Shad 02-29-2008 04:07 PM

Just realised that amongst other things to do, I have two birthdays to celebrate this week. March 6th for DS1 and March 7 - now whose birthday was that again? Minds going, going, going, gone.

Okay - well I had better get this post out of the way for the day. It would seem it will be a busy one. The DS2 has gone camping for the weekend so I have the house to myself - yeehaa. Now what did I do yesterday.

Okay, okay, I went back to the kitchen place, made a couple of alterations to the plan, almost decided on going with a slightly less expensive benchtop. The Corian is beautiful, but it means the kitchen will be out of commission for 2 weeks rather than two days and is around double the price of the 3x scratch resistant laminate which is more expensive than ordinary laminate anyway - told you I can't do anything on the cheap. That drops the price back under the 20K mark which was the top end of my budget anyway.

Mel - great news on the losses. You have been working hard and proving all the medico's wrong about the amount of weight you can lose. Now we have to get that skin done and dusted. Maybe the fresh air in Maui will work for you. Haven't yet sorted out and Igor for you yet over here.

Happy - glad the boss liked the cake. It sounds nice too. As a kid, we used to go blackberry picking on the banks of the river, that was before the local government declared it a noxious weed and sprayed it stone dead. I loved those blackberries. We would come home with a bowl full of the juicy monsters and black juice staining our faces, fingers, clothes and anything else we could get it on. Yummy. Those flourless, glutenless and good for you cakes tend not to rise so much and certainly don't last as long. That's why I asked. I guess they would freeze okay though.
How did the dessert go in the bake off?? Oh hang on, it hasn't happened yet - read the directions Shad.

Rennie = Mother Nature has never listened to anyone and certainly will not start doing so now. Stop beating your head on a brick wall and just get on with working with or working around her.

Ceejay - Like Mel said, it's good to hear that you and the car are good for another 50,000. Happy motoring. Those Toyotas are bomb-proof I reckon.

Ellen - Chucky cheese??!!!! :faint: We don't have them over here, however even the name conjures up calories.

Annie - have fun at the concert, dance like there is no one watching. Don't you just love the finish on some of those desks?

So it's on with the day. Gym - Body Balance class at 9.30. Then finish off the bits of the bathroom I didn't do yesterday. I spent so much time chucking out of date, rusty, unused, useless stuff that the bath didn't get cleaned - the rest sparkles. Sometimes you just gotts do these things and find out what you have in those drawers and doors. I don't think I will need to buy soap for the next 5 years, it's gone hard too and that means it will last longer. If I send you a present for Christmas or Birthday - guess what it might be???
Then I will tackle the main bedroom, clear out the wardrobe of my unused, unworn, non-fitting duds (or fashion mistakes) and take them to the Op Shop. Some one else may get some benefit out of them. I feel the need to shift the computer as well and there is yet another box of books to be sorted, packed up or thrown to the book exchange. And I guess that is about it. Time to move it along. See you for cocktails later.

Ruthxxx 03-01-2008 09:09 AM

 and aloha! Today may be the day that I get in my car and drive down for the newspaper. Yes, I still hurt but enough is enough. I am taking my Life back if my neighbour who has been using my car can find the frassing keys! I'm just a tad ticked off. I need to get back at driving so I can take myself places - like to Brockville for the surgeon's re-check next Wednesday.

Edited: Still stuck at home. I have the keys but there's 8" of snow in the lane and the plough guy hasn't been here! Guess I'm stuck in the house for the day.

Good morning chicks,

Oooohhh smell the sea breeze, feel the warm sun on your face. I'm LOVIN' Maui  :cloud9: thanks for getting us here Shad!

You sound like a busy whirlwind of activity down there my friend. Sunday the cat better watch out lest she get tossed with the lot! DH likes Corian or the solid surface better than the laminate because solid surface has no seams. It always seems that when they cut the angle of the counters, they aren't even. Also there is pressed fiberboard under the laminate which soaks up liquid like a sponge. Have to make sure the sink edge is sealed well and there is never any liquid around the seams lest you find bulges there one day. I didn't realize this at first - had the dish rack on the counter at a seam. Water dripping off the glasses puddled on the counter which I didn't see and when I moved the rack :yikes: ruined the counter. (It was time for new benchtops anyway  ) but I am extra careful now. I'm sure you'll pick out something lovely.

Congrats Mel on your 5 pounds down for the month. That is fabulous :cp: :cp: :cp:

We're off to the humane society today. We or rather DH got a call this week to come out for the weekend. We're to be there when they open up which means we will be assigned catbox duty. DH said nope  I didn't sign up for that :nono: I signed up for "cat socialization" which means to pet the kitties, show them some love and make them less afraid of humans. So he will pet the kitties and I will scoop the poopies I guess **needs holding nose smiley right now** 'Tis ok. It must be done. We can't ALL have the good jobs

The bake off was fun. We had 15 entries. I came in 4th place. No prize, just the glory of it  I tried to go for presentation and creativity. Here's a pic of my dessert. I actually had another normal pie which was decorated quite pretty - as I was putting the cherries on the bigger pan (for the people's choice award) I decided to get creative and beg for votes

We had some astounding entries. You would think a bunch of IT people would make geek cakes but there were several beauties that would rival anything you'd see in a bakery. One guy's wife made a 3 layer cheesecake, frosted it with dark chocolate ganache??? She hand made white chocolate maple leaves that she decorated the outer edge of the cake with and then on top she HAND MADE calla lillies out of sugar and decorated the top of the cake with 8 of them. It was a work of art and of course took first place. She is not a professional, just likes to do that kind of thing.

After the judging, the public was invited to come in and sample. I had 4 tiny spoons of different things and it was too much sugar! I can't imagine how the judges got through 15 samples - tho not as bad as last year's 27 entries.

Sometimes embarrassing things happen to me. Well actually a lot. I have many stories. But as I was trying a sample, I of course had to try this magnificent cheesecake. It was sitting on a pretty pedastle cake plate. I went to take a spoon of cheesecake from the center and the darned cake was so dense that I pushed it off the cake plate almost into the front of my bosses boss who caught the cake before disaster hit. She gently removed it from the cake stand and graciously said, this wasn't very steady anyway. I tried to take another spoonful and again pushed the cake - it started to roll and bosses boss again caught it before it just about fell off the table and rolled to the floor  I was so embarassed. Did I mention that I dropped the cake server on the floor too :o :o After I almost knocked it to the floor twice, I said "I guess this is God's sign that I REALLY don't need any of this cake" - several people standing around started laughing as I snuck off to clean the cake server I dropped. Oh my. Only me.

I need to jump in the shower as we are leaving in 30 minutes. So to those cleaning snow or cleaning cabinets or the house - have fun. Be careful to those travelling and stop and have a bit of fun - after all it IS the weekend. Will be back later tonight  to the chicks.

Shad 03-01-2008 08:14 PM

Morning all, and it is a glorious start to Autumn over here. The sun is shining, the sky is blue. Grass is several shades of green.

Happy the desset looks great - hope they appreciated your sense of humour with the decoration!!! Hope you get along okay at the cat society place. It can be a cruel eye opener in those places, but as newbies I guess you won't have to see the battered and torn just yet. I wish Sunday would get some sense of appreciation of all I do for her. Feed me, pet me, water me, move over so I can take up the bed. Why don't you let me sit on your head (answer to that is - would you let me sit on your head???)
Actually the corian is not seamless. I had it all explained how it is done. They prepare the benchtops and install the carcass. Then they fit the corian in the usual shaped pieces gluing as they go. Once the glue is dry, they buff it and it all appears seamless. You can't see any seams and it is waterproof. If you damage the bench, they come along and cut the damage out and put another piece in gluing the edges and then buff it up to appear perfect again. You can take out minor scratches with a scotchbrite pad as well. It's wonderful stuff, but awfully expensive. The cheap laminate has worked in my kitchen for 20 years and only lifted in one spot and I scraped out the fibre board and glued it back down and clamped it until dry. It didn't lift again. Maybe I have just been lucky. Mind you the surface has gone and it stains something awful these days and I also put a minor burn on it a year or so back. So it is past it's sell by date. I'm looking forward to the new one going in.

Mel - I think you better find March 7th. It's an important day. It's the day after DS1's birthday for a start and also it is the day after Michelangelo's birthday. Sincerely hope the Michelangelo virus is not still hanging around.
Glad you like the new joint. May it prove happy and fruitful as far as weight loss goes.

Shad 03-01-2008 09:18 PM

Had to stop off there as DB2 arrived on the scene. A lesson in computerese ensued since he is not exactly computer literate. However he has made contact with some old friends and has a better attitude to life at the moment. Long may it last!

Don't really have a lot more to say anyway. I'm off to finish in the bathroom, do a little more in the garden, start clearing and cleaning in the bedroom. More stuff to the shed and no doubt another load to the dump, however that won't happen until Monday, since every citizen of Logan seems to go to the dump on a Sunday.

Ruth - there are times when you just have to push the barrow and get on with life. All I can say is that go for it. If it gets worse, lessen up a bit but don't necessarily stop. If it doesn't get worse then CARRY ON SISTER.

Gym is done for the day, food is sorted too. I just have to get my butt moving in mysterious ways. That way the flab may just jiggle it's way to some other bit of someone elses belly. Don't stand still it may be yours.

RECIPE #38.

Heat refrigerated or frozen chicken nuggets. Meanwhile, heat bottled sweet and sour sauce and drained canned pineapple chunks until hot. Toss with chicken nuggets. Serve with quick-cooking rice.

Good morning! Hawaii sounds good this morning although we do have brilliant sunshine.

MEL, you always manage to sound so perky! Yes, February has been a bad month around here too. It seems all I've done is send sympathy cards and make donations to "the charity of your choice". :(

Hollyhock, that was pretty terse! What's a happenin'?

Happy, the cheesecake incident is hilarious. Is there a video?

Ellen, date night sounds good to me. I do like the idea of "cocktails" after dinner. :carrot:

Shad is right - I just need to start trundling the wheel barrow around as much as I can. I'm still semi-snowed in as the plough guy hasn't shown. I may give him a call - he's probably recovering from Saturday night right now. If he doesn't arrive, I'll just gun my little red Focus and get out the lane anyhow. I need to go to the store just to prove I can!

Time for a shower and a selection from my massive wardrobe of t-shirts and pants! :D Here's a close-up of a lily to brighten your SUN :sunny: Day! Note the snow through the window.

happy2bme 03-02-2008 11:58 AM

Good morning ladies,

It's gorgeous outside. 70F degrees now, climbing a bit more by the afternoon. Perfect day to go outside, wash the car and pick up all the sticks and leaves and dried up sweetgum pods (gumballs). Then tomorrow it's supposed to storm like crazy which will knock more stuff out of the trees. And Tuesday - hold on to your hats - it's supposed to snow a bit. Ceejay may finally get her wish. You can tell Mother Nature is ticked off - the weather sure is wacky.

There were several regular people at the Humane Society yesterday and they did all the cleaning - we were told just to play with the cats. And that we did. All but one of them was so playful and loving. They were really enjoying the attention. We were there for 2 hours and when we were done we had enough cat hair on the 2 of us to make another cat. Even tho I took an allergy pill before I left, about 2 hours is all I can handle in close quarters. We drove home with me sneezing and coughing and wheezing. I was ok once I changed clothes and popped another pill. I will certainly do this again. They said we can pretty much come and go as we like, whenever we have the time.

I am trying to get DH and I out of the house more even though with the weather getting better we certainly have lots of projects around here. The Second City Comedy group was coming to our local performing arts center and I bought tickets for their show on Friday night. I had it on my calendar and had the tickets on the refrigerator in plain sight. The show was at 6:30pm so I didn't have to rush home from work. I came home on Friday preoccupied with the bake off - perhaps I was distracted by the extra sugar I had eaten. DH was still in his casual "work from home" outfit and said he wasn't feeling up to par and didn't feel like going out to dinner. Ok, no problem. Last night we were watching a comedian do a special show on HBO and he said something about the people who had come to see him perform. I looked over at DH and said :yikes: we FORGOT to go to the GPAC last night and see the Second City show  :?:  DH said he remembered we had a busy week and THOUGHT we were supposed to do something Friday night but he never mentioned it to me. We both completely forgot. There went over $70 in tickets for nothing  Actually this is more troubling that frustrating. Are we losing it already? :dizzy:

Ruth - that is a gorgeous picture of your lily. It's especially pretty with the snow as a background. I hear that those of you who get snow are just so tired of the stuff already. Been a snowy year. At least you won't be in draught conditions. AND with a red car - even if you get stuck, you will be easy to find. Just be careful with that knee.

Mel, sorry you had so much unneccesary excitement in your building. Hopefully things will calm down with the seniors although when you live with a large community of older folks, I suppose you have to get used to (or steel yourself) that you're going to lose some friends. Get on those pedals and give us a tour of the island, will you? :bike: Enjoy the day - it looks like you've got some nasty storms coming your way again.

Aloha to you too Hollly

Thanks for the explanation on the Corian Shad. I thought they poured the stuff but now that I think about it, you explanation makes sense. I think the reason I didn't like it was because the early stuff had a rather dull finish and I like things shiny but I think they have changed that now. We were even considering that too for our kitchen. I thought that DB2 had gone off to NZ a while back? Must have gotten it confused with someone else. All your talk of getting things arranged and tidied around the house has me in the mood to do the same. I do feel badly that I should be out helping DH but there's so much that needs to be done inside that I think I should stay in and do it.

Besides I have a headcold today. I checked it off to regular sinus pressure but today I have the sniffles. Will try not to bend down as that makes it much worse.

Driving to the Humane Society yesterday I noticed my favorite tree is in bloom already. I think its' the redbud. It's a gorgeous reddish purple tree that has tiny buds that make it look like the entire tree is outlined in purple. I also see the yellow forscynthia peeking out and there's some white bushes as well. Part 2 of spring is here in the south. Part 1 is the birds returning and singing their spring songs. The daffodils have sprung too.

Ellen - hope you had a good shopping trip and a nice dinner with the DH.

Well I'm off to get busy around here. Aloha to the rest of the chicks - have a good Sunday!

Ruthxxx 03-02-2008 02:01 PM

I'm back on my wheels and have my life back! Whodathunkit but I'm all excited over going to the store and getting milk and the newspaper. I even went in to Bob's Diner/Dinner and had a quesadilla for lunch with some of the lads and caught up on gossip. If the weather is decent tomorrow, I may do a run to the Library in the next town! Such excitement!

upswife 03-02-2008 05:47 PM

Ruth~so happy to hear you are out and about! Take it easy on your knee, and keep your trips short. I am looking to go to the library this week...can anyone reccommend any good books???

Happy~so nice not to have to clean the litter boxes! hope your allergies are a little better next time you go. I love cats, but because of DH and DS having asthma we can't have one.

Shad~all your cleaning is putting me to shame...I really have to get on the ball. Spring is starting to come out a little, so I need to get moving.

Mel~I had our alarm go off a 2 am once...I wanted to smash it with DH's baseball bat. hopefully yours will calm down once it has a new battery.

Holly~aloha right back at you...hope things are well!

Well, got up to about 50 today...spring is in the air...sad thing is that is supposed to snow again this week. all this snow and then meling the rivers are up pretty high, and most field have standing water on them. Had Confirmations this AM at church, was very nice. The kiddies did well with the extra long service. Went for brekie/lunch around 2pm.
If the rain stays away we will have a fire...just trying to relax b4 the start of the week.

Later Chicas

Shad 03-02-2008 06:08 PM

Morning all,

:woohoo: Ruth :woohoo: You go girl. Soon you'll be back at the gym doing upper body work. Nothing like sitting down on the job and waving the arms about!!!! Can only get better from here on in.
Great picture of the lily too. Looks like spring is going to make it when you see these starting to come in.

Happy - well done with the cats. I can just see you playing with the little critturs. And then they curl up on you and look at you with those big eyes before going off to sleep. Such trust. Apart from my little b*tch they generally tend to get over most of their trauma and live normal and happy lives. Latest with Sunday is that she is not a cat! oh no! she is a human. She wants cereal fruit and yoghurt for breakfast now and not her very expensive biscuits. Strange lady that one.
I had experience with the shiny laminate at the flat in Perth. It does look good but shows every little mark and horror of horrors the one I had had a dark green and black surface with a white underlay and everytime it scratched all this white showed up. I can imagine it when it is getting old. Actually no, I did not scratch it myself. The person before me had put some black stuff (probably shoe polish) on it and every time I cleaned it, another scratch showed up. The one you are looking for is Caesar Stone, shiny not scratchy and bl**dy expensive. Your tastes are more expensive than mine.

DB2 did go to NZ - back last October. He went to a school reunion. He's well back and doing his thing. He's also changed address and is living with the rest of his family again. There is a very long and complicated story to this, but I will just bore you with the short version. His ex wife had been living with another bloke along with his kids and her kids. They seemed to be getting along very well. He was rather nice actually. For some reason, and I haven't yet sorted out what it was, the ex and kids were asked to leave. They decided to buy a house, but even combining the two wages of ex wife and DNiece they could not obtain a big enough loan to buy a house. Enter left stage DB2 - now remember I am in Perth during this and DS2 is not told until much later. So they 'invite' DB2 to 'invest' with them. They will buy a 4 bedroom place and each can have their own space. It has happened and DB2 has given up his place in the country and moved in. He seems to be taking it well. It is forcing him to save in a roundabout fashion. He gets to see a lot more of the kids. For the moment all is light and fluffy. He actually seems to be better in himself for all this. We are doing 6 monthly assessments and will see how things pan out. Very carefully I am pointing out pitfalls as I see them and trying to get him to look at these before the hammer falls. I welcome the improvement, I do not want for him to go back to how he was before.

Okay - gym, shower, breakfast and coffee are done, I should get off here and get on with my day. I have a bit more to do in the bathroom and on with the bedroom. I still have much to clear, pack, chuck and clean. Have a good Sunday/ Monday my friends.

ceejay52 03-02-2008 08:43 PM

Aloha I'm doing the hula the best I know how.

Happy
Your experience has probably been had by all. It does make for a cute story.

I've been to Paragould and back. I did get to go visit with my cousin-her mom and sister. I didn't want to go into her room just yet. She is still on a ventilator and she's not out of the woods yet, but her mom has hope. The doctor has her on two different kinds of antibiotics and is beginning to respond to the treatment.

I bought a new outfit today to wear to my nephew's wedding in May. I could get into the large but decided to buy the extra large. The large still showed to many flaws in the contours of my body. he he.

Today was so warm.

Shy Moment 03-03-2008 12:11 AM

Oh it is nice to be back home. MELODY keep you cotton picken fingers off my little smiles lol.

Ruthxxx 03-03-2008 07:54 AM

Developing a slight twitch from Shad's "back to the gym" remark. Maybe next week? It's climbing the stairs to the second floor that will be the killer although going down is harder. Maybe for St. Patrick's Day?

Rennie, yup - home is best.

Upswife, relaxing by the fire is an excellent way to prepare for a week. I hope you enjoyed it. We are pretty sick of the damned snow here too!

Ceejay, I hope your cousin is over the hump. Good decision on the wedding dress - you can always take it in a bit but letting out is impossible, IMHO.

Today's excursion, weather permitting, will be a trip to the Library and the grocery store in the next town - ten minute drive. Hershey is a bit concerned about the weather prediction and is being really sucky and cuddly. I think she worries about being kicked out into the storm. I can usually tell bad weather is on the way by her behaviour.

Have a marvelous and motivated Monday, Worldlies.

MELODY525 03-03-2008 08:07 AM

BUT....DON'T GO HOG WILD OR YOU WILL END UP BACK IN THE D A M N HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!! :rollpin:

happy2bme 03-03-2008 09:12 AM

Good morning ladies,

I took a flying tumble yesterday. I was up by the pool and was sweeping up while I was waiting for the pump to drain the excess rainwater off the cover. DH has the cover bungie corded to the wrought iron fence so it won't blow away or sink down into the pool. This of course leads to a precarious situation with literally "trip wires" all around the pool. I was telling myself "be careful of the bungies" and I was walking and something distracted me. Next thing I know, my feet are tangled and I am trying my best to stay upright. I slammed down on the cement deck. Broke my d*mn boobs I did! My hands slid on the rocky cement and I took it worse on my right side. I tore my thumb up on my left hand and my palm and elbow on my right. Made a bloody mess of one of my favorite shirts too. Oh well, I'm just glad I didn't break anything.

I was cleaning out the dead leaves on the azaleas and though they are not blooming yet, several of the other early spring flowers are. We are supposed to get strong storms this afternoon as the cold front moves in but it looks like we will avoid the snow.

They are talking snow up in Jonesboro Ceejay so you might see a bit of it your way. There's an undergarment called Spanx that is really good at smoothing the little bulgy lines out when you need a little extra help. It's good for light colored pants too which show alot of shadows and sins.

Mel - I hope you don't have a bunch of alarms going off! Tell the man to come back when it's warm outside

Good to be getting out of the house Ruth - no stopping you now :D

Hope you don't get more snow Ellen. Must be tired of the stuff by now.

Shad - that sounds like a more stable enviornment for DB2 - hope it holds up well.

 Rennie.

Time to get to work for this banged up chick. Talk to you later, love to the rest of the crew :grouphug:

Hollyhock 03-03-2008 11:13 AM

OUch Happy!! Take care.

Nice to see you out and about Miss Ruthie. I had a hard weekend mentally. I am very, very tired of winter. Mostly driving in it. That said, the kids and I spent more than 3 hours at an outdoor rink yesterday and it was a blast.

it is +5C today and very windy. I have all the windows open and am cleaning. Feeling less overwhelmed by life in general today.

MELODY525 03-03-2008 11:16 AM

HAPPY I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THAT FALL....AND COULD YOU HAVE HURT MANY KORE PARTS AT ONE TIME???:yikes: THANK GOD YOU DIDN'T FALL INTO THE DANG POOL!!!! HPE THE STIFFNESS AND SORENESS ISN'T TOO BAD AT WORK

carla49 03-03-2008 12:27 PM

Happy, ouch!!! First your attempted cake-icide, now trying to take a swan dive into a swampy pool? I feel for you, I really do. You must be so sore today.
By the way, I thought your attempt to sway the electorate was very cute. Next time there's a bake-off, remind me to give you my recipe for flourless chocolate cake. It looks quite innocuous, but is absolutely killer. And there's room on top to put pleading messages too...

Mel, which alarm was it that went off? If it was a smoke detector, shouldn't your friendly firefighters have been there to check things out? ;) :D
I hope for both your sake and Jen's that she doesn't go take care of Ritchie's father. From earlier posts he doesn't sound like a very nice man, and didn't he have a girlfriend with him on the cruise? Couldn't she look after him? Can't he look after himself? I'm not trying to be uncharitable, but from previous posts I got the impression he was pretty controlling, and I'd hate to see her being used. :soap:

Shad, how go the kitchen plans? When I finally do mine, I think I'll go for a good-quality laminate, especially as I wouldn't have any seams, just cutouts for sink and cooktop. Then again, I have a very bad habit of 'forgetting' to use a cutting board... :o
I hope for DB2's sake that the new living arrangement pans out. I'd be concerned about what will happen to him if the ex reconciles with the boyfriend, or finds someone new. :crossed: that it all works out.

Ruth, good for you braving the snow and ice! :dancer: I have a feeling getting out and about is the best thing you cand do for that knee. Just make sure not to pull a Happy on the ice!!! :yikes:

Shy, you say you're glad to be back home - where did you go? Did you have a good time? Watch those little siggie guys like a hawk - If this morning's :goodscale wasn't just an aberration, I'll be stealing one of the little fellows myself! (Official weigh-in is Wednesday.)

Ceejay, lucky you with the warm weather! It's actually raining here today, but the snow will be back later in the week. We barely escaped some nasty freezing rain. What colour is the new outfit?

As part of my conversion to WW, I'm always on the lookout for fast, easy, light and tasty recipes. Here's one I really enjoyed. you can use any kind of whitefish for it.
In a micro-steam bag (Glad and Ziploc both worked) place a few fillets of frozen fish; add a splash of Worcestershire sauce, some chopped green onions, a few capers, and a couple of anchovies chopped into smaller peieces. Steam until done (follow directions on the bag) and serve over 90-second brown rice with a huge pile of steamed veg. Yummm.

I missed spinning on Friday, and spent much of the weekend on the heating pad and muscle relaxants after waking up with an annoying muscle spasm in my neck/shoulder. It's still there but much better, so I'll be back in the saddle tonight. :ebike: Then a 'friend' send me a link to an on-line game called Free Rice.... The idea is that as you play you're improving your vocabulary and at the same time providing free rice for starving people in Africa. Any of you who like word games might like it, but be forewarned - it consumes vast amounts of time, and is wildly addictive. I'm trying to wean myself off it bit by bit.

Last week I finally went out and bought some jeans that fit a bit better, and also a pair of black pants that fit extremely well. So I can turf out the awful stuff I'd been wearing for so long. I was trying to hold out until I could just wear the smaller clothes waiting in the closet, but it's a very slow process, and I finally decided I deserved better. Of course I was lucky to find what I needed, and at a very reasonable price! (Since standard sizes don't fit me well I don't really like clothes-shopping unless I'm very slim, and I tend to assume there'd be nothing out there for me. Always a shock to find anything...)

I guess that'll be all for now. I hear lunch calling...

 to Holly, Annie, Shaker, upswife, and Madcat lying in the sun down south.

happy2bme 03-03-2008 02:44 PM

cake-icide :lol3: :lol3: :lol3: Carla - you sure are a hoot! OMG - flourless chocolate cake. My 2 most favorite desserts in the world - I eat them twice a year - on birthday and anniversary (which is Wednesday) - creme brulee and flourless chocolate cake. :T :T :T ok, down girl. Did I use up any WW points just thinking about it? And here I was having such a stellar on-plan day :D

Hope your kink works out Carla. Those things can be buggers, especially if you can't "pull them out". Good for you on getting good fitting pants. I think we all have a tendency to wear baggy, ill fitting clothing - either to hide yards and yards of body with yards and yards of fabric - or we are on the way down the scale and don't want to buy new stuff in interim sizes we don't intend to stay at. But the truth is, good fitting clothing will not only make you look good (and often quite thinner than the bulky stuff) but you will feel better about yourself too. So even if you just do like the rich and have a few good, classic pieces that you can swap in and out, you'll feel better for it. Last week I dug out a jacket from the back of the closet and the reaction I got (quite unexpected) reinforced that point about good fitting clothes. So know that you didn't waste your money Carla. I'll bet you look fab.

Your recipe sounded good UNTIL I got to the anchovies. Awk, eeeeeeee, no thank you very much as she runs screaming away. Now I loves me my fisheys but anchovies are not only salty but too fishy for this chick. When I first discovered Ceaser salad I had to always remember to ask if they put anchovies in there. I think enough people said no so they don't do that anymore. Probably a bummer for those of you that like them. I have some of those steamer bags but haven't tried them yet. I am still a bit concerned about cooking food and leaching plastic bags. :dunno:

Shad - I did look at Caesarstone (sp?) - didn't like any of it. Good thing because it IS expensive. I would rather do laminate in this house too considering we won't be here long enough to make the investment worthwhile but we'll see what we decide as we get closer to it.

I don't know Mel - if the eyes are bothering you that much, maybe you have to ease out of the office duties at your place. We can't have you all smeary eyed - we need you bright and bushy tailed for here  Go run outside and take a sniff of the 50's temps, they say there is more icky weather headed your way. :(

Holly - playing in the cold weather is ALWAYS more fun than driving in it. I always said, winter isn't so bad if you can bundle up, stay inside and don't ever have to go out in it. When does winter "end" for you guys up north?

Lunch is over, back to work for me.

MELODY525 03-03-2008 03:10 PM

MELODY525 03-03-2008 05:27 PM

I FOUND THIS RECIPE BUT HAVE NEVER EATEN TEMPEH. IS IT GOOD? LIKE TOFU? I MIGHT GET THE STUFF TO TRY THIS TOMORROW. WHATCHA THINK?

http://www.recipelink.com/cookbooks/...94862923_5.jpg

Tempeh Dagwood Sandwich
Recipe from: The South Beach Diet Quick and Easy Cookbook by Arthur Agatston

Stacked up high and filled with smooth avocado, juicy tomato, and creamy cheese, this power-protein sandwich is a South Beach vegetarian favorite. Vegans can use nondairy mayo and soy cheese. If you have extra time, marinate the tempeh for up to an hour.

Makes 1 serving
Prep Time: 15 minutes (includes marinating)
Cook Time: 10 minutes

2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce

1 tablespoon plus 1 1/2 teaspoons cider vinegar

1 garlic clove, minced

1/2 (8-ounce) package soy tempeh

1 teaspoon mayonnaise

2 slices multigrain bread, lightly toasted

1 ounce shredded reduced-fat cheddar cheese (3 tablespoons)

1/4 avocado, peeled and sliced

2 slices tomato

Whisk together soy sauce, vinegar, and garlic in a shallow bowl. Add tempeh and marinate for 10 minutes, turning once halfway through.

Spray a medium nonstick skillet with fat-free cooking spray and heat over medium heat. Add tempeh, reserving marinade, and cook until well browned, 4 minutes per side. Remove from heat, add 2 tablespoons of the marinade to the pan, and flip tempeh once or twice until marinade is absorbed.

Spread mayonnaise on 1 bread slice. Place tempeh on top and cover with cheese, avocado, and tomato. Top with remaining bread, gently press down, slice in half, and serve.

Mel
Looks good.

Happy
Ouch. Are you sore from the fall? Don't know what I did this past weekend but I have a bruise on the inside of my left upper arm.

holly
Hello Glad you had a good week end.

Carla
The new outfit has a lime green short sleeve jacket. The skirt has a black back ground with bits and pieces of hot pink, purple and lime green. It has a paisly design. My body is so out of shape that I hope I can wear the skirt. I live in pants.

Ruth
I'm so glad that you have ventured out of the house. I'm not much of one driving on the snow. Be careful. Sometimes that is the best medicine.

Shad
Have you got caught up on the cleaning?

Hello to Ellen and Painter Woman.

Shy Moment 03-03-2008 06:19 PM

I really have to watch you people like a hawk. Ok, I now have trained killer 2 inch worms watching my little smiles.

Ruth
Glad to see you are up and moving around a bit. Take it easy.

Happy
Oh my gosh, hope you are feeling better now. You really need to hire one of those sexy pool guys to do all that work.

Holly
Glad you had fun with the kids. 65 here today and most of the snow gone. I went out and cleaned up the yard again. This is twice so far this season. I just keep telling myself. There will be less to do in the spring.

Carla
We went to a friends house for the weekend ( her husband works 12 hours a day ) to help her out since she just got home from the hospital after having a hysterectomy. The little worms watching my smiling BITE :)Oh I would love that recipe for flour less cake. Glad you found something to fit. Every now and again we should get something for our selfs.

Shad 03-03-2008 06:44 PM

Morning all,

Such a chatty lot you are.

Ceejay - congratulations on the purchase of the new outfit. Sounds really nice. I like those colours together.
No I haven't finished the cleaning. In this place it is never finished. I live in a very dusty area.

Welcome back Rennie - and yes Mel keep the fingers off!!!! ???? Did I miss something??

Ruth - twitch is good. At least you are moving something  We will have to create a little sled to get you up and down the stairs. Do we have to cater for bends in the stairs??? Keep moving and give Hersh lots of cuddles and pats.

Happy - ouch!  Get better soon. I suppose you will go to work and say that they should take a look at the other bloke??? Get better soon.

Morning Holly - glad to see you had a good weekend. I can understand getting tired of driving in snow.

Carla - the concerns you expressed are exactly the ones I have doubts about. The DN is of an age when it probably wont be too long before she decides to try out life alone or with a friend. What happens when the kids are gone? What happens if the ex wants to bring in a new boyfriend or move out with a new boyfriend? She's done it before, why not again?? Since he is paying in the most and yet has the least needs and has made the biggest change in lifestyle what happens if one of them wants to go. It has potential for success and for disaster. I hope the former comes up trumps.
The recipe sounds nice and I don't mind anchovies. If you don't like 'em leave them out and season instead.
Sounds like new wardrobes all round. Good to see us taking pride in our appearance. Looking good is equivalent to an 8 on the feel good scale.

Mel - good to hear you are getting out an about occasionally. The fresh air does do us good. I'm convinced of the lifting effects of sunlight. Can't do without it.
Take care of those eyes - we don't need any more rosacea flare ups from you.
Say hello to Ritchie and Jen for me. You do realise that if they do decide to go look after him, he may just be contrary enough to leave them whatever is left over at the end of a long and demanding life? Of course the rest of the family (who seem conspicuously silent) will then contest the will. And war will break out again. What's wrong with him anyway?

Gym is done for the day. Breakfast is finished. Coffee is nearly over and I should get on with things. Today I need to shift some more stuff to the shed, talk to the kitchen place about contracts, talk to the door man and the floor man, clean and clear some more and a dump run as well. I think this will be close to the end of that particular thrill. Yeehah, :woohoo:

MELODY525 03-03-2008 06:47 PM

HEY I DON'T SEE ANY BITING WORMS....GONNA TRY AND USE SCARE TACKTIC NOW HUH??? REMIND ME TO GET SOME BUG SPRAY WHEN I GO TO THE FOOD STORE TOMORROW.....HERE LITTLE WORMY WORM COME TO MAMA.....
BUT THAT WAS NICE OF YOU GUYS TO GO HELP THE WOMAN OUT. BET SHE APPRECIATED IT TO NO END!

CEEJAY~ WOW THE OUTFIT SOUNDS VERY NICE. HOPE YOU ENJOY IT EVERY MINUTE YOU'RE THERE MISS CLASSY! :belly:

SOMEHOW I MUST HAVE MISSED HOLLY'S POST BUT GLAD YOU HAD FUN WITH THE KIDS AND WAVING ANYWAY

Shy Moment 03-03-2008 09:16 PM

Melody
Oh my gosh you are just to much lol.

No, I didn't even get a thank you. That was the main reason the hubby was just so darn mad. We got there Friday about noon. We didn't leave until about 2 on Sunday afternoon. In that amount of time I...spring cleaned her apartment and washed the windows and curtains. Scrubbed down the kitchen and bathroom walls. Did the laundry. Made meals for 5 days so she wouldn't have to try to cook and did all her shopping. I knew she was going to have to go in for gallbladder surgery in a couple of months and wasn't going to find time to do all this with the pain she is in most of the time. I remember before I had my gallbladder out and I sure didn't feel like doing anything that didn't have to be done.

Shad
They want to steal my little smiles.

happy2bme 03-03-2008 09:18 PM

I have this sudden urge to take up yodelling. :D

When Irish eyes see smilies - it appears Miss Mel dug out the St. Paddy's day smilies. Better than those DECEMBER ones I suppose. I'm sure one of those is named Igor. Or at least now he is. Love the new avatar. (I think we have a froggy living in the water of the pool cover - will check again and if so, I'll name it Wild Mel).

Rennie - I already have a sexy pool guy. He was out getting my dinner when I "fall down, go boom". He did offer to clean my wounds and did bandage my arm and gave me an extra kiss to make it heal faster. You are accumulating an awful lot of characters in your signature. Great job!

I'm scrolling backwards. Just saw Mel's worm eater

I want to go to the dump with Shad. Here the nice guys come and tote it off for you provided you don't put out any contraband construction or yard waste in black, not clear bags.

Ceejay - the new outfit sounds very pretty. I know what you mean about skirts - been so long I forgot how to spell the word  I find it's not the skirts that's the problem, it's that after so long you don't have any shoes to go with a dress. And don't you just hate those mystery bruises that show up out of nowhere.

Anyone seen a red car driven by a wild woman with a curly dog and a wigglely knee? If so, get that woman home.

Tempeh? :chin: might have tried it when we were going to the Mediteranean restaurant but I can't be sure. I know falafel - that was good. Try it and let us know how it was.

Ellen - I REALLY like your new avatar!

And I had a perfectly on plan day today diet wise. I had to do some tweaking and adjusting but I pulled it off. It's easy to go over points, even if you do get a lot of them.

I'm going to celebrate with a nice cup of tea. I did pick up some of that Stevia over the weekend. I'm not sure I like it. It is sweet but easy to be bitter too. I am still experimenting with it. Heck my goal was to trade out the 14 teaspoons of sugar that's in a can of soda. Even with a touch of fine New Zealand honey or a bit of rock sugar, I'm not coming anywhere close to the sugar in soda.

Don't drink your calories they say. Ok, I'm off for a cup of Rooibos tea. I love the Jasmine stuff but didn't realize that green tea has caffeine in it. Was quite awake last night. I have several flavors of Rooibos - naturally caffeine free. Supposed to be for iced tea but maybe it will be ok hot too.

'Night all...

happy2bme 03-03-2008 09:19 PM

You didn't even get a thank you Rennie? Geez, some friend. I mean, I understand that you don't do it for the gratitude but heck, most people would leave you lying in a gutter now a days so you have to be nice to the ones who still give a hoot. Bummer. :(
