Good morning all! Hope your weekend is going well. I have the commissary today and I am doing it solo since Jack got all his lunch meals at Wallie's last night. I actually don't mind shopping alone, but I have a new ID card and the picture makes me look older than Methusulah so I hate passing it around!
Jean: I post on a knitting website and one of the lady's is having a time with her 15 year old. I posted that I thought she was headed in the right direction with the punishments she had planned, that it is hard to stick to you guns when the punishment effects you as much as the child and that we are not supposed to be our children's friends, we are supposed to be their parents and teach them to grow up responsibly, etc etc. Anyway, on the second page this stupid woman with a 5 and 2 year old got all nasty about she disagreed that parents shouldn't be their children's friends. Her opinion is that parents should be their childrens' best friends and on and on. Well, now you know why stuff like all this junk happens. Parents don't want to be parents they want to be friends to their kids. Let's see when those two are teenagers and are screaming at their parents, disobeying and ignoring rules, etc if she feels the same way. Sheesh, why do parents equate being a good parent with being friends? A truly good parent is a parent not a best friend. They have enough of those. They need someone to set boundries, punishments, etc so that they grow up knowing that can't go into a building and just murder people because they are angry about something. I imagine her two are spoiled little critters. I am so puzzled by this generation of parents and their hands off parenting or lack of it actually. Why do they think a kid is going to grow up ok if they have no boundaries, no rules etc? It is sad really. I mean, look at what Susan posted about the two kids and their threats. What gave them the idea it was ok to make threats like that or joke about it? It is society's hands off let the kid do what he wants attitude.
Susan: Hope you find some neat stuff. They do have beautiful things. I do know their sizes run very small so keep an eye on that if you buy.
Well, I am going to finish up that sweater sleeve and start another strip for the blanket. You all have a good weekend!

We are birthday partying for Kolby . . . he turned 2 yesterday. Several kids were AWOL from school today -- you'd think they would skip a whole day instead of just a half. We still have all 8 periods even if they are only 20 minutes long. I'm just glad the weekend is here; next week is a full week. *groan* Prom is tomorrow night so the juniors and seniors have been hyped all week.
and very tired. I'm surprised we haven't had any copycat incidents from the VT shootings. Several of the smaller schools around us are on lock down, but our school is connected to a junior college and we use some of their classrooms plus the loading dock for taking food to the other buildings is always open so it is would be hard to have a lock down here. That whole situation is so sad! It's too bad someone didn't tune into the killer earlier and do something although I don't know what can be done until a crime is committed and then it is too late.

We left a little early this morning to shop for a new bird bath -- found just what I wanted at Earl May's . . . to the tune of $259! It wasn't even a fountain, just a heavy cement bird bath. Checked a couple other places and all they had were plastic ones which crack or break if "anything" heavy jumps up on it. We have a metal one from last year that is rusty so guess Bob will sand it down and call it good for another year. The birthday party was a huge success -- the kids played outside most of the time. They wrote on the sidewalk with chalk and all of them ended up with chalk on their backsides. The wind makes me tired and I had a hard time staying awake on the way home.
