Just flying by...I need to go prepare some for tomorrow's classes. I promised the older kids we would do two point perspective, and I really ought to brush up on it! The younger kids are going to be doing a 'stained glass' project to teach color. I thought of doing a color wheel, but that is so boring...this sounds like so much fun. (PANCHO: You could do this easy with your girls.) You have the kids color with red, blue and yellow watercolor markers on a coffee filter. (one of the round white kinds) Then, you lay that on a piece of copy paper, and spray it a few times with a fine mist squirt bottle. Have the kids blot it with another piece of copy paper, and let it dry some. Then, you take black paper, and cut it into a round a slight bit bigger than the coffee filter, and fold it in half. The kids then cut out some of the middle, like a stained glass window, and you glue the filter to the back of the black paper. Hang it up in the window...voila'! The colors all run together with the misting, and form the secondary colors. I found the lesson plan on my artists' forum and people said kids get really excited about it...so I thought we would try it. :)

KATPO: Everyone has given you good advice. I love Bean with Bacon soup too, but I have not had it in years. Do check the ingredients. Any corn products, or sugars are to be avoided. Enriched flour is not legal. It has to say whole wheat, and not enriched, or unbleached. It should be 100% whole grain. Triscuits are ok, as are Ak Mak crackers. I can't have dairy, or much wheat, so I don't know much about yogurts and such. If you don't want to buy the book, you can try the library. I got it from the library then ordered a copy from Amazon.

Ok, off to cut black paper frames for the kindergarten class. :)

BOB: Where are you?

COUNTRY: Where are you?

GATOR: What's up?

TONI: Where are you?

Ellen 09-20-2005 08:50 PM

Ah, I see Gator and I were posting at the same time.... :)

TECH: I am glad the ticket was reduced a bit... :)

Katpo 09-20-2005 08:55 PM

Hey, thanks very much, GatorGal! I just ordered one. Now I don't have to go back to B&N tomorrow and gulp while paying the $25! It would be worth it if it's something I think I can stick with though!!!

All replies and suggestions are really appreciated. I am making my adjustments re: peanut butter, salad dressing, etc. For tomorrow though, I'll go ahead and have the B-V that I already have, and will probably have the yogurt too. After they're gone though, I'll move on to the other things that are more OP.

Monet: I have a favorite craft I like to do with kids and the preschool teacher said we're definitely going to do it for Christmas, she liked the suggestion so much. I go to Walmart and get the cheap little glass votives for tealight candles for 40 cents and I get a bunch of different color tissue paper (of course for Christmas I use red, white and green) and I mix equal parts of glue and water and use a paint brush to brush the different colored torn pieces of tissue paper on the votive, being careful not to get any tissue paper over the edge into the inside of the votive so it doesn't catch fire. And before the glue mixture dries, I sprinkle a little gold and/or silver glitter for added effect. When you light the tealight, the glow really highlights the colors of the tissue paper and it looks a whole lot like stained glass, too! Some kids are really neat and others are out of control, but it doesn't matter because if they're out of control and it's lumpy, I call it 'texture' and it's all okay. It's fun...I've done it for Girl Scouts and for the church youth program for a Christmas Eve Advent Candle for their Christmas dinner table.

Okay...have to go give Junior a little love. I just can't WAIT to have him shaved. Did I mention that he broke into my bag of Splenda the other night? He's a WRECK. His fur is so sticky and gross, and he already had mats galore because his father hasn't been around long enough to brush him out properly. I give it a go, but Junior fights me too much with brushing, so I can't get in there and get that under fur. Something tells me I've already ranted about this, but I'm still so excited to have him shaved tomorrow. He's going to look so funny. I'll take before and after pics. I take him in at 8 and then we go to preschool. Kyle has snack tomorrow, so I made brownies, then Kyle decided to 'decorate' the brownies and make holes so I know where he wants the candles. What a stinker! So, I'm going to cut them up anyway and sprinkle some confectionery sugar over them and pretend I know nothing. :s: Not as bad as my sister when she had to make a macaroni salad for a work party and slipped on the ice and the whole thing went flying across the yard all the snow...so she scooped it all up with a spoon, flattened it out and put some paprika on it and took it to work.

Okay...I'm going to take a bath and wash the criminal feeling I have from being in court. Bleh...

day 2

Doing ok as I go about the detox process. I realized after I began eating lunch that dh added white rice :nono: to the borwn rice that was in the chili and rice I had set aside. Oh well, so I'll have to spend another day shedding the sugar. Made an old favorite last night, cheesecake. It's Deb's recipe and it always turns out so good. I also made chips out of WW tortillas tonight. Thankfully I like to cook and enjoy putting together SB meals. My challenge, at times, is that I don't eat beef or pork! We are a poultry and fish household. All :ink: & :moo: are safe and welcome here!

With the :rain: here in NC tonight I can't help but think of this other hurricane now in the Gulf. Yikes! Hope everyone is high and dry!

Tuesday Tip - Always have some little SB snack in your purse or car to help resist those temptations! It is sooo much easier to get through the Halloween candy aisle if you know you've got your own little treat you can turn to when needed.

Getting ready to turn out the light and watch to see who wins "Rock Star:INXS" before drifting off to sleep.

Thanks to everyone for such a warm welcome/return. :grouphug: It's very motivating to see who is still finding success with this way of eating!

Have a good evening everyone!

Morning! I am just dropping in for a second before I have to go pack up all my stuff for school. I am riding over there with my neighbor, since she is subbing this week. Its not too far, and I could walk if I really had to. I may start doing that once the weather cools....

Anyway..I have to go pack my books and supplies and my lunch. I will be back this afternoon!

Solly 09-21-2005 11:50 AM

Morning Chickies,

I have been so busy this morning, hardly had time to read the posts and post.

Got in a 2 mile walk to the store last night. We had to carry bologna, hot dogs and frozen chicken breasts home so it added to the weight. Did get 22 minutes on the tm today. Will work on my exercised when I get home, I have bunco tonight so I won't be eating with the family. Sure hope we have some type of salad at bunco. This is our first one after the summer, so we will have lots to talk about. It will probably be a late night.

Monet, I know I should stay off the scale, but I can't. It was really wacky this morning, the first attempt I was at 173, the second attempt I was at 176, thired, was 175. After several more attempts 175 came up the most. Any way, I lost 5 to 7 pounds of water yesterday. Strange. I need to look into the book, just haven't had the time. Maybe it will be a good winter project. Have fun at school today. Sounds like a great project.

Talitha, glad you are enjoying the Y. How was the Phanthom and Dinner?

Kris, what is HFCS? Sorry you didn't get out of the ticket. Those places are so scary. My DD was a witness in an abuse case and I went with her once. Man I was scared to move. we stayed closed to the cops. I told her next time not to be such a good person and look the other way (the wife went right back with the DH and wanted my DD to not testify). I was ROTFLMAO about the maccaroni.

Katpo, if you like strawberries in your salad, I have a great salad dressing. It is made from mayo, milk, vinegar, splenda and poppy seeds. I can look it up ifyou are interested. I use Simply Jiff peanut butter, it is less sugar 3 grams I think. The bean soup is not legal unfortuantely. You need to make your own veggie soup. This is a very friendly and supportive board. Welcome

Nat, I agree, I don't see how these teachers do it these days. Especially since you can't discipline them at all and obviously they aren't getting it at home. What a good idea to go to Disneyland. We took the girls 15 years ago and they loved it.

Frog, glad your 2nd day went well. It is just one day at a time. Great Tuesday Tip.

Where is Toni and Country?

Have a great day.

Toni48 09-21-2005 11:56 AM

Sorry I've been missing in action!!!! No excuse. Hey Frog its good to see you posting again. Your baby is just a doll. And welome katpo! This is a great board.

Katpo 09-21-2005 12:27 PM

Thanks, guys! I am amazed at the way you all are welcoming and helpful.

Alrighty, the bean soup is getting scrapped. Darn it!! I would be interested in the poppy seed dressing recipe if you can find it, and will go add Simply Jif to my list.

Do you all ever post your menus for each other? We do it on the WW Core board and it sure is helpful (and a great way to get ideas).

Katpo 09-21-2005 12:37 PM

Hoo boy! I see where I was led astray ... but this person hasn't posted since February of 2004 so I'd better rely on you all to get my advice from.

Also (and gee, I hope you all aren't getting sick of me!) a question was asked on another thread about V8 juice. I looked up the label on Peapod and got this:

Tomato Juice From Concentrate (Water, Tomato Concentrate). Reconstituted Vegetable Juice Blend (Water & Concentrated Juices Of Carrots, Celery, Beets, Parsley, Lettuce, Watercress, Spinach), Salt, Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid), Flavoring & Citric Acid.

Sounds legal to me, so I'm going to add it to my list until I hear otherwise.

CountryMom4Him 09-21-2005 02:55 PM

Howdy!

Howdy ya'll. I'm so sorry for being MIA the last couple of weeks. I've been struggling with my weight and eating. Hopefully next week I will get back in the swing of things and visit the board like I should.

Kato...Welcome! It's nice to meet a fellow Texan. Where in Texas are you? Are you going to be effected by Rita?

Love and hugs,
Crystle

Katpo 09-21-2005 02:59 PM

I am in the DFW area. It is hot hot hot here, supposed to be 102 tomorrow! UGH! But Saturday we're supposed to start getting some rain and wind, and then heavy rain on Sunday. We won't get anything near what the coast will get, of course, but at least it will hopefully cool things off. Where are you?

Melf 09-21-2005 03:46 PM

Hello all, sorry I wasn't able to post yesterday but had a really full day & a bad afternoon with my shoulder pain. For the most part I was OP. Menu was:
SB Power Lean shake
1/4 cantelpoe
Wendy's Taco Salad without the chips or salsa
Dinner was an outing with friends at the Chinese restraunt but was careful to only serve once & NO dessert so I think I did the best I could under the circumstances.
at least 64ox water!!

Today I was back at the gym. Will post on the exercise board.
Menu today:

coffee & South Beach Diet High Protein Cereal Bar
1/4 cantelope
salad mix with turkey & legal dressing

Not sure about supper yet but plan to saty OP & drinking my water!

Frog!!! How nice to hear from you! Welcome back & congrats on your adorable Tadpole!!

KATPO, welcome to the board & I wish you lots of success on the WOE. I know it works as I have lost in the past with it. Hang in there!

Everyone else, I've read the posts & I thank you all for the encouragement. Sorry I'm not up to typing much more but hoping to get back into the routine of replies soon.
