Shad, I'm torn about the jafffas. Very tempted, but I think I'll probably decide to save that treat until I visit NZ myself. Unless of course you still have one or two tiny dusty samples rattling around in the bottom of your bag when we meet up...

I’m glad this darn week is over. Tiring even though it was a short one. But now the weekend is here. We are going to an all day wine tasting tomorrow, Saturday we are having lunch with the in-laws and Sunday we head north to see my Mom.

Shad~ I’ve had Jaffa cakes which are an English cookie version of a Jaffa candy… cookie with orange and chocolate covering. Did you often roll Jaffa candies down the hallway? If you did I am hoping you didn’t eat them afterward. There is always something a bit odd about the wind down of a project. I remember coming in one Monday and being the only person left on the left side of the floor. I’m writing your Toronto dates on my calendar.

Suzi~ have a great trip. Hope everything goes smoothly.

Carla~ Currently I'm a two-tone blonde, but I have often been red. I actually miss being a redhead. I was sassier then...

Ceejay~ Have a good trip. Drive carefully and take good care of your leg. I’m amazed that was your first ER visit. Obviously you have had good luck and good health.

Nae~ We hear you about the wake-up call. I am glad that your worked out well and that your Mom is doing better.

Meadow~ Amber shimmer even sounds like a great colour. Have a good family visit.

Mel~ Whole grains clogging up the system? Aren’t they supposed to do just the opposite? Hope it didn’t get too snowy where you were. Darn cold here. Stay warm my wee east coast friend.

Happy~ Funny I was thinking along the same lines about the pain of tracking stuff… but you are right that it is something that needs to be done. I’m going to take another look at WW online, I think. 150 calories here and there can really add up.

And Mel and Happy circle like two larks in the air… or should that be robins since it is spring?

Ok, I have to trot off. Everyone have an excellent Easter.

TOO COLD OUT FOR OUR USUAL SPRING RAINS
I WAS A SMART CHICK YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AND TURNED UP ALL THE HEAT IN THE COMMUNITY ROOM AND LAUNDRY ROOM SO NO ONE WOULD BE HERE FIRST THING IN THE MORNING COMPLAINING OF THE COLD.
MUST HAVE WORKED...NO DOORBELLS AS YET.
DARE I SAY MY FACE IS CLEARING UP AGAIN? IT'S A GOOD BEGINNING. HERE'S THE FUNNY THING...I HAD A VERY OLD FOUNDATION THAT I USED ONCE AND NEVER OPENED AGAIN. WHEN I WENT TO THE MALL I NEEDED TO TRY AND COVER ATLEAST SOME OF THE MESS UP AND FOUND THE BOTTLE IN MY ATTEMPT. I NOTICED THAT NIGHT THAT SOMEHOW MY FACE LOOKED A BIT BETTER. THEN I WENT FOOD SHOPPING AND USED IT AGAIN. SAME RESULTS. I REALIZED IT MUST BE THE FOUNDATION MUCH TO MY SURPRISE. SO WHEN I WENT BACK TO THE MALL I LOODED FOR IT...OF COURSE IT'S CHANGED. I BOUGHT ONE ANYWAY AND WHEN THIS BOTTLE IS FINISHED, I'LL TRY THE NEW & IMPROVED ONE. I CAN ONLY HOPE IT WORKS AS WELL.
STRANGE HUH? NOW WHAT COULD POSSIBLE BE IN THIS LITTLE MIRACLE BOTTLE THAT IS NOT IN ALL THE MEDS THEY GAVE ME TO TRY???? THAT WILL BE A MYSTERY!!
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND. MINE IS STARTING IN A FEW MINUTES WITH "GOSFORD PARK". I DO LOVE THAT MOVIE. MAINLY FOR THE TIME PERIOD IN MERRY OLD ENGLAND AND ALSO THE SOUNDTRACK IS WONDERFUL.
HAPPY FRIDAY!

PS....I forgot to say this is the first year I did NOT buy candy for Easter!! Surprise, Surprise!!! I bought Jen and I a little Beanie Baby chick (stuffed animal) and that was it!

Good morning chicks,

Happy Easter weekend.

There are no bunnies in the town I live in now. In fact in all the time we've lived here (over 2 years) we've only seen one bunny and that was on a nature walk. Back in Chicago we had a family of rabbits that lived in a clutch of bushes on the corner of our front yard. Every spring they'd come out and do the "bunny dance" which is the wildest thing. I'd look out in the yard in the morning and see the "Easter bunnies". I miss that... all we have is the Easter squirrels and it's not quite the same...

Mel, I figured those durn Frappachinos were going to do you in. I tried to sneak them away when you weren't looking but you had quite the death grip on them. As for foundation, I noticed my face seemed to get really oily on weekends when I don't wear makeup. I talked to one of the ladies at a cosmetics counter once and she said that foundation helps keep the moisture in your skin. It's like a protective barrier. I would have thought it's better to leave the skin natural and breathe - who'd a thunk? Because the makeup companies do switch out and constantly upgrade their products, when I find something I really like, I get 2 of them. Then I watch the shelves. When it seems like they aren't restocking a product quickly, you know it's on it's way out.

Madcat - have fun at the wine tasting and safe travels to you. Is mom all moved out of Florida now? As to Carla's comment - I remember one of your very first pictures in the original journals. Something like you peeking off from one side of a wall. You were a fabulous redhead and you looked stunning in that color. It was a shock to see you as a blonde since in my mind you are a 5'8 redhead.

Carla - I have always used whey protein in my smoothies and never had a problem. Of course I always stick them in the blender which mixes them up good. 1 scoop protein powder, 1 glass crushed ice or ice cubes, 1 carton LF or FF yogurt, 1 cup fruit of your choice and after I dump the yogurt in, 1 fill up the yogurt container with either water or juice and dump that in too. I find without some liquid, the blender seizes up and it's just too thick of a mixture. It's also too cold and induces the ice cream headache syndrome. Now this recipe makes enough for 2 people, guess you could try cutting it in half. I have not been successful in making only 1 smoothie. The more it blends, the more air it whips up and the more volume you get in the mixture.

Shad - I do think there is something to your comment about the lack of trees and rain. I chose to live in an older section of town where there are lots of mature trees. It seems when they put in a new development they just bulldoze all the trees. It looks so empty. Hate it. Hope you have a nice Easter with the family. Are you getting a long weekend?

Hope you have a nice visit with your sisters Meadow. Here's some for you. Stay away from the bunnies - chocolate and marshmallow!

Good to hear that things are going well in your part of the country Nae. Was the fish to eat or just sport fishing?

Oh my Ceejay - quite a nasty fall you took! You're already on your way no doubt but safe trip to you and have a good family get together.

We are not going anywhere, doing anything for Easter. Was a reason for a family dinner but not a holiday that I'd miss my family as much as Thanksgiving or Christmas. DH found a ham recipe that he wants to try. You can cook it with bourbon or apple cider. I'm not a big ham fan - told him to check with Boo the cat and get her thoughts. She was opting for chipmonk.

I went off the diet the last 2 days. Not a big binge but it feels like one simply because I have been trying to stick to plan. I told myself I have to get back on the wagon so as to not sabotage the few pounds I have lost. So I'll be eating my WW Pasta Primavera for lunch today instead of the mac and cheese that I'm looking at lovingly!

Going to post a recipe I made last night for Greek Chicken that I pulled off the WW site. It was good. You can add some salt and pepper for more flavor. I had the chicken and potatos and made a tossed green salad with some red and green bell peppers, sliced cucumbers, tomatoes and a sprinkling of some pre-packaged cheese bits - feta, provolone and parmesan. Topped it off with a light Italian based dressing. The combination of the flavors was quite good. We really enjoyed it.

I started this post early in the morning. Here is is almost past lunchtime and I'm just getting around to posting.

Hellos to Hooly and the rest of the crew... Happy Easter to you all!

Ok, so maybe I'm getting soft in my old age but I think this news story is kind of sad.

100 Year Old Rockfish Caught in Alaska

I mean, this old gal was between 90 to 100+ years old. With a belly full of babies. And she had the misfortune to be caught in a fishing net. Now she'll get her picture taken and probably be chucked into the garbage can. Couldn't they have tossed her back into the sea from the boat? Just seems like such a waste. Humans are inconsiderate...

Default Greek Lemon Chicken and Potatoes

I used chicken tenders (thin sliced chicken breast cutlets) instead of thighs.

The recipe is 8 WW points per serving. Since I used leaner chicken breast meat, I think I might be able to shave off a point or two. I'm sorry that I can't translate this to metric measures.

Ingredients

1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup FF chicken broth
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 medium fresh garlic cloves, chopped fine
2 tablespoons dried oregano
1-1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs (about 8). I used 1 pound of chicken tenders or you can use thin sliced chicken cutlets.
Non stick cooking spray (like Pam)
1 pound small red potatoes sliced in half

Instructions

Place lemon juice, broth, oil, garlic and oregano in large resealable plastic bag or medium sized glass bowl. Wash and add chicken. Seal the bag or cover the bowl and marinate at least 2 hours or overnight in the refrigerator. (I marinated for 2 hours, I think the lemon flavor gets stronger the longer you marinate).

Preheat oven to 350F degrees. Coat a 9 x 11 inch pan with cooking spray. ( didn't bother with this as I used stoneware that has a non stick surface).

Place the chicken and the marinade in the pan. Scrub the potatoes and slice them in half or quarters if they are large. Add potatoes to the chicken pan. Bake for 1 hour or longer until potatoes are soft.

Serve with a green tossed salad with vegetables and a vinagrette type dressing.

Serving size is 2 chicken thighs or 1 breast and 5 potato halves.

Happy, your recipe sounds delish. Don't worry about the non-metric measurements. I can't speak for the Australian contingent, but here in Canada we cook mainly in imperial measures. If you had converted, we'd just have to convert it back... We usually drive in metric, and revert to fahrenheit for temperatures when we think 100 sounds more impressive than 40... We give height and weight in pounds and inches. (It's possible that the younger generation is all metric, but I doubt it.)
I agree about the fish story - that kind of thing always gets me all choked up.

Ceejay, once you get used to a laptop, you never want to go back. If you find the mousepad hard to work with at first, you can always plug a mouse into the laptop.

Mel, I think you got it in one as far as the avatar chicks are concerned. Unless of course it's you and me fighting over the easter chocs...

Happy Easter to all the worldly chicks! (Here's some virtual goodies, a backyard bunny for Happy, and special attention to those who like to eat the ears first...)

Would one of you computer experts please tell me how to insert a picture in the middle of my post? I keep trying, no success. And the attachments don't look good, nor can I place them where I want...

I set up an account with Photobucket. (It's free) That would be wwwDOTphotobucketDOTcom - That's where I upload my pictures. Once uploaded I copy the link marked IMG Code and paste that into my post. This way you don't have to worry about 3FC picture sizing restrictions although you want to make sure the picture isn't TOO big. We had that happen once and it messed up the thread for several people.

Here's an example of what I was talking about. Make sure you copy the entire image link with first and last brackets.

Hope that helped.

Had this post all sorted and was doing some java updates at the same time and clicked finish on some wizard or other. This action managed to remove all my carefully worded post. sheeeeeez.

Back to square one.

Carla, I manage to do much the same as happy reqarding pics. I tend to use the little icon with the mountains on it and paste the address to the image in there. Works for me.

Happy, I do like the sound of that recipe. I may just give it a go when I get myself sorted out. We are completely metric over here, however I'm old enough to be able to remember the other stuff (imperial measurements) and have just enough marbles left to convert. 1lb equals 500g and 1 oz is 25g near enough - anyway the best cooks seem to measure by eye and just slosh it in and wait for the miracle to occur.

Just me and the cat here at the moment. DS2 has been invited to Easter over with the neighbours at some campsite near Warwick or Girraween National Park. He is so bored with just sitting around. He'll be a lot better next week when he can start putting some weight on that foot. Hopefully be off crutches by the time I get back from Townsville for good. Miss Puss is delighted to be home but she is a pain (literally) with those claws. I will have to clip them tonight.

Regarding the Rockfish, Happy. As I first read it, I was feeling angry for the Rockfish, but a short while back, I watched a program about deep sea fishing and the outcome of that was that when they drag these creatures up from the deep in nets, a couple of things can happen. First the fish in the middle of the nets can be suffocated through lack of oxygen through the gills - little water movement or restricted water movement due to the squishing of fishy bodies in a closing net - and secondly when deep sea dwellers are bought to the surface a couple of physical changes can occur. These creatures are used to the pressures of the deep and when the water pressures decrease as they are brought to the surface the eyes, brain and internals can expand. In some cases the eyes bulge out of their sockets and this causes intense neurological pain and sometines death. Death is the kindest release. It is possible that she could not have been thrown back.
I happen to agree that this creature should have been allowed to live out her life doing her bit to save her species. We have to eat. There is a moral dilemma here. I'm all for fish farms and cultivating the varieties so we don't have to go to sea and deplete the oceans. Deep sea farms might be something else tho'
Having no bunnies (live bunnies) around may be a blessing. Here in the semi outback, they are devastating crops and farmland and competing with native animals for food. Somehow a a humane way needs to be found to control the population - mind you in my opinion the same could be said of the human race.

Mel - my second rooster has just turned 35. He is not matured properly yet and thinks with other parts of the anatomy and not just the brain. He has had a bit of a tough time growing up, hence the immaturity. His sister who is also a close frient of mine has been trying to help him out. There are three women in his life who have tried to make the most of him in the last six months or so. He is still making strange decisions. He may live to regret this decision. Or he may not. I've done what I can to help out. I can't do any more than that. In the final analysis we live by our own choices, no one holds a shotgun to our heads. In this case, I just have to stand back and let what will be, be. I've pointed out the pitfalls. He has said that he will return to Melbourne at the end of the month - but only to pack up and try to move up to Queensland permanently - he likes the weather. Oh yeah!
As for the foundation - does it have a label on it which states the ingredients? Sometimes they do. Try checking out the ingredients on the net and so if any of them has healing properties.
Happy says her foundation has moisturiser and fixes oily skin. Umm errr.... is that an oxymoron. I have oily skin, thats part of the reason I only need a very light moisturiser on cheeks and forehead - put it anywhere else and havoc breaks out. I think I have the oldest teenage skin in the world.

Madcat - I am bringing over a couple of packets of Jaffa's for you all to try. No these ones will not have rolled down the aisles. We did that as kids particularly in the scary parts of a horror movie. Drop the jaffas down the stairs and hear everyone jump and scream. Waste of good jaffas when I think back on it now and they were so much bigger then too, or is that my imagination. Everything was bigger back then or was it because I was littler?

Right, Miss Puss has stalked off in a huff because I am taking no notice of her. I need to get moving too. Time for the gym this morning. I had a call from them last week asking about renewing my membership. I told them I wasn't simply because I am away from home and on minesites and things for a good part of the year and it is no longer cost effective even with being able to freeze membership for three months at a time. She is looking into a deal for me, so I will go and find out what they have cooked up. Must be that they are losing some members and need to keep what they have to stay afloat!!! Otherwise I wouldn't be targeted like this.

See you all later.

We have a few inches of new snow, on top of the snow from yesterday. We are supposed to go to the park for an egg hunt but may skip it. It is pretty fluffy snow but I dont want to drive for an hour in it.
Puttering to do here for the morning. Need to make a veggie tray and prep everything for a ceasar salad.

Shad- I see your dates for Toronto will be June 10-14. I will let Ruth know too.

We had a lamb dinner at my folks yesterday. The battle axe brigade were very well behaved and it was enjoyable. They were getting into the wine but we left before any fireworks.
Going up to hubby's bro's at 1pm today. We will have a ham and scallops dinner there.

I am going to do a treasure hunt for some Easter presents for the kids here tonight for the morning. I picked them up each a CD, some jeans, runners....

I have slept til 8:30 the last 2 days. Usually i am up at 6:30. Feels good to let my body decide when to wake up.
HUGS!!
