Greetings.
Shad: So glad you made it to the loo (it seemed like a close call the way you wrote it, and with my age, slowed speed or something, I totally relate to concerns about starting THAT journey in time!!) Thanks, too for the accolade.
I am, however, bummed out that there was no weight loss (yet) this week. I've decided to switch my weigh-in day to Wednesdays. So I'm hoping tomorrow will dawn bright AND light.

Mel: Thanks for the Nepenthe cam. I was there perhaps when I was 13 and it looked JUST the same. I think my parents assumed Elizabeth Taylor would be sitting at the next table, but we didn't see anyone we recognized. (Nobody recognized ME, either.)

Happy: Glad things are on a better footing. Some acquaintences, and even FRIENDS can be dangerous to one's esteem. That's just how things seem to be. I wish you more and more confidence, yet without rigidity. Mel's advice is definitely worth taking to heart. (I still work on it.)

It rained AGAIN tonight. I'd think I was in Hawaii or someplace tropical. This could be the wettest summer in Texas ever (not that I mind.)

Any recommendations for low calorie FILLING snacks would be welcome. DD recommended split toasted English muffins with laughing cow cheese spread on each half (160 cal). And I have cold, cooked, spiced edamame beans. (I wish I knew how to sort of dry-roast them... any recommendations?

Off to my knitting.

Ruthxxx 07-11-2007 07:05 AM

Checking in and eating a ww English muffin spread with Laughing Cow. Yummy - especially with a dab of sugar free marmalade! :)

Yesterday was a WORK day in spades but the schoolwork is all judged and mounted for display. :cb: It was hotter than Hades upstairs in the Fair Hall but we survived. I got a good part of the documentation done in the PM too!

In a few minutes I'm off to Brockville to see the ortho about my frassing knee! The three shots of synovial fluid did not do a darn thing! I'm not sure what he'll recommend but it sure is a long wait for replacement. I want to do some travelling and can't really schedule anything. I may just bite the bullet and do it. Scotch and Aleve will see me through. Of course, losing 20 pounds would help but that just ain't happening. :(

Gotta dash as I'm not dressed and the appointment is in an hour with a half hour drive to get there! "See yez later!"

happy2bme 07-11-2007 08:53 AM

Warm and very humid this morning. You can't dry off after a shower and you do get the impression you are slowly melting. Ugh.

Have not been sleeping well for some reason so I'm really tired lately. Which makes me poke along and be late too which agrrivates me even further.

Sorry to hear about the knee Ruth. Is the joint worn or do you have no more cartilage? That's a terrible kind of pain. I admire you for pushing through it.

Painter - can't say that I can recommend FILLING snacks but anything with protein will stave off the hungries - a hard boiled egg (better still toss half the yokes out and make deviled eggs). An apple with a dab of peanut butter is one of my favorites. Lo cal string cheese. Baked chips and salsa. Cool, crisp veggies with a LF ranch dressing dip. I also find that the peanut flavor Fiber One bars are not only tasty but help me make that stretch between breakfast and lunch. And the extra fiber helps too. Sorry that there are no cheesy, goey, chocolately things that we'd REALLY like to eat - just have to slowly change the tastes around.

The You on a Diet book recommends eating 20 almonds or 12 walnut halves 30 minutes before your meals and you'll eat less. I have tried that and it works. It also helps if you make something that is more on the so-so side instead of spectacularly tasty

I've run out of time - sorry I can't speak to the rest. Hugs to Shad, Mel, Meadow, Carla, Holly, Madcat and the rest of the chicks.

Hi Ceejay - I see you peeking in now :D

ceejay52 07-11-2007 09:02 AM

Ruth- sorry to hear of your knee pain.

PW--I make cinnamon toast, but use Splenda instead of real sugar.

Mel--Thanks for the information about Bob. Most of this information is what is on his websight. I cancelled that memebership.

hello to every one else.

Made all but two goals yesterday. I did eat after 7 p.m. and didn't make it to the gym. My excuse was to go to the grocery store. The pedometer showed 10,198 steps or 2.7 miles. I have healthy things to eat today with very little meat. I'm leaving beef out of my menu for awhile. The doctor says I probably have some food allergies. I'm add it back in later to see. I also have to check dairy and wheat.

ceejay52 07-11-2007 09:05 AM

Hi Happy--I will try the almonds and walnuts.

Hollyhock 07-11-2007 09:16 AM

I was up, breakfasted and had washed the upstairs floors by 9am!!Still need to clean the kitchen.
The visitation last night was bittersweet. Got to see the kids of the kids I grew up with and lots of old neighbours and childhood friends. Very sad that this woman has passed. It was sudden. She felt funny and went for a nap and never woke up. She stopped breathing.
I work 11:30-7:30. I made extra BBQ chicken last night for supper for tonight for the troops. The kids will go to our regular after school sitter in the hamlet on Wednesdays now. DS is afraid of being bored. DD is thrilled. DS will be happy to be at home here with the new sitter on Thurs and Fri. He will have to adjust.DD would rather be out socializing.

Hello's to Ceejay, Ruth , Happy, PW, Shad, Miss Mel and all the other worldly gals.

Wondering if Shad has posted her North American tour pics somewhere yet????

SHAD~ MY PC TORTURES ME ENOUGH WITHOUT YOU SENDING ANY MOR WHAMMIES IN IT'S DIRECTION:rollpin: KEEP YOUR BUGS TO YOURSELF!!! BUT I AM SORRY TO HEAR THAT THE PC ACTS UP WHEN THE TWO ARE CONNECTED. Sunshine on my shoulders

Sprouted wheat bread, my newest find. Lower on the glycemic index and the body sees it as good fuel rather than sugar like the floury white stuff. It has been hot here and getting hotter every day. We have been boating and pooling:carrot:

Mel-hope your eyes are clearing:hug: I signed up for the newsletter too, can't miss it up there in the center top of the page and I was intrigued to see they will be including recipes which I just adore reading. I get cookbooks out of the library just to see what other people put together. I hope the bugs don't get comfortable in your building and the bye-bye team smokes them into oblivion without any residual mist bothering you :o:dizzy:

Shad-Oh my! I thought my computer was a frustration and all I'm dealing with is what the buttons do  I'm sorry your system is frying out. Must be a byte conversation that can't happen, trust you to get technology that can't understand one another :lol3: Sorry, with all that you need your computer for it just figures that there would be a hitch. I sincerely hope you get it sorted. Looking forward to seeing your pictures. Did you enjoy the flight over from the island into Vancouver? I bet it was a doozie ;)

Happy-I miss your mom too :^: I always enjoy hearing about her visits. We who are without live vicariously through your relationship, I hope you gave her big hugs from 3FC:hug: I'm sorry you aren't sleeping well. Lavender is my favorite solution. A little lavender oil added to your hair conditioner makes a delicious waft around you while you are sleeping. Try a fan on low blowing across you while you are sleeping, works better than the A/C and the hum is soothing. Don't melt, drink lots :D

Holly-life, never simple is it? Good luck with the new babysitter. To find someone good you often have to see what is bad out there. You aren't what other people say about you, remember that, you are what you believe. So smile hugely and enjoy your working time and the kids and all the good that comes your way.

Ceejay-way to go on the walking! I hope you figure out what the food allergy might be.

Ruth- I hope the knee gets fixed up and you feel more mobile. Good to hear work is going so well, regardless of the heat oppression ;)

Painter-lots of fruit out there for snacking. I like cutting up a watermelon into chunks and keeping it in a glass bowl and let the kids scoop out a little bowl when they are peckish. I find hubby and I are more apt to take a nibble too if it is already cut up. I too thought your journal was colourful and a wonderful idea. Did you see that movie with Queen Latifah and her possibilites book? I think she changed it to an actuality book at the end.

Carla-are you getting whistful for Shad? She sounds like she is up for another wander around with you. Are you home for awhile? Have the kitties taken to the new scratching post location? or are they going to claw your new chair to bits when it lands in "their" spot? Creatures of habit you know, beware :lol3: ;)

 Happy summer fun time for everybody :flow1::flow2:

Go Chickies, Go chickies!:cb::sunny::cheer:

Shad 07-11-2007 06:42 PM

Hiya,
Writing this on the run as I am waiting for a man (isn't that always the case?) to come and pick me up and take me off to some section of the mine so I can train his people on the job.

Holly - sorry to hear about the old friend who died. Don't know why but funerals and weddings seem to be just about the only time I get to see and talk to old friends and family. Can't think why I just don't get in touch more regularly.
I haven't yet posted any pics. I'm still working on it, but will do at least some over the weekend. It all takes time. I'm getting them prepared while I am here and will get them up over the weekend

Painter - weight loss is often difficult to pin down. That is why I measure as well. I may very well have lost inches and not lost any weight whatsoever. It's a long painful process and we have to be strong :strong: if we are to achieve and not give up because we haven't lost this week or this month.

Ceejay - Sometimes we just have to keep working on the allergies. Actually I eat little beef preferring lamb, chicken or fish or pork. It's all to do with where and how the beef is raised. Some get antibiotics and hormones to increase growth and that is one of my biggest no no's because I don't believe it is necessary.

Poor Ruth - sore knees again. Come over for the weekend and I'll prop you up in my hammock and you can soak up some gentle sun (it's our winter and not so hot) and we will rub in goanna oil - guaranteed to fix whatever is wrong with you.

Mel - waiting for the bug man. :woohoo: such excitement in our lives. See I told you we were all waiting for THE MAN.

Madcat - still keeping you in my thoughts. Hope you can update the conditions of the patients soon.

Gotta go. The man is finally here!

Shad 07-11-2007 06:48 PM

No he isn't! Someone else instead to keep me on my toes.

Meadow - sprouted wheat bread! Sounds good. I must look out for some here - well not on Groote since there isn't a bakery here - at home maybe.
No idea what is causing the problem between the computer and the external drive. It worked okay at Townsville. I will try it at home before I contact the techie - it may be power levels.

Carla has three days of work in front of her. She will be back. Meantime, I'll be in touch tomorrow as and when I can. I have a 4 hour layover in Darwin, so I should be able to log in from there.

See ya

MELODY525 07-11-2007 06:54 PM

SHAD YOU'RE WAITING FOR A MAN TO COME AND WHISK YOU OFF TO A DARK CORNER OF A MINE?? HOW LUCKY CAN YOU GET!! MINE ON THE OTHER HAND ONLY SPRAYED ME!!  AND NO....I WON'T EVEN GO THERE :lol3: :lol3: HOPE YOUR EXPERIENCE WAS MUCH NICER THAN MINE!!

IF I EVER FIND IT, I WILL TRY IT!! I THINK IT'S SPELT OR SPELDT BREAD. I REALLY MUST GIVE IT A LOOK SEE!! DOWS YOURS HAVE A BRAND NAME???

I AM WRITING TONITE CAUSE I MIGHT BE WORKING FOR THE NEXT 2 DAYS AND CANNOT BE HERE AND THERE. TOO MUCH EYE ACTIVITY. SO IF I GO MISSING YOU KNOW WHERE I AM. BE BACK OVER THE WEEKEND. STAY WELL. STAY OUT OF TROUBLE TOO!! KEEP AN EYE ON SHADDIE...SHE'S GETTING A WEE BIT FRISKY WITH THESE MEN AND THEIR BOOZY HABITS!! :belly:

MELODY525 07-11-2007 06:56 PM

Ezekiel 4:9 bread
Now sprouting in a freezer near you!
It’s not bread; it’s mythology. A nutty sandwich bread that contains absolutely no flour, Ezekiel 4:9 takes its recipe from a Bible verse that reads: " Take also unto thee wheat and barley and beans and lentils and millet and spelt and put them into one vessel and make bread of it. " In 1945, Leon, a baker at Rainier Natural Bakery in the Pacific Northwest, read that verse and said " Uh, okay, " and Ezekiel 4:9 bread was born. Leon’s recipe calls for the six grains and legumes to be soaked in water and sprouted. He adds yeast and salt, and voilà: a bread that’s high in protein (similar to that in milk and eggs), low in carbohydrates (that means you, Atkins dieters), easy to digest, and full of vitamins, minerals, and fiber. No sugar, no preservatives, no shortening, no cholesterol. And it tastes good, too.

A few years ago, after a half-century of keeping Leon’s recipe to itself, Rainier sold it to the exceedingly energetic Food for Life people, who expanded the line-up (Cinnamon Raisin Sprouted Grain Bread, Genesis 1:29 Sprouted Grain Bread), trademarked the catchphrase " The Live Grain Difference, " and got it into the freezer section at Bread & Circus. That’s right — the freezer section. (How else would you store a bread with no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives?) It toasts beautifully, and you never have to worry about using up the loaf before it goes bad.

One could even call it inspired.

Hi folks! Just visiting for a quick lurk. Can't wait for some of that yummy sprouted bread!
Another :goodscale day today - it's bound to slow or stop soon, especially since I sure would like to get me some chocolate, but I'm enjoying riding the wave. I'm at my lowest weight in 2 years, only 4 pounds more and I'm half-way to goal! :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:
Too tired for more tonight, but I should be back tomorrow. And Friday I have a massage booked - first one in over 4 years... I'll be soooo relaxed. :cloud9:

Meadow 07-11-2007 09:19 PM

 The naturally sprouted bread I've been eating says it was made without flour. It is called "Healthy Way" I have the "Flax loaf" lots of lovely little squirrel food in it :p
