Arrow Wednesday

GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIASI hear the pitter patter of the rain on the roof. I ♥ the rain. I always have loved rain. And we get the prettiest rainbows here. I am still not feeling tip top. Nothing bad but just uckie. No ambition and slight headache. I wish I could shake it. Maybe it is a low grade of something going around. It has been a hungry week also which hasn’t helped my program at all. For the main meal today I am making fajitas and a fruit salad. I have fresh apples, oranges, mandarin oranges pears and bananas. No for they are still too stinkin’ high. Guess we don’t have any local at this time of the year and we get them from far away places like Chile ~ so we have to pay the freight. When the price comes down I like to freeze some to have as a snack on those hot summer days we will be getting one day.

JEAN Sounds like you have a bunch of lazy sophomores that don’t plan on getting a job so why bother with an assignment like that. Sad to see that happening for they should eagerly look to a career at that age. I remember my 6th grade teacher telling us of a whole variety of jobs we could aim for. She brought in nice show and tell things from different companies and peeked our interest. If I had heard about Jacque Cousteau back then I think I would have become a diver. I loved to swim and when I heard about him I was already in a career and felt too old to make that sort of change. You can only dive for so long and I wouldn’t have had that much time left. I later knew the wife of the man who ran the computer that ran the ship Gloomier Explorer. He dived and brought back huge shells which she gave to me. I had a huge killer clam shell ~ top and bottom. He had eaten the clam. I did learn to surf and frolic in the ocean and was a life guard but I would have loved to have been a diver. Frozen biscuits eh? Never tried them and they don’t sound too appealing.

FAYE Having a heat wave are you? The 60° temps are wonderful ~ especially this time of the year. As I type it is Noon o’clock and 54°. And raining, lightly raining, the best kind. Sounds like your car will be rebuilt and ready to go a lot more miles when you get all that work done on it. Your knitting reminds me of a book I once read in school, “Tale of Two Cities.” The lady, Madam Lafarge, I believe was her name, knitted secrets into her garments. WOW I reached way back for that one into my youth when I read that one for school. My weigh in is tomorrow and I don’t think it will be a pretty sight. My week has been one of those that I didn’t even want to track but I did stick to my mantra to “write what I bite” and it is all there for my records. If I do show a loss I won’t have a clue why. I wish for you a good showing come Friday when you weigh in. I am sure your week has gone much better than mine.

Everyone have a lovely day.

Good Evening, Flowers! It's been another cold and cloudy day . . . so what else is new?! Diversity Day turned out better than I anticipated simply because I didn't have to be in charge of any speakers nor students this year. For once I didn't come home with a headache.

We went to a funeral visitation as soon as Bob got home from work and then I had bells at 6. Ate a quick supper, watched a bit of TV, and here I am. For some reason I am tired tonight.

Tomorrow we will go play with Ian and Zowie while Amanda has her gall bladder removed. It will be a busy day!

"Gma" -- I thought dogs kept their teeth clean by eating crunchy dog food and chewing on biscuits/bones. Whenever we have rented a car, it's always made me glad to get my own car back again. Good luck at weigh in!

Maggie -- I wish it would rain here! They are predicting more snow during the next week. Good luck at weigh in; I hope you are surprised! I know that when I thought I'd have a gain I either maintained or lost a bit. When I thought I'd had a good week, I'd gain. No rhyme nor reason to this weight game, that's for sure.

I need to regroup for tomorrow so have a nice evening and a terrific Thursday tomorrow! I am off and running . . . er, make that walking!

Jean -- from Iowa!

GOOD EVENING MAGNOLIAS

I am one dissappointed camper ~ we had a blow out on the way to class tonight and have to go get new tires tomorrow so I will miss WW. That means I won't get to take my hit tomorrow and will have to work realy close to the line this coming week to show a loss next week. Such is life. And life is good.

JEAN That is nice that your day went well. I hope that Amanda comes out fine with her operation. I hear now days they make a very small opening whereas when I had mine out they left a nice long scar down my front which matches the one in my back from my operation. Looks like someone ran a sword through me. But how cares I don't wear a bakini. Have fun with those kids. I am sure they will run you ragged but it is worth it isn't it. They grow up to fast as it is. Cherish you time with them.

Type at you later

Good morning everyone! Chilly here, but not unmanageable. I want spring, though.

I have been keeping up with my walking everyday, but sure do have a sore kneecap. I didn't do anything to it, but is has been sore. It bothers me when I begin my walk, but then it does go away. I have more trouble just walking around in the house. I will be glad when there is enough weight off to ease up on my joints. I come downstairs in the morning feeling like I am about 100 years old.

Maggie: Oooh, sorry you are going to miss WW. I am sure you will be great next week though and hope you feel right as rain again and the headache and such is gone. Nothing like feeling blah to make you want comfort food.

Jean: I had a laparoscopy (sp) with my gall bladder and I can't say I enjoyed it, but you are up and around almost immediately. They make three incisions only about an inch across, one through your navel then two higher. I only have a scar from the higher one and the other two are gone. I walked not long after coming to my room, I would get out of bed and go to the bathroom by myself without help and when I came home I was good to go in a couple days no long recuperation time like the cutting across stuff. I am giving Amanda my good wishes and prayers and you too that you will survive the little ones! Put on those track shoes! I thought the same thing about dog biscuits and Fortune gets one everytime he goes out and goes to the bathroom, but I guess there are only certains types that clean the teeth, who knows? I hear everyone talk about "Greenies" which are expensive, but I have also heard horror stories about them shredding like bones would and killing animals when it gets stuck in their throat or can't be digested so I don't take the chance.

Maggie, oh WW recipe genie, do you have a recipe for banana bread or muffins so I can use up these two ripe bananas I have? I used one a couple days ago for banana pancakes and another for a smoothie, but thought some banana muffins might be nice for a change. I would be the only one eating them as Jack hates banana, but I could free the extra slices or muffins.

Have a great day girls. I am going to finish the other sleeve today and get that sweater put together. I don't know if it will be this weekend, but the first of the week at the latest. Looks like I have 2 skeins of the camel left and over ordered a bunch on the peach sleeveless sweater I am making for myself too, so I found a really simple no button cardigan and I think I may make it with the leftovers putting in some camel stripes then pairing it with the sleeveless sweater for evenings when it gets cooler. If I used the same ribbing for the cuffs and bottom and do it all in stockinette instead of the pattern that is used for the sweater body, it should look more like a sweater set. Whatcha' think???

Have a great Thursday girls and keep your chin up. Hopefully in a few months I will have less chins to keep up!

Good morning! A really hectic morning, I might add. Came in and found one of the heating units was leaking so had to find a mop and bucket and call the boss to get someone out. Then the database took a nose dive and we had to restore a backup so lost 2 hours work. But I am thankful it was this morning and not quitting time when we'd have lost a whole day.

Stan had to go for a renal panel this morning, preparatory to going to the doctor tomorrow, and they hadn't faxed the order down yet so that took longer than anticipated.

Faye, I sympathize with you knee problems. My hip has quit hurting since I have been going to Curves so I am thankful. I must have done a little too much yesterday though because I have a really sore gluet on the right side. I wish I could work standing up.

Maggie, the frozen Pillsbury biscuit are much better than the stuff in the refrigerated cans. They have the taste and texture of homemade.Je I'd rather do them from scratch, but don't always have the time.

Jean, I hope Amanda has done well. My stomach looks like a roadmap from 4 intestinal blockages, one kidney operation that literally cuts you in half, gallbladder and appendix. I have a big cross - hip to hip and then about 12 inches up and down...and I no longer have a belly button. But my bikini days are long gone and I'd rather be alive.

Weighing in this afternoon but I don't expect there will be much off. I feel bloated...had pasta for dinner last night.

Arrow Thursday

GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS

Actually I just looked at the clock and it is a bit after 12 noon. It is a tad on the cool side but bearable at 53°. I am sticking home while Will goes and gets tires. Something we don’t want to buy right now but that is the way it goes when you need em you gotta get em. Baby needs new shoes. We still love that car and plan on having it many more years unless we see a great deal on a used Jeep. I am feeling more back to exact today and ready to gear up to a nice OP week eating wise and exercising. This exercising is a new thing for me. I used to get it while working but since I have been retired it isn’t so easy to get it naturally. Got to do it on purpose. I used to be so in shape ~ why oh why did I let myself get into this shape I am in now. Who knows and I can’t cry over spilt milk. Got to go from here and do something about it. Not just think about it but DO about it. There I have given myself a lecture. UPS just delivered my new Panini maker from Chef’s Catalogue, what fun what joy. The grids flip to smooth so it is a very useful appliance. You can also do meat on it and it doesn’t steam the meat as it grills it. And it is small enough for this little space we have. I had a larger one that I gave to a friend because it was just to big for in here but it was a good one.

FAYE Here is one of my favorite Banana Muffin Recipes. I keep some of that horrid All-Bran cereal on hand just to make these when I have a real ripe banana. (For these muffins use only shredded bran cereal, not bran flakes or powdered unprocessed bran.) This recipe can be cut in half easily. Depends on how many bananas I have if I make 6 or 12 of these. I have also made them in my tiny muffin tins and they are one point made that way. As is it makes 12 muffins ~ however, they freeze nicely if you individually wrap them in plastic wrap and then place them in a zip lock baggie.

BANANA BRAN MUFFINS
Serves 12 ~ 2 POINTS each

Ingredients:
1 cup mashed banana (about 2 medium bananas)
1 cup unsweetened shredded bran cereal like All-Bran
¼ cup buttermilk
2 large egg whites
2 tablespoons canola oil
2 teaspoons molasses
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup all-purpose flour
¼ cup Splenda® Granular
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon cream of tartar

Steps:

1. Preheat oven to 400°F, spray standard12 cup muffin tin with nonstick cooking spray
2. In a medium bowl, stir together the first 7 ingredients (Banana though Vanilla). Set aside for at least 5 minutes to soften bran.
3. In a large bowl, combine flour, Splenda®, baking soda, baking powder, and cream of tartar. Stir; make a well in the center and add the banana mixture. Using a large spoon or spatula, stir just until dry ingredients are moistened.
4. Spoon batter into prepared muffin tins.
5. Bake for 15 minutes or until center springs back when lightly touched. Col for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack.

Now if you want to make a loaf in your bread machine here is a good one that came with my machine, so it is a one pound loaf. It is 3 POINTS a serving as is but I have lightened it down to 2 POINTS by substituting Splenda® for the sugar and egg beaters for the egg and reducing the butter to 1 Tbsp. It turned out really good lightened. This is great with a little smear of non fat cream cheese on it.

BANANA BREAD
Basic Breads ~ Soft Course Variations
Serves 8 ~ 3 POINTS per slice

Place in your machine according to order it calls for.
1/3 cup 1% low fat milk
1 large egg
2 ¼ cups Bread Flour
2 Tbsp All Purpose Flour
1 ½ Tbsp sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 ½ Tbsp Butter
1/3 cup Banana, Mashed
1 tsp Active Dry Yeast

SUSAN How many points are those frozen biscuits? I would definitely give them a try if they are point friendly. I am sorry your husband had to wait like that. It is bad enough to have to go in but have to wait is the pits. During my working days only once when I went to the doctor did I have to wait and wait and wait. I told the gal at the window (with a smile on my face) on my way out, that my time was valuable and I would be sending the doctor a bill for it. I did and he paid it. From then on I never had more than a 5 minute wait. That was not the doctor I have now though ~ the other one was great and has since retired all those many years ago. You sprung a leak at work ~ where is it that you work? When there was a freeze here a couple weeks ago there were a lot of broken pipes around the area. So many the plumbers couldn't get to all of them in one day.

Have a great day everyone.

Good evening gals! Tomorrow is a busy busy day so I didn't know whether I would get in here in the morning or not.

Friday is WW weigh in so I hope I am down some. I have worked really hard this week so we shall see.

I got a shock this afternoon. A couple weeks ago my older sister emailed me and said that a man that she worked with for years and is friends with he and his wife had his son murdered. His son was a drug user, in his 40's and homeless. He had been found stuffed in a manhole. Altogether South Bend found 4 homeless men murdered that way in just a couple days. Anyway, she emailed me today to say a guy I went to high school with, was in my church youth group and his brother was the boyfriend of the youth group leader's dd did the murders. I guess this guy is homeless to and got made about these guys stealing scrap metal and just killed them. Now, I suppose if you went to a school with 3-4 thousand students you would probably say you didn't know that guy much etc, but my graduating class had 71 people in it and I grew up my whole life in this town and had known the Reeder family my whole life. I was flabbergasted to say the least. Indiana has the death penalty and he is being charged with capital murder along with one other guy.

Maggie: tires are one of the things we are getting put on the car this next week. Our big car unfortunately takes expensive tires. We don't even buy what the manufacturer recommends and they still cost us well over $100 apiece. Guess that is what happens when you go for a big car though I wouldn't trade it for anything. It is the most comfortable car we have ever had. Hope RM is doing well and watching those horses or cows across the way and making them behave. thanks bunches for those recipes, too!

Susan: Hope Stan's testing comes out with a good report. He needs some really good news, as do you. Keep up the good work with Curves!

Well, everyone have a good night. I am depressed. They introduced a new character on CSI to fill in for William Peterson who was doing a play and Peterson was back on the show tonight and they killed off the other character! Dang, I liked him too! lol
