  • Talitha--I'm sure that there are places like that in Atlanta. Several years ago I saw one in the Highlands section of town. Actually, the section is two names, both streets, but right now I forget the other street name. Oh, now I remember--Virginia-Highlands. Look in the yellow pages under ceramics, and there should be a studio somewhere.

The windows are now in on the porch. Big ole things. It's looking good.
  • My meeting is finally over. Whew! We did not accomplish that much, but at least we did something. Looks like the gallery will have about 60 submissions. I did not submit anything this year. I am thinking about a pastel I did today, but maybe not. Its ok. Not great...

Dinner tonight was ww rolled sandwiches. I had about one total, and I actually ate something naughty! I had a handful of Cheetos. The thought of checking glucose levels before bed helped me stop with one handful. If I had known how motivating a glucose meter can be, I would have insisted on getting one years ago!

I am wearing my new Vibram Five Fingers. They tell you to break them in very very slowly to keep from getting sore feet, ankles and calves. You are not supposed to wear them longer than 15 minutes or so at a time for week or so. They feel really neat.

I need to go scan something for Laura...will be back in a minute!

TALITHA: There are plenty of paint your own ceramic places here. There is one at Discover Mills...and I am sure there are tons down there around Little Five. Do as Gator suggested, and check out the yellow pages. I am guessing that Virginia-Highlands would be more pricey than Little Five.

  • Hi all,

Just wanted to let you all know I'm still alive and well. Just busy and a bee. We have small tomatoes on my patio tomatoes. And my birdhouse gourd plants are blooming. Hope you all have a great nite.
  • Talitha--The way those ceramic studios work is this:
They charge you something when you buy a bisque piece--that is an unpainted piece. It is all white. A plate might cost $8. Many things cost more. Then you also pay a studio fee which covers any help they give you, any glazes you use, the cost of firing the piece, and they also put a clear glaze on the piece for you. In Orlando, the studio fee is normally $9, but some places have "ladies night" where the fee is reduced to $6. When I am doing a bunch of stuff, I go on ladies night, when they first open, and stay until they close if it takes me that long to get everything done. That way I basically only pay for the bisque ware and the studio fee is a pittance. It's a lot of fun to do.
  • TALITHA: And if I ever get my kiln hooked up like I have been threatening to do for years, you can come over here and do ceramics.

Ok, sorry. I had to scan some pictures for Laura. And of course it could not be a simple thing. I had a corrupt file and had to re-install it from the original disk. What a pain!

Ok, time for bed! Sweet dreams, all you sugar busters!

  • Good morning! It is Thirstday, and its raining here. Or about to. I guess the ground is thirsty too! I have finished two cups of espresso, and had a ww mini bagel with light cream cheese. In a little while, I am going to put on some outdoor clothes (as opposed to my nightie) and go walk at Walmart. I need to get my treadmill situated so I can walk here when I want. It's in the corner of the den, behind the extra sofas we acquired when Justin's parents moved. I need to organize in my room here, so I can convince Tom to carry the huge hulking thing BACK up the stairs for me. I liked having it here in the room. I could use it easily every morning before I even got dressed. I think it will do wonders for my glucose control.

I have a ton of stuff I ought to be doing. I am kind of dragging though. I slept well, it is just a mental thing I think!

I keep forgetting Sunday is Mother's Day! Anyone got any great plans? I don't even know if my kids are all going to be here, or if Ruth and Erik have to work. Probably, so I doubt I will see them, unless it is later in the day.

Well, enough rambling from me...I am off to get something done!

  • Good morning ladies

I am really today. I guess I got everything cleaned up about midnight. Of course I coulnd't go to sleep I was still keyed up. So I got up and watched TV for about 15 minutes and then fell right to sleep. I sure didn't want to get up this morning.

No big plans for Mother's Day. We will probably go to dinner somewhere. We have a graduation party to attend for a bit at some point in the day and my youngest has 2 others to go to also.

Teensy, glad you dropped in. You must post some pics of your new rooms. They sound beautiful. 2.5 inches is great. You must be seeing a difference in your clothes.

Talitha, 8 pounds is awesome. I gained 50 with my first and probably 2nd too.

    Gator,

Monet, maybe we all should get a glucose meter if it is that helpful. I found journaling my food on line really made me stop and think before I ate it. Realizing I had to write it down and count it kept me in line more. It's raining here too.

Thunder: Tomatoes already? We are going to plant one. Hopefully this weekend.

Better get, have a wonderful day.
  • Happy Thursday!

Going in to work at 11:00 til 7:00. I'm going to stop and get a salad from Dillons for lunch. Breakfast was ww toast and tea.
Tomorrow I'm going to the high school to help with the senior breakfast.
After that my kid is done with high school. I have to keep saying it so it will sink in.
I'm off this weekend and we're going to plant flowers and redo our little 50 gal pond. My husband has been asking for a fountain instead of the pond but I like it. It is surrounded by shrubs and soon flowers so it looks like a little hidden oasis.

I sent in a resume for a Visual Merchandiser job. Will be interesting to see if I hear. The requirement was 2 years of a design education which I have as I completed a graphic design program in 2004. It is part time too. That is all I care to work. Seems there is always something to do at home.
I am,however, taking the easy way out on cleaning for our party next Tuesday. I hired it done!!
Has anyone had any experience with The Maids?

Talitha, I think you've done wonderfully with your weight gain. Good job.

Monet, I've been wondering how your homemade espresso compares to a coffee shop one. It always sounds good!

Bob, Have they gotten your fires under control?

    Solly, Hi

All others have a great on plan day.

    KayeC

    PS

Thanks for your encouragement about the mistakes I made at work. It was really comforting to read what you said.
  • KAYE: We bought a Gaggia espresso machine for each other for Christmas. It makes really really good espresso...better than what I have gotten at coffee shops. It was about $200, so I don't understand why people shell out $1000 for machines when $200 will get the job done pretty well! I think a GOOD burr grinder for the beans is essential, and our son gave us one that costs almost as much as the Gaggia did...the combo is perfect!
  • AFTERNOON EVERY BUDDY!!

I had to come home a little early today. I had lunch from Applebee's (a blackened grilled chicken salad) and it made me so sick! Lately, I've had problems with salads (the eating out kind) and I consulted with my Pharmacist (had to pick up my cholesterol meds) and she thinks I very well could be allergic to the stuff they soak the lettuce in to keep it fresh. I can eat salad at home and it doesn't bother me, just when I eat out.

Please forgive me for not doing replies, but I still don't feel good and I'm going to recline for a while. BUT...I'll check in a little later!

    BOB
  • KayeC, didn't those high school years fly by? Mine sure did. Is yourson going away to college, staying home?

Bob, Oh no, i think there is nothing better than a salad out. The homemade ones just don't taste the same. hope you are feeling better.
  • Hey everyone! I have met the enemy, and she is me! I caved today, for the first time and ate something really off plan. I had about a cup to a cup and a half of Cheetos. I need to check my glucose levels and I almost HOPE they are really bad so I don't do that again.

I did two chores I have been procrastinating doing for a long time. I had a pile of stuff out of the linen closet I had to go through and make decisions on, and I had thrown another pile of clothes I had to go through on the recliner in my room. Both piles are gone through, processed and the areas are now free of clutter. Tom will be so happy! It may also inspire him to take the recliner out of our room and replace it with my treadmill. THAT would be awesome!

I have been reading a really good book written by a seminary professor from Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia. It is the story of his daughter, and her turning her back on her family and all they stood for, and how they had to learn so much, as did she, before their relationship was restored and she finally came back to faith. (GATOR, I think you would find it a good read, like me. PM me if you want the title and author)

BOB: I am so sorry you are sick again. I wonder what it is that they use to wash lettuce in restaurants. I will have to ask my son in law the chef. He is very knowledgeable. I love salads out...I would hate to have to give them up! Could it be something in the salad dressing, or something? Feel better!

Well, dang. I just checked my glucose level, and it is actually really really good! That two mile walk this morning really helped! Too bad I am not seeing much results on the scale! When I double checked this morning to see if that extra pound or two was still gone, it and a friend had returned. Grrr.

    Later!

  • Hi all- sorry I haven't been on...... dance show coming up in a week at my studio and I am going CRAZY getting ready. I am in 2 dances, my 5 yr old is in a tap routine, and my 7 yr old is in a tap, a jazz, and a ballet routine. PLUS, I have had to design programs, pick up cookies for the reception, make signs, order flowers......the list goes on and on. I look forward each year to this show so much, but also love it when its over!!! Ahhhh! Plus, I have been eating not-so-hot. This week is different and portion control will be a must!! I swear I eat pretty much WHAT I am supposed to eat, but DOUBLE what I am supposed to.

Well, I am super tired and need to hit the hay. I just wanted to POP on and let everyone know I'm still here!!!!

HUGS to all of you!!!!! MUNCH
  • Good morning! I am feeling very irritable this morning. My bg was higher than I expected, and my weight is the same - with the two pounds hanging around. I found an old piece of paper with measurements I was taking periodically. Two years ago, I was smaller than I am now. A LOT smaller. Now, I am eating just about perfectly, walking five or six times a week, some days for three miles like I did yesterday, and not seeing any results. Plus I have this blood glucose stuff hanging over me all the time, and its frustrating.

Then, I got on here to see we are still on page three, and it is Friday. I am discouraged.

I have not had breakfast or even espresso yet...so I better go make myself something. I will check in later.

  • She's Alive!!!!
    Hello all!

I had a minute and thought I'd stop by to see my old friends! I'm 3 1/2 weeks out from the primary and life is unreal. This is my really insane time, but I have been thinking about you!

Hopefully after the June 6th primary, I can be more regular again (um, you know what I mean).

My DF is doing well. I will see him next week when I go to NC for my neices' dance recital. The oldest is graduating from HS this year, so this is her Sr. recital. I bought her an IPOD for graduation. She doesn't graduate until June, but I will probably cave and give it to her next week!

Miss Belle is doing well too! WE still go for fluids two or three times a week, but the difference in her is amazing. She's like a kitten again. Every night she runs all over the house and plays with her toys. I will gladly take her for her treatments if it keeps her feeling this good!

I gotta go back to work now--I have to create and buy at least 6 radio ads for three different clients today and design a couple of direct mail pieces. . . sigh. . .

    Love to you all!
    Susan
