Good Morning Ladies --
I'm not going to type much today as I've got a minor sprain of my right thumb and wrist. I think I bent my thumb back awkwardly while doing weights night before last. It hurt yesterday and hurt worse last night and today. So I iced it last night which helped a bit and my hand/wrist is wrapped in an ACE bandage now, but it still hurts. I'm still going to the gym tonight for cardio and weights...but I'll be careful how I lift weights with my right hand (if I do at all). Mel - How sweet that the man gave you a stuffed frog. :) When you mentioned opening a window and doing your cleaning, I could almost smell the fresh clean air. I'm looking forward to warmer weather when we can open up the windows and let the fresh air in. Where do you live, Mel, that you were lucky enough to not get any snow? Shad - Happy B'Day to your DS1. Glad to hear that your DS2's finger still works well. With all the stress and change going on in your life, don't worry about the scale. Just keep it up as it will help you deal with the stress and feel great, and you'll see results soon. Your days are always so full! You always have lots going on and you're doing so much around your house. I wish I had half the energy you have. I'm noticing improvement in my energy from eating right and exercising...but when I think of all the stuff I need to get done in the house :yikes: it just seems very overwhelming. Ellen - How exciting that you and Shad are doing such exciting remodeling/redecorating projects!! Happy - Judging from the times of your posts, you're up late. I am sound asleep shortly after 10 pm (and I get up around 5:15 or 5:30). I don't even see midnight on the weekends....a party animal I am NOT   I marvel at people like Shad who start the day with exercising...I just can't get myself up any earlier to allow time for exercise. And to answer your question, I have 3 adorable Miniature Schnauzers - a 7 year old salt & pepper colored male named Doppler, a 2 year old white male named Santa, and a black female puppy who is nearly one year old named Mischief. One of the dogs we had when you and I met passed away suddenly a little over a year ago. We ended up getting Mischief a month or so afterward. I injured my back 2-1/2 years ago and it's quick to remind me when I do something stupid. I'm looking forward to losing more weight and strengthening my core so my back will get stronger as well. Good for you for staying within points. We had a potluck at work today. I brought a spinach, romaine and strawberry salad. Yum!! And I had a turkey sandwich on wheat with a small amount of lite mayo...there wasn't any mustard. I walked by all the fattening foods, though it was very difficult. Annie - Not another snow storm! We might get flurries tomorrow...but mostly just partly cloudy and cold (highs in the 20s and low 30s). When will spring ever get here? Painter - Glad to hear you're feeling better and that the doc gave you better drugs. When you mentioned "Martha Stewart on a tear with powdered sugar", I cracked up! Ceejay - If you want to see snow, you're more than welcome to come to my house. In our yard, the snow depth ranges from 4" to over 2'. Funny you say your jealous of those of us with snow. I'm jealous of those of you who are already seeing spring flowers bloom. Gotta sign off for now. Hope you all enjoy the rest of your day! |
di
I sure hope you hand feels better soon. Cee They are telling us we are going to get the worst storm every. My gosh it is a beautiful day out there lol. Painter I sure hope they find out what is wrong and fix it for you. Will keep you in my prayers. Happy That is good they are finally serving foods that don't want to kill us. Makes it much easier to eat when we aren't at home. Happy anniversary. annie You mean people know how to drive in snow there lol. I live right at the outside of the snow belt here in Ohio. You would think people around here don't drive in snow every darn winter. |
Not sure if we are supposed to get more snow. I know it was forcasted earlier in the week, but never came. Hoping that it is not too bad. Dh and I are planning on tearing up the rest of the carpet in the back (dinning/family room) and getting the new floor down this weekend. We originally wanted to do laminate, but is a little expensive for now. we are going to go witha self stick tile...it is actually a "floating floor" it sticks to itself, not to the floor. Looking forward to having a normal floor in the kitchen/dinning area. Both comp are back here so we will have a ton of moving to do first. May call my sis and see if she wants to help...misery loves company.
Kiddies seem to be fighting off a cold. DD1 has been complainin gfor 2 days and DS just started today. DD2 (not in school yet) seems ok for now...will prob get it from her sister. Well, have to call my mom will try to post tomorrow morning b4 we dismantle all the comp equiptment. Tho, will habe to leave the router and Internet connected as DH is still on call this weekend...maybe will beable to use his laptop for a min or two. Later Chicas! |
Snow, snow, let it snow. If we got snow in this neck of the woods I would know that **** has frozen over.
And while I think of it. Today is the 7th March. That means :hb: on this thread. :bday2: Now you can eat as much as you want of the cyber cake. No calories and absolute taste. :bday2you: :balloons: :woo: :celebrate: But I hear you ask, whose birthday is it? Well it is not mine. It's not Happy's since that is 2 days after mine. It is not Ruth's nor Holly's or Ceejays. I don't think it is Ellens, Michelles or Annies. So happy birthday to my dear friend the Kahurangi of NJ. Happy - life indeed is a curious thing. To think we connected on the net and have now met each other a couple of times and lived to tell the tale. If you listen to Mels 'person of stature' we are very lucky that at least one of us didn't turn out to be a cannibal or extortionist or axe murder. I'm glad to hear of the menu changes coming up in the canteen. Not before time. It will be a long slow process to change the nations eating habits and some folks just give up before they can get the population to think about what they are doing to themselves. Mel that recipe sounds good. I may just make it for the guest and son tonight for a snack. I think they are going out to dinner later. If you layer tomato, mozzarella and basil leaves you get a beautiful little salad called Caprese. Comes from the Isle of Capri and is usually served with crusty ciabatta bread and drizzled with either pesto or olive oil and is really delicious and easy to make. Tell the local store to stop FA'ing around and get the good stuff in. NZ Manuka Honey with ActiveX - supposed to be good for whatever ails you. Can't remember if that is the stuff I gave to Happy, I think it was. There is a company in NZ that is doing really good things (well according to the 'happy' users with Pro ActiveX extract for acne, rosacea and some other skin conditions. I haven't checked up on them for a while but I'll let you know what they are doing. Check the labels on that Capilano stuff, they were using a mix of Aussie honey and South American stuff. There was a big stink awhile back about the lab findings of some antibiotics in Capilano stuff. I think they are clean now. Again I will check for you. Choice magazine will have the info somewhere. Annie - drive carefully in those storms. :yikes: Folk here have trouble driving in the rain. Snow and ice would be suicidal - but still they would go out in it and make out that they are on the speedway track. Painter - :D :D :D for the pain relief at last. Good to hear that the depression is lifting too. Actually I was volunteering to send the cat over because she is really giving me a hard time at the moment. She gets very lovey dovey, sucky when I first get home, but then decides since I am still here I should go back to being the slave she would like me to be. Feed me, water me, pet me, stop stripping the bed I am in it. That sort of hard time. Diyana - I'm noticing the energy levels coming back now I am back to frequent and intensive exercise. Eating better also helps a lot. I actually quite like renovating. But this last couple of years has taught me a lot about house renovation. Make your plans, break them down into smaller goals and do ONE at a time. At one stage there I was trying to focus on two or three projects at a time. Didn't work to well and nothing seemed to get finished. I'll have the hang of it completely by the time I reach 100. Okay - time to move along. A machine load of washing has finished so I should go and hang that out, then its time to get on with the day and what a beautiful one it is too. Now watch some humbug come along and stuff it right up. Oh and before I forget, the good folks on Groote want me to go back and do a bit of training for them. No rush finish the kitchen first and we will plan the training around that!!! Gotta love some people in this life. Meantime, 2nd bedroom clear out, gardening, hedge trimming, lawn mowing, shopping. It's all on the list today. See you all a little later. |

Our winter snow is due later this afternoon. What fun that will be (not  ) I have a lot of work to do so I'm going to just hunker down and get on with it. We still have a snow shovel if needed. Will be cold tomorrow but melted by Sunday afternoon. Hope you enjoy it Ceejay :D Can't hang around here right now. Hope you all have a great day. |
Good Morning Ladies --
I went to the gym yesterday and did 45 min. of cardio and 1/2 hour of strength training - mostly legs, abs and back, and I used lighter weights when we did the arms so I wouldn't make my hand worse. I've wrapped it again today. After work, I'm going to the gym for about 45 minute of cardio, but no weights today. Ellen - You've got quite a job ahead of you with moving furniture and laying tile! Best of luck and please post a photo of your new floor! Take care of yourself. I hope the rest of your family doesn't get sick. Shad - It's so great that you've met a few of the ladies on this thread. Sounds like you had a wonderful trip to the States. I've met Happy too. And her DH and mine have some common interests too. I like your advice about house renovation about taking big projects and breaking them down into smaller, more manageable ones. I'll take that to heart so I don't feel so overwhelmed. What is Groote and what kind of training do you do? Mel -- HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Have a wonderful, wonderful day!! :bday2::bday2you::hb: Happy - Good for you for keeping a snow shovel. I'm sure it brings back such fond memories of Chicagoland weather - NOT! Gotta sign off for now. So a big "HI" to everyone! Hope you all have a great day, especially Mel! |
Happiest of Birthdays Mel....
Happy...we are in for the same weather you are. YUCK. Have a marvy Friday. Love and Hugs |
Taffy Apple Salad recipe - Only 1 WW Pt per 1 Cup serving
Here's a recipe for a totally yummy salad that a co-worker brought to our potluck yesterday. Best of all....only 1 WW Pt. per 1 cup serving!! Enjoy! :hungry::T:T:T
Taffy Apple Salad Ingredients: 6 to 8 Granny Smith Apples (cut into cubes) 8oz tub of fat free Cool Whip. 1 small package of Sugar Free Instant Butterscotch Pudding 1 Large can of Pineapple chunks/tidbits (drain and reserve the liquid) __________________________________________________ ___ Directions Mix Cool Whip and dry pudding together Add pineapple and stir Add reserve liquid until creamy consistency Mix in apples (mix well enough so that each piece of apple has a good coating of the "taffy" mixture.) Chill and serve (preferably overnight) __________________________________________________ ____ 1 cup = 1 Weight Watcher point Makes for a great, very low point yummy dessert, plus you get fruit and fiber from the apples!! I'll probably make some this weekend. :T :T |
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MELODY
:balloons: Can't blame you for sleeping in. michelle the recipe sounds really good. may have to try this one also. My sister from Mo will be here the last week of March. Can't wait to see them. I'll be going to Mo in May for my nephew's wedding. |
one last post before I take everything down. I was supposed to start earlier, but had a late night helping DH make a network cable. He was using new clips, and he kept cuting the smaller wires in the cable, so he had to keep starting over. I would have had it b4 him, except when I trimmed mine, I cut them too short, then tried to expose more wire, and I cut thru . Ah well, at least I learned that all my knowledge is not lost. I am one capable woman, I do floors, toilets, sinksnad I know how to wire. LOL Just wish I could keep the house clean, LOL Hope everyone has a wonderfull weekend! hoping I will have to comp back up and running Sat afternoon:crossed:
Later Chicas! |
Ellen
I am like you. I can do all kinds of things. My father didn't have any boys. I was working on cars, helping to wire our house and laying brick before I was old enough to learn to wear heels lol. Now, I will do anything as long as it does NOT cause me to break a nail lol. HEY we have to draw the line somewhere. di I have all those things in the house. We are going to have that after dinner tonight YUMMMMM. Take care of that hand. We already have 3 inches of snow in the last 2 hours. They are calling for 1 to 15 by Saturday night. The back of my knee is bothering me again so while I am doing the walking videos that is all I am doing. No moves just the walking holding 2lb weights. Going to give that knee a break today. Figure instead of doing two 2 mile videos and 40 min of resistance training today. I will do three 2 mile videos ( just the walking with 2lb weights ) and 40 min resistance ( upper body ) training. |
we have snow on the ground. Wish the flakes were bigger
:D |
At last Ceejay has her wish and there is snow on the ground. Now she is wishing for more. Be careful what you wish for Ceejay.
Short note today, I am going on a bit of R & R this weekend. A friend from Townsville days rung to say that her fiance was in town and she would like us to meet up. So after Body Balance class I am off to have an early lunch with her. Yesterday another friend from the very early Townsville days rung to say he is home for the weekend and can we meet up for breakfast, so that will be Sunday. On Monday I have to go down to NSW for the funeral of Chris (from down the road not Japan Chris) father. He passed away on Thursday. Chris has been my friend for a very long time and I like her Mum very much. So I've a 90 minute drive to get down there next week. Now there is a story for all of you wavering on giving up the fat fight. Chris' Dad was a very big man. He put on weight steadily in his later years. Then he had to walk with a cane because his knees buckled under the weight. From a cane to a walker and then to a wheelchair. He developed emphysema from a lifetime of smoking and little exercise, and suffered chronic back pain from the pot belly pushing the spine out of shape and aggravating an underlying scoliosis (sp) condition. Then he started to fall. Lost his balance going from the bed to the chair and he was too big for his little wife to pick up so the ambulance men had to come pick him up and dust him off. Finally he got jaundice and turned yellow and his liver failed and then his kidneys. I've seen pictures of this man in his youth and he was reed slim. Then he decided not to exercise and so developed all of the above. I say he decided because we all have a choice in these things. Sure when the kids are small and you are frantically busy it isn't easy to fit in ME TIME, but it is vital, don't put it off. So for all of you out there who don't believe that exercise and diet count or who are waivering in their belief - read the above again. He died of heart failure due to obesity and chronic liver conditions (including a couple of tumours) Lesson terminated at this point. I'll try and get back later tonight to comment, meantime time to go and sort out breakfast, gym, showers, clean clothes etc. |
SHAD...I DO WANT TO SAY FIRST THAT I AM SO SORRY ABOUT CHRIS' DAD. VERY SAD.
 HUGS AND BIG THANK YOUS TO ALL OF YOU. YOU ARE A VERY SPECIAL PART OF MY LIFE AND I WISH YOU HAD ALL BEEN HERE TODAY. THEN MY BIRTHDAY WOULD HAVE BEEN COMPLETE. JEN AND ANTOINETTE GAVE ME A BIG PARTY FOR MY BIRTHDAY. I WAS SHOCKED. RIGHT AFTER I CAME HOME FROM A BIG FOOD SHOPPING TRIP, JOHN PICKED A FIGHT WITH ME AND HAD ME FOLLOW HIM INTO THE CONFERENCE ROOM TO SETTLE IT. JUST AS I WAS BEGINNING TO YELL, HE THREW THE SLIDING DOORS OPEN AND EVERYONE STARTED SCREAMING AND TAKING PICTURES. I DAMN NEAR FAINTED! :faint: I HAVEN'T HAD A BIG PARTY LIKE THAT IN OVER 30 YEARS. I AM STILL STUNNED. WE STAYED LATE AND NOW EVERYONE HAS GONE HOME. ANT SHUT DOWN THE OFFICES AND PUT A PHONE IN OUR ROOM. WE HAD A WONDERFUL TIME. NOT GOING TO THINK ABOUT THE CHICKEN MARSALA, SAUSAGE AND PEPPERS..........:hun: I NEED A NICE HOT SHOWER AND A WEE REST. IT'S BEEN A LONG DAY. THANKS FOR ALL THE GOOD THOUGHTS. SWEET DREAMS AND GOOD MORNING SUNSHINE! :sunny: |
Mel
You deserved every last bit of this day. Goodness you are already for St patty's day. I hadn't thought about it. Shad Sorry to hear about your friend's dad. ((hugs)) It's been a good day. |
Melody
I am so glad you had a wonderful time. |
RENNIE~ I HAD SUCH A GOOD TIME THAT I'LL EVEN LEAVE YOUR CHEERLEADERS ALONE TODAY!! :cheer2:

IT WAS TINY ON MY SCREEN WITH THE BIG LETTERS AND I CANNOT IMAGINE HOW SMALL IT WAS ON OTHERS WERE YOU WHISPERING WHEN YOU TYPED??  GLAD YOUR DAY WAS A GOOD ONE TOO!!!! I AM STILL TIRED. FEELING LIKE DOING NOTHING TODAY. SO MUCH PERFUME IN A SMALL PLACE. THOSE CLOSEST TO ME WORE NOTHING BUT...............MY HEAD IS STILL REELING FROM ALL THE EXCITEMENT. I OPENED MY CARDS AND STARTED CRYING ALL OVER AGAIN. I MYSELF WILL BE DEBT FREE A LOT SOONER THAN I THOUGHT. PUTTING ALL THE $$ IN THE BANK MONDAY AND MAILING OUT CHECKS WITH NEXT MONTHS STATEMENTS. I WAS OVERWHELMED LAST NIGHT BY THEIR GENEROSITY. ESPECIALLY MY FIREND WHO GAVE ME THIS COMPUTER. I WAS GOING TO TELL HIM THAT MAYBE HE SHOULD CLAIM ME ON HIS INCOME TAX. I COULD BE ANOTHER DEDUCTION FOR HIM  HE HAS A HEART OF GOLD AND I WISH THAT OTHERS COULD SEE THAT BUT HE HIDES THAT SIDE OF HIMSELF. WELL AS THEY SAY...OURS IS NOT TO REASON WHY.. I NEED TO PUT MORE WASH AWAY AND THEN I AM DONE FOR THE DAY!!!!!!!! :encore: HAPPY SATURDAY/SUNDAY AND HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND :cofdate: |
Mel, I am so glad you had a wonderful birthday. I wish we could all have been there. :grouphug:
Snow? Anybody who wants some can come here. We had 6" overnight and it's a real blizzard out there now. I can't see the house across the street. Another 20" or more is expected before it stops! My plough guy is in heaven and has already taken one pass at my lane - not that I'm going out in that stuff today or tomorrow. Church has already been canceled for tomorrow morning! So Hershey and I are going to loaf around today with no "musts" except putting wood into the woodstove. I have two quilt tops in the works for Victoria's Quilts (quilts for cancer patients) and will do a lot of sewing if the power stays on. I do have a generator but it's outside and its cabana is under a 6" drift of snow so I'm SOL if the power goes out. Have a lovely Saturday, Worldlies, and remember that we North Americans do the time change thing tonight. Since I'll lose an hour of sleep, I just may have to work in an afternoon nap in my hectic schedule for today! |
Good morning chicks,
We got somewhere over 4 inches of snow. More than the last time 2 years back. I tried to take pictures with my cell phone but for some reason I can't send the pictures to my email account. It's heavy wet stuff that is bending the trees but looks very pretty. The sun is shining brightly and melting the stuff. Will be gone by tomorrow. Good thing because people here are real idiot drivers. If it's wet and slippery - drive faster because so you won't have to be out in it as long  Mel - glad you had such a great birthday party. Hope you don't suffer the aftereffects for too long (ie. exposure to too much perfume). It's great that you got a new computer. What a great friend you have! I just peeked in for a minute - I need to hop in the shower quickly and then we are off to pick out our new front door and then over to the Humane Society for some cat work. Have a good Saturday. Hunker down Ruthie! to the rest of the chicks PS. Did you get enough snow Ceejay? :D |
RECIPE #42.
Heat a little oil in a large skillet. Add cubed extra-firm tofu; saute3 minutes to brown, then remove. Heat a tsp oil in same skillet, add red pepper strips and a bag of frozen stir-fry vegetables. Cook 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and stir-fry sauce. Serve on 90-second rice. Sprinkle with cashews and sliced scallions |

WE ALL KNOW SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN A VICTIM OF THEIR OWN BAD CHOICES. AFTER ALL....YOU KNOW ME!!!!!!! :lol3: I WANT TO MAKE BETTER HEALTH MY PRIORITY WHETHER OR NOT I LOSE POUNDS. I HAVE SAID 100 TIMES THAT I WOULD AND I NEED TO MAKE THIS THE LAST TIME. :cheer2: 2008 FOR THE WORLDLY CHICKS :cheer2: |
Mel
WE all know someone personally that has made bad choices, OUR SELFS. I keep saying this isn't really about losing weight. This is about making better choices for our selfs. Eating in a healthy fashion and getting some exercise. The side effect is losing weight :). I am glad you had such a wonderful time. There are great people in the world. We just have to look for them. Happy Since 10:30 am yesterday morning we now have 16 inches of snow. I love it, it is sooooooooo pretty outside. Ok, it took a few hours with a snow blower and two snow shovels to get all the stuff out of my drive but what the heck that was great exercise lol. Ruth We are going to veg out in front of the tv all today and tomorrow and watch old shows and movies we love. I am going to work on my hook rug. Keep the hands busy, can't put food into the mouth is my way of thinking lol. |
Mel
Don't know how things get so small. It may be the 17 inch screen I have. Happy Yes it was enough snow. Boosted my spirits to the top Have fun looking for the new door. Thanks for reminding me of the camera in the phone. Rennie The sooner we start thinking of losing weight as a healthier life style the better off we will be. |
Morning all,
This will be another fly by until I get back from gym and breakfast with friends again this morning. DS2 is killing himself that my social life consists of early morning gym and morning meet, greet and eats. At night I sit at home and watch telly nodding off in the chair from time to time, like the oldies do! :D Mel - so pleased that you had such a good birthday. Now you can't say anything nasty about your co-workers for at least a week!!! Being debt free will be such a great feeling for you, you won't know yourself and that also means being more stress free as well. Who knows what that may do to your health! Rennie - all that snow exercise. Must be good for you. Haven't seen any additions to the little people for a while, haven't you been for a weigh in this week?? Happy - happy door hunting. Don't forget the allergy tablets will you. Let us know how the kitty kats were when you get back. Yesterday after I got home, I went out into the garden and freed up another couple of rose bushes. So far I only seem to have lost two from drought and grass strangulation. Some of them are actually recovering quite quickly and bursting into leaf again with a few buds. Two of them are actually blooming rather well and I find I have two orchids come into flower just in time for Mel's birthday - two dark red ones. They are beautiful for all the neglect they have suffered. It is amazing how tough some of these plants really are. Right, well coffee is finished, I need to go pack the gear for the after gym shower and get on my bike so I can get to breakfast on time. See ya later and take care out there in the snow and ice. |
Ceejay - I think you may have set your preferences for the smaller font. You can change the post in the Go Advanced section, but I think you will need to go to the User CP and change it permanently there. That is if you want the fonts to be bigger.
