  • No, no. Jaffas are a hard shelled orange flavoured chocolate candy that make a very satisfying noise as they roll down uncarpeted stairs. Mind you they are too expensive to do that now!

  • So, Shad, I take it you'll be bringing along an extra suitcase filled to the brim with jaffas? The modern equivalent to beads and trinkets to calm us unruly natives...
    Big Sur it is.
  • I had to pop in and see you all again before I left. I am trying to waste a little time too .
I leave in about 1 hour for the airport by taxi but realised I am going to be very early as my flight is 1/2 an hour later than expected. That's ok though, quite like airport browsing and never seem to get the time as we are always in a rush.
There is also a bit of commotion going on now at the air port with new regulations so it pays to have a little time, anything in a bottle, liquid needs to be in a snap lock bag and nothing over 100mls on the cabin. I think I am ok, I put everything into snap locks for just in case.
I just learned something today thanks to Carla, about the smilies and the cursor, i never knew that if you put the cursor over them you would see what they were, I have always had to go down the list, very clever.
I love all the new easter avatars, they are so cute. I want one. I might need to look. I am sick of looking at me!

    I just love that one.
Mel you didn't miss me, I'm here. Isn't it funny sometimes I barely get a glimpse here and other weeks I get loads of time. I like your philosophical thinking. By gum I think you've got it!

really hungry but too nervous to eat. I might wait until I have processed everything at the airport. Very excited.
Must fly and have that last cuppa xxx
be safe and have a lovely easter...not too much choccy!
roll out the jaffas ( thank you shad on the explanation )
  • I might add for the edification of those who don't know about Auckland and the Aucklanders, a JAFA is the acronym for 'just another f* Aucklander. Used widely by the rest of the country.
The standard joke about the city is:
Q: How do you tell an Aucklander that they have a problem (this occurred when they were having power problems and blackouts)
A: You can't tell and Aucklander anything - that's why they have a problem.

Gotta go. Duty calls. Can't sit here and chat all day.
Carla did you want some jaffa's too? Happy is going to try some.
  • SHAD~ THAT DESCRIPTION OF THE AUKLANDER SOUNDS LIKE THE WEEHAWKENER THE TOWNIES HERE MUST BE RELATED TO THEM SOME HOW. SO GLAD I DIDN'T TRY AND ROUND UP THOSE STARGATE PEOPLE NOW. WOULD HAVE BEEN A MOST DIFFICULT SEARCH ANYWAY BEING THEY ARE FANTASY.....ALTHOUGH I LIVE IN A FANTASY WORLD MOST OF THE TIME I SHOULD THINK I WOULD HAVE RUN INTO ONE BY NOW.

CARLA~ ARE JAFFAS ON THAT NEW PLAN OF YOURS??? DON'T RECALL ONE THAT HAS THAT SPECIFIC SNACK NEED

SUZI~ HOPE THE TRIP GOES WELL. CALM THE BUTTERFLIES IN THE TUMMY AND OFF YOU GO

I CAN ALMOST FEEL HAPPY BEHIND ME OR MAYBE SHE WILL TYPE FASTER THAN ME AND POST FIRST
WET AND WILD AND WOLLY OUT THERE TODAY. MAKES YESTERDAY SEEM LIKE A DREAM. WILLY MIGHT BE RIGHT. THERE IS A STORM COMING AND THE NJ NEWS THIS MORNING IS CALLING FOR SNOW FLURRIES LATER ON IN THE WEEK OR WEEKEND. TEMPS ARE DROPPING FROM HIGH 60'S TO LOW 30'S. WTF
TRIED ADDING A BIT OF WHOLE GRAIN BREAD TO MY DIET BUT IT IS ONLY CLOGGING UP THE PLUMBING. SO TODAY IS DE-CLOG DAY. ALREADY TOOK THE DREADED DULCOLAX AND WILL SPEND THE DAY WITH THE PROCELAIN QUEEN NOTHING ELSE IS PLANNED. PUT THE SIGN ON THE DOOR FOR DO NOT DISTURB. MAYBE I SHOULD HAVE PUT A GIANT TOILET PIC UP INSTEAD
    HAPPY WEDNESDAY!! ENJOY!!
  • Carla - love your new avatar!!!!!!!

Glad you decided on Big Sur Shad, although after seeing some of the pictures of your coastal areas, not sure it will be as impressive to you as it was to those of us more used to concrete and steel instead of nature at it's finest.

As for WW online... at first I groused about all the work involved in tracking. Then I reminded myself that I can't stand needy whiners who complain all the time - Snap out of it! They have an online tracker. Makes it easy to look up foods or calculate points based on nutrion labels. I am drifting to the idea that if I can't track it, I shouldn't eat it. I like the online tracker a whole lot. Sometimes a seemingly innocent lunch can turn into more points than one thinks - with the online tracker you can see turn things around and save the day. Sure does explain why you aren't losing weight when you "think" you've been doing a good job. I'm glad now that I joined WW online - it's worth the 16 or 17 dollars a month. But like anything - you have to work the tool to make it work for you.

Did you get bad weather last night Ceejay? I washed the sticky sap and pollen schmutz off my car late last night as it was getting nightfall. Could see lightning in the skies in the distance. DH came home from billiards - we covered his car and moved some boxes in the garage and he pulled my car in. We didn't get hail (or tornadoes) but it did pour for a few hours. Quite the light show last night. It's about 20 odd degrees colder today and will be through the Easter weekend. Crazy weather. Glad we didn't plant yet.

Hello Mel - I can feel you flying above me - watch those Frappachinos

    Hello to the rest.
  • See - I KNEW you were watching over my head lady - just glad you ain't a bird
  • HAPPY YOU'RE LUCKY MY GRANDSON DIDN'T DO THE MORNING RUN YET!!! PLOP! PLOP!!
WW SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD IDEA AND I AM GLAD IT'S WORKING OUT FOR YOU.
I WAS JUST WATCHING THE WEATHER CHANNEL AND SEE YOU GUYS ARE STILL GETTING BAD WEATHER? OR IS IT JUST ON MY MAP....
ANYHOW IT'S HEADED UP OUR WAY AND WILL MIX WITH THE COLD FRON SHOOTING ACROPSS THE UPPER STATES AND LOWER CANADA. SNOWING LIKE A S.O.B. UP THERE ALREADY!!! WTF!!!
    HAVE A GREAT DAY!!
    TO CEEJAY!! STAY DRY
  • Happy--The weather men put our county under a tornado warning just as I got home from work. One touch down about 30 minutes drive from here. It rained and a great lightening show was about all we had. My neighbors came over so I was not alone. We had our flash lights ready to go just in case. Glad the WW on line is working out for you. I'm a whiner. I've been doing good by just doing the pyramid so many fruits, veggies, etc.

No gym last night because of the storm but tonight I'll be going. The alarm clock went off this morning but I didn't get up. The leg I hurt was really aching. It is really sore and still swollen. Last night I had a low degree temperature. I hate to spend 100 dollars for emergency room care but since my doctor is still out of town on vacation I may relent to this. I just don't feel right going to another doctor. I'd like to have it x-rayed. He'll be back on the ninth.

It's 20 degress cooler today and we may have frost over the week end. This north wind is cold.

I'm getting excited about my trip to Springfield, Mo.

Hello to Holly, Madcat and Carla.
  • My first trip to the ER and I’m 56. I really wanted to have my leg x-rayed before I went on my trip today to Springfield, MO. and I’m glad I went to the ER. The x-ray showed that I do have some torn cartiledge and a hematoma. I’m to take a baby aspirin per day for 4 weeks and keep a heating pad on my leg when I’m sitting with my leg propped up. My doctor is on vacation and I assumed that he had someone to cover for him but didn’t know which doctor. When I called my doctor’s office the message said to use the ER.

Looking forward to my drive today. I don’t have a single thing packed and not really sure how to pack. It’s supposed to get cold again this week end.

Still have not received any more news about Whitney, my uncle’s grand daughter. No news is good news. I’m suppose to call them tonight when I reach Springfield.

Ugh, the price of gas still continues to climb. The price of gas last night was $2.67. It’s just not fair to raise the price of gas on a traveled week end.

I need to get up and get busy. I still need to wash a couple of loads of clothes, straighten the house, pack and run a few errands. Can I do all of this before 11 a.m?

No time to comment. If Libby, my niece, will let me use the computer I'll be back sometime this week end.
  • Happy Easter Everyone!
I have been doing a bit of keeping up with you all but no time to sit and post. People traveling and makeing plans, isn't spring great! The tricky weather is something to contend with on the odd day it is off but on the sunny bird singing days it is glorious to be reminded of Spring and the summer to follow. Shad, Suzi, Ceejay all traveling or planning a trip good luck and safe journeys to you all. SHad coming over the pond to see more of the states and visit with some of you is so exciting........
Love being in Oz for April.... I have some great memories of hiking in the Blue Mountains and down at Wilson's Prom. Also going through the rainforst up at Dorrigo that is as far north as I got. So much to see and it is a great country to travel, good transportation, friendly people and much to do, I would encourage anyone to go...... it is worth it in many ways.

Seems to be lots of motivation on the site for losing weight and being more heart healthy. Ladies, after being in the heart hospital waiting for my mom the cold hard reality is that we just don't give our heart enough credit or the tender care it requires to remain healthy. OUr society the consumer end of it is just at odds with it in many ways. I commend each of you for trying to make better choices in whole grains, fruit and vegetables and fish choices...... I got the education of a lifetime and a shock. I have been wondering where is Teel these days and how is her health... and the others we care about on the other side of this globe....come say hi to us... let us know how you are doing.....

My mom came through last weekend on her way home and is doing well. She is very tired but her heart is improving daily she needs to just increase her activity slowly. The nurses said to my sis and I we better hope we inherited her genes, they were impressed by her vitality and energy after the operation.

I would love to have the fast recipe that one of you did on the last thread, sorry I can't remember who it was..Ceejay was it you? Iwould like to get a copy when ever you have time to share it.....

My BF is still in the picture and we are both having lots of company so we aren't spending much time just being together. I did accomplish one of my goals and that was to catch a steel head fish out of the Salmon River and I did it! What a thrill, more fishing this weekend I get to met his son and grandson are coming for a couple of days.....
Relationships are so tricky now days I think.... maybe it is just my age but it seems like we have such unrealistic expectations that is brings unnecessary barriers into the mix.

I have been working some nights and graveyards helping my friend Jeff who is a quad from a cycle accident.... Prayers for him... it is not difficult but requires a broken night's sleep to assist him. I worked last night and couldn't get back to sleep after my 4:30am shift....

Mel you seem to be hanging in there even with the drama that seems to surround your helpful hands..... Happy Easter to all and the children.... Pray for Peace and the safe journey for all who travel.... Many Blessings all!

    Peace,
    Nae

  • Just sitting

May the Easter Bunny shine on you all with lovely deviled egg sandwiches and a beverage with a twisty straw and a cute character on it Chocolate?! just say NO! *do as I say, not as I do Congratulations to everyone who is persevering and succeeding. I send you much good vibes

I haven't been very motivated to slim of late. Been having toast with blue cheese on top (mucho milk fat!) for lunches, with a lovely cup of tea. Watch Bargain Hunt and grin at David Dickenson's comments. He is such a dandy! So yeah, I covet some of his clothes too. I coloured my hair, Amber shimmer, from Clairol Herbal essences. A tad orange but I like the shine My sisters are coming up this weekend for a visit, going to be great to shoot the breeze with them. It has been sunny here the last few days, still a bit nippy, but the tulips and hyacinths are peeking through.

Fat and holding a cup of tea, watch out, I'm reading feminist literature too.

  • Morning all from sunny warm Brisbane.
Back home for the long weekend. Thought I might get a little cloer to help us move from the treetops to the big rock.

It's Easter - so...... Happy Easter everyone. It's cooling down here in the mornings so we are well into Autumn now. It's the best time of the year for those who live in the tropics. Cool nights, warm days. Not that it actually gets much different between now and about November. Still no rain around this area. Much lamenting and weeping and wailing. It's forgotten how to rain! Bring back the trees!!! Only happened since Labor got into power! Who let the developers loose! Yeah well.

Yesterday half the project team left our project. My friend James has gone for a holiday to Germany and Big Brian has surgery scheduled. There is only a few of us left - including the tfg. He and Mighty Mouse go at the end of the month and then there will only be three left on the training team until the 11th May when we all go away and leave Paradise (as they say) My two roosters are now finished. One has gone home to Perth and will start another project soon. He is on his way. The other is not yet thinking straight and is staying here with the new love. I'm not happy about it and told him so - if he wants to make a career out of project work and training he needs to get experience and fast. It's okay for me, my reputation is out there for all to see, he is only just beginning. I can take a holiday when and where I want and still have work to come back to. He needs to get known. Anyway it is his decision. He must stand or fall by his choices. Both the roosters gave me a kiss goodbye and one gave me flowers, the other red wine. I am indeed blessed.

So today is Good Friday. I'm not going to be doing much today. Thought I might just bum around and do a bit of gardening and a bit of housework and a bit of plastering in the flylady manner. Much can be accomplished in 30 minute stints. Might even get to a bit of sanding. Tomorrow I need to check out the doctor and see if I can get a repeat prescription for the fluid tablets, go to the gym and do some shopping for food for the next three days. My friend Chris from down the road has asked me to dinner tonight, but I think I might say no and try for later in the weekend. DS2 is bringing the car around for me to use this morning.

Ceejay, welcome to the world of weekend gas prices. We have been living with this for years. Every single time there is a long weekend or break, the price of fuel goes up from the Wednesday before the long break. It never comes down until the next normal weekend either. The oil companies say it is not their fault, but there is just too much coincidence and quite frankly Governments anywhere do not appear to be able to act on anything against the oil companies. Big scam I say. Hope that little girl is now on the improve.

Mel. Hope those eyes are coming right. In the meantime rest them. Find some beautiful view and watch it gently to get the full picture and beauty. Peace in your soul my friend. Don't forget I am with you on the 7th June for dinner. Or maybe it is my shout and we can eat out somewhere. Whatever, we will decide a bit closer to the time. Toronto will be the 10th to either 13th or 14th depending on the train booking, so there's the dates for the eastern Canada variety. Further details coming soon. I have to send Shane the last of the booking info this weekend - he tells me he is now too old to work hard - like working weekends - huh, he is not much older than my two sons.

'Nae - so good to hear from you too. Relationships are tricky. I think being open and honest about things is the only way to go. Say it as it is. Unfortunately some of the men of our age group don't actually understand independence and the need for time alone. They seem to think in terms of ownership and dedicated duties I have found. No need to be joined at the hip fellas. It's called give and take syndrome.

Okay, I am rambling in my head. The coffee is finished. I need to shower and check out the yard and then decide on my day. I'll be back.
  • Shad, it sounds like the worst of your project is over (apart from the tfg, of course). Unless of course you'll be double and triple booked to make up for the others leaving? Or will you be moving into a nice calm phase where you'll have days with just one short training session booked? (I always think of the short days as freebies, even if we work extra hard while on duty.)
For your TO-Calgary flight, make sure you look into flying via WestJet. It's much cheaper this June than AC, according to TravelZoo.com which sends me travel bargains weekly, and was quite a pleasant travel experience the one time I flew with them. I think they have several non-stops TO-Calgary every day.

Mel, sorry to hear the eyes are acting up again. Is there a link with the frappucinos? Or maybe those pink demon bunnies??
We had a few snowflakes here today. I assume you're freezing too? At least the cold keeps the pollen count down, right? Have a restful weekend!

Meadow, lovely to hear from you! You sound quite contented, although I take it all the feminist literature has left you a little feisty... and now you're a redhead to boot... I sense a trend here. Happy's a redhead too, if I'm not mistaken, and for some reason I think of Madcat as a redhead too. Maybe we should all go out and buy a bottle of the same colour. It could be like the secret Masons' handshake, a perfect way for us worldly chicks to recognize each other wherever we roam... Hmmmm I seem to be babbling.

Rose, congrats on the nice fish! Did it become dinner, are you having it mounted, or are you a catch and release kind of gal? (My ex was a fisherman - imagine my shock when I found out he thought catch and release applied to wives as well... ) As for the boyfriend, it sounds like you've moved on from the whirlwind of new love to making it work for the long haul. Good luck to you both - it is nice to have someone more articulate than a cat to come home to. Of course cats don't expect you to serve them a hot meal every night...

I'm feeling somewhat disgruntled - the return to eating a little bread and rice seems to have caused a rebound of two pounds upward. But that's still a net loss of 7, and I'm trying not to let myself get discouraged. There's still no reason I can't hit my short-term goal by Shad's arrival in San Fran if I don't go off the rails. I'll have to stay out of drugstores until they've liquidated all the bargain-priced leftover easter chocolate...

Mel, I forgot to thank you for the tip on better smoothies. It did make a difference, and next time I'll use all ice cubes for the fluid part. I do think the whey powder I'm using is part of the problem, and I'll get something from GNC next time, should be better.

Happy Easter to all the chicks. I'm off to visit the difficult stepmother for two short days, hope to return only lightly mauled... I'll try not to give into the usual urge to self-medicate with wine and chocs.
