THROAT.
I WOULD LIKE TO KEEP BUSY...RETIREMENT IS JUST NOT MY FORTE. AHHHHHH THE LESSER OF TWO EVILS
ON A FUNNIER NOTE...THIS NEW RADIO-PHONE IS SO THIN THAT IF I RUN IT OVER JUST ONCE, I THINK IT WILL BE HISTORY!!!! WE SHOULD HAVE ASKED IF THEY SERVE CONSTRUCTION WORKERS AND WHAT THEY BUY!! AND MAYBE THEY EVEN SELL THE HARD HAT MAN THAT GOES WITH IT :belly:
HAPPY HUMP DAY! :moped:
